bingoman -
I thought it was you. I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your grill. Since our cars are twins, I'd hate to be the spoiler.
fjk - Knew that. It's just harder add all the details since I'm a two finger typer and my brain fluid is at 7000 miles. Just kidding. The Caddy info guys have a detailed explanation of how it works and it's accuracy. It's amazing.
sevenfeet0 - I should have thought of changing the initial oil early, but I've been checking it every week (never did that on any other car) and it's been really clean. I just started getting some color about a week ago. While the STS takes about two quarts between changes, the CTS just doesn't seem to burn any oil.

The spoiler is also very tastefully done. I am not a fan of them because I feel they spoil the original designers intent, but I understand that they help people shorter in stature see the back of the car.
This spoiler completely conforms with the angular lines of the trunk. Looks good.
On another front, I just got a new toy: an aftermarket "talking" GPS. It knows where everything is, and leads you there. Having a ball with it. Wife says: "Waddaya need that thing for? You have OnStar." I answer: "Need? Why do I have to need something in order to enjoy it?" I have trips to L.A., Toronto and Florida coming up and, being portable, I can take it with me and use it in my rental cars. And I will probably drive to Toronto (from Chicago) just to give the CTS some exercise. I had thought there would be an Automobile GPS forum here, but can't find one.
Sorry couldn't resist the opportunity to toot my own login name.
There is a reason why most premium luxury cars avoid the automotive costume jewelry.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you think is ugly may appear beautiful to the owner. While I might agree with you that most 'improvements' to the designers original plan are not really improvements at all, to suggest that dealers should not satisfy the desires of their customers is unwarranted censorship, and besides I prefer my dealer to make his profits off someone else. (lol)
You get a car going down the street with a fake coach roof - or a lawnmower-handle wing - and it says something about the type of person who buys that model of car.
Others who might be considering a car in that class will look at that car and say "Do I see myself being associated with people who'd drive something like that?"
And if the answer is "No" then the original manufacturer of that vehicle just lost a potential customer.
I think I have been listening to too much Christmas muzak...
In any case, I wish all of you a safe & happy Christmas !
In any case, who is to be the grand censor who decides what is and what is not an improvement of the original design?
And to all HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
While I wouldn't want a "Carriage roof", "Rolls Grill" or "Big Wing" on our CTS, I understand why some dealers sell after market "add-ons". If it keeps their customers happy, or adds to their customer base, it's OK.
The alternative is.... young people will buy a Honda and add the same "stuff' along with tiny wheels and big decals on the windows. They're just expressing themselves and having fun. Who am I to judge what's right or "AC" (Automotively Correct).
Anyway, I hope you all have a Happy Holiday and a Healthy, Happy New Year.

Bruno, the M crashed around worker station two or so, maybe three-fourths of the way down the front straight. It was during the first fun run. From the damage on the car, it looked like he drove it straight into the light pole, as most of the damage was in front. The windshield was shattered, and the hood was pushed up. It took about eight guys to push the car onto a trailer, so it wasn't going anywhere.
rickhw5, I drove with the tires at 31 psi cold this time, so maybe 35 psi warm. I felt much better handling, the tires stcuk better, and it felt more accurate. I didn't chalk my tires (I will next time), but it didn't feel like I was getting any sidewall rollover. The scuff marks on the tires seem to bear this out. Looks like pmdriver2 was right.
1. Black
2. Copper
3. White Diamond
I too would like one for Christmas if anyone is in the giving mood....
But anyway, there are a few CTS around here within a 5 mile area. Actually, three that I know of. The first is a Diamond White fully loaded Luxury Sport driven by a couple in their late 70's, early 80's. Let's just say they often drive quite slow and are more the Deville type. I can't even begin to imagine how they ended up with a sport-suspension equipped CTS?! The next is an awesome loaded black on black Lux-Sport driven by a lady in her 30's. And the last, is the one that makes me sad. It's a White Diamond Luxury model with polished wheels and a sunroof, but the older lady who drives it had a matching neutral colored Landau Roof installed. Really, it's not horrifying, well, yes it is! Even my mother likes the car when we see it, but absolutely hates the roof.
I guess this is the same kind of person that would by a Chrysler 300M and put a roof on it. Believe me, I've been unfortunate enough to see many of those, all driven by folks of the older generation...
Sterling (not available after Dec. '02), Blue Onyx, Sable Black, Cashmere, Garnet Red, Copper Sunburst, White Diamond, Light Platinum (available after Dec. '02)
The current brochure I picked up the other day while waiting for service shows both silver colors, but what I had heard about the replacement is apparently true (and makes sense since the two silvers are so close; the platinum is slightly darker, to my eye).

I found out about this event too late, but will definitely check out signing up in the new year. Activity is basically at a halt with no events scheduled until SuperBowl weekend.
In the meantime, everybody keep those links a comin'. That is one sharp looking blue O at the clubcts site (see http://webhome.idirect.com/~rsm1/main.htm for goodies mfn.). Interesting treatment with the submarine tower brace and looks like they figured a way to get a K&N going. Might have to write 'em 'bout that. I'm going to be good and fight the temptation to tinker until at least a couple of stock class runs.
Drive safe and enjoy!
I'd be curious to know since I'm considering one of these two cars.
Thanks and happy holidays to all!
Even the base CTS is a real sports sedan, while the ES300 is a gussied up Camry appliance... and a dreadful looking one at that!

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen for my answer
They gave me a 03 deville loaner. What a contrast!
Everything is soft & quiet. A nice cruiser but too big. CTS is as big as I want.
This is how my leak was fixed. I now have 5000 mles and no return of the leak.
I believe 'mcgreenx' was the other coolant problem but I never heard how his was resolved.
Guess who going to play with a CTS ALL DAY tomorrow!!!! Onyx Blue is KILLER on this car, and I am usually not a fan of blue cars.
As for colors, there's nothing like seeing them in person. I like every color I've seen except for white and silver... too plain for this striking car.
And yes, I like Copper Sunburst.
I'm about 20 miles shy of 1,000 on the car. Lovin' every mile I drive.
The car handles extremely well, even without the sport package. And the 3.2 definitely has plenty of pull. I would never call the 3.2 overpowered, but it has enough juice to get me into trouble pretty quickly.
Ont thing I couldn't figure out. Maybe a CTS owner can help here. How do you switch from MPH to Km/H and go from the regular odometer to the trip odo? I couldn't find a switch anywhere.
We just moved to Nashville and my wife, always the environmentalist wanted to go for one of the available environment-themed license plates from the zillions of specialty plates the state of Tennessee has to offer.
Did she pick the plate with the brown bear? The deer? Even the ducks? Nope! She chose the one with the pretty grass and the lavendar irises. Keep in mind we own a black on dark pewter CTS, a rather manly-man car and color combo. Now we have pretty flowers on our license plate.
I love my wife. I really do!
The car wash? Oh, don't make me cry! I hope if you did do this, you at least went touchless, and didn't go through any "soft cloth". I'm a detailer on the side, so I know what a car wash will do to a dark color like Blue Onyx. Just be gentle...
Happy New Year. I'm off to get happy. Hopw you all have a safe one.
