The rocker panel ground effects appear to be the Vogue-tyre add-on's. According to the people at clubcts, they're part of a package that includes wheels and tires. Of course that was a quote from a Cadillac dealer. I don't know what Vogue Tyre would say if you wanted to purchase the ground effects pieces alone.

    check it out at:

    http://www.vogue-tyre.com/index-whatsnew.html

    bingoman -

I thought it was you. I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your grill. Since our cars are twins, I'd hate to be the spoiler.

fjk - Knew that. It's just harder add all the details since I'm a two finger typer and my brain fluid is at 7000 miles. Just kidding. The Caddy info guys have a detailed explanation of how it works and it's accuracy. It's amazing.

sevenfeet0 - I should have thought of changing the initial oil early, but I've been checking it every week (never did that on any other car) and it's been really clean. I just started getting some color about a week ago. While the STS takes about two quarts between changes, the CTS just doesn't seem to burn any oil.

Yeah, almost looks like there is a badge that says "Vogue" behind the front tire.

The spoiler is also very tastefully done. I am not a fan of them because I feel they spoil the original designers intent, but I understand that they help people shorter in stature see the back of the car.

This spoiler completely conforms with the angular lines of the trunk. Looks good.

I forgot to mention this, but I saw a fully modified CTS "Vogue VTXi" driving by near my house a few weeks ago. It was complete with the "VTXi" badging in place of CTS. It looke really nice. It was the copper sunburst color.

I've been wondering myself if XM radio has become available on the CTS. All other Cadillac models now offer it(with a much smaller and less obtrusive antenna than was used in 02) and even the lowly Chevy Cavalier offers it. I have an aftermarket XM system in my Intrigue and LOVE it. For anyone who enjoys a variety of music and spends alot of time on the road, XM is a must. My problem with the CTS is where would I put the receiver if I have to aftermarket. My Intrigue has a small cubby hole at the base of the dash just forward of the console and below the climate controls, but the CTS does not have a space like this. Congratulations on the car and I hope you enjoy it.
  • oldsman01oldsman01 Member Posts: 1,203
Is one thing that I have become very fond of with my Intrigue. As b4z can attest, the 0-60 times on these cars isn't overly impressive, but the high end passing power can almost seem lethal. Get the 3.5 above 3500 rpm and it's almost like a turbo charger is kicking in. The CTSs that I have test driven seemed pretty responsive, but I wasn't flooring the gas for a quick move at 70 mph either.

From a merchandising viewpoint, it's interesting (to me, anyway) that there is no badging that indicates whether a CTS is a Lux or LuxSport model. Usually auto manufacturers put all kinds of markings and names on their "jazzed up" cars to differentiate them from the base models. Even the STS is identified so everyone knows it's not an SLS, or whatever it's called, for example. I think it's classy that Caddy didn't do so, but I'm surprised.

On another front, I just got a new toy: an aftermarket "talking" GPS. It knows where everything is, and leads you there. Having a ball with it. Wife says: "Waddaya need that thing for? You have OnStar." I answer: "Need? Why do I have to need something in order to enjoy it?" I have trips to L.A., Toronto and Florida coming up and, being portable, I can take it with me and use it in my rental cars. And I will probably drive to Toronto (from Chicago) just to give the CTS some exercise. I had thought there would be an Automobile GPS forum here, but can't find one.

You mean like this: RPO B4Z = IROC-Z Camaro.

Sorry couldn't resist the opportunity to toot my own login name.

Kind of like Buick still uses the Custom and Limited monikers on some of their models. Remember Olds had Brougham, LS, Holiday, etc. I personally like the way Cadillac does not add labels to each model. I would like to see them stick with names over alpha tags though.

I havent seen any CTS's with coach roofs and I hope nobody else has
  • bravedavebravedave Member Posts: 100
Any dealer who does such a thing should have their franchise revoked.

