I have an MDX touring and I don't agree with the comment that it is "a lot more luxury" than a loaded Highlander. I think they are about the same luxury wise, with regards to quality of materials and comfort. The MDX does have more room and a better NAV and RES (and bluetooth, XM, and backup camera), so those are the main reasons we bought it, plus the gas milage is pretty good on the highway.

We are now looking at a Highlander now too for our second vehicle. But based on the usage this car will get (many short trips, lots of cold weather driving, low yearly milage), we plan to get the non-hybrid version.

I finally bought one for $26000 and the dealer put in a lojack for free. Great car for the price.
  • mary9245mary9245 Member Posts: 2
James, that is exactly what features I am looking for! Where did you get such a good price? I live in Iowa, but am interested in any good deal, by the way, is your son for hire?
  • jwalkerddsjwalkerdds Member Posts: 3
congrats on the new Highlander.. sorry i havent had a chance to check out this forum in a while.. we actually bought it at Boch Toyota.. how about you?
  • tfitztfitz Member Posts: 4
I bought it at Wellesley Toyota. I went to Boch and the sales person did not know to much about the highlander. Then I went on line and contacted some dealers and Wellesley Toyota gave me the best deal. Almost 5k under MSRP and a free lojack. The ironic thing about it is I live in Norwood.
  • jwalkerddsjwalkerdds Member Posts: 3
thats a good deal. when i was originally looking i didnt want the sunroof and wellesley had given me an online quote of 26100 for the v6 awd standard model. we decided it was worth the extra 500 for the sunroof. but your right, our boch salesman didnt know any real technical info about the highlander. but i had already negotiated the price and car before i went so it didnt matter..
how does the wellesley service center look, and are you planning on adding anything aftermarket to the highlander? i want to get the front windows tinted and maybe figure out a way to add an audio in port for my mp3 player..
  • tfitztfitz Member Posts: 4
Boch also told me when I am ready to buy they might be able to take 1,000 of the MSRP (Gee thanks... what a bargain). What happen to "Our cost are less so we can sell for less".
The service area at Wellesley looked ok. The car I purchased had a broken clip on the visor and they had it fixed in 10 minutes. I may add leather seats. They said they could do it for $1300.00.

Please post how you made out with the mp3. I would love to be able to play my mp3's.

I read some posts mentioned what the dealer is paying for the car (after holdback?). How do I gather that data?
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
Invoice price is available on several websites, including edmunds.com (www.edmunds.com > new cars > Enter ZIP code > Toyota > 2006 Toyota Highlander ...). This will give you the invoice price, any rebates that are in effect for your area, and, if you click "Incentives & Rebates," whether there is any "Marketing Support" (national dealer incentives) (cash given by manufacturer to dealer). This will not include the holdback nor any regional dealer incentives, but will give you a good idea what the dealer cost is.

Get internet quotes from several dealers to virtually guarantee an excellent deal! :)

I'm very close to "signing on the dotted line" with a local Chicago area dealer for a 4 x 2 with:

    FE emmisions
    AG appearance package
    GY side curtain airbags
    PE 8-way power driver's seat
    SR sun roof
    TO towing prep package
    CF carpet floor mats
    RL daytime running lights
    EH cold weather package

Dealer quoted $27,100 plus TTL, invoice according to this website is $26580. TMV price is $27584. I can't take the rebate, because I want the financing.

From what I'm reading, this price is pretty good, but could I possibly do better? I'm not going to go crazy over $10 or $20, but if I could save $100+, I'm going to go for it. I've only gotten one other price locally, and it was a few hundred higher.

I've bought from this dealer/saleperson before. They've been good to work with and no pressure. Their service department is good and close by. In spite of that, if I can save a significant amount from the $27100, I'll consider another dealer if this place won't match or beat other offers. Loyalty only goes so far!!!

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

"They've been good to work with and no pressure. Their service department is good and close by."

It appears that you have a good dealer and a good deal. The quoted price is almost $484 below TMV and $520 above invoice (which doesn't include advertising).

You have a relationship with this dealer who has treated you right. Go elsewhere and you may destroy that relationship. It's not worth the $100 potential savings you're going after.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
I'd pretty much agree with gasman1 -- the fact the other internet quote was only a few hundred away from your preferred dealer's quote implies you're getting close to as low as any dealer will go.

