Just wanna know what you have to say for an 06 Highlander Limited with leather seat, six disc cd in dash, curtain air bags everything on it except Navi for $31,100 including the $500 rebate ?
Any input is highly appreciated.
Thanks again for the feedback guys/gals , this is a great forum.
I paid $31858 before taxes and fee's.
Its loaded with:
GY - Side Curtain Airbags
HD - Heated Driver and Passenger Seats
LA - Leather seats package
LL - Limited Package
TO - Tow Prep Package
VV - value Package 2
9950 down (borrow from parents)
finaniced the rest of it with 4.9% through toyota. I was suprised that a new college grad could get 726 on my credit score and get the 4.9% financing.
Mercury Mariner
Nissan Murano
Toyota Highlander
Toyota RAV4 (new 2006 w/ V6)
Subaru Outback Turbo with auto
Subaru Forrester Turbo with auto
I welcome your experience with any of these vehicles as well as with the Colorado Springs dealers of the same.
Thanks much
Bob
As for dealers, both Toyota dealers in COS are bad news. High pressure sales, lots of junk fees and poor service. Neither has come close to the deals I've been offered by Elway Toyota in Denver.
I current drive a 97 Mercury Mountaineer and have had most service work done at South Point. If Mercury fit my needs, I'd most certainly deal with them. Their service has been very good.
I have no experience with COS Subaru or Nissan dealers so can't say how they are.
Hope that helps.
Sorry to hear about the Toyota situation. For some reason a lot of Toyota dealers have a bad rep for service.
I have not driven a Mariner but have driven a Ford Escape and found it quite nice. I was leaning toward the Mariner because it is supposedly a wee bit softer riding. The Escape was very firm and handled very nicely so I wanted to test the Mariner to see if there was a noticeable difference.
Thanks again - very helpful
Is that a good price or can it be even lower? Thanks in advance!
FE, EH, AG, GY, PE, RL, SR, TO, CF with dealer installed LF and RF.
The best quote I got before rebate was 28,100. What do you all think about this quote?
This is my first time buying a new car so any feedback wold be appreciated.
Also, has anyone had dealer-installed LF(Fog Lights) and RF(Rear Spoiler).
Thanks
Test drove the Mariner and Highlander in '01; not sure if the Mariner has been redesigned since then. The Mariner was too much car for me -- heavy and with a lot of luxury features which for my tastes were just overboard for what I was looking for at the time. (Who needs a telescoping steering wheel in an SUV?)
The Highlander is a car-based SUV, which means it is lighter and only suited for light off-roading, whereas the Mariner is a true truck-based SUV.
The RAV4 is of course smaller still than the Highlander. Looked at the RAV briefly in '01 but was too small for me; I believe they increased the size since then.
Can't really speak to the others, though I imagine they are all fine vehicles. You're of course aware the non-luxury version of the Mariner is the Explorer, and the luxury version of the Highlander is the RX330. Also consider the Pilot/MDX if you haven't already done so. You're aware of the new Subaru B9 Tribecca?
Issues to consider: If you'll be doing serious hauling of heavy construction material or serious off-roading, then a truck-based SUV is probably the appropriate choice. If you want an SUV mainly for the increased cargo capacity and/or if fuel economy is an issue then a car-based SUV may be preferable. If you want a luxury car then consider the SUV offerings of the luxury automakers. But bottom line is to test drive each and see which appeals to you...

and found that the 4x4 4cyl is not avaiblable.
With the increasing cost of gasoline (may go up to $5.00/gal in 2006-2007) it is too bad that Toyota stop making the 4 cyl. version of the HL.
Also would like to understand if there will be a difference in the price for with 3rd and without 3rd row.
Will appreciate your response at the earliest.
Thanks,
Sarma
Better to list the price before tax/title/license as these fees vary from state to state. However, assuming CA fees (which tend to be fairly high, about 10% of the vehicle cost) this is a decent to good price; you're certainly not getting "taken" or anything, so I'd say go for it!!
(Also you can check edmunds.com for the invoice price and any rebates or marketing support in effect -- $500 or less over invoice minus rebates and marketing support is a very good price. The third row will definitely affect the price; edmunds.com invoice pricing will indicate how much.)
funny thing is, while driving back to NJ was getting about 34 mpg. the cruising speed was 60mph on the turnpike. so maybe that was the factor. but i was suprised at how little gas was used going back to NJ. maybe the salesman gave me the hybrid version?
Which toyota dealship did you got this quotation from?