There is a reason why most premium luxury cars avoid the automotive costume jewelry.
  • bingomanbingoman Member Posts: 373
Dave, I don't know what part of the world you are in but it is certainly not Southern California. There are more imitation Rolls Royce grills here than there are genuine RR cars. After market 'tyres' are everywhere. Coach roofs and faux convertible roofs are a common sight. Some might even consider my body color painted grill costume jewelry. And what about the wings, air dams and rocker panels sported by every wanabee hot rodder?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you think is ugly may appear beautiful to the owner. While I might agree with you that most 'improvements' to the designers original plan are not really improvements at all, to suggest that dealers should not satisfy the desires of their customers is unwarranted censorship, and besides I prefer my dealer to make his profits off someone else. (lol)

    Image.

You get a car going down the street with a fake coach roof - or a lawnmower-handle wing - and it says something about the type of person who buys that model of car.

Others who might be considering a car in that class will look at that car and say "Do I see myself being associated with people who'd drive something like that?"

And if the answer is "No" then the original manufacturer of that vehicle just lost a potential customer.
  • bravedavebravedave Member Posts: 100
A while back, I saw a Lexus LS400 (the original version) in which someone had affixed a Landau roof. I seriously doubt it was installed at a Lexus dealership. In fact, I am sure all the other Lexi will laugh at it and call it names. They probably will not let it play any reindeer games.

I think I have been listening to too much Christmas muzak...

In any case, I wish all of you a safe & happy Christmas !
  • bingomanbingoman Member Posts: 373
But if the answer is yes the manufacturer may have just acquired a new customer.

In any case, who is to be the grand censor who decides what is and what is not an improvement of the original design?

    And to all HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

As usual, you're right on target. Young people, a market segment that Caddillac wants really bad, like cars that express their individuality. Some older folks do too.

While I wouldn't want a "Carriage roof", "Rolls Grill" or "Big Wing" on our CTS, I understand why some dealers sell after market "add-ons". If it keeps their customers happy, or adds to their customer base, it's OK.

The alternative is.... young people will buy a Honda and add the same "stuff' along with tiny wheels and big decals on the windows. They're just expressing themselves and having fun. Who am I to judge what's right or "AC" (Automotively Correct).

Anyway, I hope you all have a Happy Holiday and a Healthy, Happy New Year.

Sorry for my slow response; I have been out of town.

Bruno, the M crashed around worker station two or so, maybe three-fourths of the way down the front straight. It was during the first fun run. From the damage on the car, it looked like he drove it straight into the light pole, as most of the damage was in front. The windshield was shattered, and the hood was pushed up. It took about eight guys to push the car onto a trailer, so it wasn't going anywhere.

rickhw5, I drove with the tires at 31 psi cold this time, so maybe 35 psi warm. I felt much better handling, the tires stcuk better, and it felt more accurate. I didn't chalk my tires (I will next time), but it didn't feel like I was getting any sidewall rollover. The scuff marks on the tires seem to bear this out. Looks like pmdriver2 was right. :)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
  • oldsman01oldsman01 Member Posts: 1,203
Merry Christmas to all here. If anyone is thinking of any last minute Christmas gifts, a Blue Onyx CTS would be nice:) Speaking of cars with carriage tops, I haven't seen any CTSs with them, but at the mall earlier today I saw a beautiful Diamond White DTS with a camel color top. I just wanted to go up to the owner as he got out of the car and tell him how he just ruined an otherwise great looking car. Two totally different owner groups I know, but I lump what he had done to his Caddy in the same mess as these kids who put all the crap add-ons and decals on their Hondas and Toyotas.

One of my favorite cars on the road today is the CTS, of which I'd get in these three colors:

    1. Black

    2. Copper

    3. White Diamond

I too would like one for Christmas if anyone is in the giving mood....

But anyway, there are a few CTS around here within a 5 mile area. Actually, three that I know of. The first is a Diamond White fully loaded Luxury Sport driven by a couple in their late 70's, early 80's. Let's just say they often drive quite slow and are more the Deville type. I can't even begin to imagine how they ended up with a sport-suspension equipped CTS?! The next is an awesome loaded black on black Lux-Sport driven by a lady in her 30's. And the last, is the one that makes me sad. It's a White Diamond Luxury model with polished wheels and a sunroof, but the older lady who drives it had a matching neutral colored Landau Roof installed. Really, it's not horrifying, well, yes it is! Even my mother likes the car when we see it, but absolutely hates the roof.

