Yup, sorry forgot to mention the financing portion. I financed 10K and paid the rest off cash. I got the 2.9% financing that Honda is offering thru March 2nd for 36 months, so about $297 / month, and about $400 + in finance charges. I plan to pay it off quickly, so I may not be too much of a moneymaker for them
Hope that helps!
Price: 15,925
DMV: 190
Tax: 1,393
OTD: 17,508
I used email to get the deal, had the check when I walked on the lot. Handed it over drove away in the car. No hassle, haggle , sales pitch except for an alarm they pre-installed and tried to sell for 495. No way.
All in all painless.
Now if you want to hear the tale of 4 used cars with clean car fax reports that all had been in accidents (mechanics inspection), 2 on Honda dealer lots, certified pre-owned...no disclosure. You know why I went and bought new.
What will be best price ?
09 Honda Civic Sedan LX auto
MSRP :$18,155
Your Price: $15,927
Savings of about : $2,200
Plus freight,taxes and fees
For an out door price of $17,582 (Virginia has a 3% sales tax on new cars)
That would probably be a good price. I got my EX from the same dealer and it was a pretty good price.
I see that there is currently $750 cash to dealer. How does that factor in to exactly what they are paying for the car? They pay Invoice - $750? And who is raking it in with the destination fee?
It seems like You have got yourself an awsome deal. I cannot even come close to that price. Can you please tell us which dealership You bought your car from and if you can tell us how did you end up at that price. I mean if you can tell us how the negotiations started and what did you offer.
Congratulations on your new ride.
Thankyou
Is this a good price?
Anyway, out-the-door is $21,559 incl. $150 doc fee and sales tax. It also includes $100 for mud guards (which I requested). Financing: I got a 4% rate through my credit union, where Honda can offer 3.9% for a 4-year loan, so I'll give my credit union the business instead.
Is it a good price? Not yet. The price you're at seems close to what people are paying for EX-L with Navi!
As a reference, I got the same car, same color, mud guards, $20,750, OTD on 1/14/09 and I know I could have saved $100-$300 more had I waited another week. Financing shouldn't play into the purchase price, so I'm not sure why that's mentioned.
It's out there, go find it.
I purchased my Honda at Jim Coleman Honda in Clarksville, MD. I was very pleased with this dealership, very professional, efficient, and great experience overall. I highly recommend them. I negotiated via email and got the price I wanted from a dealership in Virginia. I contacted Jim Coleman and they agreed to beat my best price by $100.00. I walked in with my email offer from another dealer; and about 1.5 hours later, I left with my new car. I bought in February, when Honda was only offering $500 in marketing support; they are now offering $750. So, I imagine you might be able to get even a better deal now. Oh, and I started my negotations late in the month, not too late, but the third week, and purchased that Friday of the third week of the month. Not sure if that helped in my dealings.
I will try to get the best price following your directions and will let everybody know what I can get. I may wait till the end of the month to get the best deal.
Thankyou for your help.
2. MSRP 22,575
3. Invoice ???
4. Paid 20,200 + TTL (Northern Cali)
5. Financed at 2.9% for 36 months

6% Sales Tax = $1,141.13
Tag & Title = $247.18

OTD = $20,511.48
Does anyone know the typical pricing for Tag & Titling in Maryland?
I traded a few emails on Monday with the Livermore Internet Sales guy who was very polite and responsive. Picked up the car a few hours later. As I mentioned, he had everything ready for me when I arrived. I highly recommend working with Livermore. It's only a 30 minute drive from Fremont. Let's vote with our dollars for car dealerships that are respectful towards their customers.
Any more suggestion in make purchase .
Rudolph Honda: Everything went as normal, we were negotiating the final price and he was willing to beat the price (before TT&L) of another dealeship; btw they had already sent me the TT&L breakdown. I was about to commit and asked the final price. Finally after 2 attempts where they pretended they didn't understand my request, they sent me the total price. It was 200 dlls more expensive than the other guys' offer. I confronted the sales manager and showed him the TT&L amount he had sent me, and proved him it didn't make sense and I wasn't saving any $ but paying 200+...his email replay was "Thank you for your interest, if you change your mind give us a call" beware of this dealership.
Jack Key Honda: Great attitude from the sales guy, honest and w/o gimmicks, only problem is that it's 100 miles away from El Paso and didn't beat El Paso Honda's lowest price.
Honda Borman Autoplex: inexperienced salesman (he didn't know that the Si needs premium gas), pushy, disrespectful and obnoxious manager. He was more interested on talking and pushing the sale than listening to the customer. Offered $500 dollars trade-in for my car that according to Blue Book is valued at $5000. When I was on my way out he literally threw his business card on his desk and told me to give him a call if I changed my mind. beware of this dealership.
El Paso Honda: Great internet sales manager, John Hummels, honest and straight forward, if he cannot match the offer he doesn't beat around the bush and tells you. I'm buying my LX-S from them.
MSRP $20,775
paid $17,775 +TT&L
We had a similiar offer for a 2009 Corolla but my daughter loved the two tier dash in the Civic. We showed the Honda dealer the Toyota dealer's offer (they are practically next door to each other) and told him we would buy the Corolla if he couldn"t match the $3,000 off like the Toyota dealer.
We also got the 3.9 financing for 60 months (that expires at the end of March)
$19,000 for 3 years @ 2.9% = $551.71/mo