Consider getting a couple of price quotes over the internet (edmunds.com has a link for doing this), and then take your quotes back to the dealer and ask them if they can match those quotes. If not, be prepared to go to the dealerships you got quotes from via the internet.
If you don't want to do this then you want to start negotiating from bellow your target price, TMV or less in your case. Tell them you're willing to pay invoice + $200, and see what they come back with. Your ace in the hole in negotiating is to never fall in love with a vehicle and always be willing to walk away from the deal.
Good luck!
I am in Denver and its down to the wire tonight for a Highlander 3.3 V6 AWD 3rd Row vs. the Honda Pilot LX. I am running up and down Arapahoe to Elway Toyota and Burt Kuni Honda. I went in assuming that I would get the HL since we rented it a few times on business and loved it but, right now I am thinking the Pilot and the lowest trim LX has a ton of options and they are quoting me $27,045 which is pretty good I think. Toyota folks have been arrogant jerks and basically point me to the web site for the price and will not budge on anything and will not really give me any numbers to chew on.
I head to Toyota one last time tomorrow and if I get the same run-around, I will head across the street to Honda and get the Pilot.
Read Edmunds Vehicle overview for the HL vs. Pilot and my sense is that the Pilot is ahead by a nose. Only downside I can see is the Pilot is a bit more heavy and loses out in MPG by about 2.

Try to go to a city with more than one dealer near by and get more than one quote. We have another dealer within 25 miles, but we did not go there because we think we probably already got as good a deal as we can for this popular model.
Good luck. Try to do it before 01/03/2006 before the Toyota rebate ends.
Our out of the door price is $26307. Since they did not have any in stock and had to order from another dealer, This is about as much as they will do.
sunroof/moonroof,side curtain air-bags
16-inch wheels,Towing package
weather package,rear spoiler
8-speaker JBL system, audio controls on steering wheel
Sticker price was $32500 and it was the last 05 left so dealer went down to this price. I like the car very much. Is this a good price or I got ripped off?
I have received two quotes:
(1) $32,700 for a Limited Highlander v6 4wd with the Luxury Package and the following additional options LP, SR, JY, EJ, HD, TO
AND
(2) $30,900 for a SR5 Highlander v6 4wd with the following options: LP, SR, JY, EJ, DJ
Anythoughts if the Limited is worth the additional $ and whether these sound like good deals?
Thanks
Go for the Limited it is worth having the V6 power and the luxury options. You will enjoy the drive. I just bought one and I really enjoy the experience.
I'm not sure the $1,000 rebate is still on. Even if not, you could still ask for a Limited-Luxury options for $1K less than the $32,7K quote. I'm sure there will be a dealer out there willing to offer you that price. Your option (2) seems way too high.
The dealer has agreed to drop the price on the Limited to 32.2K with 4.9% financing (financing roughly 12-15K).
Explained the rebate which ends today (at least in MA) is either $500K or if you qualify, 4.9% financing (otherwise given good credit history you are somewhere in the 6 range it seems). So I think foregoing the extra $500 and locking in the lower interest rate probably is preferable at 32.2K.
Any other thoughts before I close the deal?
Though you could've gotten a little less in price and APR, however still a decent deal for a V6 AWD.
- 50-State Emissions(FE)
- Appearance Package(AG)
- Driver & Front-Passenger Seat-Mounted Side Airbags w/1st & 2nd Row Side Curtain Airbags(GY)
- Heated & Foldable Outside Rear View Mirror(EH)
- Tow Prep Package(TO)
I paid $25,200+tax+fees....MSRP is $28,200. Is this a good deal??
That was an excellent price!!!
This is a fair deal -- not the deal of the century but you weren't taken to the cleaners or anything. Congratulations!!
Other than that, I think your deal is still good.
It looks like the rebate amount in Northern States ($500) is much less than that in Southern States ($1000-1250). So it may be worthwhile to buy a car in a Southern state, then take a vacation and drive it home, especially having vacation at a warm climate state such as Florida, TX, AZ during the Winter months. The extra saving from rebate ($750) will more than pay for the vacation.
It seems like the rebate in New England (they were calling this event Toyotathon and saying it is the biggest sale of the year) was less than elsewhere. Funny thing is I just got a follow up call from another Toyota dealer in the area saying the rebate for Feb. went up to $750. So much for Toyotathon being the biggest sale of the year.
The adverstising fee I was charged did appear on the "dealer invoice" that the sales manager showed me. He told me that he could not remove it, nor would he take anything else off the price as we were already below is invoice price (of course this included the advertising fee). At the end of the day, I was just too tired to do it over, and figured I still did OK based on TMV.
