Dealt with 3 local dealers over the phone, gave them my offer, which I based on Car Cost Canada pricing. One dealer accepted my offer and to get them to close the deal, they threw in the cargo tray and body side moldings at 20% off. The other two came in a few hundred more. Time from the call to the first dealer, to the call back from the dealer stating they accepted my offer: 30 minutes. They faxed contract later in the morning, I checked and signed and sent back.
I began using this method back in 1999 based on buying tips I found here on Edmunds, and have never looked back. Avoid all the pressure tactics and you can have several dealers on the go at the same time.
Seems very good deal, where did you get this car? I'm looking for same model HL base. Could you give me detail about the dealer?
Thanks
I'm in Boston, the dealership works for me, could you send me the sales person detail information to my email likeping@yahoo.com?
Thanks in advance.
I am sorry about your experience. I went to Boch Toyota in Norwood before closing my deal with Woburn Toyota. I didn't like the atmosphere and tactics at Boch at all. They lured us in with the impression of they were ready to make a deal, then refused to negotiate once we were there. All their 'matching or beating competitors' price' is merely a marketing ploy.
I bargained at two other places for a 2009 base but both of them held firm at 27500. So when Boch offered me a 2008 with a $2000 higher msrp, I thought I got a good deal at 26300! Funny how Boch has this reputation among people I know as a 'low cost volume seller'. What BS!
Isn't there a $3000 to $3500 rebate on the 08's? If so then these dealers would be offering about the same deal.
I've heard similar stuff re: Boch. Thanks for the help.

Has roof rails, daytime running lights and mats. Payed $22K plus
5% tax, $295 doc and $80 for tags for a total of $23.4K Thanks to all
previous posts for your help with this negotiation.
I am really interested in 2008 HH Base and I have a few questions:
1. From my research, the HH Base invoice for 2008 was $30, 780. Even with the current $3000 rebate, that comes down to $27, 780. I saw some people are getting these cars for $25, 500. Is this really possible? Over 2K under invoice. That would be great!
2. I'd be very happy with base model, but I do want leather seats. Is it possible to have leather seats installed in the base model? I saw somewhere on this forum that its around $1300 extra. If yes, should I negotiate the car first and then have seats installed post purchase?
3. I am in so cal. Any dealer recommendations?
Thanks guys!

Recall Date:
APR 18, 2008
Model Affected:
2008 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER
Summary:
TOYOTA IS RECALLING 90,189 MY 2008 HIGHLANDER AND HIGHLANDER HYBRID PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A THIRD ROW SEAT. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION." THE NON-DRIVER DESIGNATED SEATING POSITIONS (DSP) ON THESE VEHICLES IS EQUIPPED WITH SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES THAT HAVE A FEATURE THAT CONVERTS THE RETRACTOR FROM AN EMERGENCY LOCKING RETRACTOR (ELR) TO AN AUTOMATIC LOCKING RETRACTOR (ALR). THE BELTS CONVERT TO THE ALR MODE AFTER THE WEBBING HAS BEEN FULLY WITHDRAWN FROM THE RETRACTOR. THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED SO THAT AS THE BELT IS RELEASED INTO THE RETRACTOR, THE SYSTEM REMAINS IN THE ALR MODE SO THAT A CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (CRS) CAN BE TIGHTLY SECURED.
Consequence:
HOWEVER, FOR THE TWO THIRD ROW DSP'S ON THESE VEHICLES, THE ALR MODE DEACTIVATES BEFORE THE WEBBING IS FULLY RETRACTED, SO THAT IT WILL NOT LOCK WHEN CERTAIN REAR-FACING CRS'S THAT HAVE A SHORT SEAT BELT ROUTING PATH ARE INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS CAN ALLOW THE SEAT BELT WEBBING TO SPOOL OUT DURING NORMAL DRIVING MANEUVERS, WHICH COULD AFFECT THE STABILITY OF A CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLED AT THOSE SEATING POSITIONS. AS SUCH, THIS COULD DISCOURAGE THE USE OF A CHILD RESTRAINT AND IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE CHILD MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY PROTECTED POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURY.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEWLY DESIGNED SEAT BELT COMPONENT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
Potential Units Affected:
90189

Toyota halts 2008 Highlander sales as part of recall
by Dan Roth on May 3rd 2008 at 10:33AM
Slightly more than 90,000 Toyota Highlanders are being recalled for a seatbelt problem in the third row. The recalled crossovers are all 2008 models built between May of 2007 and March of this year. The stock belts could prevent secure mounting of a rear-facing child seat in the third row, and dealers will install a redesigned part on affected Highlanders. The problem with the third row belts hasn't spawned any complaints or injuries, and owners will be notified starting in June. Still, Toyota has put the brakes on Highlander sales until current stock is retrofitted and assembly lines are resupplied with the new part.
MSRP is 46,524. We got white, which was to us the best of a less than stellar color palette. It has NAV, Front and rear Auto Climate Control, Moonroof, Carpet mats & Cross bars, in addition to the special color.
Price paid was $39,350, plus Tax & Lic.
They claim less than inv., even with $2,000 from Toyota, but who knows?
Had to be close.
We are happy with the car and got 26.6 mpg on a recent 330 mile trip to the mountains. We own two Prius and love them.
The dogs are happy to have a roomy back seat and smooth ride.
Where is this inctive listed on toyota, the dealer didnot tell.
The dealer offered 10% off MSRP
Thanks, nt
I am trying to buy a used 2008 Highlander with around 20,000 miles in Dallas. What would be a good price for a base model. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Richardson also have some used ones , i saw in lot duing my visit for new limited edition.
thx
Vandergriff does not have any stock they just advertise that they have a lot of inventory. I would advice people not to go there at all, its a waste of time.
For the most part Toyota has never jumped big time into the large rebate / give vehicles away game that the Big3 have played. It's why they are simply sick right now while the others are on their deathbed. As one who purchases new Toyota's they are doing their part to make my resale as high as possible by keeping ths prices on their offerings stable.
I enjoyed huge discounts on my new Expedition, but now the resale is horrible.
Reason being is that, at least for Cda, Toyota began cutting production before x-mas in anticipation of low sales. Most dealers (about 6 in total) in my area don't have any HLs on their lots....I had to order mine and it will be about 7-8 wks before it arrives from Japan at the end of this month. That said, I was able to negotiate a price of approx 3% over invoice plus some accessories, which is pretty good for up here.
I am about to close a deal on '08 Highlandar Hybrid with OTD $34100, what do you think about this price.
It has the options Tonneau cover, Popular package (3rd row seat, 19" 10-spoke wheels, rear spoiler with LED stop lamp, Puddle lamps, leather steering wheels and shift knob, 2nd row personal reading lamps, 8-way power driver seat, roof rails, and cargo arear 2nd row one-touch fold down flat levers), front dual climate control, carpet mats and cargo mat.
thanks
Kris
The invoice on this '08 HH is $34,476, as you know they have $3000 incentive from Toyota.
