MSRP: $20,7755
Agreed upon price: $18,737
Cash Down: $2,000
Terms: 36 months/12,000 miles per year
Monthly payment: $229
Also bought the tire warranty separately-anyone ever have problems?
I had gone through previous dealers at used cars, certified car dealers, and eventually decided to get something new instead. I settled with buying a new car at Autowest Honda in Roseville, CA. I spent some time previously looking at car prices for used cars but didn't use spare enough for new cars and this ultimately cost me big time.
The price I paid out the door on the car is a very high price and it was poorly settled upon due to my lack of research for new cars and a first time buyers confidence.
Here's how it came down:
Invoice: ~$17,600
MSRP: $18,255
Price: $18,100
OTD: $20,459.99 (including taxes and etc below)
Doc fee: $55
Sales tax: $1316.24
DMV e-filing: $29
(optional)Service contract(to whom paid): SAFEGUARD: $750 -- this one was a poor oversight on my part and one I should have caught.
License fee: $118
Registration/Transfer fee: $83
California Tire fee: $8.75
So there you have it all laid out. After finalizing and signing everything off, it felt good driving back home 100 miles in my new car, but after checking online with all prices paid for same make and model -- I've got the blues.
The experience, should anyone care:
I went through 5 people (salesperson, new car manager, customer relations manager, financer, finance manager). The process was smooth up until it came to the finance department. One person in particular, the finance manager, I find it necessary to mention his name: Josh. He absolutely ruined the experience, and after the four people I had gone through, I was ready to leave without making a purchase. This guy in particular was locked in on getting me to purchase a warranty plan (~$2500) when I repeatedly expressed I had no interest and would not consider purchasing it no matter what. Right before he left he openly said out loud: "I don't give a crap" then walked out of the room. I realize had I walked out then, I would have saved quite a bit of money.
Moreover, in the finance department, I was being rushed, pushed forms at to sign (this is where the $750 SAFEGUARD warranty plan was thrown in and I missed), and given brief explanations and random numbers generated.
Things learned out of this experience:
1. Research new cars, pricing, dealer quotes, comparable prices paid for.
2. Carefully examine the "...Sale Contract," especially all the (OPTIONAL) bogus crap that could be thrown in.
3. Leave the lot when uncomfortable. An absolute must.
4. Don't make my mistakes.
Again thanks for sharing your experiences and I'll try to post mine experience so others can benefit (when I do purchase it).
But ya can't look back.
Enjoy your car!!!!
I have great credit, and one dealer had the nerve to tell me they'd give me the price above, but only with a higher rate (non-Honda) financing. Needless to say I left, and they rescinded the offer today, but it was too late.
My advice is to go through the internet department! I was quoted $18,225 + TTL for my Civic and I thought it was fair. I wanted the Royal Blue Pearl and the internet manager was more than happy to do a dealer trade at no cost. Unlike other dealers, he did not require a down payment or any additional charges.
Not only that but I noticed 3 very small dings on the driver's side door a few days later. I arranged to bring the car in, it was fixed with NO hassle and I even had a paid for rental car. I know that this service should be expected but I *rarely* deal with companies that don't want to fight about something.
So, in review, I loved my experience at Autowest Honda but *only* through the internet department. My sales guy was awesome and actually responded to my emails with tons of information instead of the usual "just come on in!"
Thanks,
Jeannine Fallon

Here in orlando dealers are offering the lx for 16,089.00. I will think the lx-s should be around 16,500.00. The only problem here is central florida is that dealers charge 599.00 doc fee. How much do dealers in South Florida charge for Doc fee?
This is from Bemis in Dekalb. Valley in Naperville is within +/- $50 of this.
Any way i bought Lx-S car last week North Florida (Jacksonville - Lucas Honda)
Here is my price .. I hope this will help somehow..
Car price LX-S 15869.67 (including des+wheel locks+Splash guards+trunk tray)
State & County Tax 7% 1021.17
Doc Fee (default.. ) 798.00
Lic -trans 90.00
Doc stamp Taxes 40.00
Total (OTD) = 17818.34
Note:
LX-S outside and black interior looks good.. Best buy for LX-S instead of LX.
Good luck,,,
Sticker was $20,775 (including destination charge)
I paid:
$17,287 (including destination charge)
$398 doc fee
$74 registration fee
$518.61 NC sales tax
which came out to $18,277.61 OTD. So how did I do on this deal?
I hope that I can hold out for $16,000 for LX or $16,500 for LX-S (destination charge included). I would welcome others in the Twin Cities to share their experience.
Thanks to all the good folks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
Price: 16,000
OTD: 17,600 with new plates and 8% sales tax
Tax is calculated on pre-$500 dealer cash amount
Good luck

Industry's Big Hope for Small Cars Fades - WSJ.com

Last summer, when gas cost $4 a gallon, buyers snapped up small cars so fast that dealers couldn't keep them in stock. Now, with gas prices half that level, almost 500,000 fuel-thrifty models are piled up unsold around the country.
The turnabout comes at a bad time for the struggling U.S. car industry, which has revamped factories and shifted product plans to produce more small cars in coming years. The moves are prompted by coming stricter federal fuel-economy standards and the Obama administration's car-bailout plan, which encourages auto makers to boost their vehicles' mileage.
Practically every small car in the market is stacked up at dealerships. At the end of February, Honda Motor Co. had 22,191 Fits on dealer lots -- enough to last 125 days at the current sales rate, according to Autodata Corp. In July, it had a nine-day supply, while the industry generally considers a 55- to 60-day supply healthy.
For other models the supply situation is even worse. Toyota Motor Corp. has enough Yaris subcompacts to last 175 days. Chrysler LLC has a 205-day supply of the Dodge Caliber. And Chevrolet dealers have 427 days' worth of Aveo subcompacts. At the current sales rate, General Motors Corp. could stop making the Aveo and it wouldn't run out until May 24, 2010.
"I don't think Americans really like small cars," said Beau Boeckmann, whose family's Galpin Ford in southern California is the country's largest Ford dealer. "They drive them when they think they have to, when gas prices are high. But we're big people and we like big cars."
The logjam of small cars is caused in part by the recession, which has sapped sales of all types of vehicles. But it also underscores how badly gasoline prices have whipsawed the industry
It's a CRV color only.
Are oyu thinking of Galaxy Grey? It's pretty close.
Are you talking about a 2009? There should be lots of them out there.
I just remembered that Urban Titanium IS available on 2009 Civics! My bad!
For some reason it doesn't sell well at all on Civics but it's a high demand color on CRV's!
Go figure?
I paid the Out-The-Door price $16,682 [Sale price $15,738+$472 tax (3%) +$398 documentation fee+$74 tag, including everything] for this 2009 Honda Civic LX sedan with automatic transmission. The LX-S will be $600 more according to the dealer's offer
My buying experience with the Cary Honda dealer was interesting. I had brought in an Internet price quote for them to match (they had a big sign up saying that they'll match any Honda dealer's price), and they refused to match it! Claimed the car color I wanted wasn't in stock at the other dealer. Well, after offering me their "best" price, they let me walk out the door. By the time I got home, the dealer had called back and agreed to match the price quote. :shades:
2009 Civic EX 4dr Auto
Sale price $16,893 + $845 tax (5%) + $299 Admin/Doc fee + $86 tag
Congratulation on your CIVIC negotiation.
A Civic EX for under $17000 sounds like an amazing deal. Could you please say what dealer it was, if there was anything "unusual" about it (e.g. a one time special), and if any other Massachusetts dealers came close to that price.
thank you
