  • drocdroc Member Posts: 4
I'll try this again, since I didn't really get a response.
08 Limited AWD, nav, dvd, power door, rear air, tow prep, heated seats, spoiler, moonroof, carpet cargo/3rd row. 7255 in options, MSRP 42,350.

Dealer final offer 33,400 plus 299 doc fee which I had the trade increased by 200 after I balked.

Invoice is 37675 including destination and 500 Toyota dealer advertising.

Should I jump on this deal if I am ok with the trade?

    Thanks.

It looks like that it is a fair or good deal for a loaded 08 Limited AWD.
  • klcwklcw Member Posts: 6
Maybe $30,000 should be the starting point for negotiation, for getting a fair/good deal around $30,500.
  • dallas12dallas12 Member Posts: 14
I checked with Toyota of Mckinney, they are saying 23K for a 2008 used Highlander driveout price. I think for a used one its at a higher side. Thanks.

Hi-- need some advice on purchasing a new car. I received 3 online quotes for a 2009 sport edition 2WD-- options including the following

JBL AM/FM 6-Disc In Dash CD Changer with ... 630.00Hands-Free Phone Capability via Bluetooth ..Wireless Technology, XM Satellite Ready ....Capability (Requires a XM receiver), .......MP3/WMA Playback Capability and 9 Speakers .(including subwoofer) in 7 locations .......Cold Weather Package Includes: Heated ...... 60.00Power Outside Mirrors, Windshield Wiper ....De-icer Grid ...............................Homelink Universal Transceiver ............. 125.00Special Color .............................. 220.00Manual Rear Air Conditioning System ........ 385.00w/ Rear Vents for 2nd & 3rd Row ............Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof w/Sunshade ....... 850.00Tow Prep Package includes: 5,000lbs ........ 220.00towing capacity, Heavy Duty Radiator .......w/Engine Oil Cooler, 240 watt fan ..........coupling, Transmission Oil Cooler w/ Water .Cooler, 150 amp alternator, and Pre-Wire ...Harness ....................................EVP Package Support - QF ...................Carpet/Cargo Mat - 3 Row Seating ........... 275.00

Basically: MSRP $33,510; the best deal I was offered so far is $29,415 (includes destination fees) I still will have to pay for taxes and other fees. Is this a fair deal? Or is there still a lot more room to negotiate. The other 2 dealers were maybe a couple hundred dollars above this. Thank-you in advance for any advice.

    Hi,

I need to make a decision soon regarding the 2009 Highlander (not hybrid). Here's what I need in terms of options:

    SR
    QB
    QM
    TO
    RL
    EH

Here are the prices from Edmunds:

    MSRP 32,395
    Invoice 29,024
    TMV 29,657

This is in the state of Washington - so there's a 9% sales tax

Adding the 9% tax to the above prices, I get:

    MSRP 35,311
    Invoice 31,636
    TMV 32,326

What's a good price that I should pay for the car? How does 32,000 OTD including TTL sound?

    Please help!!

    Thanks a lot!

Just wondering if anyone can share what the dealer hold-back is on the 09 Highlander. Are there any other variables we should know about when negotiating price? I think I've read before that Toyota isn't as aggressive as even Honda is with their pricing...

    thanks for the info!

    Hi,

I got a bunch of dealers willing to sell the 09 Highlander limited edition AWD with QH (pkg 7) for 34,900 + TTL. This is in the state of washington.

    Any comments on the price?

I am interested in buying a new Toyota Highlander for a number of reasons, but primarily because Toyota is offering 0%. Is there any catch to this program? Anyone have experience is going through the process. I know my credit is good enough to qualify, but just wondering if there is a catch.

Any and all responses are appreciated. I'm new to buying cars and would really appreciate the advice.

    thx
  • boston26boston26 Member Posts: 13
Sounds like an OK deal. I think you are getting it at or slightly below the invoice price. I would go with the JBL, Moonroof, NAV etc. DVD is something you can retrofit after the fact, but not NAV.

    Good luck!

Help! KBB, Edmunds, USAA and even some dealer Websites list the EVP2 features for the base FWD Highlander as including power drivers seat, power liftgate, and a ton of other good stuff that we need (wife's a foot shorter than me :) ). But after going to look at one with this package number, it only had on it a few things like rear manual AC. And indeed if you now go to the Toyota Website, the "tiny" EVP2 version is what's listed. What gives? Did Toyota actually produce any with the long list of EVP2 goodies? I'm in NorCal, if that makes any difference. Not worth searching around if none were ever manufactured that way (and we can't afford a Limited).
  • aviddiver_heraviddiver_her Member Posts: 8
I don't know anything about the EDP2 but we just purchased a Sport edition in Northern Cal. The base models we saw did not have the power drivers seat or lift gate. The Sport edition has power drivers seat and some other goodies as standard. Sport is less expensive than the Limited. Since the base would take an add on to get power seats it might not be that big of a difference in price if you can find a Sport without too many optional features added.

