    Hi,

I was originally going to buy a 2009 CIVIC EX Sedan AT just like you did. I am from the same general area as you. What I did was send out internet inquiries to about 5-7 dealerships and talked or emailed back to all of them that responded to me. Some dealerships will ask you what your best offer is, some will give you an offer without any prodding from you. So did your civic have the protection package??? Are the rubber seals the ones one the edge that were installed by the dealer to protect other cars from getting dinged from your doors or something else? For me, I would just as soon as remove those rubber inserts since I never plan on hitting other cars with my doors.

As far as service department, if they are the closest to you, I would still consider getting your car serviced by them and see what type of service you get before you shut the door on that option. The people that work at the service department are different from the salesmen and bad service from one might not be the same case with the other. Just a thought.

    Sincerely

    Hi,

I did not buy the protection package since I did not expect to get much utility out of it. I've observed that it sometimes varies between dealers; it seems to typically include mud flaps and wheel locks, but I've seen them include things like a trunk liner as well. The rubber seals I was talking about are on the inside of each door frame. When installed correctly, the rubber acts as a seal which prevents moisture from getting in.

In terms of proximity, this dealership is not the closest. While it is not extremely far away, there are at least a few closer ones. I agree with you that the salesman may not necessarily reflect the quality of the service center, and vice versa. In the case of this dealership, I am basing my decision solely upon firsthand experience with their service center.

    Regards

yeah you're right. After looking at my receipt from cherry hill, i realized it's 7% just like philly. It's the rest of PA and MD that's 6%. But still, i paid the 7% philly tax for my last car. Sorry, considering i spend time in all 3 states, i get things mixed up at times. Infact the only way i keep things straight is that philly is the same as jersey in terms of tax and no tax for food and clothing.
Good luck with the car. I know some dealers in south jersey are super desperate. I'm talking about the mt laurel, marlton area. If i didn't feel like driving, i'd have had a better deal from one dealership there.

My daughter would like to purchase her first car a Honda Civic EX or EXL and maybe with Navigation system. Today we went to a Boston Honda dealer and he offered her a $50 (EX) $100 discount for EXL. Net price EX = $21,989 & EXL $23,785 without nav. Adding nav = $2000 for EX & $1200 EXL

They also offered 7.91% for 36-60 mo financing & 8.91% for 72 mos.

I feel the prices and rates are way out there but dont know what is reasonable. Can someone tell me what is a reasonable price, interest rate, and if there are any current incentives Honda is offering?
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
I didn't study the EX, but anything at or below INVOICE is an okay deal. Also, Honda had lower rates, which ended Jan 5th. The Civics were as low as . . .I am forgetting now, but I got 3.9% for 60 mos

I purchased the LX-S - very happy with it, especially the black interior

You should be able to do much, much better on both the price and financing options (depending on her credit). I'd look back through this topic, as well as check out overstock.com to get a better quote. Good luck!

definitely should be able to do better.

Drive to Nashua. At the end of December, I bought a 2009 EX-L with Navi with an out the door price (incl. fees and docs) of $22,500 from Peter's, but I'm assuming she'd have to pay sales tax if you live in MA, so add that on top. She may be able to do a little bit better, but I wanted a specific color with a manual tranny as well, so I knew my negotiating room would be limited since they ended up ordering it. Talk with Luke.
  • sloveslove Member Posts: 2
Run from that deal a.s.a.p.,I would be looking for at least $2000.00 off sticker, also do not pay for dealer added package(wheel locks, car wash, b.s.) As far as interest rates with good credit 36 months you should look for low 5,maybe mid to upper 5 with 48 months. Shop it on line with multiple dealers, make sure you tell them to include dest. charge,or they will stick you. Also tell them to respond by email with quote before they call you. Get tough with them, they are pro's and will destroy your Daughter. Tell them you don't need any new friends, you just want to buy a car for as cheap as possible,I bought my daughter a 08 civic lx auto. last spring before the meltdown for 16650.00 incl. dest and all weather mats. Good luck be careful.

