We live in Orange County, and my wife's family lives in Bakersfield. Shortly after getting our 2006 Civic GX, I applied to get a PG & E card so that we could refuel in Bakersfield when we visit there. My wife went there on December 10, and fueled there for the first time. She said that there was no price posted on the pump, and that she saw no way to get a receipt. So, we just waited to get the monthly bill to see what the cost was. The bill came today. Including all taxes and fees, it worked out to about $1.856 per gge. Is it typical at other PG &E facilities that they don't post the price on the pump?

I live in Thousand Oaks, there is a pinnacle Station about 4 miles from my house that is charging $2.17 (down from $2.27 when I bought the car). About 4 miles from work, I have a CE station that charges $1.99 (up from $1.89 when I bought the car). Funny stuff this. Getting into it, I am not sure the Phill is worth the money now, but it probably will be in the long run. Having prices regulated by the PUC is probably the biggest advantage to going to the phill.

A few weeks ago I posted that the Anaheim station was open and I got a great fill, well this morning I got a lousy fill and probably will not go there anymore.
The Garden Grove station is just as convienient for me, and I always get a great fill.
It is still a So Cal Gas station, but asks for the same 2 digit training code as the CE stations.

The price is $1.97 in Santa Monica and it is the So Cal yard, but Clean Energy. I did not need a fill as I have a Phil at home. I have used it occasionally when the price is lower and gotten a great fill as compared to when it was a So Cal pump. We now have two company 2006's and two Phils.

Hemet CA 2.194 up 7 cents
Anyone seen the So CA Clean Energy prices yet??
  • londnrlondnr Member Posts: 55
I filled up at Seal Beach CE station yesterday - 2/2/07 and the price was the same as it has been for a while, $1.999
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
Thanks, when I first started driving my NGV the CE stations were a lot more expensive than most local sources.
Since November, it has been the opposite.
  • bank1avpbank1avp Member Posts: 78
Curious about the Cali folks what are you paying for NG from home with PG&E and So Cal Gas. In AZ it's Southwest gas and right now we are paying about $1.00 per Therm.

Right now, fuelmaker is quoting $1.25 per gallon with the Phill at home. $1.95 to $2.25 at stations.

Prices on PG&E pumps were removed way back in 2000 or so. We now have to wait until we receive our bill as well. We have paid a low of $1.15 and a high of $2.74 (last winter, but it has rarely been above $2.00). We are currently at $1.97. During the gasoline spike to over $3.00, we were paying under $1.75 per gge.

We have noticed that Pinnacle and Fleetstar have been up to $.70 cents higher than PG&E and now use them only for emergencies. We don't have any experience with SoCal gas or Trillium.
  • musicmannmusicmann Member Posts: 29
Thanks for the info. I fueled at PG & E in Bakersfield on January 15, 2007. I just got the bill today. Including all taxes and fees, it worked out to $2.062 per gge.

fyi - though a pain in the butt to find, and not convenient when you are at the pump, PG&E does list there CNG prices on their website. generally speaking, i have never seen them be anything but spot on with the other folks, so probably you aren't going to get screwed.

Got fuel last night in Garden Grove 2.149
Still a lot cheaper than gasoline, running about 2.70 in So CAL
  • bank1avpbank1avp Member Posts: 78
Indio was $2.40 but gasoline was $2.90 as of yesterday. Hydrogen was $1.00 per gge.

    Yeh,yeh,yeh with your 73 cents :0)

    Phoenix C.E. airport $1.94
    Washington Schools $2.05
    Trillium Tempe/Scottsdale $2.04

Keep an eye out for a new station in Mesa working on putting a deal together with a few guys to open a CNG station there

CE in Frisco is up to $2.04.

sidenote -- for those of you with 06+ civics, how are you doing MPG-wise? since i bought the car 11k miles ago, i've averaged near 38mpg, and am consistently getting 40mpg now (~250mi per fill-up) and that is in the Bay Area, so somewhere between city and highway driving.
  • dejapoohdejapooh Member Posts: 40
Right now in Los Angeles, CE is at $2.14, but with pump prices well over $3, I am not too worried. I am getting the phill this summer, so that should end my worries since the PUC will be in control of my fuel prices, not Corporate America.

