as the clearance is going on, does anyone get the price lower than 17800 at Indiana.

You could do at least $400 better by going to either Dayton or Columbus, Ohio. Please see my posting #1675.
  • keycardkeycard Member Posts: 26
Not sure about Indiana--but out here in the SF area it is going for $15,700...(Taxes--titles and docs not included)

Did you have a trade-in? Is the auto market that depressed that a dealer will give up a Honda at $1000 under invoice?

Just wondering if the dealer gave you any insight in that regard.
  • keycardkeycard Member Posts: 26
Yes Auto--the basic package (moonroof + Cd---all the basic goodies-ABS, Air etc..)--as for the LX..I have no idea, since the wife wanted the Moonroof...hehe..

No trade in, I was getting anywhere from $15,800-$16200 on internet quotes. What I did was requested quotes from them over the net the last few days of the month. And then called each dealer telling them so and so is offering it to me at this price...etc.. There aren't many different options (Which is good when it comes to $$ dealing) on the Civic EX. But got it for $15,700 at the end. Good luck..

I didn't get the Wheel Locks or mud guards etc..that some people got from the dealer..but it wasn't something I was really looking into.

Wife and I are heading out tomorrow to pick up a Coupe EX SE AUTO, provided our trade in goes well.

Base is 16800 and OTD cost is 17671. Just got an email today stating they would knock off another 100.00 due to the clearance. Sorta nice as I had already stated the 17671 seemed fair and was already scheduled to come in.

The same email also offered a Coupe EX for 15890 base. So now we are trying to decide it its worth spending a bit extra for the goodies that come with the SE.

Both vehicles come with all the mats, guards, wheel locks, etc. So overall I think we are getting a good deal on either car.

I got the response from Hidy. They give me the price is much higher than yours. They told me that was a one of type sale. What’s it mean? :confuse:

They had very few Civic EX sedans in stock at the time I purchased mine. In fact, they had to make a trade with another dealer in order to get the color I wanted. Maybe I was just lucky to get the $1,000 under invoice price.

The only thing I can suggest is to send e-mails out to all the Honda dealers within a few hours drive of where you are located in Indiana. Tell them the best price you have been offered so far, and ask them to beat that price. Also, you may get better prices by waiting until the last few days of the month. Let us know how it turns out.
  • poppypoppypoppypoppy Member Posts: 12
Thank you so much. You were really luck. If the dealer has no the specific color in stock, he would ask additional money for getting this color.

I have gotten the internet quote from them. I am just waiting for a good bid. Hope I have the same fortune as yours. :P

Hi. I'm new to this message board and am looking for some guidance regarding the purchase of a new honda civic. I am interested in the best pricing I can expect to get buying the new Civic EX SE. I live in Ft. Worth Tx and will be buying anytime from now until the end of the year. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I will buy my first car. So I have some questions that may be a piece of cake for you.

    1. How can I take it back? Do they provide a temporary driving plate?
    2. Do they provide a temporary insurance as what provided by rental company?

    I appreciate your responses

My husband and I will buy a 2005 Honda Civic EX in the next month -- perhaps even next weekend. This is pretty much our first time ever buying a new car. We’ve been reading all we can on Edmunds and other places, and feel much more educated, and confident we can get a fair deal. But I still have some questions:

About getting price quotes -- we do prefer NOT to spend hours in the dealerships with someone pushy. I’m planning to call around for competitive price quotes from the Honda fleet managers in my area. How close to invoice can we even expect to get? If it’s the end of the month, and it’s July, so supposedly the clearance is “on” or coming soon to make way for 2006 models.

Base Invoice is listed as $16,732 on Edmunds. Is that a real, official number that I can trust is the same for every dealership?

    Destination Fee is $515

    Total is $17,247

There’a a regional adjustment of +$107 as well.

There’s a manufacturer to dealer incentive of $400 for “Marketing Support.”

I guess I’m wonderin how to approach the fleet manager. Do I just say -- how close to invoice can you come? Can I ask that the $400 incentive be passed onto me? If I have to give a number, what number do I start with given the above information?

