$38,718 OTD Plus tax. They said includes carpeted floor and cargo mats, but I don't see them as options on this model (6966) so I assume they were in base price anyway.

41K for Highlander... seems too high to me.
I bought 2006 Acura MDX Touring with NAV and DVD for 40K drive out (2 weeks ago). I know that it's comparing apples to oranges (a redesigned 2007 MDX is coming out soon), but I am sure you will agree with me that Acura MDX is more high-end than Highlander.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
I would say there isn't a dimes worth of difference between a Highlander Limited and the MDX, aside from the owners head... ;)

An Accura is not a Lexus or Infiniti.
  • desertfox1desertfox1 Member Posts: 80
Also note the the HH should imply the hybrid. And the tax was included.
  • ralph9ralph9 Member Posts: 88
It appears that fitzmall.com prices for the base 4x4 are from $900 to $1300 below their dealer's invoice which appears to include about 2% for advertising and other dealer costs. They charge a $99 administrative fee. I wish we had a similar volume dealer near Colorado. Ralph

I never said Acura is same as Lexus or Infinity, I don't know how you got that from my messge.

As far as Highlander vs MDX, you are entitled to your opinion. There are people who think Kia and Huyndai are better than Toyota and Honda... may be you all have the same head.
  • dinnudinnu Member Posts: 17
    desertfox1,
Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about Hybrid...
The price I stated was out of the door, it includes TTL.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Because, Dinnu, you said: " I know that it's comparing apples to oranges (a redesigned 2007 MDX is coming out soon), but I am sure you will agree with me that Acura MDX is more high-end than Highlander."

Check out the Highlander Limited and I am sure you will agree there really isn't a dimes worth of difference.....and if you haven't checked the road tests and reliability tests on Kia in the last couple of years, I think you will see they are almost pulling even..... :P

A base V6 4x2 automatic with 3rd row seat and these options FE EH AG GY PE RL TO for $27450. Add $1000 for aftermarket leather and subtract $1500 rebate gets me to about $26950 + TTL. Opinions?

I'm awaiting more quotes but haven't received any others yet. This in the Northwest.

I just bought mine for $38,718 OTD (plus sales tax) so take the tax off yours to compare.

With a $2,600 fed tax credit, plus 0% interest (savings of $3,224 in 36 month loan interest at 4.98%) plus $536 interest earned that saved interest I figure my actual bottom line was $32,358 plus my tax. :)
  • laristondolaristondo Member Posts: 12
wednesdayweek: What dealership/town? We are ALL interested as the OTD was GREAT! :)
  • dan bitmandan bitman Member Posts: 158
Salesman won't go lower then $17000, no matter what
It's a manager special ,dealer located in Farmington, Mi.
    But...it's Beige color...my wife's favorite
I'm almost ready to buy it...for her.

Car is in excellent conditon, can't find a reason to ask for a lower price. Also, brand new is 7K more...
Need some advice - pros and cons are welcomed.
If is too low- why is that? ( considering the high resale value of Toyota's)
If it's too high- what's the right price??
    Thanks,
    Dan

It's low because most people want 6 cyl with AWD. The 4 cyl versions don't sell as well but most owners that have them, myself included, think there's enough power. Gas mileage will meet EPA highway if you drive at speed limits or slightly over. In my area(Boston) 4 cyl basic FWD Highlanders will be advertised for 17k-19k, depending on the week.
  • kenrosenkenrosen Member Posts: 5
wouldn't you know it our government got this one wrong. I have been considering a HH. I also use the vehicle for business. I thought I would get a $2,600 tax credit for purchasing the vehicle. Well the credit does not reduce my alternative minimum tax so for me the credit is worthless. Well I might just get the 4 Runner V-8 as it qualifies for the 25k expensing deduction and full depreciation because it's rated over 6,000 lbs. This will save me about $10,000 in taxes. Both cars sell for about the same. I wish the gov't would get their priorities straight.
  • dan bitmandan bitman Member Posts: 158
    Thanks,
Indeed, for my wife , my baby and myself, power is not an issue as gas mileage ,reliability, and comfort are.
    I will consider your advice that 17K is a low ( good)price.
Thing is that 17K is my "allocated" budget. Not a penny more
In Mi, we pay 6% sales tax. Adding the T&L fees, REAL OTD price goes way over 18k.
Final shippings of 2006 CRV's are "discounted" at this price, though... with standard CURTAIN/SIDE airbags.
    I'll see. Thanks again!