Just got quoted, 18113.59 OTR from Ourisman Honda of Laurel, MD.

Does this seem like a good price? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    more info:

    MSRP: 19525
    Invoice: 18138.81
    sales tax: 6%
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
    Seems good to me

I'd say go for it, if you are going to pay a little bit more than 18K for an LX-S is a really good price.

What's the break-down, exactly? Including destination, give us the details
  • d4nnyd4nny Member Posts: 5
This is exactly how the email was sent.

    MSRP: 19525
    Invoice: 18138.81* Price includes 670 dest/freight
    Dealer Holdback: 377.10
    Dealer Cash: 500
    Internet Discount: 500

    18138.81-377.10-500-500 = 16761.71

OTR price based on the above number 18113.59**

**Price includes taxes, tags, destination charge and any and all fees associated with purchase of vehicle.

    What do you think?

All Civic's are offered at 2.9% (24-36 months) or 3.9% (37-60 months) to well qualified buyers through 03/02.

    Tough talk!

When people are nioce and friendly I'll go the extra mile for them. Your approach will turn a pleasant transaction into a battle and you won't end up saving any money in the end.

Unfortunately, your kind are not common among the Honda salesmen in my area. My attitude plan wasn't to be as trite as slove; I did relax a bit by keeping a few points in mind as I began shopping: (1) there were 4-6 other dealerships selling the exact same car within 50 miles, so no need to rush until I find the number I'm happy with. (2) Getting up walking out the door wasn't a strong suite of mine, however, my girlfriend was more than happy to chime in with an "I'm hungry," or "I'm late, can wrap this up?" when I found myself cornered or the discussion was leading to a dead end. Finally, and most important, the buyer is in control, especially in this buyer's market.

This was my first new-car buying experience and besides enjoying the thrill of debate and head-to-head bargaining combat, I visited a couple Honda dealerships that were farther out before I planned to buy the car from a more local dealership, as to practice. I'm sure glad I did, the first two practice runs were so embarrassing as far as falling into the hands of the salesman's word-play and number games, they make for great stories at the pub.

    Quick buying experience story:
The first salesman on my first visit to a dealership (once I was ready to buy), used every classic sales technique on me. My favorite and final one was after my lady and I had been there about 45 minutes: about 20 minutes before closing time, Stan stamped his table with his right fist and said: "voltron12, you are a smart guy, I can see that, let's do $21,000 out the door and the offer is good until we lock up for the night. This price is unbeatable and you can not shop it around. If you come back tomorrow, the price will be higher, because I know you'll have shopped it around and won't be able to beat it, so I will raise it $200 and still know I have the best price. I'll let you think about it." There were a couple of fist-slams on the table in the middle of that sentence, nothing rude, just driving his point home with some racket. As he stood up and straightened his tie and buttoned his jacket, I stood up and let him know I needed a few minutes. I grabbed my cellphone out of my pocket to talk to "my sales manager" at which point Stan mentioned that by using my phone, the deal would be canceled. I have to admit, of all the techniques, that one had me thinking about pulling the trigger the most. Anyway, I ended up beating his price a little but never got around to gloating about it. I guess I know where I'm getting my oil changes, though... Super Service Stan. :shades:

    Parting Advice:
The salesmen bargain car prices for a living, you (probably) don't, don't pay a penny more than you want. There's another dealership around the corner.
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
I dont know - still can't figure what you wrote, but if you are out the door TL and all for 18k and change, then go for it.
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
    No way!

Just a month??? are they nuts, as long as they come up with a better offer at end of this one, I still don't get the idea of having this low APR offer for just a month since their sales fell 25%.

  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Stan stamped his table with his right fist

My favorite line that was used on me is, "Awww come on, I have to feed my family". I snickered and told him I had a tin can in my car and he could go stand on a street corner with it. I thought, how pathetic.
  • fred_durstfred_durst Member Posts: 8
Does anyone have the Consumer Reports True Price Report? I'm looking for the data on the Civic LX-S for assistance with my negotiations.