I don't really understand how they can even go below invoice sometimes -- rebates and stuff?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You should be able to get a 2005 for well below invoice. I just got an EX SE for about $1100 below invoice. Depending on the local market, you may not be able to get such a large discount - I live in a very competitive area for the dealers - but you should be able to get below invoice. Remember that in addition to the $400 marketing support, dealers get about 3% "holdback" from the manufacturers as well. Right now dealers are scrambling to clear out their inventories of 2005 Civics because once the redesigned 2006 comes out, They'll have a really hard time selling the 2005s without large discounts. They're better off selling Civics at virtually no profit now than waiting until the fall and selling them for a loss.

One other thing to consider is availability. The longer you wait the less likely the dealers are to have what you want, and I don't think that they are getting any new 2005s anymore. I checked about a dozen dealers, and only one had the exact make and color that I wanted.

Good luck on your purchase, and be sure to let us all know how you do.

Hi, I think that is a good price. How did you get it? I live in PA, and I called several dealers, but seems difficult to get a price like yours.
  • akhtar1akhtar1 Member Posts: 22
Get on Hondas web-site and ask for quotes form the dealership in the area. I have two that have that price and one that is trying to beat it.
  • yangnonyangnon Member Posts: 6
Thanks for your reply. I got a quote at $14,426 plus tax and tags for the VP/AT in PA. It is over $1,000 expensive than yours. Do you think I could get a cheaper one than this? This is my first time to buy a car, really do not know how to haggle with those dealers, especially over internet. Thanks again.
  • akhtar1akhtar1 Member Posts: 22
May be u can drive down to VA and get yours.
  • keycardkeycard Member Posts: 26
Thanks for all the info--yes..It's true--go get yourself in a internet quote and starting dealing with the fleet mangers directly.

As for buying for under $1K under invoice--I was able to obtain that pricing, but someone else post above that they were able to get 1,100---arrrrr...It had around 35 miles on the car since the dealer I was working with didn't have the SIlver in stock and had to be traded with another dealer. I guess they are getting desperate to remove the 05.

Hi again everyone -- dpat, thanks for the reply the other day, and congrats on your great price. Significantly better than I found, but I seriously think my region is seriously overpriced.

So, I called 11 Honda dealerships today on my lunch hour. Invoice base price for the 2005 Civic EX Sedan with front airbags is $16,732. Add destination charge of $515, and you get $17,247.

I asked for the Internet Managers when I called, and most were busy or I assume at lunch. So I left a message asking whether they had the exact car I wanted in stock. Most of the dealerships returned my calls eagerly, but didn't have the color I wanted. Seems to be popular. 3 of them, however, did have it. One was $17,756, the next was $17,300, and the winner was $16,948.

Not bad for a first time buyer eh??!

It's near where I work, so I'm going to the dealer first thing in the morning, get the deal in writing, look at the car and make sure it doesn't have 5000 miles on it (haha), put a deposit on my Mastercard, and go back to work :)

Everyone cross your fingers that it ACTUALLY EXISTS. (Although I did confirm with the main guy, and then called again to double check and tell them I'm coming down there...)

    Will let ya know.
  • keycardkeycard Member Posts: 26
Yes..Having Quotes over the net helps a lot for most buyers. It just makes the fleet managers work against each other, benefiting the consumers at the end. Just be very careful when you approach the Fiance office--thats where they try to sell you Warranties + Alarms (My dealer wanted $300 for the alarm---and he keeps on saying his cost is $250.00---It is so funny, since I'm in sales also--why in the world would a salesperson tell me his real cost..So I got the alarm for $200 (Which I think is still overpriced, since on certain web sites they have it for around $140.00--but just not that technical myself when it comes to installation).

    Suggestion:
If you get a quote of $16,948 from one dealer---just call the other 3 or 4 dealers asking...Hey...I got a quote of $16,850 (I usually subtract a $100-----What can you do to earn my business? (Could be $$$, extras, etc...)

    Later,
    KC

I think someone posted the new 2006 pictures somewhere--it looked really ROUND--not my type..

Hello, everyone! I REALLY need your help with HONDA CIVIC LX 2005.
This is my first time buying a new car or going to a dealer. I have been doing research and I find new interesting things about cars/how to negotiate with dealer everyday. However, it is about time and I need to buy really soon.

I have been looking for NEW HONDA CIVIC LX 2005 4 door couple weeks and going to dealers. I sometimes think it is a good price then everytime I go to a dealer it does get cheaper and cheaper by a little. I just don't know when to stop~then I can't stop because it is getting cheaper... :(

I also understand the price can be different for every state and where you live. Well~ I live in Rochester, NY, which is western NY.