A large national news magazine is looking new Toyota owners that switched out from a Ford vehicle with their new purchase. Please send an e-mail to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than Wednesday, August 23, 2006 by 2:30 PM PT/5:30 PM ET containing your daytime contact information, what Toyota car you purchased and what Ford car you left behind.
  • typesixtypesix Member Posts: 321
Yes, Toyota is lousy for some safety equipment. Most Highlanders can't be purchased with side airbags unless it's the expensive versions. My sister has a 2005 CRV which I had a chance to drive and it is also nice. Only thing I didn't like was auto tranny upshift to 2nd gear is based on rpm, not acceleration rate, something I also noticed in someone's old Accord.

It seems everyone here is talking about the price for high end model. Could anyone give me some comments on the price for 2006 4-cyl base model? I got a quote from a dealer in Atlanta for $20900+TTL after rebate. Is that a good price? Or I need to negotiate a little more?

    Thanks a lot.

Just finished negotiating a new lease through Boch Toyota in Norwood, MA based on the 36 month, $199/month, and $1999 due at signing ads being run on TV. Of course, that ad applies to the base 4-cyl, FWD model (#6910) with PG, MG, & FE according to Toyota’s website.

    For a model #6920 (4-cyl, AWD) with PG, MG, FE, SR, AW, & CF, . . .

    Miles: 12,000/year
    Term: 36 months

    MSRP: $28,544. (including destination)
Base Cap Cost: $24,625. (price paid)

    Cap Cost Reduction: $0.00
    Residual: $15,774 (55.3%)
    Money Factor: 0.00001 (or 0.024%)

    Monthly Payment: $246.27

Due at singing: $944. (not including Title/Registration)
    Acquisition Fee: $400.
    1st Month Payment:$246.27
    Dealer Docs: $298.

Title/Registration will be my responsibility, but the car will cross state lines and I will need to take care of this at the local town clerk’s office when the dealer shows up with the car on delivery. No sales tax in our state.

Base Capital Cost represents $631 under Edmunds invoice ($1000 under 'dealer invoice’ with advertising fees, etc.).

This is a subsidized lease from Toyota Financial Services, . . . basically a 0% financing program (the total finance charges over the lease term was $14.54). Rebates did not apply to this lease program.

I still believe the residual is $100 low compared to other dealer quotes I got, . . . but overall, this represented the lowest total cost package I could get ($9563.48 total cost without title/registration). I will still follow up with the dealer prior to signing on the residual, . . . I spent a lot of time getting to these numbers and didn’t really feel like arguing any longer over the last $100.

Thought I'd pass this along for others, . . . and comments are welcome. Haven't signed papers yet, . . . but deposit is down to hold the car.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
I quite agree. $100, over the lift of the car, is nothing, and in any deal, both sides need to "win" something.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
Prices posted here for a stripped base HL almost never go below $22K (before TTL); the posters typically don't mention if there's a rebate involved. So in any case your's is an excellent deal!
  • tony42tony42 Member Posts: 2
Thanks. It is surprising because it is the first quote I got. I tested the car today, which is in good shape with 10miles on it. I will pick it up tomorrow. The OTD will be around 22350.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
New cars typically never have "0" miles on them, nor should they.

You have a great deal. Enjoy your Highlander! :)
  • jimmappjimmapp Member Posts: 2
This is just coming off a 39month lease. It has 46K miles, perfect condition, leather, sunroof, tires might have wear.
Toyota is doing a 125 pt check, then I get a 100K Toyota bumper-to-bumper warranty. Deal is $13,900, after being detailed. This is in the Northern Va area, where everything is high. Wha-d-ya-think ?
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Did you mean a 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper FULL warranty on a used car with 46,000 miles on it? :surprise:
  • skicrazyskicrazy Member Posts: 5
What's a good price for a used 2005 6cyl 4WD highlander base model with 25,500 miles? A rental car agency is selling their 2005 fleet.
This one has some nicks on the bumper but otherwise the paint looks fine - and vehicle history looks ok. :confuse:

Hi, based on this forum I have choosen V4 base model.
    I just bought a 2006 Highlander 2.4 4 cylinder with 3rd row seat.
Actually they did not have one of my prefered color in stock, so they took a $1000 from me to deliver it on monday.
Paid After Rebate : Base price $21250 + IL, cook county taxes (7.75%) taxes
    Out the door 23,271.65
    They have included FE, EH,ME,RL,CF
I spent less than 45 minutes @ the dealer. negotiation was very minimal.

SO What do you guys think did I get the right price.
  • abtjmabtjm Member Posts: 9
    It is not Limited.
  • abtjmabtjm Member Posts: 9
I think that's a fair price. They wanted to sell me one with 4Cylinders for 21000$.

