Haven't heard of XM being available, but it makes total sense with all the other makers making it available on their models. I'm pretty sure it will be at some point.

    RE 52

No XM on Azera oem radio.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I have not seen a posting by any 07 Azera owner who has mentioned having or being offered an XM radio.
    Has anyone heard otherwise?
I'm still attempting to determine if the 06 and the 07 Azeras use the same radio, and who is the manufacturer of the head unit. So far,no glory.

After waiting a couple of weeks, my dealer called yesterday and told me that the back ordered `07 steering wheel control unit came in. I picked it up last night and, thanks to Technishawn's instructions, it took me 15-20 minutes to do the install this morning. The inability to scan between stations had been my biggest complaint about my `06 Limited/Ultimate , so now I'm a very happy camper.
Thanks again to Technishawn for the easy to follow replacement instructions.

I have a '07 Azera limited with ultimate package. As far as I can tell it does NOT have a speed sensing volume control, if it does I have no idea how to make it work.
  • gamlegedgamleged Member Posts: 442
I think I'll just glue a fake XM antenna up on top and be done with it... :shades:
  • sundevilssundevils Member Posts: 100
I have the 06 Azera Limited w/ Ultimate. I have seen zero evidence that there is volume control based on speed or interior noise. The volume in my Azera has never automatically adjusted.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
I ordered a fake shark fin antenna (like the ones on BMW's) on E-Bay for $6.99. Looks GREAT!!!

Cost me a buck more, but.. me too!... ;)

If you've registered at the Hyundai Master Service site:

    http://www.hmaservice.com/authenticator/login?returnAddress=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hma- service.com%3A80%2Fwebtech

... you'll find, after clicking on the "on-line training" that there's an on-line course entitled "XM Satellite Radio Web Course" and the second page of that says "2007 Models with XM Satellite Radio Systems as standard equipment."

    I can say no more...

    Well, I don't know anymore!...

Can you advise me on how to shift the T-40 torx fasteners to get started on this job? Do you have a T-40 screwdriver or a bit/extension bar which fits back there? The fasteners on my steering wheel are very tight and I can't shift them.

I decided to take a look at the existing part and how it it removed before going ahead and ordering the new part. Boy am I glad I tried this because I would feel really foolish right now if I had already paid for the part.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE:63
Although the torx fasteners are tight, I simply put a vise grip wrench on the screw driver, gave it a little more pressure and they popped and easily unscrewed. I had the same apprehension at first. The entire procedure of changing the switch took less than 10 minutes. Unpluging of the airbag is unnecessary, simply lift and move to side or down. The switch is held in place by phillips head screws.
Just unplug wire from old switch and replace in new one.
  • tuebrooktuebrook Member Posts: 10
Thanks, I'll give that a try. I do not have a T-40 screwdriver because I could not find one to buy. So the screwdriver I am using is a T-30 and that may be part of my problem too. Did you use the correctly sized T-40 screwdriver or did you manage with a smaller one?
  • plwilliamsplwilliams Member Posts: 96
tuebrook, you need a T40 screwdriver. A T30 won't work. I was able to break loose the screw by hand, but it was pretty tight. The hardest part for me was getting the T40 at the right angle to get into the screw, but if you look at the screw you'll have no problem. It really was a 'piece of cake' to make the change. Go for it!!

BTW, I had to order a T40 since neither of the big box stores we have (Home Depot or Lowes) carried them in stock.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE 65
I used a T-40. It is a pretty hefty screw driver, but I still needed the vise grip.
Most hardware type or auto supply stores carry a cheap T handle set that would probably work.

Here's a couple pics of my new stereo that replaced the factory unit. The sound quality of the factory was nice, but there's a significant upgrade in sound with the new stereo. It was a snap to install (with the right wire harness) and the only modification I had to make to the dash kit was to cut the cross piece across the top of it because it bowed down. The kit came with all instructions you would need to take the factory radio out and put the new one in. If I recall correctly...the dash kit I used was made by Metra.

    Hi allmet33-

Thanx for posting the pics. The new unit looks gter than I would have expected. You mentioned that the new head unit provided a significant upgrade over the stock unit. I'm assuming you had the 10 speaker 315 watt Infinity stereo that comes with either the Premium or Ultimate packaged cars to begin with. Being someone who appreciates good sound, what are the specific improvements you've noticed.

EDITED / ADDED - Now that I saw all the pictures, I see that you've updated quite a bit more than just the head unit, so asking what improvements you noticed is a bit irrelevant for me, as i don't know if I'll be sinking as much into any stereo upgrade. No doubt it's absolutely awesome. Hope it's everything you expected..and more.
Thanx again for sharing all the photos.
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Yes, I did have the Infinity sound system which actually sounded pretty good as factory systems go. However...I'm never one to leave well enough alone. I want more. The difference is just better sound imagining because you have greater control over the sound shaping of the music. I have to admit, I have replaced the door speakers (Infinity Kappa Series), but the center channel, tweeters and sub are still factory. The music is much more precise, clear, brighter and clean. I will be adding a sub of my own in the trunk of the car and cutting off the whole rear end (rear doors and factory sub) at about 80 Hz (hi pass). The sub will be crossed off at 80 Hz (lo pass).