I guess this is the same kind of person that would by a Chrysler 300M and put a roof on it. Believe me, I've been unfortunate enough to see many of those, all driven by folks of the older generation...

The Cadillac CTS site lists the following colors:

Sterling (not available after Dec. '02), Blue Onyx, Sable Black, Cashmere, Garnet Red, Copper Sunburst, White Diamond, Light Platinum (available after Dec. '02)

The current brochure I picked up the other day while waiting for service shows both silver colors, but what I had heard about the replacement is apparently true (and makes sense since the two silvers are so close; the platinum is slightly darker, to my eye).

While I don't have a CTS at this time, I have had caddys for over 40 years. To this end I am waiting for a little more HP,more wooden dash, and hopefully a electric lumbar seat. Will follow all comments here and also all have a happy holiday.

... and congrats to all news owners and to necros on your successful run. Link below to San Francisco Region GS class, lastest event results.

    http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results/2002/Slush/round6.html#gs

I found out about this event too late, but will definitely check out signing up in the new year. Activity is basically at a halt with no events scheduled until SuperBowl weekend.

In the meantime, everybody keep those links a comin'. That is one sharp looking blue O at the clubcts site (see http://webhome.idirect.com/~rsm1/main.htm for goodies mfn.). Interesting treatment with the submarine tower brace and looks like they figured a way to get a K&N going. Might have to write 'em 'bout that. I'm going to be good and fight the temptation to tinker until at least a couple of stock class runs.

    Drive safe and enjoy!

Have any of you seriously considered purchasing an ES300 while you were shopping, and what made you opt for the CTS instead?

I'd be curious to know since I'm considering one of these two cars.

Thanks and happy holidays to all!

i drove the cts again, one nice car. at 52 years old it seems to keep me young. my vette was fun but this is nice. the car is black with sun roof, wheels, sport package and bose. thank every one with their input. you all have a very merry Christmas and happy new year.

A DeVille vs an ES300, but not a CTS.

Even the base CTS is a real sports sedan, while the ES300 is a gussied up Camry appliance... and a dreadful looking one at that!

I have been reading this board for quite some time. It seems like the CTS doesn't have any problems that keep coming up. I am planning to buy a new car this Spring (don't want to drive it this winter) and am narrowing it down to the CTS and the Infiniti G35. Has anyone compared these two cars. Right now I have a Passat GLX. I am so sick of the squeaks and rattles, especially when it's cold, that a solid car without the common VW "noises" is a priority. The CTS and Infinity seem to be two of the more interesting newer design sport sedans.
  • oldsman01oldsman01 Member Posts: 1,203
Interesting that your Passat has interior rattles as some in the auto press seem to think VW sets the standard for interiors. Both the G35 and the CTS should bring you lots of driving pleasure. My pick is the CTS, I like it's more bold styling and interior design better.

Sort of a dumb question, but since my test drive was during the day, I did not see the guage display light up. Is it yellow, like LED display for the radio?

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen for my answer :)

  • oldsman01oldsman01 Member Posts: 1,203
The brochure shows the CTS's instrumentation lit up and it is amber and yellow.
  • bingomanbingoman Member Posts: 373
I stopped at my local Cadillac dealer this afternoon to pick up some complimentary tickets for the Los Angeles Auto Show and saw a CTS with a new option package. It's called the California option, and consists of all of the Sport package without the Lux components. It lists for $5,005.00, and is apparently only available from California dealers.

I have black base cts w/auto & 6600mi. Took to dealer after 4th message. They resealed engine oil cooler cover.Does this sound right? We'll see.
They gave me a 03 deville loaner. What a contrast!
Everything is soft & quiet. A nice cruiser but too big. CTS is as big as I want.

You are aware of the free track days at 2nd Creek, right? 12/26 - 12/31. 9 to 5, weather permitting. You have to belong to one of the clubs which make up the Colorado Motorsports Council (the local SCCA chapter is one). I was out there Friday, and I'll probably be there again Sunday or Monday (my wife got me two sets of Schroth 4-points for Xmas - woohoo!). Be warned, there are some *very* fast cars, and some of the drivers are a bit on the cutthroat side, so your mirrors are your friends.

