NEVER negotiated a vehicle before...but i read the forums/
went to edmunds/pricing etc...I offered $35,000 out the door-best any dealer wuld do was 35,500...Here in CLEVELAND
ohio there was a $1,000off(?from toyota for our region) coupon that ended TODAY(you had to sign name/VIN # to get it).I was very lucky to have gotten mine as one with NAV's
are hard to get & a decent color too AND esp. this last day of coupon (dealers lot was pretty empty!!!)....
I had no trade-in(my 12 y/o rusted van of no value)...so
heres how they broke down the sale: ( remember MSRP 38,414 minus the 540 value pkg discount from toyota =37,874 final
MSRP)
Price-34403,14
doc fee-85
7.5% tax-2586.61
tags-25.25
SUBTOTAL-37,100
MINUS-1,600(1,000 coupon & 600 toyota to customer)
TOTAL OUT THE DOOR: $35,500
i'm happy & lucky -have a reliable vehicle now, one that
doesn't embaress the kids & NAV-as i really dont know where
the road in life will take me(no pun intended & i've ALWAYS been bad w/directions & cant read maps either)...
hope this helped..p.s What color is this one? dealers said there was a BLACK/GREY interior which i wanted, in PA, but
couldn't get it.....
best of luck..seems like a good deal?....

Excellent price, though it never hurts to counter with an offer a couple hundred less just to see what happens.
I will check out three other toyota dealers in the area and see if they can offer a better deal. I am in no particular hurry and want the 3.9% financing rather than the rebate which is valid until Mar 31st.
I will update you with my experience with the other dealers.
Am not knowledgeable on used car pricing but you might try the Real-World Trade-In Values discussion in the Smart Shopper group to see if that discussion is at all useful; also the Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussions for the various makes and models should be valid for used car pricing as well as new car pricing. Also check-out 10 Steps to Buying a Used Car.
Good luck!!

go to previous posts from deeann06 & kml for prices we paid for ours as a guide----good luck---dee
I can give a rough price that I'd consider good based on posts on this board, which is in the $31K - $32K range, but to get a really good price from the dealer best to go to edmunds.com to find the invoice price for your Highlander with the options you've selected, subtract any rebates for your area, and begin negotiating from this price. Now, if you want to get a "great" price, request internet quotes from several dealers in your area and purchase from the dealer with the lowest quote, or take the lowest quote to the dealer you prefer to do business with and ask them if they can beat that quote by $100.
Good luck!
your referenced me to or click on your email-how do i get to these places??
SORRY TO ALL for posting this here, i'm so not computers!

Are there any promos if I lease? Also, have you ever heard of two dealers working together behind the scenes?
Highlander Hybrid Limited 4WD

Good? Not good? Any comment? If my math is right, their markup $% is roughly 3-5% on the TRUE dealership invoice price over the car.
This is my first time buying a car. I got a quote today of $20,538 for the base Highlander (6910) in NYC with no options or accessories and was wondering if any one could tell me if this is a good deal. The only other costs are license, registration and taxes. Any responses or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You may want to use edmunds.com to calculate the exact invoice price minus rebates for your area to see what the true dealer cost is, just so you are an informed buyer when you walk into the dealership. Also edmunds.com may have some articles on how to negotiate so you are better prepared mentally for the purchasing experience.
Good luck!

+ $890 ohio tax

So did I do OK? I feel pretty good considering I did almost no negotiating on our last car. Leased from Toyota Direct in Columbus. Very easy and low pressure.
Thanks,
Darren

If you search in Edmunds.com forum, you might seen this dealership name before -- Carson Toyota. They are the one give me the no-hassle quote, no running around Q&A kinda service. They are awesome!
For the month that I researching and quoting for my car, I submitted roughly 30+ quote request. You can find all the Toyota dealership around you using Toyota.com website locator. I believe all Toyota dealership site now have a quote feature... they are more or less built from some sort of templates.
From the 30+ requests, I got a solid 50% response rate... I got 15 quotes. Outta the 15 quotes, only 3-4 of them is actually worth pursuit. You will get a lot of "I'll beat anyone's price by $x"... which is crap. Longo & Carson are the two very up-front straight forward dealership. The "Power" group is also pretty helpful, but their price is always high.
Carson stock#28124-H is the car I'm reserving. Published MSRP is $42,094.00. Carson's quote basically is $4000 off MSRP. As the sales show be the computer screen behind, the "supposively" true dealership cost, they are basically making a 3-5% markup profit on the car right now.

