I don't really have a secret I guess. I just try to picture how I want the photo to come out before I snap it. Also take plenty of pics - several of the night shots I took were blurry. When I get home I try to pick out the good ones.

Also having a nice camera helps. I have a Canon Powershot A20. It only has 2.1 megapixels but the quality and color are great. I'm very satisfied w/ the camera.
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
I think Canon and Nikon put in the best optics in their consumer digital cameras.

I got an A40 myself. Nice color, decent auto features. Can take blurry shots (I think pictures come out better w/o the flash), so I use a tripod (or a box) when I can. Using the 2s timer can help too, as I'm not moving the camera by pressing the shutter release button, for shots of scenery or people posing anyway.

they won't be having a location in Ohio for the Rev It Up event, after all.

    Mazdafun, what will you do???
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
I'm gonna whine, that's what I'm going to do.

Guess there aren't enough drivers around here interested. Bummer, but figures. They're pretty incompetent around here anyway (almost got run off the road by an Altima yesterday on my way to the airport....tried to merge into my front-left fender).

Guess I'd better check their website and see what's left that perhaps I can drive to. Thanks for the heads-up. :)
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
Better get Hello Kitty a driving helmet. :)

Hey, turns out I'm going to the NPE show right afterwards in Chicago anyway. Looks like a long week for me there (if I get the OK from my wife...that is a significant amount of time away).
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
Pete and I signed up for Saturday, June 21st (session 14b...starts at 10:00 a.m.).

It would be great to see you there.

takes a video camera, cause I gotta see Dale racing a 6 with her Hello Kitty scarf flying out the window that was left open during the pre-race car wash.
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
    1. Kick Raymond's [non-permissible content removed].

    2. Buy Hello Kitty scarf.

    :P

Day trip. 4 hours up, 4 hours back (good thing the track's south of Chicago). I gotta get in the same group as Dale and Pete. :)
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
    1) Kiss Raymond's butt.

    2) Buy Hello Kitty Scarf and prance around wearing it all day.

A friend let me drive his 03 Corvette Z06 this weekend. What a monster! That thing is alot of car. Lots of motor, lots of grip, great sound to the exhaust.

Not my kind of car, though. Not quite as nimble as I'd like. It's a demon and I prefer a dancer, if you know what I mean. Boy was it fun to mash the throttle, though!

Does anyone have a suggestion on why the sedan topic went from 50+ posts a day to less then 10 in the last 4 months? Perhaps, the fact that very soon Mazda will sell a small sedan called a Mazda3 instead of a Mazda Protegé? I miss the many posts from the Protege Owners and Ex-Owners Town Hall regulars Malt, Dale, Michael, Dinu, Meade, Paul, Ray, Hank, Ashu, Mr. Fowler, Chikoo and Chi. Maybe the war has hurt the traffic?

  • meinradmeinrad Member Posts: 820
I think the war might have something to do with it. Every Edmunds discussion I follow has been way down. Especially on Edmunds, where general chit chat is frowned upon, I think people have just stayed away.

There is only so much to say about your car and without the ability to have a little off topic discussion, I know for me, I've just gone elsewhere.
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
...and we still love you as much as ever, Mr. Love Train.

I'm trying to be good and not post during the day anymore. Seems I have this job I'm supposed to be doing.

Don't know what the other slackers...I mean, Protege owners...are up to.
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
What happened to YOU everywhere else? It's not like you're Mr. Regularity on the Yahoo group ...

I only have a limited amount of time to surf the web here at work; lately mine's been occupied by the Yahoo group and, moreso lately, CNN, MSNBC and BBC (the latter because of the free video and faster coverage).

And besides, the Protege is just another appliance ... frankly it looks and drives just like any other Focus, Jetta or Cavalier out there. I don't get what all the hype's about.

    Meade
  • mazdafunmazdafun Member Posts: 2,329
    And I fell for it.

What do you mean "appliance". I love my Protege. It's always there for me, beckoning me to find some curvy backroad and drive it to its limit.

It just has been busy, plus all the news and NCAA stuff going on. And don't even get me started on yard work. I keep thinking about chopping down the deciduous trees on my yard and putting up evergreens. Geez, I've only raked maybe a tenth of my yard and I've got 3 yard waste bags full of leaves and branches.

    There. Enough? :)
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
    So's my dishwasher.

Beckoning me to put in one more stained dish and test its limits with cheap off-brand detergent.

    :D

Yard work? Been there, last weekend, done that. Got the dirty fingernails to prove it. Fired up the ol' Craftsman 21-inch, 5-hp mulcher (ar ar ar) for the first time this season too. Didn't take too many pulls and cuss words either. No, the cussing started when I decided to transplant several azaleas, some well-established mums and a leeland cypress tree.

Got to fire up the brand-new electric hedge trimmer for the first time too. (Ar, ar, ar.)

Then I spent some quality time washing the Protege.

    But that's just an appliance.

    she's so sixy and sleek
    all the right measurements
she's made me into a six freak

    not too powerful; just right
    I find myself daydreaming
    of handling her all night

I wouldn't call it an over abuse of care
but my wife is slightly jealous
    of my six love affair
  • chikoochikoo Member Posts: 3,008
truthfully, do u dream of ur wife or your 6 at night?

