Is this a good deal
ANybody knows any good dealer in N Calif who is willing to make a deal ?
Sounds like not a bad price.
In case it matters, I'm in Southern California.

Is that a decent deal?
We would be taking delivery on it tommorow.

Its actually for my 79 year old parents and they believe it will quite likely be their last vehicle they own. They have had a Camry wagon since 1989 and this is the closest thing to that that's offered from Toyota or Honda these days..
They are on a limited income and I hope this is the right decision for them.
I think we will still try to get the carpet mats thrown in. I think thats (CF).

Options:
AG Appearance package,
LF Foglights,
PE Power driver's seat,
RL daytime running lights,
TO towing prep,
CF floormats

1. Do you really need the 4x4, or can u manage with the 4x2 with the snow option?
(I live in New York.....)
2. What are the options that I would absolutely need? (Not "want"....)
3. What is the price that I can expect to pay in NY for a 4x4, 4 cyl? (based on the experience of users who have been to a clearance...)
Thanks,
New Learner
I am in the market for the same car - 4x4, four cyl, model 6920c - and I am in the New York City area. I just started researching and the best price quoted to me was $24,400 financed over 5 years (3.9% finance charge).
Can anyone advise whether the $24,400 price is reasonable for that car? Thanks.
I had a quote of 24+K for a 4x4 white HL, a couple of months ago....dont remember the options.....there was I think cold weather, fog lights etc.
Is the offer u got part of the clearance? Is the financing from Toyota? What are the options u have?
Pls let me know,
Thanks,
NL
This is a base 4 cylnder 4x4 car with Mud Guards (MG), Privacy Glass (PG) and floor mats (Z1). It has a base MSRP of $25,680 and a total MSRP of $26,980, which includes the destination charge ($565) and the above-mentioned options.
The dealer offered me the car for $24,400, which includes the destination charge. I would then finance it through Toyota at 3.9% over 60 months. The tax in my town is 7.5%, which is $1830.
If I put $2000 down and finance the rest, including $217.50 for miscellaneous fees, then my monthly payment would be $449.14.
I discovered that the invoice price of model 6920 is $23,418 including the destination charge, but that does not factor in the options. The MSRP on the options is $730 but I estimate that it actually costs the dealer closer to $600. Allegedly, the dealer holdback is $514, which means the dealer's cost for the car and options is $23,404.
Toyota's current clearance sale is either $800 cash back or 3.9% apr for 5 years. I'm taking the 3.9%.
I think, but I could be way off base and I hope someone can shed some light on my estimates, that the dealer is making approximately $996.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
$25,023 after rebate before tax, license and fees.
$500 under invoice before the rebate. $4220 below MSRP.
Now is the time to buy a '05 Highlander. There are deals to be made. I suggest you look in the bigger cities and find a dealer with some inventory. However, I bought mine from a dealer in a small town with just one highlander on the lot.
2005 Highlander, V6, 3rd row seats, 4x2, green, had appearance and cold weather package, mats & mudguards. $24.4, including rebate of $800. List was $27.7
Could have had the same in a 4x4 for $25.5.
This dealer had several on the lot and not much turnover.
Thanks.
This price is before the $800 rebate.
Is this a good price? This is in the Boston area.
Thanks.
Thanks,
I'm looking at buying the current model FWD w/3rd Row, around mid-late September in Seattle, any pointers? :confuse:
Thanks,
Itemized:
$29,283 – car w/ options and destination charge and all other fees not explicitly stated in the following (etch-in fee, credit inquiry fee, whatever)
$1756.98 – sales tax
$95.00 – documentation fee
$342.00 – DMV – new plates, new registration, financing the car ($20 more for financing?)
$7.50 – tire tax
------------------
$31,464.48
-$800 rebate
---------------
Out the door price: $30,684.48 - finance rate: 5.60% No trade-in.
Notes:
Edmunds before $800 rebate:
MSRP: $31,340 + $199 + $59 + $334 = $3,1392
Invoice: $27,705 + $473 (reduced extra options’ list price by 20%) = $28,178
TMV: $28,937 + $500 (added 5% more to invoice for extra options) = $29431
In NJ:
1. One dealer played games giving me a quote - sent the MSRP list. I wouldn't talk to him but instead emailed him saying that I was looking for an out-the-door price, with each fee listed. He left a phone message giving an ill-defined quote. I didn't go with him.
