just got home couple hrs ago with my New FULLY LOADED AWD V6 hilander ltd..(SAME as yours-but silver). dont know if
mines good price(i'm a recent widow w/ 2 teenagers) as ive
    NEVER negotiated a vehicle before...but i read the forums/
went to edmunds/pricing etc...I offered $35,000 out the door-best any dealer wuld do was 35,500...Here in CLEVELAND
ohio there was a $1,000off(?from toyota for our region) coupon that ended TODAY(you had to sign name/VIN # to get it).I was very lucky to have gotten mine as one with NAV's
are hard to get & a decent color too AND esp. this last day of coupon (dealers lot was pretty empty!!!)....

    I had no trade-in(my 12 y/o rusted van of no value)...so
heres how they broke down the sale: ( remember MSRP 38,414 minus the 540 value pkg discount from toyota =37,874 final
    MSRP)
    Price-34403,14
    doc fee-85
    7.5% tax-2586.61
    tags-25.25
    SUBTOTAL-37,100
    MINUS-1,600(1,000 coupon & 600 toyota to customer)
    TOTAL OUT THE DOOR: $35,500
i'm happy & lucky -have a reliable vehicle now, one that
doesn't embaress the kids & NAV-as i really dont know where
the road in life will take me(no pun intended & i've ALWAYS been bad w/directions & cant read maps either)...

hope this helped..p.s What color is this one? dealers said there was a BLACK/GREY interior which i wanted, in PA, but
    couldn't get it.....
best of luck..seems like a good deal?....

Both you and kml337 got a very good deal based on past posts to this forum, after factoring-in AWD and nav. Upon subtracting your rebate from your pre-TTL price it appears both you and kml337 paid roughly the same amount, though kml337 did a little better, but none of you were taken to the cleaners or anything. :shades:
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
Dude, go for it!!!!! (as we say in CA (or if you're in NY, 'Yo, go for it.')).

Excellent price, though it never hurts to counter with an offer a couple hundred less just to see what happens. :D

Thanks for the assurance landdriver-knew i could count on you for your input-NOW-the next step will be negotiating a USED car in 2-3months for one of teens!!! who'll soon be driving....IS there any discussion group/site for this? I guess i have to be e-mailed this cuz its not of this group..

Thanks you to deeann06 and landriver. The dealer has assured me that this price is valid until Mar. 31st.

I will check out three other toyota dealers in the area and see if they can offer a better deal. I am in no particular hurry and want the 3.9% financing rather than the rebate which is valid until Mar 31st.

I will update you with my experience with the other dealers.

    You're welcome deeann06.

Am not knowledgeable on used car pricing but you might try the Real-World Trade-In Values discussion in the Smart Shopper group to see if that discussion is at all useful; also the Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussions for the various makes and models should be valid for used car pricing as well as new car pricing. I can give a rough price that I'd consider good based on posts on this board, which is in the $31K - $32K range, but to get a really good price from the dealer best to go to edmunds.com to find the invoice price for your Highlander with the options you've selected, subtract any rebates for your area, and begin negotiating from this price. Now, if you want to get a "great" price, request internet quotes from several dealers in your area and purchase from the dealer with the lowest quote, or take the lowest quote to the dealer you prefer to do business with and ask them if they can beat that quote by $100.

    Good luck! :)

Sounds like a very good price -- definitely a GO (if you're really into getting the last $100 out of the deal never hurts to counter with an offer several hundred below their's, but is definitely a good deal as is). :shades:

I've been shopping for a Bluestone Highlander Hybrid Limited 4WD for a while. I started about a month ago. After I got price quote, then I start my home-equity loan application. Now that I'm ready to purchase, here's the quote I got and I think I'll go for it this Sunday. I would appreciate any input.

    Highlander Hybrid Limited 4WD
Options -- CF (carpet), FE, LL (limited package), NV (nav system)

    out-the-door before TTL price == $37685

Good? Not good? Any comment? If my math is right, their markup $% is roughly 3-5% on the TRUE dealership invoice price over the car.

    Hi,

This is my first time buying a car. I got a quote today of $20,538 for the base Highlander (6910) in NYC with no options or accessories and was wondering if any one could tell me if this is a good deal. The only other costs are license, registration and taxes. Any responses or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Our Highlander Hybrid Limited 4WD with Nav (and floor mats) was $37700 + TTL in the Chicago area. It was very good price that other dealers wouldn't match. It looks like you can even afford a $15 lunch to celebrate. We are very happy with our vehicle. Good luck tomorrow.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
That sounds like a ridiculously low price. There may be some rebates going on. If the dealer doesn't try to weasel out of the quote then definitely go for it!

