    Guys/Gals,
Just wanna know what you have to say for an 06 Highlander Limited with leather seat, six disc cd in dash, curtain air bags everything on it except Navi for $31,100 including the $500 rebate ?
    Any input is highly appreciated.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
I assume you mean the $31,100 is the price after the rebate; this is a pretty good quote (a very good price if the vehicle happens to be AWD!); if you want to negotiate and additional $500 off you can give it a shot, but the quote is pretty good as is!

sounds like a great price p53mustang. At that great price though, you have to wonder just exactly what you're getting. Be sure and check the car out thoroughly before you drive off. The mechanics at Toyota really have genius, but the dealerships like to make a buck here and there. Yes?
  • p53mustangp53mustang Member Posts: 16
Thanks guys,i'm so encouraged by this so far. I could have closed the deal the other day but since the dealership is quite a ways from where I live and the fact that we got a lot of things going on lately I just couldn't make the time to do so. Either way I already signed a purchase agreement (buyer order form) with the said price on it last week, it's just that at that time they didn't have the color that I wanted in stock (it's actually my fault, coming in I had already asked for the color that I want which they have in stock, but for some reason when I got there before we close the deal I had a change of heart with the color that I want). So my bad.

Finally took home the 06 v6 AWD Limited today for $31,100 everything on it except Nav. I have to say this is one of the fastest, smoothest car buying experience i've ever had.
Thanks again for the feedback guys/gals , this is a great forum.

I am in the market for a 06 v6 AWD limited. I was quoted $32058 (which includes my $400 college grad rebate). The price includes destination and the following packages FE,GY, HD, LA, LL, TO, VV and CF. The invoice price the dealer gave me was $32258. So my dad told me he could get the same car in NYC for 30700. I was wondering if I am paying too much for the car
  • jackietoyotajackietoyota Member Posts: 11
You should be able to get that Highlander for about $31,700 after the college grad rebate and the toyota rebate. The incentives in NY may be different than here in Mass though.

I purchased a 06 base model for 22,000.00 the first week of November in Columbia, South Carolina. www.dickdyertoyota.com

The 06 highlander limited actually is going to be 31933 w/ the college rebate since its only worth $400 now. I am taking the 4.9 % financing so I don't get the other $500 rebate.

I am a proud owner for a new 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited AWD w/ 3rd row seats in Indiglo Ink Pearl. It seems that this color is really hard to get. My dealer had a hard time getting this car.

    I paid $31858 before taxes and fee's.

    Its loaded with:
    GY - Side Curtain Airbags
HD - Heated Driver and Passenger Seats
    LA - Leather seats package
    LL - Limited Package
    TO - Tow Prep Package
    VV - value Package 2

    9950 down (borrow from parents)
finaniced the rest of it with 4.9% through toyota. I was suprised that a new college grad could get 726 on my credit score and get the 4.9% financing.

As a long time member of Edmunds, I value the input of all. I was just recently transferred from Phx to Colorado Springs and am now looking for a SUV. The list of candidates include

    Mercury Mariner
    Nissan Murano
    Toyota Highlander
    Toyota RAV4 (new 2006 w/ V6)
    Subaru Outback Turbo with auto
    Subaru Forrester Turbo with auto

I welcome your experience with any of these vehicles as well as with the Colorado Springs dealers of the same.

    Thanks much

I'm a long time COS resident currently shopping for a new SUV as well. After shopping around I'm convinced you can't beat a Toyota so I'm going for either a 4Runner or Highlander. Very different vehicles but both are high quality with great power trains.

As for dealers, both Toyota dealers in COS are bad news. High pressure sales, lots of junk fees and poor service. Neither has come close to the deals I've been offered by Elway Toyota in Denver.

I current drive a 97 Mercury Mountaineer and have had most service work done at South Point. If Mercury fit my needs, I'd most certainly deal with them. Their service has been very good.

I have no experience with COS Subaru or Nissan dealers so can't say how they are.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks Coloron,

Sorry to hear about the Toyota situation. For some reason a lot of Toyota dealers have a bad rep for service.

I have not driven a Mariner but have driven a Ford Escape and found it quite nice. I was leaning toward the Mariner because it is supposedly a wee bit softer riding. The Escape was very firm and handled very nicely so I wanted to test the Mariner to see if there was a noticeable difference.

    Thanks again - very helpful

Hi, first post here. I live in the metro NY region, and I'm looking to get a Highlander Hybrid Limited AWD. I got several online quotes back, the lowest is for $38639 before taxes and fees. That quote also includes carpet mats and the DVD navigation system. I already had one other dealer match the price.
Is that a good price or can it be even lower? Thanks in advance!