The price I got yesterday was $16235.$$ OTD.

I know it is a good price. BUT is it really good? can it get any lower? is it possible? Please, Let me know. I am getting very frustrated with my minumum knowledge...

    PLEASE HELP ME~~~

    firsttime3:

Usually the best price is available about an hour before closing time on the last day of the month (preferably the third month of the quarter). Dealers REALLY want to make their quotas.

I'd also add that if the weather is bad, and there are fewer customers in the showroom on that last day of the month because of the weather, the need to sell NOW becomes even stronger.

Of course, the pressure increases at the end of the model year, especially if there is a redesign imminent. That's the case with the 2005 Civics.

We've been pricing the Honda Civic LX (automatic) for a few weeks now. We're picking ours up tomorrow - price is $15,350 out the door from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, Virginia. This price is $1,000 lower than the next lowest price we were offered - even from our local dealership that we've bought from for years. When we told him the price Hendricks was offering, he couldn't believe it was for real and had to call them himself. He called us back a few minutes later to say he didn't know how they could sell it for that and told us to have a good trip!

    Good luck to you!

I received a quote, $1000.00 below invoice price from Wilsonvile Honda in Oregon for 2005 Civic EX AT. But no discount for Civic EX AT SSRS. $240.00 for security system.
I am looking for the one with Side Air bags.

prices you guys are getting. I apologize if I offended anyone before. I should 've said it in a nice way. They 've pulled the post (that very long one) if anyone is wondering what I 'm talking about..

I 've been on the Edmunds forums since their inception and was probably one of the first 100 people to visit their web site (in '94-'95?) and have never seen anyone get a new Civic for $1K or more below invoice except for the '01+ Si Hatchback (HB) which noone wants. I also don't even remember any marketing support or incentives on the regular Civic except again for the Focus look-alike Si HB.
I did some research and found what I had expected. Honda car sales are down accross the board in 2005 (truck sales are up). This hasn't happened to Honda in a decade and a half, so it now explains the $500 marketing support/incentive, and the $1K under invoice sales you guys reported.

Here are the #s from the official Corporate Honda media division web site. In June '05 Civic sales were down -7.2% as compared to June '04. Sales from Jan-June '05 are down a whopping -12.7% compared to the first 6mos in '04 last year! Total Honda car sales in North America are down -6.6%. SUV and truck sales are up 15% however.

So in light of these figures, I 'm not surprised at all the great discounts that can be had for a new '05 Civic. Go get 'em boys! :shades:

Since I already have an '01, I 'll wait till Jan-Feb. after a nice snow storm, like I usually do, and see if I can get the new generation Civic for invoice. I can't resist 1.8L and 140hp (for the '06). No will power :D
    '99 Integra GSR
    '06 Civic LX coupe
    '11 BMW 335i coupe xDrive

My husband and I bought a silver 4dr automatic civic LX (2005) for 14950 on June 30, Blane's advice about going on the last day of the month is sound advice, because they are under pressure to make their quotas. Also, I e-mailed many dealerships in the Chicagoland area and asked them to send me their no-haggle price. I printed up the best one and went with it. Many quotes were for 15660. The dealership we used (Schaumburg Honda in Schaumberg, IL) is a high volume dealership, so I am sure they get volume pricing that helped bring the price of the car down.

    Good luck.

edmunds lists civic vp around $14,000 as the invoice price. Once you add all the fees together (tax, destination, title, etc), what should the out the door price be in order for it to be a good price? do i try to get $14,000 + taxes + fees + destination = $15-16,000 out the door price? or do i want to deal it so the otd price is $14,000 or less? does vp have power locks and a/c? thanks in advance.
  • akhtar1akhtar1 Member Posts: 22
Like I said I have OTD (13425) which is $1250 below invoice. I am waiting till 31 of this month. I think if I call around that day I mind beat that. 14000 +TTL is very high right now. Then again I live in the DC area. You area might be different.
  • johnn8johnn8 Member Posts: 10
thanks for response. i'm slow at this since i'm a first time buyer and haven't gotten the math/terminology quite down yet. so basically, in terms of car deals, you want to get the otd price as below invoice price? the out of door price = cost of car + TTL + fees + destination charges. In your case, you got the OTD price as 13,425 while the invoice price was 14,675? Basically, the OTD price is how much you paid for car. There are no other hidden fees?