(Recently received 6 internet quotes for a new Ford Ranger and all of the quotes were within ~$200 of each other for a $16K vehicle, much to my surprise; they were all ~$300 above invoice.)
  • aae991aae991 Member Posts: 2
Thanks for the input! I've got one more quote coming from a local dealer via the internet. If it's that much better, I'm sure my favored dealer will work something out for me. My estimate is they might beat my current deal by $100-200. Heck, they could give me a couple of free fill-ups and I'd be happy!!!

    Hi Bopie,

I am actually about to purchase the same vehicle at RH Toyota in Owings Mills. I am dealing mainly with their internet sales person. The quote they gave me is 32'154 with floor mats, cargo nets and wheel locks. I am just wondering how you got that price. Did they give it to you right away or did you negotiate hard to get it? Thanks lot in advance. I would really appreciate your help.

The Southeast Toyata website (setbuyatoyota.com)has $2000 cash back as well as financing options available on Highlanders. Are these mutually exclusive? What is the maximum that a dealer will typically finance?
  • josettejosette Member Posts: 1
I am considering buying a Highlander, but cannot make up my whether to get the Highlander or the Pilot, has anyone driven both and can give me some advice. I am a loyal Toyota person and am leaning heavily on that side, but want to know how happy everyone is with their 2006 V6.
  • gasman1gasman1 Member Posts: 321
I'm on my 3rd HL-V6 ('01, '02, and '06), so call me very happy. The '06 is great! I drove the Pilot and thought it was: a) noisey; b) of less quality due to interior materials and build; c) to expensive and dealer not willing to work a deal such as my Toyota dealer.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
I'm very happy with my HL as well, as are most people on the HL boards. The HL is a car people fall in love with!

Both the HL and Pilot are excellent vehicles -- look at each to see which is right for you.

We bought an 05 Highlander and love it. Quiet, smooth and very comfortable. We have 15000 miles on it and not a single problem, it handles great and we look forward to taking it out for a drive. Our decision came down to the Highlander or the Pilot. Both are excellent cars. My wife thought the Pilot was a bit too wide and that the Highlander was easier to handle. But the Pilot does have more room inside, so it is really a personal choice. I dont think you can go wrong with either one.
  • billranbillran Member Posts: 113
I will say I think you will be very happy with the Highlander. We test drove several and believe that the Highlander is the most comfortable car of its type on the road. We have the V6 and it drives like a dream.

    OK,

I have been trying to negotiate my first ever lease, always use to buy. Anyway, we are trying to lease a 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD 3.3L w/3rd Row Seats. It has just about every option you can get except the navigation system and DVD entertainment package. I was offered the following and feel I could do better: $3600 down covers the down payment of $1999 to include tax, title and processing fees (Out the door). 36 months with 12,000 miles per year. $300 for wear and tear insurance (total) along with $12 per month gap insurance. My monthly payment including everything would be $362 per month. The MSRP of the vehicle is $36,100. I feel like I am missing something, please help with any ideas. :confuse: I live in Virginia and I believe the sales tax is 3%. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

I'm shopping (2) dealerships in the Reading, PA area. I'm looking at the '06 HL Ltd with 3rd row. Options include: FE, GY, HD, LA, TO, VV, DK, Z1...color is Blue.
MSRP is 36,101.00 INVOICE is 31,902.00. TMV: 32,184.00. I'm waiting for quotes via email but would like to offer $33.920.00 OUT THE DOOR....Financing right now is at 1.9% as well! Anyone think that's a good # or am I still too high? Keep in mind that my $33,920.00 will include taxes (6%), tags, destination... THANKS!!! :-)
  • samnrenosamnreno Member Posts: 5
Looks like we are interested in the same HL. See my post :-) Can I ask why you choose to lease this time instead of buy the HL?
  • jamnettjamnett Member Posts: 3
Just purchased a Highlander Limited V6 4WD with all except NAV. I had to pick from their existing inventory. They had many.
Here in NY that consists of FE GY HD LA LL TO VV CF
$30,700 plus tax and NYS DMV. I was told that is $300 under invoice.
    MSRP is $35,874.

