I was originally going to buy a 2009 CIVIC EX Sedan AT just like you did. I am from the same general area as you. What I did was send out internet inquiries to about 5-7 dealerships and talked or emailed back to all of them that responded to me. Some dealerships will ask you what your best offer is, some will give you an offer without any prodding from you. So did your civic have the protection package??? Are the rubber seals the ones one the edge that were installed by the dealer to protect other cars from getting dinged from your doors or something else? For me, I would just as soon as remove those rubber inserts since I never plan on hitting other cars with my doors.
As far as service department, if they are the closest to you, I would still consider getting your car serviced by them and see what type of service you get before you shut the door on that option. The people that work at the service department are different from the salesmen and bad service from one might not be the same case with the other. Just a thought.
Sincerely
I did not buy the protection package since I did not expect to get much utility out of it. I've observed that it sometimes varies between dealers; it seems to typically include mud flaps and wheel locks, but I've seen them include things like a trunk liner as well. The rubber seals I was talking about are on the inside of each door frame. When installed correctly, the rubber acts as a seal which prevents moisture from getting in.
In terms of proximity, this dealership is not the closest. While it is not extremely far away, there are at least a few closer ones. I agree with you that the salesman may not necessarily reflect the quality of the service center, and vice versa. In the case of this dealership, I am basing my decision solely upon firsthand experience with their service center.
Regards
Good luck with the car. I know some dealers in south jersey are super desperate. I'm talking about the mt laurel, marlton area. If i didn't feel like driving, i'd have had a better deal from one dealership there.
They also offered 7.91% for 36-60 mo financing & 8.91% for 72 mos.
I feel the prices and rates are way out there but dont know what is reasonable. Can someone tell me what is a reasonable price, interest rate, and if there are any current incentives Honda is offering?
I purchased the LX-S - very happy with it, especially the black interior

What do you think?
When people are nioce and friendly I'll go the extra mile for them. Your approach will turn a pleasant transaction into a battle and you won't end up saving any money in the end.
This was my first new-car buying experience and besides enjoying the thrill of debate and head-to-head bargaining combat, I visited a couple Honda dealerships that were farther out before I planned to buy the car from a more local dealership, as to practice. I'm sure glad I did, the first two practice runs were so embarrassing as far as falling into the hands of the salesman's word-play and number games, they make for great stories at the pub.
Quick buying experience story:
The first salesman on my first visit to a dealership (once I was ready to buy), used every classic sales technique on me. My favorite and final one was after my lady and I had been there about 45 minutes: about 20 minutes before closing time, Stan stamped his table with his right fist and said: "voltron12, you are a smart guy, I can see that, let's do $21,000 out the door and the offer is good until we lock up for the night. This price is unbeatable and you can not shop it around. If you come back tomorrow, the price will be higher, because I know you'll have shopped it around and won't be able to beat it, so I will raise it $200 and still know I have the best price. I'll let you think about it." There were a couple of fist-slams on the table in the middle of that sentence, nothing rude, just driving his point home with some racket. As he stood up and straightened his tie and buttoned his jacket, I stood up and let him know I needed a few minutes. I grabbed my cellphone out of my pocket to talk to "my sales manager" at which point Stan mentioned that by using my phone, the deal would be canceled. I have to admit, of all the techniques, that one had me thinking about pulling the trigger the most. Anyway, I ended up beating his price a little but never got around to gloating about it. I guess I know where I'm getting my oil changes, though... Super Service Stan. :shades:
Parting Advice:
The salesmen bargain car prices for a living, you (probably) don't, don't pay a penny more than you want. There's another dealership around the corner.
Just a month??? are they nuts, as long as they come up with a better offer at end of this one, I still don't get the idea of having this low APR offer for just a month since their sales fell 25%.
My favorite line that was used on me is, "Awww come on, I have to feed my family". I snickered and told him I had a tin can in my car and he could go stand on a street corner with it. I thought, how pathetic.
Thanks
not CR but good to watch
I approached the last few purchases that a perfect CSI is coming as long as the negotiations aren't too drawn out and the sales person has conducted themselves in a professional manner. If I'm feeling his CSI is starting to take a hit, "kindly" reminding him of this has always changed his tune.

