I am in Texas too, and thinking about purchasing two LX-S's for my wife and myself. Where in Texas are you? Which dealer quoted 16,500 after destination fee? As far as mandatory add-ons, that is BS. All you need to do is a get a quote for that price on the vehicle and have a different dealer that doesn't require the add-ons to match the price. In Houston, where I'm at, there are a couple dealers that do that crap, just look around, not all of them do. And for tint I would ask them to negotiate on their price. Since you can go pay 150-180 out in town I wouldn't want to pay more than 199 since it allows you to include it in the loan.

I am in Houston too. The price is from Sterling McCall Honda of Kingwood. Hopefully when I come by to sign the deal the price will not change.

Do you know if my FICO score and money factor sound real?

Just bought a 2010 Honda Civic LX Coupe from St. Louis for $16k (incl. destination fee). I think I received a pretty good deal. Good experience at the dealer (a bit slow though) and had to deal with the hard sell for the extended warranty. This was a pretty simple transaction.

I bought a CRV at another dealer in St. Louis. I first went to them but they refused to deal. They wouldn't drop the price $200 to match my offer. I was a bit taken back by this as this would be two car purchases from the same dealer within 3 weeks and they couldn't come down $200 more? Whatever. Now they are complaining about the responses I provided to the Honda surveys. I am not sure I'd consider purchasing from them in the future.

Thanks to all posters on this forum. There is a great information that helped me get what I believe is a good deal on my Civic.

I don't know how this compares to the EX deals listed here but I picked up an EX for $17,900 plus T+L today. My OTD price was $19,861 (includes NJ sales tax of 7%). My deal included 3 yrs of free oil changes. I was happy since I did better than my AMEX car purchase program which suggested I pay $18,215 plus T+L. Good luck to you all on your Civic EX purchase. :)

Just received an internet price quote in Illinois: with tax rate of (7.25 - 7.5)
for 2010 Honda Civic EX 4 door automatic sedan.

    Sale price: $ 17,613 OTD: $ 19,298

It includes $1,000 cash back currently offered. Should I jump on this price???

Northern or Southern Illinois? If cn Southern Illinois around St. Louis, I'd recommend going to Missouri and checking with them before you close the deal. Also, I'd try and get the dealer to include the holdback in the price.
  • ruthie2ruthie2 Member Posts: 15
I paid $18,900 for my Honda Civic EX AT ( $2000 off sticker price Or TMV price + got 1.9% financing, wheel locks and mudguards thrown in.) I was happy with the deal cause I got what I wanted on my trade-in. It's a beautiful car and drives perfectly. Purchased in Central Wisconsin. There was NO pressure from this dealer to but any thing else.

Thanks cs1559 and ruthie2 your replies.

    I got the dealer to quote $ 17,470 with OTD $ 19,200.
This is in Northern Illinois close to Chicago.

If we are return customers to this dealership, how much more discount should we look for?? Thanks again

Hi Ruthie2. I am in the Minneapolis area, and was wondering what Wisconsin Honda Dealer gave you that quote of $18,900. Best I have done here is around $19,990 OTD for a 2010 Honda Civic Ex Auto. Thank You.

Bought new Civic in MD. Quoted about $13,900 with an OTD price of $16,300 with taxes (6%), destination, title, tags, etc. Included in the OTD price is some add-ons I didn't particularly want. The dealer claimed that they didn't have any clean Civics without the add-ons in the color I wanted (I'm thinking the dealer add-ons added about $100 to $200 to the price - something like door or splash guards or some such). The price was good enough that I didn't blink too much at the extras.

Can you tell me what dealer you bought your car from? I am looking for an Civic LX sedan in MD and haven't found a deal that good! Thanks

Do most people simply email the Honda dealers in their area for OTD price quotes for the model desired?
  • technoztechnoz Member Posts: 34
Yes. What I like to do is open a new email account just for quotes..That way you don't spam your regular inbox.
  • civictorycivictory Member Posts: 73
Yes, many people use email to secure quotes. However, be forewarned that it's not a "clean" process... You'll get a variety of responses. My experience has been that true OTD quotes via email are somewhat rare. Some dealers will just tell you that they'll beat the lowest quote you get; some will give you a quote, only to tell you later that the quote didn't include everything; etc.

I actually use the process to weed out dealers I don't want to deal with. If they are unwilling to provide me with a simple, honest OTD quote, then I'm unwilling to do business with them. (And yes, that probably means I sometimes pay slightly more...)
  • ruthie2ruthie2 Member Posts: 15
I used email quotes for the purchase of my last two autos, yes it does weed out the dealers that don't want your business. You still need to make sure all is included in the quote ....you have to watch the numbers carefully.
  • cc475cc475 Member Posts: 7
Thanks a lot for the help!