Several dealers only had 1 unit in stock and this dealer had no incoming. No one claimed to know of any phase out of 06's yet.
  • samnrenosamnreno Member Posts: 5
What color did you end up getting? Did you finance at the 1.9%? What was your out the door total cost then?
  • jamnettjamnett Member Posts: 3
White. It was our 3rd choice, but looks good.

I did not finance with the dealer. Went through Costco online for financing (Capital One)

    Cost-
    $30,700
Tax--calculated before rebate reduction on $31950
    NY 8.625% = $2755.69
    $67.50 for DMV fees

    $33,523.19

And the saleman was very easy to work with.
I think 1.9% financing is only for 36months. I didn't want to pay over $700 month so went with 60 months.
  • samnrenosamnreno Member Posts: 5
I don't know about anyone else, but I think that was a very good deal. Thanks for sharing!

I would like to lease this time to get new safety features every 3 years in the vehicle my wife and younger kids use the most. I will continue to purchase a new vehicle for myself about every 10 years or so but feel more comfortable with my wife and kids in a newer and hopefully safer vehicle. Do you think the terms offered are fair, I am totally new to this leasing thing and I am looking for a little help...

Thanks to everyone that responds and the many who have contributed their knowledge to this fine forum.

Hi: When will we know the Highlander M.S.R.P. prices for the 2007 Highlanders? Checkbook magazine has a service for 190 dollars where they will check with 5 dealers to get the lowest price above invoice.Need to know when to start the process? Thanks Lawrence
  • vectorgodvectorgod Member Posts: 3
Should you apply a dealer cash back to a lease? I am thinking about leasing a 2006 Highlander and I am negotiating the sale price and want to know if I should apply the current $1000 cash back to it. :confuse:

    Thanks

    Hello all,
I have the navigation system on my highlander, along with rear DVD entertainment system. 2 things that really bother me. 1st, I can't make any changes to navigation route, unless I slow down to about 4 miles per hour. This is no good when I am on the run and need to make changes while normal driving. I went to the dealer, and he didn't help me at all with figuring out a work around. 2nd, I would like to watch a dvd on my front screen, but the minute I release the emergency brake, it goes blank. If I push the brake in slightly, the movie comes back on, is there a workaround here also? Kind regards, Mike.........

Hi: 1) Does $32500 dollars sound like a good price for the 2006 Highlander Limited AWD, 4 speed automatic. 2) Does anyone know how the 2007 Highlander will change from the 2006? Thanks Lawrence
  • nomorebenznomorebenz Member Posts: 109
Which options? You could probably do better given the current anti suv sentiment from consumers.
Look at the Toyota FT-SX concept vehicle on this site under future vehicles. Thoughts are that the new Highlander will use aspects of this design.
  • samnrenosamnreno Member Posts: 5
I was just quoted (via internet), $32,418 for an '06 Highlander Ltd. with 3rd row. 225 miles on the car. Options are GY, HD, LA, TO, VV, DK, Z1. I plan on offering less however. You may be able to do better than your qouted price unless it comes with Navigation or DVD.
  • rcegglrceggl Member Posts: 31
Navigation System....you are really making a mistake to fool with these things while driving. It is way too easy to become involved with the system and not pay attention to the highway. I know...I know...but, pull over and come to a stop, then make adjustments.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
While edmunds says the HL will be redesigned in 2007 MotorTrend says it will be redesigned in 2008. I strongly lean toward the '08 redesign:
    1. We'd have heard rumors, seen spy pics, etc. by now if it was being redesigned for '07.
    2. They just came out with the HL hybrid in the '06 model year -- you'd expect them to want to get more milage out of the current design rqther than redesign it the very next model year.
    3. They just introduced the HL Sport trim line a couple of months ago, an indication they're trying to get more milage out of the existing design.

Assuming no redesign for '07 prices will almost certainly be very close to '06 prices -- if I were you I'd buy an '06 in order to get a better price, or wait a couple of months after the '07 comes out so you won't pay a premium for it. The '07 will probably hit dealer lots in the September timeframe. Monitor edmunds.com new car prices for '07 pricing.

    hello to all of you!
a good friend of mine who's a car dealer, called me with this offer:
there is an Action these days for a 2003 HL, basic 4cyl,25k miles. He could buy it for me ( my wife actually) for $14k+ taxes.
I am not sure if it has the VSC available ( which I insist on having), but i'll find out.
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING ABOUT THIS OFFER?
My wife is insisting on buying- it's GOLD and TAN interior :confuse:
    Thanks to ALL of you!