I'm looking to buy an 09 Civic LX and will need financing... I've read over & over that arrange for your own financing before you walk-in, don't tie it into the price of the car, etc.
That makes sense to me, so I looked online for financing. In the current market, I'm able to get outside financing at about 7%. No where close to the 2.9% & 3.9% that Honda Finance has to offer.
So given that I'm interested in the Honda Finance offer, is it a good idea to get myself pre-approved from the Honda Finance website, or should I involve the Honda dealer in this?
I mean, is there any advantage in getting approved in advance by Honda Finance? Or should I leave it to the dealer and maybe he makes a few hundred dollars from the referral? And can I usually use this to my advantage in the price negotiations?
Thanks in advance for any replies, I would appreciate a quick response, I might be buying a car over the weekend...

In order to take advantage of the 2.9/3.9 financing (which expires at the end of the month) you have to have excellent credit, so it doesn't apply to everyone. I printed a certificate available at Honda.com and presented it to the dealer's F&I guy. He stared at it like it was a naked picture of Michelle OBama and declared he wasn't aware of any finance offers from American Honda Finance Co. (which I find really hard to believe). He disappeared for awhile then I saw him talking to the sales manager and the salesman who sold me the car. 45 minutes later he told me I got the desired financing at 3.9 for 60 months.
I kind of got the feeling if I didn't have the certificate with me I wouldn't have gotten the financing deal. Just make sure you print that certificate and take it with you to the dealer.
Good luck.
Thanks!
As I'm sure you know, one of the supposed advantages of pre-arranged outside financing is that you can approach the dealer with a "cash" offer. However, you're correct that finding a better deal outside Honda Finance's 2.9/3.9 offer is next to impossible. If you are certain you'll qualify, don't sweat it. When I purchased my Civic, I simply told the sales person that, based on my credit, I expected to qualify for Honda's lowest rate (2.9 for 36 months, at the time); and if I didn't, I wouldn't be buying. I didn't have any problem at all.
Go to the Honda website and request quotes from multiple dealerships saying you want their bottom line best price(I did this and the second lowest quote was 17,100 from Honda of Boston(in Everett). I did my quote from Atamian on their website. They totally honored the quote and there was NO haggling. The sales person I dealt with was Jamie Gitshier and he was great. It dos not look like a mall when you go in there(the building is older), so I assume that is probably why they can offer low prices. Good luck!
just got civic sedan lx-s at boch in norwood for 16500. i got the same quote from atamian that u did and boch said what price will make it happen right now. i am very pleased. thanks for your help
The price of the car was about $17,900 after TX taxes and tags I was at about $19,200 OTD.
El Paso Honda wanted $20k OTD and figured me stupid for a savvy internet buyer, I had offered $19,3 OTD to Rudolph Honda they were hesitant and I could tell it was going to take all day to get them there.
I know people have been pleased paying about $18k (just the car, sans TT&L) and people from states with similar tax to TX were happy with $19,500 OTD, so having got it for $300 less than that I am very happy with my purchase. The best part was that Borman offered me that price and I took it that day. It was a nice drive up, the drive back gave me a chance to break it in.
The other dealers had straight up LIED about Borman, I was in and out in about an hour and a half. If you live in El Paso, its worth it to go up there.
I did not try Jack Key Motors, I figured 3 was enough to get me a good deal.
Anyway, a quick phone call back to Hopkins Honda and they had a suitable vehicle in stock and they were willing to go to $19,400 (which was as low as I had gotten them via e-mail, anyway). After a little bit of haggling on-site, got them to throw in the trunk mat, splash guards, and wheel locks for the $19,400 price. Overall, a much better experience with much less jerking around. After the fact, the Internet sales guy at Hopkins mentioned that he's had a number of customers attempt to go to South Bay Honda in search of a better deal, but they often return because of similar tactics employed by South Bay. Not sure if he was just trying to fuel the fire at that point, but I certainly believe it ...
I've been working with several dealerships in the Dallas area but I can't get a feel for their "bottom".
Also, do you think it's better to wait until the end of the month to purchase?
This would be a cash sale too, any advice?
The only differences between them are:
1) Black interior
2) Chromed muffler
3) Alloy rims
4) A little spoiler in the back
P.S. I would advise to all of you to do a search on Edmunds, yahoo locals and other forums for dealerships reviews. I was amazed that some of those reviews actually matched my own experiences.
