Come great plans! I don't think it will take long for you and Red to show Babs where to tote the counter top to, but I think it might take several demonstrations of widget operation before he could be trusted with one on his own. LOL

You know the two cables which hold the tailgate when its down?

Well one of mine seems to be broken in half. In the middle i can push it downwards towards the tailgate and it gives. The other side doesnt do this.

Any clue how much a new on is? Part number?

  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
i noticed on my fishing trip this weekend about 6 out of 10 silverados i seen had A burnt out DRL about 95% of them were on the drivers side.

Also seen a few burbs and tahoes with them burnt out as well
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
Been practicing up on your HTML I take it, I like that little slogan, now to make up the bumper sticker for it and spread the word.
DRL's, obviously Chevy has a problem with the bulbs because I believe I read about a "new" part number for the replacements on this board somewhere. Like I said before already changed mine to the amber color (to be different) when truck was new and haven't had any burn outs. Now if I could only find some high temp liquid glass tint I could dream up some other different colors to dip the clear bulbs in and try something else.....
Tailgate cable, mine pops off now & then but no big deal just hook it back on again.
Tire pressure, your runnng 55 in rears with no load why ya wanna do that. When empty I run 50/40, towing my 3500 lb. travel trailer 50/70. Iv'e got 18,000 on original skins so far, no abnormal wear and rotate every 8k. Of course you have Passenger rated tires where as I have the LT E load range or did your tire upgrade go to a real truck tire??

"Tailgate cable, mine pops off now & then but no big deal just hook it back on again."

Mine doesnt pop off its got a crease in the middle and i think its snapped in half. When the tailgate is down the cable is not a straight line it closly resembles a V but more spread out

"Of course you have Passenger rated tires where as I have the LT E load range"

I have LT tires D rated something like 3300 some odd pounds. Max PSI is 65. I am currently running about 52psi around.

unless you used some cable cutters on them. Probably unconciously closed the tailgate on them. I mean how else would it get the crease unless you took your mom's iron to it. So now it has a crease, other than that it still works. If not go to A dealer and show them what you want replaced and they will get it for you...or you could replace with chain or something else.
  • tomh12tomh12 Member Posts: 240
Are you sure the cable is broken? Sounds like it might have gotten folded and bent between the tailgate and bed when closing the tailgate. Never heard of one breaking. Good thing you didn't have a Tundra for the load in your picture or you would have needed straps to keep it from falling out over the bed sides and probably some new rear springs. LOL

its broke. I dont think its sliced all the way through (cant see inside the black casing) but i can feel like it has a chunk missing out of it. Also when you put the tailgate down it is serving no purpose there is slack in the cable

Nice pic, Ryan. I see very few burnt out DRLs here. Maybe the air in the Chicagoland non-attainment zone is worse than we thought.

The cable is easy to test:
    1. Unhook the "good" cable and lower the tailgate with the "bad" cable still attached.
    2. Jump up and down on the tailgate.
    3. If you end up in the driveway and the tailgate has a new crease, the cable is broken.

I am thinking about getting the chrome (plastic) on my mirrors painted blue to match my truck.

How much do you think i am looking at? Anyone have an idea? Also rock chips are the only thing lingering in my mind. Would i be able to put that 3m stuff (do they make it especially for the mirrors?) to stop chips?

    Thanks

I've experienced the tailgate cables coming off-only has happened in cold temps.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157

  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157

Me and him are almost at the final stage to order the material and need to finish some biz.

Ryan-I had the same thought on the mirrors from practically the day I got my truck. I don't like the chrome. If you get 'em painted let me know how it works out.
  • ricschricsch Member Posts: 540
more involved (cost & time), but could swap out with a pair from a base Silverado-no chrome.
  • grnsilveradogrnsilverado Member Posts: 23
Does anyone know if STANT makes a locking gas cap for the new rados, i checked at the store the other day and they didn't have them. I was wondering if it was the store or Stant just doesn't make them for the new trucks yet. Also does anyone have locking wheel lugs, I need to get some of those too.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
do you live in a high crime area?