    Hi all

Did some serious shoppping this weekend, and found a dealership in Silicon Valley selling all standard Highlanders at $4500 off of MSRP, and all Highlander Hybrids at $4000 off of MSRP. By MSRP I mean the monroney sticker price INCLUDING the delivery fee, which is $605 here in the Bay Area. Funny that they all had the same discount, this made the more basic models an incredible bargain.

According to the dealer, and confirmed by my own research, this magnitude of discount can actually result in a price that is a couple hundred dollars below invoice. What invoice, you might ask? Invoice is a highly variable terms since some include some padding in them... I doubt that even the sales people know exactly what the dealer paid for a vehicle!

I ended up getting a 2WD Super White Highlander Hybrid Limited, no nav (can't justify the cost) and only the carpet mats as extra tack ons for $34,690 with 2.9% financing. I think that's a really great deal, but I am a bit suspicious that the fact that they are being so heavily discounted suggests there are some changes afoot, perhaps for as early as this fall... but then again, all SUVs are being pretty heavily discounted these days in response to the increases in gas prices.

First impressions of the vehicle are excellent - it drives well, its incredibly powerful (268HP is a lot even in a 2 ton vehicle), and I'm averaging 27.8MPG in my first few hundred miles and I feel good driving a vehicle with 80% less emissions than a standard vehicle... And it does 5 MPG better than the less powerful MBZ wagon that it replaced. Of course nothing drives or handles like a Mercedes, and I think that the seats in a Benz are unbeatable, but nothing is as reliable as a Toyota!

Would you mind sharing the name of the dealership offering 4000 / 4500 off invoice.
    Thanks.

Deals are out there although not many that I encountered yesterday in PA. A dedicated Jeep owner bought a HL Limited with all the bells and whistles. Wife did not like the fit of the passenger seat and he traded it in on a Jeep. It was a gold one with a sticker price of $36,101.00 and I bought it for $25,799.00 plus taxes, etc.. The unit had 2,600 miles on the odo. How about them apples?

Luckily, the forum allows me to name the dealership, which is Piercey Toyota on First Street. I didn't by my HiHy there, but they are nice people and I would have if they had the model I wanted in stock. They had probably 10 in stock in various colors and trim, mostly 4WD with DVD...

I know you didn't ask for buying advice, but my approach is to bypass all the lot sales guys and go directly to the fleet manager... I find there is a lot less hassle just to get right down to the price, assuming that you've done your homework (like on forums like this) and determined you definitely are interested in the vehicle.

    Good luck!
  • lacarguy42lacarguy42 Member Posts: 3
I'm here in LA and so far I'm not seeing the discounts you saw at Piercey, but that could be a SoCal thing. I'm willing to come up to the Bay Area to save a couple of K$, so do you think you can either post or pm me the name of the dealer and the salesperson you dealt with?

I'm looking for a Black/Tan 2WD Ltd Hybrid with no nav system.

    Thx.

You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information.

Please don't offer to provide any of the restricted information off-line, either...

    $30,880 for 2006 Highlander 4 x 2 Hybrid
    $27,500 for 2006 Highlander 4 x 4 V6
    $24,600 for 2006 Highlander 4 x 2 V6

No options or accessories, No destination charge, $100 processing fee, Plus TTL.

Are these quoted prices any good?
  • saintlouisdonsaintlouisdon Member Posts: 4
Has anyone purchased recently in either of these areas? Currently, I'm being quoted $2500-$3000 below MSRP + Dest. It sounds as if people are doing better in other parts of the country. Thanks.
  • lacarguy42lacarguy42 Member Posts: 3
    If that's the price for a 4x2 Hybrid Limited, I'll take 2 ;). Somehow I think it's not, though.
  • nomorebenznomorebenz Member Posts: 109
Discount is still the same here in NY(C) 3500-4000. Supply is going down however. The clock is ticking on the full tax credit as well.