I've had my trials and tribulations in this endeavor and I've learned a lot about this car. However, I see the light at the end of the tunnel now. You can check my carspace page to see the upgrades I've done.

Here's how it looks at night. Much better flow now that the radio seems to match the gauges...

There a very big difference between not knowing when to leave well enough alone and very tasteful customization of one's car. You clearly have a good eye to make your Azera stand out! The wheels, head unit, custom tray for the sub, shark fin all look great! I promised the wife that I wouldn't trick the Azera out like prior cars I've had..then your car get's me thinking!

The one thing I am waiting for is chrome wheel well trim. I know one vendor has the flexible plastic ones that glue on with 3M double sided tape, I've seen them on a gold/beige Azera on anotherforum and they look pretty good....but I'll wait for the metal ones. Like you mine's black with beige. A little more chrome on the sides will do it for me....and maybe the side marker lights. OK, OK - You're right,,some 18" wheels will have to be added too!

Thanx for sharing all the photos.

    Have a Great Holiday!
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Theblackhole...thank you very much. It's been tough because the one thing I didn't want to do was make it look gaudy. I just wanted to do a few things that would set it off and individualize it, but...not make it over-the-top.

I have a buddy that uses photo shop and when I started sending him different rims that he could put on it to show me how it would look...I definitely had to go Euro with it. The only chrome I wanted to add to the sides was the wheels as I was never a fan of the chromed wheel well trim...especially when it starts becoming dull and peeling.

Only exterior things I have left to do is a new grill and the rear window spoiler shade (www.koreanautoimports.com).

I had considered 18's at first, but the minor change in the tire size didn't seem enough for me to spend that kind of money, 19's would have meant spending more money than I wanted as it's hard to find 19's and the tires are expensive. 20's were more commonplace and I had more options to choose from, so that's what I went with. The ride hasn't suffered much at all with the low profile tires. If anything, it's increased the stability in cornering, curves and handling.

    Good luck with yours!

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Spent part of Christmas with my wife's family. One of her cousins has a new BMW Z4 DINAN. Unfortunately, here on Long Island potholes are encountered from time-to-time. He already needs 2 new rims. Couple this, with your thoughts on the 18's, 19's and/or 20's and I think I'll stay with stock size rims/tires for my Azera.

As far as the wheel well trim, I'm waiting for a metal/ chrome or stainless steel set to become available rather than go for the flexible plastic trim for the same reasons you mention.

Some folks like their cars way over the top. Like you, when I've added things to my cars, it's usually just a few little touches to have it stand out a little from pure factory stock look.

Best Wishes For The New Year!
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...the good roads of NY, yes, I know them fairly well. However, the roads down here in DC aren't much better. Granted, I do slow down more than I usually would with regular sized wheels and tires, but even when I've encountered the occaisional unseen pothole, I haven't had any problems. I do understand your concern though. If you're going to spend the money to upgrade your wheels, then make it worth it. I would shoot for the 19's as you will be able to put a 45 series tire on there which is ample "cushioning". One thing you have to consider to is the suspension on the Azera which has more give than the BMW's sport tuned suspension.

I believe the wheel well trim on the Korean Auto Imports site are the chrome ones you're looking for.

I certainly wish you all the best in your endeavor.

May your New Year be happy, safe, prosperous and blessed!!!

Doesn't switching from factory-installed 17" wheels and going to 18" to 20" wheels (even with "flatter-depth" tires) cause any problem with your turning radius (even maybe scrape the inside of the wheel wells) and alter the displayed speedometer/odometer figures?... :confuse:
  • allmet33allmet33 Member Posts: 3,557
Gamleged...yes, going up in size can affect various things such as speedometer readings and maybe turning radius...unless you pick an overall tire size that most closely matches the factory specs.

Below is a link that will tell you what size tire you would need to keep the overall circumference of a different size tire, ie: 18", 19" or 20".

I put 20" rims on my car and the tire size I'm running is 245/35-20 and there is a slight change on my speedo reading. If you input the factory tire size of 235/55-17 as the first tire and then put in 245/35-20...it'll tell you that when the car is doing 65 mph, the actual speed with the 20" tires is just under 64 mph.

I also have not had any issue with the tires rubbing any part of the car when making tight turns, nor has my turning radius suffered.

In short...it's all about keeping the overall circumference as close as you possibly can to the factory spec. The width (the first number in a tire size you can play with a little bit. When I had my '02 Sonata, it came with 205/60-16's and I upgraded to 17's and the tire size was a 225/45-17. The speedo difference was almost -2 mph at 65 mph.

    Hope this helps you some.

    Tire Dimensions Made Easy

P.S. I could try a 255/35-20 which would bring me closer to the factory circumference, but then...I run the risk of the tire being too wide and then I would have issues with the tire rubbing either the fender or inner wheel well on turns.

