what was the price before tax and dmv but inluding all junk fees and destination?
I guess there are a lot of desperate sales mans out there!
Thanks for sharing - enjoy your civic
  • shhessyshhessy Member Posts: 16
The price including destination was 15,175, then they gave me a doc fee discount to $249. I paid $86 for new plates and do not remember what else. Total 16,270. I did not bother to ask what invoice was when we chatted online. The price was "one-day special", but I do not know if that is true or not. I would certainly recommend trying them. What I liked best is that all the price negotiation was online, and I could print out entire chat. When I arrived, we did not discuss prices at all. Boch dealership was crowded yesterday, unlike in other places where I went in the last 2 weeks, which were somber and empty.
Also, I liked that they had the car in stock and when I drove it, it had only 3 miles on it. :D:D

Just do a proper break in and barring oem defects, you'll be GTG to 400,000 miles plus !
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Thx for sharing and good for you! You got a great price and the negotiations were easy. You knew what a great price was and jumped on it. You did your homework well. I hope you're going to give your sales person a perfect CSI when the survey arrives.
  • shhessyshhessy Member Posts: 16
Thanks. I'll search Internet what the proper break-in procedure is. I do not recall if I did anything special on my 1997 Civic. It would've served me still, if a drunk wouldn't have totaled it crashing in the rear. A tow company is still to tow poor thing away... The old Civic's dead, hail the new one! :D:D

I'll search Internet what the proper break-in procedure is.

That information should be in your owner's manual.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
There really isn't a strict break in procedure for modern cars.

Honda says to avoid full throttle starts and to try to avoid hard brealing for the first 500 miles.

I wouldn't use my cruise control at first either and I would vary my highway speeds but, in the life of the car, it probably wouldn't make a difference.

One dealer has a price of $19,400 + $55 doc fee, before DMV & CA sales tax. The posted cost is $19,111. Can anyone beat this? btw, it HAS to be a manual transmission!
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I would think that if a store got stuck with an oddball car like this they would be happy to do a very skinny deal to get rid of it.

However, they are well aware of the fact you HAVE to have this car and there probably aren't many (if any) out there. You are not in a position of strength in that regard.

In case it matters, remember, cars that are unpopular when new are even more unpopular as used cars. You may want to rethink the manual transmission you want so badly.
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
Since I wanted a "manual" LX-S, which first of all was really hard to find in this area, even in some nearby states, the local dealership had to order it. Therefore, since they ordered it, there was no difference if I got the manual or automatic (manuals are cheaper for about 1000 bucks).

If you really want a manual, got for it but keep in mind that there will be more options if you are willing to take an automatic.

Well thanx to BOCH HONDA IN NORWOOD I purchased a 2009 Honda Civic LX-S Auto for a staggering price of 16,550 invoice 17,272 my lease with no money down is 12k for 36 months at 214 a month with preffered status INCLUDING taxes.

    Needless to say call BOCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • samanthawsamanthaw Member Posts: 4
2009 Honda civic LX-S the deal quote me $18,500 OTD, is that a good deal?
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
    depends,

Could you break the 18,500 down?

For example; TX has a 6.25% car sales tax, which increases the OTD price considerably...
  • samanthawsamanthaw Member Posts: 4
i am living in LA. $18,500 include everything (tax and DMV fee)
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
Personally I would say that it's a good deal,

My OTD price was 18800 plus a free tint, auto sales tax is higher in CA than in TX therefore you are getting a better deal than me :P mine was a manual though
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    Your Civic was a manual?

Somehow, I'll bet it still is! ;)
  • shhessyshhessy Member Posts: 16
Congrats!! Did you actually give you the car? I am still waiting till they put new plates on mine. :surprise:
  • dizzy01dizzy01 Member Posts: 6
do you mean LA (los angeles) or LA (louisiana)? If los angeles, i'd like to know the dealership since i'm looking for an lx-s in the los angeles area and that seems like a good price to me.
  • dizzy01dizzy01 Member Posts: 6
samanthaw, one last question. was your lx-s manual or auto for that $18500 price? gonna try to hit the dealers soon and need the best back up info possible. feels like going into battle.
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
You can prob do MUCH better on that LX-S. At or below invoice right now makes more sense. However, I did get my LX-S in San Diego for 18500. I ordered the color I wanted (negotiated and ordered sometime late in Oct/delivered Dec 9) thru Honda via my dealer; I KNOW I could have gotten it for invoice, but would have had to abandon the car and do it elsewhere. It wasn't worth the hassle.

