    Hey Ryan,

How goes it? Question for ya. What was the name of the hardshell tonneau cover you were looking at for your Rado? Was it made by ARE or something like that? Let me know when you get a chance. I cant seem to find a website for them...

    Thanks,

    Jim

Has anyone installed a hitch on there truck. I have a 2001 Extended cab 4X2, and I was wondering if anyone has installed a hitch on this model and if it requires taking the spare off. I plan on towing a 20ft bayliner so I need to know what size hitch to get. And I need to know how much they usually run. I also looked in my manual and found that I need to get a trailer-wiring harness connector from my dealer, does anyone know how much this cost?
  • want14mewant14me Member Posts: 1
Wow I just bought a DuraMax 4x4 crew cab Pewter/Tan and can't wait to get it in 5-10 days (snag it off the truck headed to another dealer I bet he's not to happy). Man these dealers won't cut this price much!!!

Bye the way it' MC could NOT find a Silver ado
with in a 500 mile radius, but I will still hang
    out here

to mount a receiver hitch (class 3)or any receiver hitch for that matter you will need to remove the spare tire to mount-no big deal, while it's off, grease the cable for the spare tire holder. A average price on a hitch is around $100. Harness is probably @ $20.

For whomever was looking for a locking gas cap for their Silverado try gmpartsdirect.com. The GM locking cap I ordered from them came with the plastic cord that attaches to the truck like the stock gas cap (for guys like me that have forgot to put it back on!). I think it was around $15.00.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
why a locking gas cap? Is theft of gas that widespread?

Maybe thats why my truck eats so much gas? It really isnt its being stolen?
  • michgndrmichgndr Member Posts: 160
Class III is plenty for a 20 ft Bayliner. Dunno cost, I bought the Z82.

Different heights on 4x4s? Were they all the same thing? Did they all have the same size tire? Was the lot flat?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
...but someone mentioned something that you don't have..so ya better go get one!

Hi everyone, just joined the club, I just started looking for a dual exhaust system for my 2000 Silverado LS extended cab 5.3 V-8. So far have found a Gibson split read exhaust system (mail order) for about $360. Anyone have any comments/experience in this area? I also saw that Gibson has a dual system that comes out behind the rear tire, but I think the pipes coming out the rear looks more betta. Don't want a really loud system just a beefy sound without waking the neighbors. Also does a dual system increase performance or gas mileage? Thanks for the help guys!!

As I figured, I called some muffler shops and got a load of info to decipher. Brake King says it will cost $255 up to $340 to install a Flow master or a Vortex or Glass packs. Meineke says it will cost $250-$400 to install Vortex or Flow master. Micas says it will cost about $425 to install their Raven brand which is like Flow master. And Miner says I don't even need a muffler and they will put on the pipes for $220 but if I want a turbot muffler it will be about $280. I don't know much about Flowmaster, I guess I'll do a websearch.

    Thanks

Talked to a local shop about a year ago.

Conclusion was dual would do nothing as far
a performance except give a different sound.
Had to get into more motor mods such as
    headers etc.

Said the factory systems today are tuned to max
    for motors specs.

We went over everything from just replacing
mufflers to ordering a custom stainless steel.
decided it wasn't worth the big bucks to see
    significant gain in hp.

Some here may have other information, but for
me can just get in the car if want some exhaust
    noise.

Has anyone done research on the best aftermarket replacement Rear Sliding Window for Pick-ups. I hate to replace the (3) section GM. It works very well but the plastic frame has started to leak.

Cool ! .... where can I get one?
  • mtrammellmtrammell Member Posts: 125
Right click on the picture and you will get a dropdown menu. Select "Save picture as." Then you should get a "Save Picture" dialog box. Select the folder where you want to save it and click OK. Make sure the "Save as type" field is GIF, since the picture is an animated GIF file.

OK, If you had a birthday coming up and you could choose only 1 of the following which would it be?

    A set of BFG 285's
    A cat back exhaust system
A set of Lloyds embroidered mats

    Oh and not truck related:
    A digital camera

As much as I want the tires I am leaning towards the exhaust.

I was looking for a new keyless remote on ebay (thanks for the tip obyone!), but all the ones shown there had the lock, unlock, horn (panic), and a trunk opener. obviously i dont need the trunk button - will the 4 button remote work the same as my 3 button??
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
If i were in your shoes id take the tires. I think the benefits of the tires outweigh the others. The digital camera even sounds nice.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
not sure on that one. Think the dealer maybe able to help you there. I guess I was lucky to find those "three button ones". They sure had a lot on ebay last time I looked.