RIC i want blue mirrors not all black
  • txyank1txyank1 Member Posts: 1,010
that's one of the things i've noticed that i really like on the Tahoe and Suburban LT's........color-matched mirrors and door handles.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
i like mine black but the mirrors stick out and dont match well

Only chrome in the truck is in the bumpers why they put them on the mirrors is beside me
  • txyank1txyank1 Member Posts: 1,010
If I thought I could ever get it on smooth I was thinking of the carbon fiber looking vinyl to cover the chrome on the mirrors. I've noticed on a lot of Custom trucks they've changed back to the previous model mirror. Which of course is black and is more easily painted to match the body color..
  • dustyonedustyone Member Posts: 262
The only reason I bought the '00 Silverado was for the chrome mirrors.
  • txyank1txyank1 Member Posts: 1,010
That's like the only reason I traded my '99 for the '01 was for the extra door. That was easier than getting the Wife to swap sides of the driveway.
  • dustyonedustyone Member Posts: 262
Just kidding about the mirrors of course. I waited until the 4th door became available. I got one of the first 4 doors, made 2/10/00. The 3 door model made about as much sense as the 3rd door on vans. Stupid idea...
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
...I think yawl have too much time here?

    LOL

I could care less if they are 3 or 4 doors or chrome or colored...

Looks good with Chrome....will last better than paint....

Now a 3rd door could have been on the drivers.....but it wasn't worth waiting another 8 months for a 2500 4 door version.....i haven't died having this set up....as some made it out to be while waiting.

Good Luck on this one now!

i forgot you only have 3 doors tim.

Just another reason my 1500 is better than your 2500LD

    Ryan
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
you have a "lack of" complex son?

    LOL

I Shakes me head to think people actually waited for a 4th door as the main hold off.

    Hasn't bothered me a bit.

But....that's why we are all different.

    Enjoy

    - Tim
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
    wait for the 4th door.

As a matter of fact i was planning on getting the 3rd door (im glad i didnt) but when i ordered it was then standard

Does anyone know a good place to find one of these? I lost one of them while i was snowmobling right after i got the truck, and the other one is getting pretty worn out. My dealer said a new one was $52. Was wondering if there was a place to get one for cheaper? Any good online parts places??
    Thanks
  • dmnsmith2dmnsmith2 Member Posts: 21
I am going to buy new Silverado soon and have noticed that some of the 4x4's seem to sit higher that others. I am just wondering if there is an option I can choose to have mine sit higher off the ground, that is from the factory. Longer shocks, etc? Thanks in advance!!
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I've never heard of that before?

a Z71 may or may not sit higher than a standard 4x4?

...as for $52 for a remote.....there has gotta be something online cheaper??

..and Ryan....I didn't mean you!.....others had mentioned about waiting for the 4 door back when it was on the crest. If that's what you buy a truck for....I guess I respect that. Yeah it's more conveniant for a family.....but I see a forced exit on the curb side more safer for kids....just my 2 cents.

Funny how people care more about a badge..sticker..or 4th door than asking about safety issues....

    people like marketing I guess?

yeah a 4 door is "more better"......but in actuality a 3 door should be stronger in a crash?

    who knows.....

Enjoy the 4th.....mine just started with this Brew!

  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
the drivers side is for MY exit and entry!

....go around if ya wanna get in!

You mean I have had 3 doors the whole time I've had my 99 Ext cab? I only have two months left on the lease, I can't ever get my monies worth now!

    Its a joke.

How the sound of a widget sounds like the fuse on an m-80 dropped into water? Have a great Independence Day!!!

bought extra remotes on ebay for $20 each...the guy was selling two. And don't go to the dealer for reprogramming cause you can do it yourself...errr, ryan not included of course...he is still working on changing the rearend fluid.
  • minikinminikin Member Posts: 389
Ryan -- you can do the mirror covers with sandpaper, primer, a can of GM39 Duplicolor spray paint, can of clear, and some polishing compound. Let it all set up for a couple of weeks and put 3-M clear bra material over it and you should be set for life.
    Tim --
I waited for the 4th door after driving 3 door rental Silverado's and realizing what a pain in the [non-permissible content removed] it was to have to walk around to the passenger's side to put anything into the back. Finally, National's just about got all those Dec '99 build trucks out of their system.
