Do you know if my FICO score and money factor sound real?
I bought a CRV at another dealer in St. Louis. I first went to them but they refused to deal. They wouldn't drop the price $200 to match my offer. I was a bit taken back by this as this would be two car purchases from the same dealer within 3 weeks and they couldn't come down $200 more? Whatever. Now they are complaining about the responses I provided to the Honda surveys. I am not sure I'd consider purchasing from them in the future.
Thanks to all posters on this forum. There is a great information that helped me get what I believe is a good deal on my Civic.
for 2010 Honda Civic EX 4 door automatic sedan.
Sale price: $ 17,613 OTD: $ 19,298
It includes $1,000 cash back currently offered. Should I jump on this price???
I got the dealer to quote $ 17,470 with OTD $ 19,200.
This is in Northern Illinois close to Chicago.
If we are return customers to this dealership, how much more discount should we look for?? Thanks again
I actually use the process to weed out dealers I don't want to deal with. If they are unwilling to provide me with a simple, honest OTD quote, then I'm unwilling to do business with them. (And yes, that probably means I sometimes pay slightly more...)
I guess I will send out several emails (using my secondary email account) and see who the serious dealers are.
I am looking for an LX-S (white, 4 door, auto). It is (apparently) the "dealer add-ons" that cause the problem.
Anyone care to tell me the "don't miss" options are for the LX-S?
dealers will give both the discount plus the low financing?
if I can get it.
an OTD price of $16,400. That's the best offer I've had so far.

Quote: $15,436 then add 11% for tax & fees: $17,133 (which is a great deal, right?)
But if you finance through Honda for 1.9%, then they said that you need to add $1,500 onto the price of the car -- WTH? So instead of $17,133, the price is $18,633 OTD (that's ridiculous).
I'll keep looking, thanks!
And it's like pulling teeth to get dealers to send a break down of all the fees and out the door price.
Adding on the $1500 because of financing is nuts.
selling price:$14,935
tax: $1,311
doc fee : $55
license: $171
registration: $87
tire fee: $9
TOTAL: $16,568
I negotiated and clarified the details of price and financing over several emails. To my surprise and dismay, the 60 months APR has increased from 1.9% to 2.9%, when I visited the dealer for signing the contract on 5/02/10. With my reasoning immobilized by such surprise, I signed the contract.
Please tell me what kind of "add-ons" you were referring to in your post? I want to make sure I am aware of what this amounts to.
$16,398 including destination
$1,024.88 sales tax @6.25%
$125 registration
$299 DOC
$99 Wheel locks
I am not sure about the wheel locks add on?
I'm a first time buyer with zero credit score. I've have got quotes from many dealers and by far this the lowest offer from a honda dealer in Hayward. I'm not sure if it is best one
Total OTD price of the Honda Civic LX car is 17988 (tax license + DMV etc)
The APR for 60 months is 9.29%. Monthly payment is coming at 325$
Does anybody know what the best deal should be in my case?
Kindly suggest

It is my goal to close a deal and purchase a 2010 Honda Civic LX (A5) Sedan, with a crystal black pearl exterior and a gray interior, in the Norfolk, Virginia area, by the end of the month (May 31, 2010).
I am hoping to pay cash (check) for the entire purchase. I am able to do this because I just got approved for social security disability (SSDI) and received a back award which would enable me to do so.
Some car buying experts seem to advise against this. However, my fight for SSDI benefits was a 5 year long fight which forced me to live in poverty during this time. As a result, my credit rating was destroyed.
I suppose I could put $12,000 down and finance the rest through the dealer, if I can get a reasonable rate. This might help me to raise my credit rating. However, I really would prefer not to have a car payment.
For a trade in, I have a 1998 Ford Escort with 150,000 miles, and which is barely on life support. I am figuring that maybe I can get $200 for it.
I do not want any "extras." None.
I have the buying guide for Consumer Reports on this car, so I know where I should start negotiating, which is $16,298, according to this report.
What I am looking for is a fair bottom line price, for both the dealer and myself, one which would include everything, including the taxes, title, and anything else which might be required by the DMV.
Once we reach a binding agreement, I just want to scratch out one check and drive away with the car in my name, if this is possible.
On a side note, I have discovered that one loca Honda dealership tries to charge for the destination charge ($710) twice, which is already supposed to be a part of the Total MSRP, but which also tries to charge you for it again in the "fine print." Is this a common practice?
In addition, they list their "Base MSRP" as $19,115, which is what Consumer Reports says is their "Total MSRP."
I am also aware of the $1,000 Dealer Incentive and the Dealer Holdback.
In any event, I am wondering what some of you would consider paying for this car (in cash), if you were in my shoes, given the circumstances and conditions I have described.
Do you think I can write a check for $17,000 or less and drive away with geting everything required, including the taxes (3% in Virginia) and all the other DMV stuff? Or would I likely have to pay more?
Any and all ideas and suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Dennis
I'm trying to negotiate on 17988 to bring it down to below 17k or equal to 17k

Hi, co475,
By "add-on", I meant accessories (i.e. spoiler, splash guard, wheel locks, or exhaust finisher) occasionally added by dealers (arguably to increase the price and profits).
I wanted all season floor mats and cargo net for which I asked the dealer if he can offer discounts. He appeared to try to obtain a permission from his superior to no avail. He described that the full price for accessories should be paid given the car deal they offer.
Honda Civic EX Sedan
17499 Including Delivery and Dealer Upgrades
19505.75 OTD
Car + Destination: $17800
Came with the silly trunk mat and mud guards 'upgrade'.
Then my wife got talked into the 'Karr' alarm+$500
with Tax, License, Doc OTD: $20081.84
-$2k down, $1500 trade-in, 1.9%/60mo= $295.57/mo
I feel like we got a great deal, though we had to walk out once on them and participate in what I like to call "Car Salesman/Sales Manager Theater". Maybe could have done without the 'Karr" alarm, but overall we're super happy about our price.
Anyway, the service is pretty good. Hope you enjoy your new car!
I am in the market for a civic LX as well. Would you please let me know when you bought your civic and whether your model is civic LX.
Any additional information will be highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

After a lot of research in bay area I bought Honda civic lx(2010 - RED) in 16775.75 (OTD). It is the best offer that I got from (Anderson Honda (Palo Alto)). They only had two cars with this price and rest were in 17k OTD
Since I was the first time buyer they gave me a 9.29% APR(after negotiation it initially started from 10.50% something) for 60 months. Here is the breakdown of price
Car Price: 14988
Doc Fee: 55
Tax: 1466.69 (alameda county)
License Fees: 171
Registration Fee: 67
California Tire fee: 8.75
Smog Fee : 20.00
Total: 16775.75
Although, the FI manager convinced to buy the Honda Care for 6 Years and that increased my installment to 335.17(another 20 bugs). But I realized after talking to few of my friends and family that its really not needed for a brand new car. We can always take the Honda care later may be after 3 years or something why to pay 1200$ for it now when your car already has a warranty for 3 years.
But, they would definitely wash you brain to buy it and same what happed with me. Finally, I got it cancelled it today. The additional amount that I was paying for honda care will be adjusted to the principal amount of my car loan. Hence, the loan will finish few months(2-3) before the actual 60 months term.
I hope this information helps individuals seeking to buy Honda Civic.
I love the car very much!!