Maltb's boyish dreams of the 6
May excite the likes of Hans Blix
    But those on the go
    Prefer, don't you know
A ride we've seen only in pix

I speak, O my friends, of the Three
Whose appearance I yearn for with glee
    I'll go zooming past Malt
And it won't be his fault
That his engine's from Ford Company

It's already compared to a Beamah
And it's goin' to be quite a screamah
    So get yourself ready
    And keep your sights steady
On the next big thing from Hiroshima!

    Well done, Meade. :)
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
O Meade makes such a strange bid,
forgetting malt has 4 times his kid,
    aside from that error,
    trying to inflict such terror,
the 6 will stand tall as it did.

While malt has loved his cars small,
most cannot fit his kids, all,
but the 6 has that balance,
    from hood down to valance,
and never neglects to answer its call.

So while the 3 will be bad [non-permissible content removed],
and cause detriment to the Civic mass,
    I will not fear,
    the end is not near,
As I'll grab one for the odd weekend pass.
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Dale ended last week with a curse
When she should've put it in reverse
    Some guy smashed her glass
What a pain in the, er, rear
And then made off with the girl's purse

But please don't let that make you frown
That's not all going on in Chi-Town
If you just hate the war
Or don't know what it's for
You can riot till the cops bring you down

Yes, Chicagoans - they'll take the blows
For punching Free Speech in the nose
    They'll riot in rain
    But Dale won't complain
As long as she closed her windows!
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
    O malt, I won't yell defeat
Nor whimper for your love I'll bleat
    But let your tongue wag
    While of roominess you brag
Why the 6 has a puny back seat?
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
There was another car right behind me!! Everybody needs to quit telling me I should have put it in reverse!!
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
    I cannot believe maltb's action
    He's quibbling over a fraction
    Besides, we love Mazdas
    (And nothing rhymes with "Mazdas")
I think we've both found satisfaction

O malt, you big pain in the butt
You come across as all-knowing King Tut
But you don't fool me once
And I'm not such a dunce
To know we both like good beer and good smut

So just keep in mind as you labor
To use verse and meter as saber
    That since we're both right
Why the hell do we fight
Owning Mazdas makes me your neighbor

I know to you I'm just a speck
To meet me would take quite a trek
But when I chose my ol' Pro
I made your employer some dough
So thank me when you get your next check!
  • chicagoprochicagopro Member Posts: 1,009
    "All-knowing King Tut"?
  • protegextwoprotegextwo Member Posts: 1,265
Mr.Malt is so good, I can never find fault.
Paul's crab meat can't be beat, it's so complete.
Meade's son is young and Spring has sprung.
Dale is cool, she is a teach in a reform School.

    Better than some old Corvair

OK, I can't compete with you all.
I'll stop before I take a big fall.
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Ouch, ouch! I yell from the assault
In my wounds Malt is pouring the salt
    He complains that the Three
    Won't fit his family
When it isn't the Protege's fault

You see, maltb has chosen his slot
In the Edmunds Protege owners spot
But as his family he grows
I sure hope that he knows
It's time to visit the MPV lot

Sir, you've outgrown the family sedan
So enjoy that 6 while you can
    But you'd better buy two
    Or a trailer hitch too
Or just buy that big box minivan

You attack like a big Brontosaurus
My skin feels all prickly and porous
But as I reach for the suture
    I think of the future
When the 6 becomes Ford's newest Taurus
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Larry, you make my heart throb
Your place has great corn on the cob
But on the subject of rhyme
    Your verse reeks with slime
Take heed and don't quit your day job!

    :D
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
The brontosaurus was incorrectly named...the species was already named Apatosaurus and the person that found the "brontosaurus" skull thought he'd found a new genera, when in fact it was an apatosaurus skull.

Please resume your afternoon mirth making. Maybe Dale could give out a Gold star to some lucky poet.
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
"Apatosaurus Burger" just doesn't have that ring ...
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
Yeah...I too like the sound of Brontoburgers much better.
    Mmmm...Brontoburgers....
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Yes, we're talking about heaps of old bones
They've found out in dry desert zones
When Mike comes out to play
    And joins in the foray
By slamming, of all things, Flintstones

Hee hee, this is too much fun!

Meaning, "they have;" "they" meaning archaeologists.

    In other words:

"Yes, we're talking about heaps of old bones
They have found out in dry desert zones"

I see your point about using "they're" to refer to where the bones are found. I was referring to people finding them.

    Whatever!

  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Here comes Mike, in the blink of an eye
    Holding dictionary and thesaurus high
    But across this great land
    They call me "Wordman"
Word of caution Mike, don't even try!

    :D
  • protege_fanprotege_fan Member Posts: 2,405
Sorry Meade...I'm terribly bored at work right now. I wasn't trying to detract from your excellent literary delights!
  • mdaffronmdaffron Member Posts: 4,421
Now sadly, I head home for the day
But wait? Why is that not OK?
For as I leave this room
The urge grips me to zoom
Time to fire up the ol' Protege!

Zoom zoom! See you folks tomorrow!

Have not my profile you read,
To see what in fact I have said?
    It happens to be,
    It is an MPV,
That shuttles my kids home before bed.

Although the MPV is the kind,
and quite a minivan in my mind,
    There still needs to be,
    a ride suited for me,
yet hauls the kids on the daily grind.

The back seat you speak of is a farce,
Not one has said room is sparse,
    but having had a Pro,
with three kids on the go,
was a major pain in the [non-permissible content removed].

But now I bring this to a close,
my time is spare as my prose,
    the 6 has a hitch,
pulls like a som'[non-permissible content removed],
and to you I turn up my nose. (not really, but the rhyme was there)