I am looking for a 06 HL AWD with V6 with the following options:
FE, EH, AG, GY, PE, RL, SR, TO, CF with dealer installed LF and RF.
The best quote I got before rebate was 28,100. What do you all think about this quote?
This is my first time buying a new car so any feedback wold be appreciated.
Also, has anyone had dealer-installed LF(Fog Lights) and RF(Rear Spoiler).

    Thanks

The Highlander is a great vehicle/most of the posters here really love this car. People in snow country like the AWD version (once they replace the factory tires which just don't cut it in snow).

Test drove the Mariner and Highlander in '01; not sure if the Mariner has been redesigned since then. The Mariner was too much car for me -- heavy and with a lot of luxury features which for my tastes were just overboard for what I was looking for at the time. (Who needs a telescoping steering wheel in an SUV?)

The Highlander is a car-based SUV, which means it is lighter and only suited for light off-roading, whereas the Mariner is a true truck-based SUV.

The RAV4 is of course smaller still than the Highlander. Looked at the RAV briefly in '01 but was too small for me; I believe they increased the size since then.

Can't really speak to the others, though I imagine they are all fine vehicles. You're of course aware the non-luxury version of the Mariner is the Explorer, and the luxury version of the Highlander is the RX330. Also consider the Pilot/MDX if you haven't already done so. You're aware of the new Subaru B9 Tribecca?

Issues to consider: If you'll be doing serious hauling of heavy construction material or serious off-roading, then a truck-based SUV is probably the appropriate choice. If you want an SUV mainly for the increased cargo capacity and/or if fuel economy is an issue then a car-based SUV may be preferable. If you want a luxury car then consider the SUV offerings of the luxury automakers. But bottom line is to test drive each and see which appeals to you...

I went to Edmunds.com to check at the 2006 AWD 4cyl 2.4l HL and tried to get a quote from the local dealers. One dealer told me that Toyota no longer produces this model. I check the website of tmsbuyatoyota.com
    http://www.tmsbuyatoyota.com/configurator/configuratorFrame.aspx?tda_id=3&dealer- _id=538&zip_code=55455&series_id=69&s_van=GM_STN_BYO&from_bat=1
and found that the 4x4 4cyl is not avaiblable.

With the increasing cost of gasoline (may go up to $5.00/gal in 2006-2007) it is too bad that Toyota stop making the 4 cyl. version of the HL.

Have recieved a quote for v6,2WD,3RD ROW, Sun roof..Out of the door price is 27767.72 (Including license, registration, documentation etc.). Please let me know if this is a good deal. This also includes other basic options..

Also would like to understand if there will be a difference in the price for with 3rd and without 3rd row.

Will appreciate your response at the earliest.

    Thanks,
    Sarma
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
    Sarma:

Better to list the price before tax/title/license as these fees vary from state to state. However, assuming CA fees (which tend to be fairly high, about 10% of the vehicle cost) this is a decent to good price; you're certainly not getting "taken" or anything, so I'd say go for it!!

(Also you can check edmunds.com for the invoice price and any rebates or marketing support in effect -- $500 or less over invoice minus rebates and marketing support is a very good price. The third row will definitely affect the price; edmunds.com invoice pricing will indicate how much.)

just got the new 2006 4wd limited hihglander with these specs LL,LA, HD, VV, TO, GS, in bluestone metallic. Went to philly to buy at central city toyota. Must say their probably the best in customer service. The price paid for it was 30,750. which i think is a fairly good price. drove the car just a day and have to say it is quiet outside and in compared to my other car. a friend i know has the lexus rx 330 and seems to ride the same. i think its as great a car as the 330 but without the price tag.

funny thing is, while driving back to NJ was getting about 34 mpg. the cruising speed was 60mph on the turnpike. so maybe that was the factor. but i was suprised at how little gas was used going back to NJ. maybe the salesman gave me the hybrid version?
  • charg117charg117 Member Posts: 1
I just got my 06 HL AWD w/3rd row + Option Combo A +CF, also in MI. The quotation you got is for the same except with an Option Combo C, which is $1,580 more expensive than A. But I paid $27,000, so the quotation you got is a better deal.
Which toyota dealship did you got this quotation from?
  • anand4anand4 Member Posts: 6
I am from Cary, North Carolina and the local dealers are quoting me $27000+tax+fees for a basic 06 HL V6 2WD. Is this a good deal. It is higher than TMV from edmunds. What is the best way to go about purchasing this vehicle close to the TMV price. Please share your experiences with any North Carolina dealers in purchasing an HL.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
That's not a great deal for a base HL with a V6 -- a killer price for this would be around $24000. The fact that it's higher than TMV means you're paying more than the average, not a good thing for an informed consumer such as yourself.

Consider getting a couple of price quotes over the internet (edmunds.com has a link for doing this), and then take your quotes back to the dealer and ask them if they can match those quotes. If not, be prepared to go to the dealerships you got quotes from via the internet.