I guess I will send out several emails (using my secondary email account) and see who the serious dealers are.

I am looking for an LX-S (white, 4 door, auto). It is (apparently) the "dealer add-ons" that cause the problem.

Anyone care to tell me the "don't miss" options are for the LX-S? :)

I see from Consumer Reports that the $1000 dealer incentive has been extended through May 31 and the 1.9% financing through June 30. Does anyone know if
dealers will give both the discount plus the low financing?
  • cs1559cs1559 Member Posts: 7
I received both in my deal for a Honda Civic LX. We closed the deal about 2 weeks ago. I also received the holdback.
  • steve_rbtssteve_rbts Member Posts: 17
CR is suggesting a starting offer price of $16300 on the LX. How did you do?
  • cs1559cs1559 Member Posts: 7

I could only get them down to $16k (incl. destination, splash guards, mats, etc.). I had been negotiating with a different dealer in STL but they'd only go to $16350 - so I went elsewhere. I figured it was a pretty good deal based on some of the prices I had seen others were paying ($15900-16500). I did see a post on this forum where someone picked one up for $15100.
  • steve_rbtssteve_rbts Member Posts: 17
I think that sounds like a fair deal. I believe I would jump on that
    if I can get it.
  • steve_rbtssteve_rbts Member Posts: 17
I received a quote yesterday of $15,500 plus tax, title and fees for
an OTD price of $16,400. That's the best offer I've had so far.

So I received a quote from Spreen Honda in Southern CA and this is what they sent:

Quote: $15,436 then add 11% for tax & fees: $17,133 (which is a great deal, right?)

But if you finance through Honda for 1.9%, then they said that you need to add $1,500 onto the price of the car -- WTH? So instead of $17,133, the price is $18,633 OTD (that's ridiculous).

    I'll keep looking, thanks!

And it's like pulling teeth to get dealers to send a break down of all the fees and out the door price.
  • cs1559cs1559 Member Posts: 7
Wow ... 11% tax? I picked my LX up for $16k (some are getting it better than I did - congrats to them) and received the 1.9% financing. pretty smooth transaction other than the finance manager pushing the xtended warranty for $1500. We discussed all of the fees/numbers over the phone and there were no suprises.

Adding on the $1500 because of financing is nuts.
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
He just said tax & fees were about 11% (our tax is really 9.75% and he didn't want to break out the fees) -- but when i see people on here leaving with a deal of $16,400, I know that anything over $17,000 isn't going to cut it (especially for me).

Just bought a new Civic LX (auto) from Boch Honda in Norwood, Ma. for $15600 on 5/14. Overall a very good experience, did it all via e-mail. They're delivering it to me (free) on Monday in NH. They deliver free in New England.

I bought 2010 Civic (LX, 4-door, auto, white, no add-on) from Spreen Honda in California on 5/02/10. I hope the following details to be useful for people on the market.

    selling price:$14,935
    tax: $1,311
    doc fee : $55
    license: $171
    registration: $87
    tire fee: $9
    TOTAL: $16,568

I negotiated and clarified the details of price and financing over several emails. To my surprise and dismay, the 60 months APR has increased from 1.9% to 2.9%, when I visited the dealer for signing the contract on 5/02/10. With my reasoning immobilized by such surprise, I signed the contract.

Thanks for the post regarding your purchase of the LX!

Please tell me what kind of "add-ons" you were referring to in your post? I want to make sure I am aware of what this amounts to. :)
  • newhonda10newhonda10 Member Posts: 2
This is the first quote that I received, what do you think?
    $16,398 including destination
    $1,024.88 sales tax @6.25%
    $125 registration
    $299 DOC
    $99 Wheel locks

I am not sure about the wheel locks add on?

This is great to know. I was going to look into them for my new Civic EX. That is incredible that they deliver! Thanks for the info. Congrats on the new car.

    Hi,

I'm a first time buyer with zero credit score. I've have got quotes from many dealers and by far this the lowest offer from a honda dealer in Hayward. I'm not sure if it is best one

Total OTD price of the Honda Civic LX car is 17988 (tax license + DMV etc)

The APR for 60 months is 9.29%. Monthly payment is coming at 325$

Does anybody know what the best deal should be in my case?

    Kindly suggest :)

    Greetings:

It is my goal to close a deal and purchase a 2010 Honda Civic LX (A5) Sedan, with a crystal black pearl exterior and a gray interior, in the Norfolk, Virginia area, by the end of the month (May 31, 2010).

I am hoping to pay cash (check) for the entire purchase. I am able to do this because I just got approved for social security disability (SSDI) and received a back award which would enable me to do so.