    ------
    some questions for other posters:

if you finance the car through deal (i.e. 2-5% APR), do they usually add on any loan fees? do you get taxed on monthly payments? during ur initial purchase, do they tax you for entire value of car or just the amount of down payment? thanks.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    johnn8,

Please realize that the "out the door" price that some people keep discussing, is meaningless. It is different in each part of the country because of different tax rates. You can't change or negotiate the destination charge on the window sticker. You can't change or negotiate your jurisdiction's taxes or motor vehicle bureau licensing and titling fees.

What you CAN do is your homework to determine the dealer's actual cost for the vehicle, then add a modest profit ($100 to $200?) to make an offer. They might try to tack on dealer fees, etc. Just tell them that you are ready to buy a car NOW from the dealer with the best price and if they want to lose your business, you can just go down the block or across town for a better deal. Start walking and see how much more anxious to make a sale they become.

According to Honda's website the VP has air conditioning, but you have to move up to the LX to get power locks (among many other features).

I just bought a Civic VP, coupe, auto for OTD = $14,350 (includes free floor mats) in Broward county, Florida. It is my first buying experience. What do you guys think?

Pompano Honda. I bought it yesterday, got $14,350 OTD, free floormats and 5.09% financing. I think I got a fair deal. To be completely honest, I think that if you are a better haggler than me (I am not that great at all), you can get $14,200 OTD easily. I had gotten another quote from Sherwood Honda, went in, and the guy would not go a penny lower than $14,600 OTD. You can also try Braman Honda. They gave me the best internet quote, but they do add alot of fees on top of that. Never got to hagle in Braman since the salesperson rubbed me the wrong way. Five minutes into the conversation the woman demanded that I give her my license so that she can make copies. When I asked if she could return the copies she made, she said she would not.
I am not sure if you are considering other vehicles, but I also test drove the corolla
(ce, auto, pwr door locks and cruise control) and I got a rock bottom price of $14,500 OTD (Al Hendrickson and King toyota).
Now between the civic and the corolla - in my opinion - the civic test drove better and is roomier in the leg area (not by much, but at 6'2" every little counts).
I hope this post was helpful. Let me know how things went for you.

Last Friday I bought EX SE (Black, Sedan, Auto) in $17058. I deposited $500 and dealer gave me a purchase contract because she did not have it in stock and promised me to locate it by Thursday. Today, I got a call from dealership that they could not find Black color and would like to give me EX in $450 less.
I am so confused and really don't know what to do now. I really wanted EX SE and Black is my wife's favorite color.
Do you guys think that all dealers are out of stock with SE(Black)? What should I do now? Please help...

    thanks!

Congratulations, that is a great price.

Can you tell me which dealer you used? Do they still have any more civic?? I live in PA, so I don't mind driving down to MD for a couple of thouands dollars of savings.

    Thanks,

    soman,

Try looking at it this way... Black cars look great when they are clean. It's hard to keep them looking that way. Much more so than with most other colors.
  • somansoman Member Posts: 3
Well, I have two choices- silver and Magnesium Metallic. Any idea which one suits better on this model?
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    soman,

Wow! That's an esthetic question that you should discuss with your wife.

Judging by this Honda Exterior Color chart, I'm slightly inclined towards the darker Magnesium Metallic, but both that and the Satin Silver Metallic look great.

Looking at cars on the lot at different times of day and evening might give you a better perspective.

you got a great deal! I am looking for Civic EX AT w/o SSRS in Portland area. could you tell me how you negotiate for this low pirce...
BTW, did you buy it or not?

    thx in advance.

    Thanks chetty2.
I am in Omaha(Nebraska). My dealer couldn't locate Black so I changed my mind and asked for Silver. He says that he found one and ordered for me which I should receive anytime next week.
I really don't know but in Midwest new car market is not competitive as in East/West coast. I had to negotiate hard to get $600 below invoice but other places people are able to get $1000 below invoice.

    Thanks!

"Black cars look great when they are clean. It's hard to keep them looking that way. Much more so than with most other colors."

That's funny, they say the same thing about white. And I'd bet the same thing about yellow. Then they say that red gets you stopped by cops more often.

Maybe go for that invisible color, can't miss there.