If you don't want to do this then you want to start negotiating from bellow your target price, TMV or less in your case. Tell them you're willing to pay invoice + $200, and see what they come back with. Your ace in the hole in negotiating is to never fall in love with a vehicle and always be willing to walk away from the deal.

    Good luck!

    Folks,

I am in Denver and its down to the wire tonight for a Highlander 3.3 V6 AWD 3rd Row vs. the Honda Pilot LX. I am running up and down Arapahoe to Elway Toyota and Burt Kuni Honda. I went in assuming that I would get the HL since we rented it a few times on business and loved it but, right now I am thinking the Pilot and the lowest trim LX has a ton of options and they are quoting me $27,045 which is pretty good I think. Toyota folks have been arrogant jerks and basically point me to the web site for the price and will not budge on anything and will not really give me any numbers to chew on.

I head to Toyota one last time tomorrow and if I get the same run-around, I will head across the street to Honda and get the Pilot.

Read Edmunds Vehicle overview for the HL vs. Pilot and my sense is that the Pilot is ahead by a nose. Only downside I can see is the Pilot is a bit more heavy and loses out in MPG by about 2.

We just ordered an 06 HL V6 2WD with alloy wheels power driver seat, fog lamps today in Augusta, GA. with $1250 rebate (expires on 1/03/06) and year end dealer discount of $2550, the price is $24,100+tax+fees. The year end discount is supposed to be for the cars on their lot only, but we got a good discount anyway. We have known our sales person for years, and he tried his best to help us to get a good price from his manager.

Try to go to a city with more than one dealer near by and get more than one quote. We have another dealer within 25 miles, but we did not go there because we think we probably already got as good a deal as we can for this popular model.

Good luck. Try to do it before 01/03/2006 before the Toyota rebate ends.

Is it a four cylinder or V-6?
  • anorrisanorris Member Posts: 3
If there is anyone reading this from the Richmond Virginia or Central Virginia area, what is the best price you've gotten on a V-6 Limited Highlander 2 WD? Have any of you negotiated the "processing fees" which seem to vary from $149-$249 depending on dealership? The invoice price according to Edmunds is $29,872 with leather, heated seats, towing prep, etc. What are the dealers making on the back end either from financing or the holdbacks?
  • anand4anand4 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for all of your help. I followed your advice and I am now being offered $25,396.71 out the door. I think this is a good deal. This deal is from Toyota of Henderson in North Carolina. Is it possible to do better than this in this area?
  • tgthsutgthsu Member Posts: 7
Unfortunately, our "documentation fee" or you processing fee in our area is non-negotiable. The one in our area is $399. I wish it were ONLY $149-$249.
  • tgthsutgthsu Member Posts: 7
    Your price is great.

Our out of the door price is $26307. Since they did not have any in stock and had to order from another dealer, This is about as much as they will do.
  • tgthsutgthsu Member Posts: 7
I just bought a Highlander because our local dealer did not think there will be any discount on the Rav4. I would like to have a V6 anyway. Before 1/03/2006 there is a $1250 reabate on Highlander plus year-end discount. So we just went ahead and bought the Highlander.
  • landdriverlanddriver Member Posts: 607
    I agree it's a great price -- go for it!! :)

I purchased a 2006 Highlander Hybrid AWD Limited w/ Nav System for $38599 (before taxes and fees) in the New York metro region. If you need more info, just reply to this post. The TMV cost for this model (w/o the nav system) is $41782. :D

    I purchased 05 HL v6 4WD $26500 + tax+license with following options.
    sunroof/moonroof,side curtain air-bags
    16-inch wheels,Towing package
    weather package,rear spoiler
8-speaker JBL system, audio controls on steering wheel
Sticker price was $32500 and it was the last 05 left so dealer went down to this price. I like the car very much. Is this a good price or I got ripped off?

Hi - I am in the Boston area and looking to buy a Highlander V6 4wd.

    I have received two quotes:

    (1) $32,700 for a Limited Highlander v6 4wd with the Luxury Package and the following additional options LP, SR, JY, EJ, HD, TO

    AND

    (2) $30,900 for a SR5 Highlander v6 4wd with the following options: LP, SR, JY, EJ, DJ

Anythoughts if the Limited is worth the additional $ and whether these sound like good deals?

    Thanks
  • adam4adam4 Member Posts: 5
    Beantown111,

Go for the Limited it is worth having the V6 power and the luxury options. You will enjoy the drive. I just bought one and I really enjoy the experience.

I'm not sure the $1,000 rebate is still on. Even if not, you could still ask for a Limited-Luxury options for $1K less than the $32,7K quote. I'm sure there will be a dealer out there willing to offer you that price. Your option (2) seems way too high.
  • beantown111beantown111 Member Posts: 6
    Thanks Adam4

The dealer has agreed to drop the price on the Limited to 32.2K with 4.9% financing (financing roughly 12-15K).