You may want to use edmunds.com to calculate the exact invoice price minus rebates for your area to see what the true dealer cost is, just so you are an informed buyer when you walk into the dealership. Also edmunds.com may have some articles on how to negotiate so you are better prepared mentally for the purchasing experience.

    Good luck! :)
  • orangecat1orangecat1 Member Posts: 2
Thank you very much for your reply and input. I forgot to mention that this quote already reflects a $1,000 rebate from the dealer. Edmunds lists tmv for my area at $21,831 so I too think it is a good deal, just hope the dealer doesn't try to bail. I'm glad I found this online community. The posts here are insightful and have helped me a great deal with my car search.

I just leased a 2006 Toyota Highlander V6 4dr 2wd w/3rd Row. Options included were FE, AG, GY, PE, SR, TO, CF. Delivery fee of $605 for a total MSRP of $29,994. I negotiated down to:

    $26,075.
    + $400 acq. fee
    + $890 ohio tax

    Total - 27,365
    36 month lease
Money factor of .0019 & residual of $16,703
    Monthly payment - $ 379.00

So did I do OK? I feel pretty good considering I did almost no negotiating on our last car. Leased from Toyota Direct in Columbus. Very easy and low pressure.

    Thanks,

I agree with the others who responded, that is the lowest price I've ever seen for a base Highlander. A couple of car dealers in Chicago will advertise one for $21500 and then tell you it was just one at that price when you try to buy it. For a legitimate quote, dealers in this area are stuck in the low-mid 22's so your quote is incredible. Just make sure it all adds up.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
A delta of $4K between MSRP and negotiated sounds like a great deal. Congratulations!
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
Sounds like an excellent deal to me. If you haven't already done so get the invoice price from edmunds.com and subtract any rebates from your area to see what the dealer cost is -- anything from $500 to $1000 over this figure is reasonable and is a good deal.

Hey friend. I want to know if the problem (sloshing sound) is fixed yet? I bought a Sienna less than a week and observed this problem too. I will let the dealer try to screen the problem soon. Pls update me if your highlander is taken care already. The sound really annoyed and worried me a lot because it is a matter of safety.
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
The stock isn't at the dealer's lot yet, but it'll be there in another week.

If you search in Edmunds.com forum, you might seen this dealership name before -- Carson Toyota. They are the one give me the no-hassle quote, no running around Q&A kinda service. They are awesome!

For the month that I researching and quoting for my car, I submitted roughly 30+ quote request. You can find all the Toyota dealership around you using Toyota.com website locator. I believe all Toyota dealership site now have a quote feature... they are more or less built from some sort of templates.

From the 30+ requests, I got a solid 50% response rate... I got 15 quotes. Outta the 15 quotes, only 3-4 of them is actually worth pursuit. You will get a lot of "I'll beat anyone's price by $x"... which is crap. Longo & Carson are the two very up-front straight forward dealership. The "Power" group is also pretty helpful, but their price is always high.

Carson stock#28124-H is the car I'm reserving. Published MSRP is $42,094.00. Carson's quote basically is $4000 off MSRP. As the sales show be the computer screen behind, the "supposively" true dealership cost, they are basically making a 3-5% markup profit on the car right now.

    Kelvalm,

Thanks for the suggestion and updating me. I will let you and the forum know about my experience and price quote. I have registered at consumerreports.org for 30 day free trial (go to msn.com and they offer this). And for $14 i have got price report for highlander hybrid. It give idea about the regional rebates, standard equipment + additional equipment invoice price and also msrp addition

Last month (Feb end) I got best price quote of $37,400 for AWD hybrid limited with nav (that included 750 rebate). I am trying to get to 36,900 to 37,400 (tough one!). But if not then I will try to get it for 37400..hope the dealer contiues to agree with this rate.

I will buy it in April or May.. Let's see how much the patience pays.

    Will keep you all updated!

I have been looking for a highlander hybrid limited in St. Louis, Missouri. Best I have gotten is $700 over invoice. The problem is that the invoice quoted to me is 605 more than the Edmunds invoice price. They include an advertising fee of $605 dollars and told me that all dealers in St. Louis have the same fee. Is this legitimate? Also any thoughts on whether the hybrid Highlander may have a cash rebate soon?
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
It is a frequent practice for dealers to claim/include advertising in the invoice price, but strictly speaking invoice does not include advertising. Advertising is a legitimate expense that all dealers incur, but $605 sounds a bit high to me, though I don't know what the dealers in St. Louis typically have to pay.

In any event compare quotes from several dealerships to see which is the lowest -- regardless of whether the dealer wants to charge advertising or any other fees, just look at the bottom line and go with the dealer with the lowest. I like to solicit out-the-door quotes so it makes it harder for the dealers to spring any surprises.

