Thanks!

I don't know about the 944, but some older models had large oil reservoirs (I think they were air-cooled, not water-cooled, like the 944), so you could go a long time between oil changes, but you had to change something like 12 quarts when you did. Plus, I think some have more than one oil reservoir (one in front, one in back), so you had to remember to drain and refill them all.

Hope all your HK wishes come true! Haha!
I should check that other site more often

I have an AMD Duron 750 w/256MB and ATI Radeon 9000 PRO 128MB video but it still hangs when playing Formula 1 2000 and Medal of Honor. That was my initial reason to upgrade.
Now since Saturday, I also can only start programs by opening an Internet Explorer window and going to File>Open. I have absolutely NOTHING on my desktop displayed and no start button. Explorer does not load at start-up (only "OSD" shows when I hit ALT+CTRL+DEL). I am lucky enough to have a keyboard where I designated certain buttons to open applications/websites. Otherwise I couldn't even type this out to you now.
So tomorow I'll go do a little research and see what faster CPU is compatible with my motherboard and perhaps add 256 MB of RAM. Then I'll reformat and go from there. And yes Raymond, this time I do have my files backed-up. I learned last time just how much I can trust my OS.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I looked for fixes but they didn't work.
Any CPUs you know of that go with a Soyo K7VTA-B motherboard?
Thanx!
Dinu
And I have had bad luck with duron CPU's.
Most software are written with intel+windows in mind and it causes glitches when a program that is "specially" designed to exploit the features of Intel is used on an AMD machine.
So i just stick with Intel.

Why do I have to enjoy getting out in the snow so much while everyone else just stayed home?
The whole internet awaits you!
Tell us...how was your weekend? That should provide adequate fuel to start the fire. :P
Hope you had a great Bday! Get some HK crap...I mean HK memorabillia?
A co-worker gave me a stuffed Hello Kitty, wearing a pink tutu, with pink flowers on her head.
My only regret is that I do not own a digicam, and thus can not treat you to the splendor and beauty of this gift. :P
If you've read any of the reports in the Chicago papers, you've seen that there were many building code violations and locked exits. It was a terrible, senseless tragedy.
Glass houses, my friend......
And I do love this stuff! I just wish I was headed skiing instead of sitting here in the office. I've always loved the snow. Only good thing about winter. I hate cold but love snow, so if it's going to be cold it might as well be snowing.
At least the cold weather means no mowing and no bugs (outside, anyway).
But here's the problem: what motherboard to get?
I had in mind the ECS L4S5MG 478/SDR/DDR b/c I can use my PC133 SDR 256 MB RAM card with it and if I need more oomph I can swap it for a 512MB RAM card.
Are there any other motherboards I should consider?
Also, considering I like my F1 game and there will be a new Colin McRae Rally 3.0 coming in a few mths, should I get a heatsink?
Thanx all!
Dinu
PS: To everyone that had the big storm, a little snow is nice to shovel
Good luck w/the cold. Take 20-30 mins to stay outside if it just snowed. The weather that usually follows a snow storm is very mild and good for you - easy to breathe cool air. But whatever you do, wear a tuque
Tuque=hat

I'd stick with names like ASUS or Gigabyte. I built my bro's PC using an ASUS mobo and it works great.
Where are you going to put that heat sink? If anything, I'd get another cooling fan and put that in the case.
I'm sure there's a site out there that lists what mobos are compatiable with the chip you want to get.
For further reading, I suggest www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com .

Ok, so Win2K it is then?
I don't know much about computer specs.
Dinu
WIn2K is good, but the "latest and greatest" is XP.
BTW, I've had good luck with my ASUS board and with Win2K.
Mike/Ray/Darren: I'll see if I can find Win2K then. I'm sick of this Win98 crashing all the time. When you're almost at the end of a and Prix after having fought from last place on the grid to have the comp freeze is not good. Hopefully 2K will be better.
I'm going to a few computer stores now to talk prices and compatibility. I'll let you know what I came up with. The system will be upgraded by week's end.
Thanx again!
Dinu
Anyway - for the price/performance - you would be better off buying an Athlon Motherboard, CPU and brand new DDR DIMM memory, instead of trying to waste your money on an Intel system. Think about it.
Hit anandtech.com or tomshardware.com for some nice reviews of the latest and greatest. If you do end up choosing AMD over Intel, I can give you a few tips, to maximize the results, given your budget (if you have one
I went with an Athlon XP2100+, with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, and two 256 MB sticks of PC2700 DDR DIMM RAM (for weird reasons, this is better than one 512 MB stick, on this and some similar motherboards).
As for OS - install Win2K, if you must stay with Windows. My old PC has Win2K, and this new one has XP - no comparison, the 2K system is MUCH more stable and secure. You can bump up XP's level of security/stability with some configuration, but out of the box - that just isn't the case! Forget about 95/98/Me for now
Of course, if you can, install a dual boot system with Mandrake (or some other variety of) Linux. That's what I have, and its an optimal setup!
Had to plug the store after the absolutely incredible service I got from them. I bought my RAM and MoBo at a computer fair, and my processor, case, monitor and other sundry items from newegg.com.