Thanks for the suggestion and updating me. I will let you and the forum know about my experience and price quote. I have registered at consumerreports.org for 30 day free trial (go to msn.com and they offer this). And for $14 i have got price report for highlander hybrid. It give idea about the regional rebates, standard equipment + additional equipment invoice price and also msrp addition
Last month (Feb end) I got best price quote of $37,400 for AWD hybrid limited with nav (that included 750 rebate). I am trying to get to 36,900 to 37,400 (tough one!). But if not then I will try to get it for 37400..hope the dealer contiues to agree with this rate.
I will buy it in April or May.. Let's see how much the patience pays.
Will keep you all updated!
In any event compare quotes from several dealerships to see which is the lowest -- regardless of whether the dealer wants to charge advertising or any other fees, just look at the bottom line and go with the dealer with the lowest. I like to solicit out-the-door quotes so it makes it harder for the dealers to spring any surprises.
FE Fifty State Emissions
EH Cold Weather Pkg.
EJ JBL Premium/6CD/8 speakers
AG Appearance Pkg.
HD Heated Seats
JY Side/Curtain airbags
LF Fog lamps
LP Leather Pkg.
RL Daytime running lights
SR Sunroof
TO Tow Prep pkg.
CF Carpet/cargo mats
GN Cargo Net
WL Wheel locks
To that package I added Stainless Steel tube side steps and a spoiler which will be installed by the dealer.
Total price I paid was exactly $32,000, including dealer advertising fee. The only thing added to that price was NYS sales tax (a killer at 8.625%), title and license fees, plus an optional Extended warranty through Toyota.
I Paid an additional $825 (plus NYS sales tax) for 7/75000 ($0.deductible) Warranty, which I negotiated, knowing that I could get the same warranty for $875 (no tax) at link titlevia the internet. I also took advantage of the 3.9% financing Toyota is offering, instead of the rebate.
All in all I think I got a pretty decent price, and was treated very nice by the sales staff, but like most people, the minute I left the dealer I felt like I could have done better. My first Highlander was a leased 2003 Limited, but the 06' I bought has almost all the same options, plus I like the 16" wheels better than the 17" rims that come with the Limited.
Any thoughts on the price I paid?
Which is better for the buck and why? Thanx
Mary9245
I try to squeeze as much as I could, but in Southern CA and the high demand of it, I can only ask for so much.
Edmunds Invoice Price $35,198.00
Destination Charge $605.00
Floor Mats Invoice Price $126.00
Navigation Invoice Price $1,700.00
That total to $37629. And we all know that the MSRP is $42094.
My finaly purchase price ends up to be $38094, $4000 off MSRP, but still $465 over the published invoice price.
I also got this "dealership invoice price" of the car quoted as $34021. Supposively that's THE price that the dealer paid for the car. Also there suppose to be a dealer holdback of $785 on the vehicle.
So if I want to be very depress... I could use the dearlship price with the dealer holdback that they got, and see myself paying $38094 - $35667 = $2427 more than the absolute bottom price.
Or, I can tell myself I'm only paying $465 more than the published invoice price. :shades:
Their service have been great! No game no hidden fee, I would recommend anyone to them!
I'd be happy with that since you got good service and apparently didn't feel like you needed to take a shower after the deal was done! Some people have paid way more than that for the same vehicle, especially earlier on.
In the end, we had a favorable buying experience and that counts a lot. It sounds like you did as well.
I've had fun learning a bit more about hybrids with some of the various hybrid web sites.
Finally, remember to thank Uncle Sam next year assuming you get a tax credit of 2 grand or so!
Just a thought. Wht do ya guys think..