    Hi,

Which dealership did you go to? Did you get the QH or the QI?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks
  • rollingwoodsrollingwoods Member Posts: 9
Thanks. We were hoping not to have to go with the tauter suspension of the Sport, since we're used to the cushy ride of our 2000 Sienna XLE. But I guess the Sport is the only option. Very hard to find one that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles we don't want though. I fear my wife is rapidly moving into "Let's just get another Sienna since we like that so much." :(
  • aviddiver_heraviddiver_her Member Posts: 8
Have you tried test driving the Sport? We drove the Base model and the Sport and did not notice a difference. However, we are not real sensitive to small differences. We werepreviously driving a Chevy HHR and when we test drove the Highlander we both found ourselves when bracing we went over bumps. We started laughing when we realized we were bracing and nothing happened when we went over the bumps. We hadn't realized we were doing that.

I did a quick search and the few statements I found seem to support our experience with our test drive. Here is a link to one discussion, unfortunately it is from 2007 so I don't know if it has any meaning since I don't know what all changed with the 2008-2009 modifications..

Purchased in Northern California March 2008
Highlander Sport listed base price was $30,000 plus accessories $6,905 and destination charge $745 for MRSP $37,650. We paid $33,152. (plus taxes etc.) We were told that is $400 above invoice. As usual we ended up paying for several accessories we didn't want in order to get what we did want.

Accessories included on the one we bought:
    Cold weather Package - $60
    Homelink Univ. Transceiver - $125
    Leather heated seats - $1840
    Navigation system - $2530
    Power Rear Door - $400
Special Color - $220 (Blizzard Pearl - It has a beautiful iridescence in the sun!)
    Manual Rear AC - $385
    Moonroof - $850
    Tow package - $220
    Carpet/cargo Mats - $275

FYI just in case: Since you are a California buyer can I assume you are well aware sales tax increases 1% on April 1 and registration increases significantly mid May?

Not a reason to buy if you are unsure what you want to do but if you are close it may be worth deciding sooner than later.
  • rollingwoodsrollingwoods Member Posts: 9
Oh yeah, we're aware of the added costs. Which is why the big push this weekend. But ultimately I'd rather pay a few hundred more and get a car we both can live with.
One final note on EVP2: found a base Highlander on a local Toyota website that listed it as having all the extra goodies as part of the package. At least this time I was smart enough to have the sales people actually go look in the car to see if it might actually have 'em. Guess what--their website was wrong. Just the "mini-EVP2" stuff on it. I'm learning.
  • aviddiver_heraviddiver_her Member Posts: 8
I didn’t get the feeling the internet searches I did on the dealers web sites was very accurate.
We used Golden 1 discount buyers program so we would not have to deal with the sales people. We were sent straight to the fleet manager so didn't have to deal with all the negotiation games. We told him what we wanted and he searched the computer for all the cars in Northern CA that were close matches. He actually could see the details from the window sticker so I think his info was pretty accurate. They traded one of their cars with a dealer in the bay area and drove ours to the Sacramento area for us.

Michael's Toyota in Bellevue. Not sure what you mean by QH or QI - i got the 4 cyl model with 3rd row seat, power driver seat, keyless entry, engine immobilizer, roof rack

We are in the market to buy a new Highlander in Cen. TX-Austin area. I have been doing some edmunds research and we want the most base vehicle we can get- no 3rd row. We know we will get the convenience package, maybe 8 way driver power seat. I am getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 24,800 + TTL. Is this a good ballpark figure? Too high or too low?

Looking for feedback from the experts:

Offered the above car in Blizzard Pearl with following options -
    6 disc CD changer
    Auto Rear AC
    EVP7 (QR-1)
    Heated front seats
    PWR Rear Hatch
    Moonroof

    MSRP 35,940
    Invoice 32,868
    USAA Price 31,868+TTL

Libertyville Toyota in Chicagoland area. Any input is appreciated??
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
Looks reasonable - ask the dealer to throw in some accessories (floor mats, cargo nets). Did u look at RAV4 since you don't want the 3rd row.
  • hontoyhontoy Member Posts: 13
$1000 below invoice looks pretty good to me.
  • mmunoz1mmunoz1 Member Posts: 2
Thanks! We seriously considered the RAV4, but like the comfort and cargo space capacity better in the Highlander. The 3rd row wouldn't be a deal breaker for us, but since people have commented that it is pretty cramped we don't really see the benefit.