The newer GXs seem to get better mileage than my '99, but I have been getting about 37-38 on my commutes lately.
Also it seems I get better mileage filling from my local source (Hemet-RTA $2.249) than the Moreno Valley CE station.
I did notice the CE stations say min 88% methane, where my local one says min 90%, can this make any difference?
With the road construction in Moreno Valley now, I cant easily get to the station without a lot of stop and go crap, so now doesn't even justify saving the 10 cents difference a gge, which is only about 40 cents per fillup.
Usual fillup is 3.8-4.0 gge for around 145 miles.
Gasoline this morning was 3.03-3.09 (Hemet) and at the Chevron in Brea they were lining up for gas at 2.85 a gallon.
The only time I have to wait for fuel is in Garden Grove, the station is very busy with taxis.
Why is CE in Northern CA 10 cents less? Usually the Gasoline is more expensive up there.

don't know why it is cheaper up here. $2.04 at CE and $1.99 at Berkeley Trillium. The difference in %CH4 could theoretically make a difference. However, how large is your data set? Given the wide variation in fill qualities per ambient temp and pumps, I find it difficult to make any conclusions until i have a handful of data points at each station. Yes, i'm a nerdy scientist, and have an excel sheet going with every fill documented.

I understand what you mean, If I top off after lets say 80 miles, I may get over 3gge, which shoots my mpg way down. Then lets say the next fillup after 160 miles, I may get less than 4gge and it shoots my mpg way up.
I have all the data since I bought the car in August if you want to check it out. Post something in the Yahoo group and I will send it if interested.

CE and Trillium in Phoenix have never been the same price. Just like Exxon and Arco will always be different. According to CE they adjust their prices once a month. For you CA folks just FYI Trillium and Pinnacle are the same company. Pretty soon I can dust of my stickers that say save a $1 per gallon and start sticking them on my cars again.

Anyone here have a second meter and data on what it may be saving/costing you for fuel? Is it a worthwhile investment in your opinion. SoCal Gas area of particular intrest as the rate sheet shows $0.19/gge.
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
I stopped at the Garden Grove CE station last night, they raised the price up another 8 cents to 2.229. The gasoline at the Arco (same location) was 2.99.

I have a spreadsheet that I used that takes into account electricity, the FM rebuild, cost of NG and calculates your saving. It is adjustable by MPG your car gets and you can see the savings. Because I drive a lot for my business I save almost $6000 per year in fuel cost. Anyone who wants the spread sheet just email me at murphy@cngmotors.com. I have unprotected the sheet so you can adjust any of the figures to get an accurate account.

Anyone have a good idea of what stations in the LA area (specifically around Santa Monica or Long Beach) have the best prices for natural gas? Just got a Civic yesterday... saw one station around Cerritos selling for $2.04 and then one in Long Beach at $2.22.
Right now, my plan is to use Mastercard / Visa, but are there other "hidden" stations (or cheaper stations) that I could access along the 405 from LB to Santa Monica by getting a 3rd party card (like they have in Vegas with Haycock Petroleum)?
Thanks for any advice... as I said, I'm totally new at this and haven't even filled up the tank once yet! :)

murphy has been kind enough to post the prices that people email him on his company's website. no promises they are 100% current all the time, as he relies on people to inform him.

It is best to just check out the stations in your area, or the common route you drive. I have a station (Moreno Valley) that is a bit out of the way, and now is only 2 cents less than my local (Hemet) station so it is not worth the inconvienience. Also reliability, such as the station in Ontario, last check it was 1.72 but of the five or so times I went there, twice the card reader would not connect, and the (only 3,000psi) fills are not that good.
I have never had any other stations that I could not get fuel.
Murphy had been posting the fuel prices on his site, but I dont think many too prices are up to date. www.cngmotors.com
For locations check out http://www.cleancarmaps.com and Yahoo group http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/civicgxngv/ there is a pdf file with calif stations.
I usually post the prices of the stations I visit on the first day of the month when they adjust the prices. This month Clean Energy bumped their prices up on the 15th, their current price is 2.229 (Long Beach, Garden Grove, Moreno Valley) check their site for more locations.
    Welcome to the NGV club!

i just stopped by the Santa Monica station and found the price to be $2.23. Do you know where it is?
  • lakewood90712lakewood90712 Member Posts: 108
I think the " Cerritos' station is actually california clean fuels on Woodruff in the school parking lot. it is run by Dickson sweeper co. Virtually all the other la / oc
stations are run by clean energy and this includes most So Cal gas company locations.