2. Another dealer said that he had the car I wanted w/ the exact options - I spelled out EVERYTHING via email and fax. I went in and the car had a spoiler and pin-striping, two things I didn't want. He started to peel off the pin striping with his nails (probably an attempt to get me to feel obliged to buy it b/c he modified it). He then said we'd have to come to terms on the spoiler b/c it was more money. The spoiler wa $334 MSRP and he came back and said I'd need to pay $200 more for the car w/ the spoiler, thinking that I'd see a great deal ($200 instead of $334). Well, I told him that the car that I had negotiated for had the Z1 (cargo net, mats, 1st aid kit) package ($345 MSRP) which was replaced in this car with the CF option (floor and cargo mats - $199 MSRP) and R7 (spoiler - $334 list). So ... the MSRP difference between the two cars is: $199 + $334 - $345 = $188; therefore, $200 means that not only am I paying FULL LIST price for the spoiler but that I was paying $12 more than full list price! I walked when they wouldn't budge on this or the etch-in fee. They called a couple of times after to re-negotiate.
3. The car that I finally bought the car from had 2 sales people tell me that they had the car that I wanted -- I decided that I wanted the spoiler and sent this dealership the exact specs. When it was time to pick it up, they said 'oops, it didn't have a spoiler -- they had to add it ... took a couple of days'. After coming back with a ridiculously high finance rate, I told them the one I could get elsewhere and they matched it. Then, despite the contract and a few emails back-and-forth, one of the sales people said that the $800 rebate only applied if I paid cash for the vehicle. When I pushed and said that it didn't (in other words, I didn't act like 'maybe he was right'), he pretended to be confused and apologized for the 'mistake'. LOL!
Thanks for the detailed car buying info!
Though I pride myself on being a tough negotiator when buying a car in person, for my next car I plan to use the internet as you did to get multiple quotes. One question I have is why one would need a completely itemized list from the dealership -- I'd assume if they listed the options their vehicle has, without assigning specific prices to each option, and gave you the bottom line price that they would sell the car to you for, that would be all you'd really need and care about. Once again, I'm new to internet purchasing, so would appreciate your insights on how a detailed itemized aids in negotiations.
1. Price of car w/ options and destination charge (does not include rebate):
2. Sales Tax:
3. Documentation Fee:
4. DMV/Registration fee:
5. Tire fee (in J, they charge $1.50 per tire):
I found that they may give you a nice price for the car & options but then try to make it up in extra fees like 'window etch-in fee', 'credit inquiry fee', higher-than-average 'documentation fee', etc. I don't mind if they add these fees to make a bit of a profit -- just so long as I have their out-the-door price w/ all the fees so that I can make a valid comparison with other offers. I found the 'window etch-in' fee is garbage (it would save me $4 on my State Farm insurance per year in NJ) -- one dealer had it as a standard $129; another had it as a standard $299. The doc fee varies, too -- one dealer had $159 and another had $95. Again, the bottom line is that I found it doesn't matter what the fees are -- as long as they list each and every one so that there are no surprises and you now have an exact, bottom-line, out-the-door price for comparison.
I made a minor mistake, I think, by not demanding the exact amount for the DMV fee. They had enough information to tell me exactly what it was; they estimated it to be $299 but then it turned into $322 and then $342 (an extra $20 because I was financing??? -- I let them charge me for it).
The first one that I was majorly dealing with was Galaxy Toyota in Eatontown, NJ. If the Freehold one fell through, I would have gone back to the Galaxy one because they were still willing to negotiate.
(Where would we be without window etching...)
I was suprised the dealer only charged $45 doc fee. I am glad they did not try to get me to pay for window etching or other ridiculous dealer add ons. Financing was 3.95% 60 mos. I was pre approved through a credit union.
What was interesting is that the dealer would only give me this price if I did the loan through CUDL. I could not sign the loan papers at the Credit Union. When they do the loan through the CUDL computer the dealer makes 1% on the deal.
CUDL = (credit union direct lending)
People should ask to speak to the Fleet Manager when they call a dealer on the phone. That way you get to skip some of the games the salesman play.
MSRP: $29,248
Price after rebate before tax & lic.: $25,023
Out the door: $27,375
We bought the V6 fwd w/3rd row seat.
EH,AG,HE,JY,LF,TO + carpet mat set and chrome exaust tip.
Would you mind sharing name of dealership or town in SC where you are purchasing this HL Ltd?
I live in houston and want to buy a new 2005 Highlander 4X2 v6 3.3 L. When I tried to contact a local dealer, they gave me the following quote
2005 Toyota Highlander w/out third row, DJ, NE, PE, PG, TO and M5 carpet mat set.
The quote price is 24,547.00 (already include cashback) without tax, title and license fee.
I built in it in edmunds and it only goes to 24,156 before 800$ cash rebate. So I think this price is high, but I am not sure since the dealer wrote back to me and said I should count destination and Toyota advertising chage. Can anyone give some suggestion.
Best wish
