Anyone have any recent experience with them? In Reseda, CA. They have my car (civic lx coupe)in my color, but they close soon, and it's far away since I don't have a car. He gave me the quote over the internet, and confirmed with me over the phone, but wouldn't take a deposit or give me a VIN # because he said they get upset about it on the lot- his quote is very low, matching a few other places. He said when I come in, then I can call my insurance agent and give them the VIN # and get all that squared away. But I definitely want the car, so if he wouldn't take a deposit from me over the phone, I'm a little weary. I'll be leaving really early tomorrow morning to get there at 9am, when they open, so this can be done with no issues. I'm just hoping that no one comes in buys the car in the next two hours- which is possible, or it could be something that's said to me when I get there, as some other people have had at dealerships.

Anyone specifically deal with the internet department recently and have a good experience? There are two guys in that department. Thanks for any info.

two dealers in CT are offering 19200 for civic 4 dr ex coupe, auto trans, (same MSRP for 4 dr, I think--19810). Their registration, title, "other", and documentation fees range from 483 to 596, plus 6% state sales tax. "Other", supposedly is VIN etching on windows. Is this a bogus charge?
Fair Honda in NH (don't know anything about them) quotes 18874, only other fee is + 178 for documentation and title. You then pay sales tax in state where you register.
What are the usual fees for registration, title, documentation fees in CT if anyone knows?
How do the CT deals seem? None of the three dealers have the car in stock, all plan to swap in. What is experience with waiting times, availability anyone? If you make a deposit do you sometimes wait many weeks or months? Dealers are vague....

What dealers in CT are you having good or bad experiences with? I am thinking around the New Haven area.

I am currently in the same boat, looking for an EX Civic in CT. I cannot get anyone to budge from sticker price, and it is difficult for me to justify that kind of money for a Civic. I have had a decent sales experience with Executive Honda in Wallingford, but terrible experiences with Brandfon Honda in Branford and Courtney Honda in Milford.

I am considering a Mazda3, but my Mazda dealership experiences in CT have been dreadful.

Hi, I posted earlier, another frustrated honda buyer over here in Chicago!

I called Honda customer service and they told me that the 2007 hondas would hit the market in September. All of the dealers I spoke with told me November was the release date (I am assuming Honda's info is the most accurate). September is just about 14 weeks, 16 weeks away. I understand from the dealer's perspective this is a supply and demand issue with respect to pricing. But, from my perspective I am starting to have some concerns about paying a pretty hefty price . . for an economy car . . . that is going to be last year's model in about three months.

In any event, wanted to pass on what Honda had mentioned about the September release date.

I certainly understand your viewpoint, as long as you understand that the 07 will certainly be priced higher than the 06.

I would also excpect the freigh/destination to be increased on all Honda's too.

They don't work.If you're having a hard time getting to the lots that's a problem, but it's the way to go. Stay outside, tell them what car you want and ask for their best price. Then go do it at three more dealers. Then do another lap until you either get a car at a fair price, or they give up on you. It's not hard provided, a. the car exists, b. you don't expect to get a brand new $19,000.00 car for 13 and, c. you're willing to walk away.

When I bought my Coupe a few weeks ago I had just sold my car and really needed to buy another one. Oh well. There was no way I was going to do it unless the car and the deal were right. That's why God made bicycles. The second dealer I talked to [Oakland Honda] knew that, had the car I wanted, and offered me what I knew to be a fair price. He didn't clean me out, I didn't clean him out. That's all you can ask. It was easy.

We already have a Mazda 3s in the stable and quite frankly the seats aren't that good for my back problems. The Civic seat felt much better to me, as did the Accord seat. The Mazda 6 seat was also quite comfortable. Still waiting to try the Volvo S40 but I'd really like a Civic though. Leaning more towards a LX sedan now and hopefully I will buy before the '07's come out. But am really in no great rush. I have the luxury of time on my side!

if dealers won't budge from msrp for a civic, why not buy an accord for over $3000 under msrp, based on what's being written on the accord board? am i nuts?

I purchased my 06 Civic in Huntsville, but live in Nashville. Alabama only allows a dealer to charge a max of 2% of their 4% sales tax. Actually, it is your choice. Alabama allows you to pay no sales tax in their state if you are an out of state customer. They have what is called a reciprocating agreement with Tennessee. I chose to pay the 2% there because I was financing the automobile through Honda and I wanted as much of the deal as possible to be included in the financing. I then paid the remainder of the 7% sales tax charged in Tennessee. In other words, 5%.
  • temj12temj12 Member Posts: 450
My advice is to never leave without the car if you are happy with the deal. If you are going to read every word of the contract, go to a corner and do that. You had a fair deal and you should have taken it then. When you walked away, they were tired of fooling with it. It also gave them time to think that they could do better as a dealership on the price.