The LX-S is a MUCH better value AND the black interior/leather wrapped steering wheel is VERY nice. The alloy wheels are a huge improvement.

It just makes more sense to pay the extra few hunnerd bucks for this trim. I am loving driving it!
  • dizzy01dizzy01 Member Posts: 6
Thanks sinsd. Did you get it for $18500, plus tax, license or $18500 out the door, including tax and license?
  • sphlsphl Member Posts: 7
Looks like everybody who's buying the EX trim is buying the EX-L. What are the prices like for EX? Edmunds TMV shows MSRP, can I expect to get invoice or below? I'm in the Seattle area but willing to shop in Oregon and CA. Thanks!
  • civic09civic09 Member Posts: 18
Sphl --- west cost may be higher - but east at coast you can get 09 EX automatic at low18k.

Few desperate honda dealers from NJ, NYC area quoted me 18,050. That included destination and all junk fees but tax and dmv. The only catch was to “colors in stock” – out-dealers trades would cost little more. But it seems like everybody has plenty of stock.

I would wait few weeks. I heard that used market went south in November/December of 08. Friend of mine goes to Manheim Used cars sales auctions – he showed me reports from those auctions. Used 08 Civics EX auto are selling between 12k to 14k depending on miles (low teens to low twenties miles). 08 LX were sold even 2k cheaper.

I think new car market will follow next. He even showed me few civic 09 EX repossessed sold at auctions for low 15 with very low miles. Honda will probable drop the price and rates, Toyota and Nissan already did.

    Stay tuned…
  • dieseldan9dieseldan9 Member Posts: 19
I agree on spending the extra money on the LX-S I am very impressed with my new car.
  • sphlsphl Member Posts: 7
Thanks civic09! I actually just bought an infiniti and indeed the east coast prices are better but shipping cost doesn't make sense for civic, it did help w/ negotiations locally though. I'll look into used as well.

see my post here for a break price break down on the EX's back in mid december: amking, "Honda Civic Prices Paid and Buying Experience" #7782, 14 Dec 2008 11:46 pm

my guess is it can only go lower.....
  • amkingamking Member Posts: 16
just to update this, i was able to sell my 2001 nissan sentra online via craigslist in a day and a half for $5000. glad i didnt take the low ball dealer offer of $3000! :)

i'm still amazed i sold it off craigslist~
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
Woops, sorry. . . No, that price included destination only, less TTL. I don't have my paper work handy right now, but I even think it was more like 18600 and change. Not the best price, I know that for certain. BTW, while I was waiting for my car to arrive, I did go to another competing dealer who immediately offered invoice, but he didn't have the Urban Titanium, which is/was my ONLY choice :)
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
Hey, I sold my 1991 BASE model Honda Civic Hatch for 1,700.00 using craigslist. 204k miles, too! LOL
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
A well maintained well cared for Honda still in good shape does hold it's value extremely well, no debating that. Last year I sold my 99 CRV with 140K miles for $5800 listing it also on Craiglist in 3 days.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Actually, the vast majority of EX Civics sold aren't the EXL's. A lot of people have no use for leather especially in a Civic.

You won't save any money traveling to OR or CA. that is a bad rumor. We all pay the same for our cars. No incentive money on Civics.

This is my first time going to a dealership. I called a popular dealership and asked them the best price i can get on a 4-door,2009 honda civic lx auto transmission, His quote was $16,886 which includes destination charge.
Went to a different dealership to actually test drive the car. After wasting my time, their offer was $17, 329. After i told them i had a better deal at $16,886, their new offer was $17, 200 and when i said i was going to walk out, the asks me to wait, wastes my time again and finally comes back with a sheet indicating that the invoice price is $16,818 so the $17,200 i got offered is the best deal around. i thanked him and walked out.

iAnyway, I'd called a different dealership while this guy was wasting my time and he offered me something in the $17k range, but when i said i'd been offered a different deal, he asked how low and i said $16,800. He goes "if i offer it to you at 16,800, will you buy it?" i go "yes". so he puts me on hold, comes back and tells me i can have the car for $16,800 with the destination charge included with the price. The only fees are $99 processing fee which seems to be the same for the dealerships around here plus tax and tags. I did go to the dealership and the price was the same as he's quoted on the phone. i didn't try to renegotiate. I'm wondering if i coulda gone lower and had a better deal. Mind you the 16,800 includes the $500 cashback honda is having. is this worth it or can i get a better price?
    thanks.