Well that's a neat computerized adjustment table!...

Has anyone yet been able to determine for sure how Hyundai added extra features to Azera steering wheel control other than changing switch? Is it a different head or just a software change?
  • theblackholetheblackhole Member Posts: 62
Thanx allmet33. An obvious knee-jerk reaction by me. You're absolutely right, the Z4 usspension is no doubt far less forgiving than our Azera's...back to the wheel catalogs I go!

The wheel well trim on the Korean Auto Imports site are the flexible plastic ones that are not finished on the ends and would probably look bad after a few NY winters. I'll just hope someone will make them in chrome or stainless for the Azera soon.

I would appreciate anyone having an 07 Azera with an Infinity sound system asking their local parts department if the 06 and the 07 have the same part number for the radio head. I can't get a part number for the 07 unit.
I'm still atempting to get all of the 07 steering wheel remote features to work on my 06.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
Still no postings about any 07 stereo modifications. Has anyone had the occasion of removing their 07 Infinity head unit?
  • tuebrooktuebrook Member Posts: 10
I finally got round to taking care of this. As others have said it only takes 15 minutes (if that) and it is well worth it. I followed the good advice I was given and purchased a T-40 torx screwdriver to get the job done. No local stores had one and so I found one online.

    Thanks for the help guys.
  • azgrandazgrand Member Posts: 50
I too installed the '07 audio control in my '06 Limited this weekend. Very simple install thanks to the good advice on this forum. Nice being able to change CD tracks without having to take my eyes off the road!

The 07 Azera steering wheel mounted audio switch is now available at Dreamka4u.com
  • chilliwackchilliwack Member Posts: 189
Did you disconnect the battery to perform the steering wheel control modification? I want to install the switch, but do not want to have to re-set everything. Thanks
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 88
I did not disconnect the battery when installing new switch, but if you do, the only thing that requires resetting is the audio presets and sometimes the memory seat buttons.
There is plenty of wire in the airbag harness to carefully lift it out of the way to access the switch.
The entire job took less than 15 minutes.
The torx screws will be tight. You must use some force to loosen them. I put a vice grip plier on the torx screwdriver to "pop" it loose. The rest was easy.
  • grayfoxgrayfox Member Posts: 166
Based on the inputs from all who have made the switch change, I asked Dream4u if they could get one for me and the cost. When they came back with a price of $42, I quickly ordered one. Then they finally updated their website for Azeras. Heads up guys. It pays to ask! I have had great service and prices from them.

    RE: 90

Thanks! I wasn't so smart and paid more.
  • azgrandazgrand Member Posts: 50
I did disconnect the battery just for safety's sake. I had to reset the clock, seat settings, radio presets, and Homelink code for the mirror. I just didn't trust working around a "live" airbag.
  • azgrandazgrand Member Posts: 50
Holy crap! That's about half what I paid from mine from the local dealer.
  • sergio19sergio19 Member Posts: 90
I apologize in advance for asking this silly question but if I were to order this switch...will it work with the factory set radio that comes with the Azera?
    I have a 2006 limited edition.

    Thanks in advance
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 94
Yes! That is the reason for changing the switch. It still will not perform all the functions of the 07, such as selecting presets or changing the discs, It will allow the changing of stations and changing the tracks on a disc plus all of the functions of the old switch.
  • sergio19sergio19 Member Posts: 90
Thank you for the response. I have placed the order and look forward to setting it up!

    Thanks again floridabob1
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE; 96
    Good choice and good luck!
I'm sure that you will find it to be an easy job.
The most difficult part was the initial "pop" of the torx screws. Don't be afraid to give them a little extra force to loosen.
  • hscharg1hscharg1 Member Posts: 6
Being technically challenged to even change my wiperblades...I assume the dealer or my mechanic can do this?
  • azgrandazgrand Member Posts: 50
Well, it doesn't actually allow selecting radio presets or changing discs. Pushing the "up" or "down" buttons will allow you to "seek" to the next radio station or select the next or previous track on a single CD. Still beats having to take you eyes off the road as often.
  • azgrandazgrand Member Posts: 50
I would certainly hope so. If I can do it, anybody can.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 98
If the dealer does it, they will probably charge list price for the switch, which is about $105.00 plus at least one hour of labor.
It might be a good idea to purchase the internet switch and have a friend or local "handyman" assist you with the installation. It is really very straight forward.
  • chilliwackchilliwack Member Posts: 189
Installed the Dream4u steering wheel controls unit today (42. shipped). I was a bit puckered over the airbag as I did not disconnect the battery, but it was pretty easy. Had a bit of trouble with the connector until I realized that I needed to push in the tab on the opposite side. It helps to have someone hang onto the steering wheel center part while you operate. Works perfectly...why didn't they just use this one in the first place??? :confuse:
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE; 102
It is the switch for the 07.
In the 07 the switch also allows you to chose radio presets and change the discs in CD mode.