I also got a bunch of quotes in MD. They started out really high but now they've leveled off. The 18113.59 otr is the lowest i've gotten. When i first i got quoted i was getting high to mid 19k offers, but I've been holding out for over a month now, so we'll see how much lower i can go. I wanted to get at least under 18,000, but we'll see.

Taxes in MD are 6% so its basically another 1k more.
I'm trying to get at the least under 18 total on the road price. Thanks!
People can get very frustrated trying to buy at some of the numbers other people say they paid without knowing all of the details.

In order to provide the best possible pricing, the quoted price includes the manufacturer destination charge,
I have been a lurker for a couple of months and from reading the information on this great forum, I was able to purchase a 2009 Honda Civic LX 4 door sedan with automatic transmission from Sloane Honda of Philadelphia, PA. The price was $16,597 sale price
$995.82 Tax (6% inPA)
$288 Title & Tags
$17,880.82 OTD.
I am new to forum and have searched a bit on pricing but was hoping someone might be able to provide some quick input on the 09 Civic EX-L with Navi AT Sedan. I am looking in the MD/DC/VA area for this car. Looking to purchase this month to take advantage of $500 kickback to dealer and 2.9% financing. Would appreciate responses from anyone who has recently purchased this same car and price paid. I have looked through Edmund's True Market Value information for my region and just wanted a sanity check if those values reflect what people are paying in this current market.
Thanks much in advance!
Thanks for the great info....where were you able to find out about the 2.9% financing? How long will this be offered and what are the details?
Where did you find out that the dealers receive $500 kickback. Overstock.com said they receive one until the end of February but I didn't see any mention of the amount.
MSRP - $24,325
Invoice - $22,541
Dealer Holdback - $473
Dealer Kickback - $500
Internet Discount - $500 (good for 72 hours)
Price paid $21,068 ($22,541 - $473 - $500 - $500)
On the road (tax, tags, etc.) - $22,778
The only add-on included in the on the road price is $100 for locking wheel nuts (a dealer installed accessory). I was happy enough with the price to not quibble about the wheel nuts.
This was my process. I used Edmunds.com to obtain price quotes from all of the local dealers. Criswell didn't respond with a quote. They just suggested bringing them the lowest quote (printed email) and they'd match it. Criswell was my preferred dealer since they're only a few miles from my home and have a good rep based on posts on this board. The best quote I received was from Laurel Honda who provided the detail math above plus an explanation of what each line item meant (very helpful). I then went to Criswell with email in hand and they matched it with no questions asked.
I was also able to obtain 3.9% financing for 60 months thru Honda Financial (2.9 % available for shorter loans). I believe this is good through the end of March on Civics only. I also didn't get any pressure to purchase an extended warranty. Very good buying experience and very happy with the car (thru 50 or so miles).
Hope this helps.
THis is my offer from a local dealer on a 2009 EXL, u decide!
Any ideas ot there?
MSRP $22,775
Invoice: $21,020
Selling price I paid, with $670 destination included: $20,000
tax@7.375% $1,475
DMV new plates $132.50
NY inspection $10
Tire fee $12.50
Document fee $45
Total out the door of $21,675, which I paid in cash. No trade involved. Good luck with your own deal making.
These are automatics WITHOUT Navi:
2009 Civic LX: $16,996.00 plus tax, tag and fees.
2009 Civic EX-L: $20,015.00 plus tax, tag and fees.
Thoughts? I think I can do better, but still early.
(as a side, the reason I'm considering the EXL is stability control)
Thanks to everyone for great info on the Civic EX-L. Ketty, I found the info on the Honda financing offers directly on Honda's site. The 2.9% financing is available through 3/2/09. Found out about the $500 dealer kickback on the Edmunds website. There is a link for "incentives" when you are searching a car model.
Good luck on your car shopping!!

I bought my car from Honda Marysville. 18000 was the quote they gave me. A great deal. Also took advantage for 3.9% financing for 60 months. The sales team is very professional. Almost like going to a lexus Dealership. On top of the great deal they threw in all weather Mats also. If anyone is in the market for a civic in Columbus Honda Marysville need to be considered for sure.
Don’t even bother with Roush Honda or Huge white Honda. They could never even come close to this price . Immke Honda also gave good pricing but the sales Manager at Honda Marysville was a great guy so I wanted to give him the business.