    Thanks
  • voltron12voltron12 Member Posts: 13
I never understood this technique. Don't I have to feed my family too? I also heard many salesman say that since one wouldn't negotiate the price of groceries as to convince you that he's doing you a favor knocking off another $500. I promised every salesman who dropped that line on me that I'd negotiate chips and beer once it became a several hundred dollar monthly payment for several years not to mention maintenance/repairs/insurance etc.

Just another arrow in the quiver so to speak.Did it work for him? Did it work well on you? I am guessing not!?
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
There comes a point when a customer works a deal down to a "mini". Once the price hits that point I dont care how much more of a discount you get because it all pays the same - $150.00. To me, you might as well try to get to net-net and I'll do what I can to help you get there. But dont kill me on the survey. :)
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
But dont kill me on the survey. :)

I approached the last few purchases that a perfect CSI is coming as long as the negotiations aren't too drawn out and the sales person has conducted themselves in a professional manner. If I'm feeling his CSI is starting to take a hit, "kindly" reminding him of this has always changed his tune.
  • ruking1ruking1 Member Posts: 19,826
This is not just Honda, but most dealers at some point of the transaction, stress how important either the phone or internet survey is to both the dealership and the individual sales person.
  • fred_durstfred_durst Member Posts: 8
I bit the bullet and got it myself, CR is $17,570 Bottom line price for a Civic LX-S AT. I'm getting quotes in SC for OTD prices of:
    $18,421
    $18,874
    $19,159
    $19,708
  • fred_durstfred_durst Member Posts: 8
That seems reasonable the Consumer Reports bottom line price is $17570 so the dealer is making a profit of $543.

Let us know if you do any better.
  • d4nnyd4nny Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the Consumer Reports Info, REALLY helpful!!

I also got a bunch of quotes in MD. They started out really high but now they've leveled off. The 18113.59 otr is the lowest i've gotten. When i first i got quoted i was getting high to mid 19k offers, but I've been holding out for over a month now, so we'll see how much lower i can go. I wanted to get at least under 18,000, but we'll see.

    18,502.76
    18,500.00
    18,400.00
    18,350.00
    18,113.59
  • japsjaps Member Posts: 29
    I just got 17, 347 plus tax.
  • d4nnyd4nny Member Posts: 5
17,347 on the road? or 17,347 you have to pay taxes also, which would bump it up to about 18,300ish total price?

Taxes in MD are 6% so its basically another 1k more.

I'm trying to get at the least under 18 total on the road price. Thanks!
  • tupuctupuc Member Posts: 27
good luck finding an LX-S AT under 18K, I don't think you'll find it...maybe if it was manual but AT na..
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    Agree.

People can get very frustrated trying to buy at some of the numbers other people say they paid without knowing all of the details.
  • fred_durstfred_durst Member Posts: 8
I have a new low quote on a Civic LX-S AT here in SC. It breaks down as follows.
    17,539 sale price
    300 tax (SC allowed maximum)
    25 tags (transfer)
    299 doc fee

    $18,163 OTD price
  • sinsdsinsd Member Posts: 46
Where is the destination fee in this price?
  • fred_durstfred_durst Member Posts: 8
The destination fee is included in the sale price figure. The following is copied and pasted directly from their written quote

In order to provide the best possible pricing, the quoted price includes the manufacturer destination charge,

    Hello:

I am new to forum and have searched a bit on pricing but was hoping someone might be able to provide some quick input on the 09 Civic EX-L with Navi AT Sedan. I am looking in the MD/DC/VA area for this car. Looking to purchase this month to take advantage of $500 kickback to dealer and 2.9% financing. Would appreciate responses from anyone who has recently purchased this same car and price paid. I have looked through Edmund's True Market Value information for my region and just wanted a sanity check if those values reflect what people are paying in this current market.

    Thanks much in advance!

    Tichin

Thanks for the great info....where were you able to find out about the 2.9% financing? How long will this be offered and what are the details?

Where did you find out that the dealers receive $500 kickback. Overstock.com said they receive one until the end of February but I didn't see any mention of the amount.