Some car buying experts seem to advise against this. However, my fight for SSDI benefits was a 5 year long fight which forced me to live in poverty during this time. As a result, my credit rating was destroyed.

I suppose I could put $12,000 down and finance the rest through the dealer, if I can get a reasonable rate. This might help me to raise my credit rating. However, I really would prefer not to have a car payment.

For a trade in, I have a 1998 Ford Escort with 150,000 miles, and which is barely on life support. I am figuring that maybe I can get $200 for it.

I do not want any "extras." None.

I have the buying guide for Consumer Reports on this car, so I know where I should start negotiating, which is $16,298, according to this report.

What I am looking for is a fair bottom line price, for both the dealer and myself, one which would include everything, including the taxes, title, and anything else which might be required by the DMV.

Once we reach a binding agreement, I just want to scratch out one check and drive away with the car in my name, if this is possible.

On a side note, I have discovered that one loca Honda dealership tries to charge for the destination charge ($710) twice, which is already supposed to be a part of the Total MSRP, but which also tries to charge you for it again in the "fine print." Is this a common practice?

In addition, they list their "Base MSRP" as $19,115, which is what Consumer Reports says is their "Total MSRP."

I am also aware of the $1,000 Dealer Incentive and the Dealer Holdback.

In any event, I am wondering what some of you would consider paying for this car (in cash), if you were in my shoes, given the circumstances and conditions I have described.

Do you think I can write a check for $17,000 or less and drive away with geting everything required, including the taxes (3% in Virginia) and all the other DMV stuff? Or would I likely have to pay more?

Any and all ideas and suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Dennis

Based on my research so far and some of the quotes I read on this forum. I beleive anything between 16500-17K sounds like a fair deal to me.

I'm trying to negotiate on 17988 to bring it down to below 17k or equal to 17k

    Hi, co475,
By "add-on", I meant accessories (i.e. spoiler, splash guard, wheel locks, or exhaust finisher) occasionally added by dealers (arguably to increase the price and profits).

I wanted all season floor mats and cargo net for which I asked the dealer if he can offer discounts. He appeared to try to obtain a permission from his superior to no avail. He described that the full price for accessories should be paid given the car deal they offer.

Just picked up a Royal Blue Pearl/Black Civic LX-S at Sam Linder Honda in Salinas, CA yesterday.

    Car + Destination: $17800
Came with the silly trunk mat and mud guards 'upgrade'.

Then my wife got talked into the 'Karr' alarm+$500

with Tax, License, Doc OTD: $20081.84

    -$2k down, $1500 trade-in, 1.9%/60mo= $295.57/mo

I feel like we got a great deal, though we had to walk out once on them and participate in what I like to call "Car Salesman/Sales Manager Theater". Maybe could have done without the 'Karr" alarm, but overall we're super happy about our price.

hi Dennis, Fair price would be $16800-17000 OTD. I am also in the market for a Honda civic LX and will close the deal in a week. I am in PA. I am posting this price after a lot of research..enjoy ur car..
  • johnnybcarjohnnybcar Member Posts: 6
Sam Linder is a pretty good dealership. The prices are reasonable I think until you get to that finance manager. They tend to want to tack on everything. I picked up a Civic Hybrid from them in Salinas a few years back. Felt good about the price until they suckered me into the Karr alarm and that special paint job.

Anyway, the service is pretty good. Hope you enjoy your new car!

    Hi All,

After a lot of research in bay area I bought Honda civic lx(2010 - RED) in 16775.75 (OTD). It is the best offer that I got from (Anderson Honda (Palo Alto)). They only had two cars with this price and rest were in 17k OTD

Since I was the first time buyer they gave me a 9.29% APR(after negotiation it initially started from 10.50% something) for 60 months. Here is the breakdown of price

    Car Price: 14988
    Doc Fee: 55
    Tax: 1466.69 (alameda county)
    License Fees: 171
    Registration Fee: 67
    California Tire fee: 8.75
    Smog Fee : 20.00
    Total: 16775.75

Although, the FI manager convinced to buy the Honda Care for 6 Years and that increased my installment to 335.17(another 20 bugs). But I realized after talking to few of my friends and family that its really not needed for a brand new car. We can always take the Honda care later may be after 3 years or something why to pay 1200$ for it now when your car already has a warranty for 3 years.

But, they would definitely wash you brain to buy it and same what happed with me. Finally, I got it cancelled it today. The additional amount that I was paying for honda care will be adjusted to the principal amount of my car loan. Hence, the loan will finish few months(2-3) before the actual 60 months term.

I hope this information helps individuals seeking to buy Honda Civic.

I love the car very much!! :)