Is your truck still under warranty? If so, take to the dealer and let them replace it at no cost.

Otherwise, I'm quite happy with the CR Laurence slider I got (from the dealer) to replace the cracked plastic one. The CR Laurence window has a metal frame and the latch is on the other (passenger) side. At first I didn't like that, but it works better. And you can't open the slider with a coathanger like I could the stocker.

Most truck accessory places carry these windows. If you can't find it there, try a camper shell place.

I had a reputable window tint dealer tell me that he won't warranty his films if they are applied over factory filmed windows. It was my understanding that the Chevys had the tint integral to the glass. Does anyone have any experience with this. If you had a window break, and it shattered into a million pieces, then that would indicate the tint is integral to the glass (film would hold it together like the laminated glass of a widnshield) By the way, this is the only shop that says this, and the film is backed by Llumar nationwide.

    Thanks in advance.

I got my side windows (pass and drivers side) tinted darker. Darkest legal tint i could get from a distance it looks like it matches the rear quarters but up close its a shade off. Full warranty any problems they will fix

I'm still seeing some unhappy people out there. I just got back from a 1300 mile five day trip and my truck performed flawlessly. I am one of those people who become one with the machine, so it's not like I'm not noticing anything. Other than a warped rotor that I noticed the first day I got my truck I have had absolutely no problems with mine. No squeaks (mine is a RC), no rattles, no nothing. Just a quiet, well-mannered truck that handles the crappy roads here with ease. I too have noticed some trucks with a burned out DRL, but they seem to be in the minority. Maybe some people just notice them more easily since the minds senses something is asymmetrical on those with burned out bulbs. I don't know...just a theory. All I know is that this truck is fantastic and I'm extremely happy with it. As for camping with it, an ext cab would have been great so I wouldn't have had to put all the extra gear in the front seats every night. It sure is roomy in the back. But I still managed to hit my head on the roof while I was "breaking" it in with my sweetie! Good thing there was felt lining up there!

1999 Silverado with 5.3 liter engine, 53000 kms or 30,000 miles.....

Had a regular oil change today and found about six tiny bearing rollers from a needle bearing aprox. 1/8 th inch long and about 1/32 in dia. clinging to the magnetic drain plug!

Took it in to dealer to see. The motor seems to run ok , but I do notice a slight knocking noise comming from the intake manifold. Any ideas what this might be?

I changed the fluid in the rear diff. last week on my 99 ext. Z71 19,000 miles. The differential cover magnet had two 1" long needle bearings and numerous chunks of metal. I have not brought it to the dealer yet to get there input. ( My dealer has been helpful on all the usual Silverado problems I have experienced. )
  • tigercub1tigercub1 Member Posts: 5
Thank god I'm not alone. I had no evidence of anything but the needle rollers. No chunks of metal etc.
The rollers were not deformed either, I suppose they could have been in there since new, but I don't think so, surely they would have shown up sooner during previous oil changes. But then maybe alot of stuff comes out with oil and the "grease monkey" never notices or cares to tell you.

Just got a PS2 and bought 4x4 EVO

AWESOME GAME they have like every truck/suv made in it. I raced a lifted blue chevy on the course.

  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
    did you use the tundra?
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
That's an old game. Had it for awhile. You have to buy a digital steering wheel to play it effectively, much less online against others. Gets boring after awhile, wouldn't be too bad if you could run over some critters or pedestrians ya know.

...I always wished there was a game version of the movie Death Race 2000....(long before Ryan's time)

    - Tim
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
racing game. I forget the name. Looks pretty cool you can run people over and such.

Only vehicles i have used so far is the silverado ext cab LT 4x4 6 inch lift, 37in tires and a burb decked out the same way.

Crashed the silverado into a tree doing a jump. Also rolled it down a hill into a lake.

Wish it had better grpahics (show damage to trucks)

Next on the game buying agenda is a football, baseball, and basketball games (maybe a nascar game too heard the new 2002 one is pretty cool looking).

I seen they have unreal tournament for PS2. I think ill pass on it and just play it at school

Ok back to REAL trucks sorry to get so offtopic

OK guys I know this topic has been beat to death but...

I want to dump my stock Firestones.. (sorry Tim.. LOL)

Anyway if you were me.. would you replace them with..

    Michelin
    Goodyear

and most importantly why??? I am looking for better handling, traction (in rain and snow esp..)

    Thanks in advance,