I am # 20 on the Phill AQMD $2000 grant list. The only reason I'm finally getting one is convenience. Even with the govmn't grant money, and tax credit , real cost is after equipment purchase, install , refurb cost and electricity is not much less than the clean energy station prices.
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
I stopped in Garden Grove Last night, price was $2.449, up 22 cents from last week.
The Diamond Bar and Placentia stations are looking good again.

I did my taxes, and my wife and I got hit by the Alternative Minimum tax. The worst part was because of this, we lost the $4000 credit for buying the GX. I am putting in the phill, and the $2000 AQMD Grant is a big reason (I am #13 on the list :). I assume that I will not qualify for the $1000 Income tax credit because of the AMT. This tax on the rich is reaching further and further into the middle class. My wife and I are teachers, so it's not like we are rolling in money...

The Carson CE station is also up to 2.449.
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
Filled this morning in Placentia, first time I got a lousy fill there. It put the gauge up the full tick mark.
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
Filled in Diamond Bar this morning, I drove 13 miles with the fuel light on and it took 5.687 gge.

    Hey all,

Why are the prices so GREAT in Burbank? I was there on Wednesday and paid $1.895. It is kind of out of the way for me, but WOW, it is almost worth a drive...

BTW, I was called by Phill and the AQMD came through and I can order my phill unit.

    WHOO HOO!
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
    Down 5 cents.
This is my main fuel source, and it is nice to know they adjust the price to the actual price of the fuel and not what gasoline costs. I know most people here on this forum will never fuel here but it has been a reliable and convienient station for me 24/7.

I was on the 405 heading home and stopped at the LAX refill station. $2.449 a per GGE? What are they smoking and should they be smoking it that close to a refilling station?
  • lakewood90712lakewood90712 Member Posts: 108
Smoking very fine COHIBA cigars from an island near Miami. ;)
C.E. prices are linked to gasoline retail prices . A few of the other public stations link prices to gas cost plus a profit margin. No competition exists because demand for it does not exist . Even at C.E prices, most of the year it is still a better deal than gasoline, and if a true oil crisis happens, it will be a very good place to get fuel.
  • dejapoohdejapooh Member Posts: 40
Just another fine reason to go for a home fill station.

Is fuel in Utah still less than a dollar?
  • musicmannmusicmann Member Posts: 29
    Johnny,

Have you or anyone in the forum tried the Riverside city yard? It's near the 91 Freeway at the Adams/Auto Center Drive exit. I don't get out that way often, but the last time I was there, I drove by (with a regular gasoline vehicle) just to see where it was. The price was $0.40 less per gge than anywhere I have seen. Is this price usual for this station? Do you get a good fill there?

    Michael
  • jetboatjohnnyjetboatjohnny Member Posts: 104
    Michael,
I have not tried the city yard, I was aware they had a good price. I rarely drive the 91 anymore unless I go visit my family, and then I usually just top off before I leave, and can make the trip easily, even to Newport Beach and back to Hemet. I take the 60, so it is a bit out of the way.
That leaves me with few choices, Moreno Valley was good until CE jacked up their prices, and they blocked off Indian Road for construction. Ontario station is very unreliable, and lousy 3,000psi fills. Even the couple of 3,000psi fills from Hemet were much better than there.
I should check it out next time I head down the 91, along with the one in Corona, if it is still there?
    J
  • londnrlondnr Member Posts: 55
    Johnny,

I drove by the Corona station the other day - the one behind the court - I meant to go back and check, but it looks as if it's gone. I wonder if anyone can confirm this?

On another note - the City of Riverside yard - is that the same as the So Cal Gas yard? I don't get out that way much anymore but at $0.40 per gge less it is well worth remembering. What form of payment do they take?

    Thanks,

    Alan

The station behind the post office on Grand is gone and has been for a few months. I get gas in Corona off of Rincon and Cota at the City of Corona Yard. I usually get decent fills there, and the price is around $2.019/gge. It was out of order a few weeks ago but I think it corresponded to a power outage. It was working as of 3 days ago. I live in Corona and work in Anaheim so I go to the Corona and Placentia stations the most. Corona is the cheapest for me.