From my earlier post # 1565---------- "The next problem was a coolant leak. Apparently this was a slow leak at first but was getting worse. It took a quart of coolant in less than 1000 miles. The problem was defective cross over pipe seals. The seals and O ring were replaced and no more leak."

This is how my leak was fixed. I now have 5000 mles and no return of the leak.

I believe 'mcgreenx' was the other coolant problem but I never heard how his was resolved.

My Mom went out of town today and left her Onyx Blue CTS at home. I told her I'd stop over and take it to the car wash for her...."just leave the keys on the kitchen table".

Guess who going to play with a CTS ALL DAY tomorrow!!!! Onyx Blue is KILLER on this car, and I am usually not a fan of blue cars.
  • wwhite2wwhite2 Member Posts: 535
CTS looks best in Black or Garnet Red !!
  • oldsman01oldsman01 Member Posts: 1,203
Onyx is my favorite CTS color. I've only seen a couple in that color, but they are sharp. That is what color my CTS will be:) Enjoy "baby sitting" your mom's car.
  • thebugthebug Member Posts: 294
eatin53: Go to tirerack.com, and you can try all the offered colors, and a variety of wheels on the CTS, or any car for that matter
  • eaton53eaton53 Member Posts: 356
Tire Rack's wheel selection is somewhat lame, especially compared to SuperBuyTires.

As for colors, there's nothing like seeing them in person. I like every color I've seen except for white and silver... too plain for this striking car.

And yes, I like Copper Sunburst.
  • tvdirectvdirec Member Posts: 22
And, I believe I'm one of the few on this board who do. In my area of the northeast (Hartford,CT)I have seen only two other CTS's Another cashmere color and a garnet red.
I'm about 20 miles shy of 1,000 on the car. Lovin' every mile I drive.
  • mcgreenxmcgreenx Member Posts: 179
I'm taking it in for service and an oil change next week, at about 6K. Still getting the message at every start after a period of inactivity (overnight or parked all day), but the coolant level only seems down from the line about an inch. I will let you know what happens.
  • 1997montez341997montez34 Member Posts: 202
I had a fun day today tooling around in mom's CTS. The "Bling-Bling" boys at the car wash went nuts for it.

The car handles extremely well, even without the sport package. And the 3.2 definitely has plenty of pull. I would never call the 3.2 overpowered, but it has enough juice to get me into trouble pretty quickly.

Ont thing I couldn't figure out. Maybe a CTS owner can help here. How do you switch from MPH to Km/H and go from the regular odometer to the trip odo? I couldn't find a switch anywhere.
  • bingomanbingoman Member Posts: 373
You do it through the radio console. Read the personalization section in your owners manual.

Well, I know that I must love my wife a whole lot. She let me buy the CTS. She's letting me buy new home theatre components. But payback is...well, you know.

We just moved to Nashville and my wife, always the environmentalist wanted to go for one of the available environment-themed license plates from the zillions of specialty plates the state of Tennessee has to offer.

Did she pick the plate with the brown bear? The deer? Even the ducks? Nope! She chose the one with the pretty grass and the lavendar irises. Keep in mind we own a black on dark pewter CTS, a rather manly-man car and color combo. Now we have pretty flowers on our license plate.

I love my wife. I really do! :)

    HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2003!
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Just like you, sometimes I get left with mom's ride for a day, even if it's not a CTS--a big black Avalanche! I always look forward to these times, and wish it were my own. She loves it, but if buying a car, a pearl white CTS would be her choice--I've asked.

The car wash? Oh, don't make me cry! I hope if you did do this, you at least went touchless, and didn't go through any "soft cloth". I'm a detailer on the side, so I know what a car wash will do to a dark color like Blue Onyx. Just be gentle...

    oops...Oh well, she's only leasing it. :)

Happy New Year. I'm off to get happy. Hopw you all have a safe one.

These questions are for any of the mechanic types out there. What is the relationship between HP and torque? What would be considered a decent relationship between the two?