Explained the rebate which ends today (at least in MA) is either $500K or if you qualify, 4.9% financing (otherwise given good credit history you are somewhere in the 6 range it seems). So I think foregoing the extra $500 and locking in the lower interest rate probably is preferable at 32.2K.

Any other thoughts before I close the deal?
  • adam4adam4 Member Posts: 5
Edmond's TMV is about $32,139 (w/ all those options), after the $1,000 rebate so your offer is still a good deal. Not sure why in MA the rebate is only $500 or 4.9%, as opposed to $1,000 or 3.9% for qualified buyers offered by Toyota thru Jan 3rd.

Though you could've gotten a little less in price and APR, however still a decent deal for a V6 AWD.

Hello, I am in Los Angeles, CA and just bought an 06 2WD highlander V6 with floor mats and the following:
    - 50-State Emissions(FE)
    - Appearance Package(AG)
    - Driver & Front-Passenger Seat-Mounted Side Airbags w/1st & 2nd Row Side Curtain Airbags(GY)
    - Heated & Foldable Outside Rear View Mirror(EH)
    - Tow Prep Package(TO)

I paid $25,200+tax+fees....MSRP is $28,200. Is this a good deal??

  • beantown111beantown111 Member Posts: 6
Thanks Adam4. I purchased the car last night and had only 1 hickup. I bought the Limited Highlander AWD for $32,000 plus $1,610 tax. The sales manager showed me his dealer invoice and I matched all the prices against Edmond's TMV so was feeling pretty good (I came out around $12 under the Dealer Invoice price prior to electing either the $500 rebate or 4.9% financing availble in MA). However, he then added on an advertising cost of around $450 to the total bill, claiming Toyota requires this charge of every purchase and that because it is Winter this cost is higher with respect to Highlanders right now (all the Highlander advertising). He refused to budge on this. At the end of the day I caved, though fully expecting that I was being taken. Any insight into this so called advertising fee?
  • adam4adam4 Member Posts: 5
Congratulation on your Limited Highlander Beantown. No, that advertising fee is news to me as well. For my HL I paid about a thousand less than you did plus taxes, tags and and acquisition fee of $200 (not sure where all this goes, maybe some portion to advertising?). I sure dislike a dealer not coming up front in telling a customer about these kind of fees. My tactic is to talk it over the phone or by e-mail about any extra fees before I go there to sign the deal to make sure they don't surprise me with any hidden fees. Your dealer seems to be doing a lot of advertising, maybe more on his own than through Toyota, and passing it to the consumers.

Other than that, I think your deal is still good.
  • tgthsutgthsu Member Posts: 7
The Toyota dealer in town charges $399 for documentation fees. I am still not happy about this since I already paid for it, but could not do anything about it. Can somebody explain to me why this could be so high. The owner says that other dealers charges more. That seems to be a poor excuse.
  • ddpstcddpstc Member Posts: 44
Many dealers do not charge advertising fee. I did not pay for mine 04 HL. However, these dealers do not sell car at invoice price until as late as April.
It looks like the rebate amount in Northern States ($500) is much less than that in Southern States ($1000-1250). So it may be worthwhile to buy a car in a Southern state, then take a vacation and drive it home, especially having vacation at a warm climate state such as Florida, TX, AZ during the Winter months. The extra saving from rebate ($750) will more than pay for the vacation.
  • beantown111beantown111 Member Posts: 6
    Thanks for all the responses.

It seems like the rebate in New England (they were calling this event Toyotathon and saying it is the biggest sale of the year) was less than elsewhere. Funny thing is I just got a follow up call from another Toyota dealer in the area saying the rebate for Feb. went up to $750. So much for Toyotathon being the biggest sale of the year.

The adverstising fee I was charged did appear on the "dealer invoice" that the sales manager showed me. He told me that he could not remove it, nor would he take anything else off the price as we were already below is invoice price (of course this included the advertising fee). At the end of the day, I was just too tired to do it over, and figured I still did OK based on TMV.
  • jimminy06jimminy06 Member Posts: 1
Hey, that sounds like a good deal. Are you saying you got a straight discount to $38599 on a $42,094 MSRP (FE/NV/CF) vehicle? No trade-in? Big difference from the no-nav TMV, what's your best guess as to why?
  • jafo18301jafo18301 Member Posts: 5
If you don't mind me asking, which dealership gave you this price? Me and my wife are looking at getting one of these as well. We just came back from a dealer and they were asking $44,000 with Nav and rear DVD entertainment. This is before Tax, tags, and etc. That price you were given is awesome. Thanks for the help.