I want to buy a 2009 Civic LX with auto trans. I have an offer of
    $17,123 + $300 tax + $199 documentation fees + tags for
a total of $17,698 OTD. That seems like a good price to me.
I keep reading where people are buying for invoice plus tax, tags
and fees. What is invoice for the Civic LX with auto trans?
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
i saw the invoice somewhere for $16, 525 national base price, not including the $670 destination price.
Kelly blue book lists the invoice as $17,3**, i'm not sure if that includes the destination charge.
I had a dealer show me a sheet with a list of all their cars with the invoice and MSRPs listed and the invoice for the lx on that sheet was $16,818.
Honda has a $500 cashbacks most dealerships won't tell you about.
I need to call a different guy tomorrow but if i can get it for $16,700 or a little less, it might convince me to give up on the corolla.
    hope this helps.
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
with the 6% tax, fees and tags, mine came a little under $18,000. i haven't sealed the deal yet. it's the best price i've found soo far but i'm looking to see if i can get an extra 100 knocked off. btw, it is the lx auto, 2009.
  • gr8carsgr8cars Member Posts: 14
I got the LX-Auto with Splash Guard for 16.5 + Tax, Title (275.50) from HughWhite Honda, Columbus OH. Best deal around this location.. I was able to match the deal Dayton dealer (mattcastruccihonda) was offering (1000$ cashback in addition to sales price) and got the color we wanted... This is my second purchase from HughWhite and never had issues.. and they are very good to deal with.. Hope this helps someone around this area.

I would suggest doing a price check for 200 miles radius to get the best deal.

Why not just buy the car and quit squabbling over pennies.
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
last time i checked, a hundred bucks isn't pennies. if i can get a better deal that's $100 or more in savings, why wouldn't i go for it?! I spend less than $15 bucks on gas for my current civic...so a hundred bucks is 4months worth of gas for me.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Why not just buy the car and quit squabbling over pennies.

Thank You. It ain't rocket science and you ain't negotiating the Treaty of Versailles.
  • gr8carsgr8cars Member Posts: 14
You can ask other dealers to beat this price and mostly you would get atleast one dealer would do it if you say you will buy the same day.. For me I had atleast 4 dealers wanted me to buy it same day to give the deal and it always works if you show the interest to buy if the price is right!

I would agree with you on getting 100$ more as a deal as it is our money not some one else! Good luck!
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
    Time is money.
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
Mind you the 16,800 includes the $500 cashback honda is having

By the way, is this a secret and only you know of a 500.00 cashback rebate or whatever? I just bought a car and was not informed. Where'd you get this info?

Did you buy the car yet? :P
  • gr8carsgr8cars Member Posts: 14
I too got this info via an email from a dealer claiming the deal is good till Jan5.. 500$ rebate was mentioned as Honda's incentive.
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
heritage honda in westminster told me about it. bowie honda wouldn't mention it and when i asked, they told me the 500 had already been deducted from the $17, 200 final price they were given me. o'donnell told me the $16,800 includes the 500 and that was after i'd asked what about the $500 cashback. mileone heritage was the only one that mentioned it immediately when i called because i was looking for a 2008 civic and the guy said "you know with the 500 cashback that's going on now you could get the 2009 for the price of the 08".
Just ask you dealer and know that the cash back ends today.
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
you guys are right...i called the honda dealer in annapolis and his price was 17,400. when i told him the best deal i got was 16,8. he told me "you got no shopping to do. i wouldn't sell them for that much." i guess i'm closing the deal i have now.
  • mzbluemzblue Member Posts: 14
my phone is ringing of that hook. i got a dealer who offered me 16.7 + splashguards so i was just about to leave. another dealer calls and tells me 16.800. i tell him i'm sorry i have to pass on his deal cuz i have something better that's closer to me and he when i tell him my current deal he asks if i take $200 off the price will you drive up here, i'm like yeah. well, he just called back in 3seconds and goes it's done. He's given me 16500 price + tags and taxes. he says my OTD price will be 17.7xx. it's definately a deal and i'm jumping on it.
This forum really helped me be a good shopper in terms of helping me know what deals i can get. thanks to all of you. peace out.
  • sphlsphl Member Posts: 7
Thank you amking, that was really helpful. Good to know there is room to negotiate on this car. I'm glad to hear you sold your old car successfully on craigslist too!
  • jimb519jimb519 Member Posts: 11
Closed the deal tonight. 2009 LX automatic for $16,700, + tax, title. Included splash guards and all season floor mats and $100 gas card. Used the Honda 3.9% finance. Rochester, NY