Just purchased an 06 Highlander from Atlantic Toyota in Amityville, NY. at 1% over invoice. Base MSRP $27,840 plus options for a total MSRP of $34672 incl. delivery fee. Vehicle included the following options:
    FE Fifty State Emissions
    EH Cold Weather Pkg.
    EJ JBL Premium/6CD/8 speakers
    AG Appearance Pkg.
    HD Heated Seats
    JY Side/Curtain airbags
    LF Fog lamps
    LP Leather Pkg.
    RL Daytime running lights
    SR Sunroof
    TO Tow Prep pkg.
    CF Carpet/cargo mats
    GN Cargo Net
    WL Wheel locks

To that package I added Stainless Steel tube side steps and a spoiler which will be installed by the dealer.

Total price I paid was exactly $32,000, including dealer advertising fee. The only thing added to that price was NYS sales tax (a killer at 8.625%), title and license fees, plus an optional Extended warranty through Toyota.
I Paid an additional $825 (plus NYS sales tax) for 7/75000 ($0.deductible) Warranty, which I negotiated, knowing that I could get the same warranty for $875 (no tax) at link titlevia the internet. I also took advantage of the 3.9% financing Toyota is offering, instead of the rebate.

All in all I think I got a pretty decent price, and was treated very nice by the sales staff, but like most people, the minute I left the dealer I felt like I could have done better. My first Highlander was a leased 2003 Limited, but the 06' I bought has almost all the same options, plus I like the 16" wheels better than the 17" rims that come with the Limited.

Any thoughts on the price I paid?
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
Sounds like an ok price to me; you weren't taken to the cleaners or anything. You got a very good price on the extended warranty!!
  • 00boxsters00boxsters Member Posts: 202
Since this is the prices paid section, it seems the 2wd models match up closely.

Which is better for the buck and why? Thanx
  • yofiveohyofiveoh Member Posts: 2
I looked at both the Highlander and the Pilot before deciding on the Highlander. I liked the extra width of the Pilot because you could lay a 4' wide panel flat between the wheel wells, which you can't do with the Highlander. I thought the Highlander was quieter inside overall. I didn't like the column shift in the Pilot at all. Overall I think both vehicles are quality built, so it really comes down to personal choices and what kind of deal you can get. Good Luck.

Well, I've posted a few times on this thread by now. Today we finally sealed the deal. We purchased our HH 4WD Ltd from Carson Toyota.

I try to squeeze as much as I could, but in Southern CA and the high demand of it, I can only ask for so much.

    Edmunds Invoice Price $35,198.00
    Destination Charge $605.00
    Floor Mats Invoice Price $126.00
    Navigation Invoice Price $1,700.00
That total to $37629. And we all know that the MSRP is $42094.

My finaly purchase price ends up to be $38094, $4000 off MSRP, but still $465 over the published invoice price.

I also got this "dealership invoice price" of the car quoted as $34021. Supposively that's THE price that the dealer paid for the car. Also there suppose to be a dealer holdback of $785 on the vehicle.

So if I want to be very depress... I could use the dearlship price with the dealer holdback that they got, and see myself paying $38094 - $35667 = $2427 more than the absolute bottom price.

Or, I can tell myself I'm only paying $465 more than the published invoice price. :shades:

Their service have been great! No game no hidden fee, I would recommend anyone to them!
  • carguy1234carguy1234 Member Posts: 233
The dealership should have paid $36,843 ($37,629 invoice minus $786 holdback) for your vehicle as you have it configured (NAV and mats).

I'd be happy with that since you got good service and apparently didn't feel like you needed to take a shower after the deal was done! Some people have paid way more than that for the same vehicle, especially earlier on.
  • wcwiiiwcwiii Member Posts: 5
Congrats and enjoy your new vehicle! My understanding is that Toyota also has dealer specific incentives so it is nearly impossible to figure out the exact cost to the dealership. Also, my understanding is that if you give all "outstandings" on the survey they send, there is a bonus to your salesman.

In the end, we had a favorable buying experience and that counts a lot. It sounds like you did as well.

I've had fun learning a bit more about hybrids with some of the various hybrid web sites.

Finally, remember to thank Uncle Sam next year assuming you get a tax credit of 2 grand or so!

Had a real negative experience at Suburban Toyota in Troy, MI. The sales staff really lacks professionalism. The salesperson actually took a phone call during my closing then I waited for over an hour to get into F&I where they tried to hard sell me on extras. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention during my one hour wait to spend 25k, I saw them negatively treat an immigrant. If he only knew his rights....
