How much do you wanna spend? BFG/michlen will be the most expensive.
5 LT285 tires for my truck cost around $850.
$156 a tire * 5 = 780
plus tax $50
balance $40
disposal $10
the tax and other expenses were estimates cause i dont have the bill with me now.
Mine are great in rain/snow/sand/mud they are alright
Only negative is road noise which increased but it doesnt bother me
Ryan
I would try going through the dealer as you can't beat their pricing. Or at worst, Sam's or Costco.
As soon as I hit a couple of places I will let you guys know...
Oby... are your Michelin's on the quiet side?
Ryan... noise isnt always that bad right? Wait till you put a Flowmaster or Borla on your truck.. hehehehehe

tire program as I understand it, will affect speedo read out, and transmission torque converter lock-up control(TCC). The previous might get you a speeding ticket; the later changes the amount of trans fluid that goes through the cooler and might cause the trans to overheat. We know what can happen then...
this can be re-programed at the dealer by their hand held Tech-2 scan tool. They get updates on a regular basis so other software patches can be added to the engine control and powertrain control modules for whatever might need to be changed.

GM calibration info
I am having an identity crisis
Now being it's a CC..makes it way less capable of hauling due to so much weight (compared to an 8600 GVW ex/reg cab 2500)....aka a 1500HD!
get a 2500HD.
- Tim
-Eric
Tims just whiney because he now has a LIGHT DUTY 2500. He thought when he bought it it was all big and bad now he is trying to ditch it. Maybe he can add some HD emblems to it hehe

Thanks,

I will I have nothing better to do. why do they want me to leave it so bad? So they can air up all 4 tires to 90psi then drive it around town or something? GRRRR Time to buy some manuals and start my own car repair business up.

..as for LD...keep typing it Ryan..you wayyyy farr behind...an LD is a 2500 7200....you are the one who touts your truck as the baddest one to walk the land since it got 285's and a brush guard....which actually takes power away and makes it slower if ya wanna get technical pal
kettle black?...I state the facts and I'm callin' the kettle black?
a 1500 HD (Crew cab) does have wayy less capabilty than an 8600GVW ex cab...being it's a crew cab....and a Reg cab 8600 hauls even more than an ex.cab 8600..(not asmuch of a gap as the 1500HD)...but it's the truth
a guys asks...I tell him...
kinda miserable today....got crud going on here that I don't like
and don't ask

Mobil 1 since had some left that used in the
Vette. 10,000 miles later decided to change oil
and go back to reg 5-30. 2 oil shops and the
dealer said no to stay with mobil because in
future it could lead to seals leaking and one
even said might see bearing damage. SSSSOOOO
look like I'm stuck but cost probably the
same since do go further on mobil between
changes. Just didn't the stuff had that much
effect on the motor.
Come to think of it....who at the dealer? Didn't know they knew much of anything either.....
You can switch back and forth no problems.....
local owned not far from the house. The comment
from the Chevrolet dealer was the Service manager.

Never mind I found the information. No TSB but its possible to fix it under warranty.
Mark
do you have to worry? I don't know, but your tires are turning less revolutions per mile than what the computer thinks so my guess is that it would lock up the torque convertor clutch sooner than if the speedo were correctly calibrated.
if anything you might get a bog that might go away after the the computer adaptive strategy reprograms itself for the changes in engine load and throttle position.
Just remember you are going faster than the speedo registers, so if you are doing 40 in a 35 zone, the cop may write you up for 10 over.
i'm just anal enough that i would probably get it re-calibrated.
hope this helps

I have a 2001 gmc 4x4 2500 extended/shortbed
My manual says I need to change the Rear Axle Lub after 500 miles of towing. So I need to do it.
The manual calls for 75w-90 synthetic Axle Lub.
GM part # 12378261 at a cost of $28/quart. I seem to remember it needs 3.5 quarts. So that's over $100 for the GM Lub.
Is there any other synthetic lub I can use?
I looked today at, I think it was Mobil 1 gear lub, but it did not say it conformed to the GM Spec. 9986115. The price was $7/quart.
Any sujestions?
Also where is that list of chassis lub pix.
Thanks!
Details please!
Can you post some close-up pictures of them?