Hi, I'm looking to make my first car purchase without the help of my parents. As an early college graduation gift, I wanted to buy myself a car. I've always loved Highlanders, but am in no position to buy a new one. I just wanted to get some feedback on a potential HH that is for sale at a dealership here in town and see if you guys thought it was a good buy or not?
    - Is that too many miles?
    - What is the battery life and have any of you experienced problems?
    - I appreciate any feedback!!! Thanks again!

    They are asking 18,871.

Options include cold weather package, homelink system, towing package, moonroof, Anti-Theft Pkg, Front Seat Dual Zone Climate Control, and Rear Air Conditioning. I would appreciate any feedback.

    thanks,

Is this a fair deal? I see some discussions that you can get a limited for $30000. Am I overpaying with this deal in Illinois?

    Sports, 4x4
LA, QF, PN, TO, SR, mat and net for $31950 plus sales tax.

I don't need all the bells and whistle but mrs. needs leather and this is the first offer I got.
  • jik1jik1 Member Posts: 1
I went to a dealer yesterday and they offered $31000 for 2009 highlander 2WD V6 Base. I thought that doesn't make sense. what's the right price for it?

I thought of buying 2009 highlander sport 2WD v6 w/ navigation sys. and leather seat. How much is right the price? Im thinking around $29000.
  • aviddiver_heraviddiver_her Member Posts: 8
I am not an expert on auto pricing but based on my recent purchase experience here is my opinion.

Navigation and leather seats are higher end options. It is unlikely you will find one with those and not other options already added. Several options are tied to packages where you have to get other options just to get the one option you want. Based on the MRSP prices for Sport V6 the starting MRSP is $30,0000. Add navigation $2500 and leather seats $1840 and you are up to $34,370 MRSP. There will likely be a destination charge and several other options already on the car. In California there is also a mandatory emissions package, I don't know what other states might charge. The dealer had to pay for all of the options on the car so even if you don't want them they will charge you for them. Take a look at the example of prices for some common options in my post #3788 a couple of pages back. Find out what all of the options are on the car you are looking at buying and look at the total MRSP. In today's market you should be able to get that down a few thousand dollars. We paid $400 above invoice which I think is reasonable and that was around $4500 below MRSP.

The price is even more complicated than we sometimes think. We were looking a two different cars with pretty much the same options but one was about $1000 more (based on invoice price +$400) Apparently the invoice was higher on one because one of the two cars was purchased by the dealer when Toyota was offering the dealers a bonus on purchased and the other car did not have that bonus.

So, the bottom line is each car price is going to be a little different. It is not really possible to tell what price is good for the car without knowing a lot of detail about the exact car you are considering and any mandatory state requirements.

    Hi all!

I am in the market for an 08 Highlander. It appears that I missed the end of the year specials. I am looking to spend NO MORE than $24K for a vehicle.

One of the local dealers has a Toyota certified ’08 Highlander with the following options:

    Blizzard Pearl
    7 year/100K warranty
    4X2 4-Cylinder
    28,000 miles
    Roof Rails
Light control Package (Daytime and auto off lights)
Cold Weather Package (heated sideviews and windshield de-icers)
    Floor/Cargo Mats

KBB has this car at 22K. The dealer wants 21.9K.

What do you think is a realistic price? I am thinking of offering 19K. I’m pre-approved, have a blank check and ready to buy something soon. No trade-in.

Considering the deals that are out there, is it better to try for a 09?

    Thanks a bunch!
  • greytautumngreytautumn Member Posts: 38
Just curious- what city? Here in suburban Boston asking prices before negotiations are in the 24k range. Ravs are 22k for similar vehicles. (hence I'm looking at highlanders now).

I'd say that's a great deal based on what I'm seeing here.

    TIA

    Kansas City

I was a little concerned with the mileage (30K). I didn't think it was bad, but looking at the fabulous deals that everyone got on the base 2WD at the beginning of the year...I am taking off a bit for that :)
  • jpettibonejpettibone Member Posts: 51
Price seems ok if you value the extended warranty, otherwise a bit high. We just paid $24750 for new 09 Base 4 cyl w/ same package plus 3rd row seat, 6 disk changer, & power drivers seat, and minus the light control package and blizzard pearl. I felt like we could have gotten another $500 off if we were a bit tougher, but this was a transfer and they did not charge for it. My initial quote on the car was 26,100 from the dealer down the street, and we ran from that one.

Are you sure it's 4 cyl? '08s only have the V6.

We were looking at the RAV4, but with these prices, the base highlander made more sense.
  • onebear99onebear99 Member Posts: 1
I am going to meet this dealer tomorrow. How much would you think 09 Highlander sport 2WD with leather seat and EVP5 options ??

I checked TMV price and it says 29,594.00 (before 1,000.00 rebate)
I want this car so bad, but I can't afford over 28k.
Is there anybody get it lower than that?
    Please Help!!!!