Why wouldn't a tax credit reduce your AMT? I could see why a tax deduction wouldn't since deductions are limited under AMT calculation. Is there a website where you found that information? There goes my plan to reduce AMT . . . .
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Because minimum tax is the minimum they want you to pay, it is a credit in and of itself that if you are ever out of AMT, you can offset regular tax..... ;)

Just now my dealer called and asked me to choose other color either Balck or white.
I got disappointed .. let me think about it...
  • abtjmabtjm Member Posts: 9
what do you guys think: Highlander or GMC Envoy is a better choice?
  • maxxladymaxxlady Member Posts: 21
    What dealership was this? Where?
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    You are joking, right :confuse:

Resale, demand, everything, the Highlander is top of the heap!
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
I prefer the white, with the ivory interior. Not so hot in the summer with the lighter color inside.
  • jbolltjbollt Member Posts: 736
UHM...let me think a second....OK..done! I bought the 05 Highlander V6 Limited, and am extremely happy with it....wouldn't have even considered the GM products...

and you're asking this in a Highlander forum? LOL
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    BUT WHAT COLOR!!!! :P

This is the Hybrid, right? I think you will be happy, in the long run, you went with the Limited. :)

Red...No, not hybrid, HH were not avail in the model year 05. In fact, not even available when I bought my Highlander. But...BUT!... I bought a Camry Hybrid last month...and still have the Highlander. (If early innings in this game are any indication of the outcome, the Highlander may move down from "the best car I ever owned," to second place)

I am shopping around for a 2006 V6 4wd base model. I got the price quote around 27K with following options. I wonder if it is a fair price or not and I need to make decision in 72 hours (before the incentive ends). I am more concerned about the curtain airbag than other fancy options. Also, I wonder what the difference between GY and JY. It seems all of them are curtain airbags. Does anybody know? Thanks!

TOYOTA SITE for answers as to what comes with it. ;)

If you are spending that, why not add $3,000 or less and get the Limited, which will have much better resale and include the options they have added :confuse:
  • abtjmabtjm Member Posts: 9
I have one more question before I make my decision. Do you think 24K is a fair price for the Sport edition on Highlander? I didn't add leather or moonroof.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
On the Toyota site, the Sport is offered with two packages, both have the Moon Roof, one is $2600, the other $4700, and includes leather....

With the $2600 package the site says a 2006 has a MSRP of $33,000!
  • abtjmabtjm Member Posts: 9
So you think is worth it?
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Yes, given what I read on the Toyota site and here. :)

First, thanks to everyone for sharing your experience. It’s a great help. Second, ignore my post of August 14th. I never checked out the details on that vehicle, and did not purchase it.

    Here’s my story.

Last Tuesday, August 22nd, I spoke with the Sales Manager at Ourisman Chantilly Toyota in northern Virginia. I asked him to accept a reasonable offer -- $5,000 under MSRP, after rebate, for any Base Highlander, V6 4X4 w/3rd row seat on the lot (I don’t think he had any 2X4s anyway, and they all had the 3rd row seat). I’m not terribly picky about the exact options or color. I just wanted to set the price, then go out to the lot and select the exact vehicle I wanted. He agreed to this. When I probed about the $279 “processing fee” the dealership tacks on, he said that would be on top, which would give a true difference of MSRP less $4,721, instead of $5,000. I said no. He insisted. I thanked him for his time and left.

The next thing I did was decide to purchase a Limited V6 4X4 w/3rd row instead of a Base model.

I then searched Fitzgerald Auto Mall’s pricing and found that the very best difference from MSRP on any Limited model in their entire inventory was $5,300. They add $99, giving a real difference of about $5,200. A search of Ourisman’s inventory of Limited models showed that their best difference between MSRP and Internet price was $4,977. They add $279, so their real difference is about $4,700. So in a sense, the bottom line is Fitzgerald’s price was $500 better than Ourisman’s.

So I sent an email directly to Ourisman’s Internet manager, pointing out this difference. I immediately got back an offer to reduce their Internet price by $250 and at the same time they began promoting an “Internet Special” coupon of $250 off their Internet price. This $500 would make up the difference between Fitzgerald and Ourisman. The Internet manager said they would give me this price on any Highlander Limited without Navigation, which I did not want.

So today I bought that car, at that deal.

    It looks like this:

    Highlander Limited 4X4 V6 w/3rd row seat.
Options: FE (emissions), GY (airbags), HD (heated seats), LA (leather), TO (towing), VV (stereo, sunroof), DK (owner’s portfolio), and GN (cargo net).

Edmunds shows an MSRP of $36,575, invoice of $32,342, and TMV for my area of $31,666.

Ourisman’s Internet price on the vehicle was $30,747, so the deal looked like this:

    $30,747 - $250 additional discount - $250 Internet coupon + $279 “processing” = $30,526. Which is what I paid, plus TTL.

Now I just have to wait for this weekend, when Toyota raises the rebate to $2,000, to gnash my teeth!!!