Hi Tjchin. Just bought an EX-L w/Nav & AT Coupe yesterday from Criswell Honda in Germantown. Pricing should be similar for the sedan. Here's the pricing details:

    MSRP - $24,325
    Invoice - $22,541
    Dealer Holdback - $473
    Dealer Kickback - $500
Internet Discount - $500 (good for 72 hours)

    Price paid $21,068 ($22,541 - $473 - $500 - $500)
On the road (tax, tags, etc.) - $22,778

The only add-on included in the on the road price is $100 for locking wheel nuts (a dealer installed accessory). I was happy enough with the price to not quibble about the wheel nuts.

This was my process. I used Edmunds.com to obtain price quotes from all of the local dealers. Criswell didn't respond with a quote. They just suggested bringing them the lowest quote (printed email) and they'd match it. Criswell was my preferred dealer since they're only a few miles from my home and have a good rep based on posts on this board. The best quote I received was from Laurel Honda who provided the detail math above plus an explanation of what each line item meant (very helpful). I then went to Criswell with email in hand and they matched it with no questions asked.

I was also able to obtain 3.9% financing for 60 months thru Honda Financial (2.9 % available for shorter loans). I believe this is good through the end of March on Civics only. I also didn't get any pressure to purchase an extended warranty. Very good buying experience and very happy with the car (thru 50 or so miles).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your email. Your purchase price on the 2009 Civic 2 door EXL automatic including destiantion is $20,006. The installed price on the fog lights are $599, so the total would be $20,006 + $599 fog lights + $149 doc fee for a total of $20,754. Again, we have the free lifetime powertrain warranty, three free oil changes, lifetime free car washes, and free service loaners. Hope I can earn your business.
THis is my offer from a local dealer on a 2009 EXL, u decide!

Thanks to all the other posters for the information to help me make a great deal. I bought a new 2009 4-door Civic Si in black for my son today at Brewster Honda in NY. I had email and phone quotes that were up to $1200 more than my final deal. Many of the quotes (after I tried to play hardball) were still in the range of about $600 more than my final price. Here is what I paid:

    MSRP $22,775
    Invoice: $21,020
Selling price I paid, with $670 destination included: $20,000
    tax@7.375% $1,475
    DMV new plates $132.50
    NY inspection $10
    Tire fee $12.50
    Document fee $45

Total out the door of $21,675, which I paid in cash. No trade involved. Good luck with your own deal making.

Am investigating a few cars, Civic being one of them. Here is what I'm hearing so far through email. I have not spoken with anyone in person or taken a test drive yet.

    These are automatics WITHOUT Navi:

2009 Civic LX: $16,996.00 plus tax, tag and fees.

2009 Civic EX-L: $20,015.00 plus tax, tag and fees.

Thoughts? I think I can do better, but still early.

(as a side, the reason I'm considering the EXL is stability control)

    Hello:

Thanks to everyone for great info on the Civic EX-L. Ketty, I found the info on the Honda financing offers directly on Honda's site. The 2.9% financing is available through 3/2/09. Found out about the $500 dealer kickback on the Edmunds website. There is a link for "incentives" when you are searching a car model.

Good luck on your car shopping!!

I am for Ohio. Was in the market for a 2009 civic Ex auto. Sent a quote for internet pricing because i don’t have the time to spend BSing with sales folks. Got lot of replies back. on some quotes where in the world do get the pricing.... no wonder dealerships are closing :(
I bought my car from Honda Marysville. 18000 was the quote they gave me. A great deal. Also took advantage for 3.9% financing for 60 months. The sales team is very professional. Almost like going to a lexus Dealership. On top of the great deal they threw in all weather Mats also. If anyone is in the market for a civic in Columbus Honda Marysville need to be considered for sure.
Don’t even bother with Roush Honda or Huge white Honda. They could never even come close to this price…. Immke Honda also gave good pricing but the sales Manager at Honda Marysville was a great guy so I wanted to give him the business.

    :):):)