Purchased a 06 EX Auto with Navi for $20,400 which is $910 under the 21,310 MSRP....it took a lot of haggling but it seems lower prices are a little easier to find in Florida than elsewhere in the US

I paid about 18500 out the door also but no added extra's. I think I could of done better but this was no effort at all. The easiest deal I ever did,the whole time spent negotiating, sealing the deal and all paperwork was about 2 hours.
  • slowpedalerslowpedaler Member Posts: 62
I'm not in Florida and don't know the answer to your specific question but, in general I think the answer is different for different buyers on different days. You seem willing to go to many dealers so have at it. Don't make any offers, don't go inside and don't tell them how much you're willing to pay monthly. Just get their price on that day and move on to the next dealer. Salespeople HATE to be undersold.

I am new here so in case further info is required please do let me know.
Car : Honda Civic Lx 2006 Automatic

Thanks for the note and advice, temj! We are first time car buyers and as I mentioned got to the dealership very late at night when we were pretty exhausted and did not have time to look over the contract because the dealership had basically closed around us. To me it seems odd to plunk down over $18,000 cash without looking over the contract (in which there actually WERE a few objectionable provisions about not disclosing pre-sale damage, deposit being nonrefundable, etc). It sounds like what you are trying to tell me is that car buying is not like other consumer transactions . . . the whole thing seems a bit crazy to me. Unless someone calls with a great deal, we are going to wait for the 2007s in September or consider an accord. I appreciate everyone's advice though.

Don't believe everything you read on the Prices Paid boards. A lot of these so called prices paid are impossible. People either like to "one up" the other guys, they don't remember, or they just don't tell the truth.
  • tyggertygger Member Posts: 59
I agree. At one point, I had a sneaky suspicion that dealers were posting anoynomously to get potential customers to come in. I'm still not sure... but based off the info. I got from these posts, I landed a pretty decent deal so there's truth to some of these posts.

I'm in the Pittsburgh, PA area. I test drove a Civic EX coupe with MT this past weekend. The salesman said that since the Civics are in so scarce supply, that dealerships will be selling them for MSRP. He said his dealership will not sell below MSRP - bosses orders. Does anybody know if this is really true? I know that 06 Civics are very popular right now. Is there anything I can do in terms of leverage? I haven't talked to any other dealerships but from what I've seen, it appears that very few of these cars are just sitting on the lot. So I would assume it is much harder to deal because the dealership is not willing to negotiate on a car that will probably get sticker if he waits for the right buyer. Is this just a matter of a new model with hot sales and the dealerships just taking full advantage? Is there any advantage to me waiting for the 07s to come out, or is the value of the car going to hold steady? I figured I'd be able to get at least a little under sticker...but so far I'm wrong
  • hybrid93hatchhybrid93hatch Member Posts: 35
Definitely talk to other dealers. I've requested quotes from about 20 dealers in the area (ATL). Some will not come off sticker while others will. I'm working with a dealership that is offering a EX w/navi (auto/sedan) for $21,882.46 OTD (7% tax), which is under MSRP. If the car turns out hard to get I am most likely going to just get an LX. I've had dealers tell me there is more room to bargain with non-navigation models. At the time I was only interested in navigation models.

Only problem is the dealer wants me to drive the 75 miles to do the paperwork. She said she could take the deposit over the phone, but some of the papers must be signed in person. Can someone give me some info on how I seal the deal through phone/fax, so all I have to do is sign and drive in one visit?

    Thanks!

Just got a price of $17534 for a Civic EX 4 door manual. How does this price sound?

    Thanks for your help
  • mycivicmycivic Member Posts: 6
It depends. Was the $17534 including shipping, tax, registration, title, dealer fees etc? If you paid only $17534 for everything, then I would say you got a great deal. Would you want to negotiate my next car purchase?

My Civic EX 4dr automatic was $20,183. This included everything. I purchased it at White Plains Honda in NY.

    $18,664 - Price including $550 destination charge
    $1376.47 - sales tax at 7.375%
$67.50 - misc fees such as tire fee, etc
$75.00 - registration and new tags.

  • slowpedalerslowpedaler Member Posts: 62
If his best offer is MSRP then find more dealers. I doubt you're going to show another dealer that offer and they're going to say, "Yep, me too. Can't beat that." Out here in Oakland, CA. my EX Coupe MT was $1200.00 under MSRP

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There are two Honda dealers in this City and two about two hours away. I obtained quotes from three (one never replied to my e-mail). I will break this post into several due to the length (but I have several questions for you very knowledgable people in this forum). The BR dealer quoted $16,910 (car) + $550 (dest) + $160 (tag/title)and no dealer prep bringing the cost (before taxes) to $17620. The Covington dealer quoted $16,895/$550/$155/0 for a total of $17,600 or $20 less than my local dealer (but two hours away). Lastly, the Slidell dealer quoted $16,075/$550/$139/$295 for a total of $17,059 which was $561 less than my local guy, but the only one charging dealer prep fees. Now I know I'm only supposed to care about the OTD price, but due to the price difference of $561 sounding so much like a destination fee, I called to see if the price included the destination fee. The guy I talked to was not "sure" but said the internet price ususally did include the destination fee. But they didn't have a single LX (oh yea, I was buying a 4 dr LX AT)on the lot. He said it may cost an extra $100 to $150 to get one in from another dealer. Some of you may call me stupid, but I really hate to haggle. This last dealer didn't sound really firm, so I went back to my local guy. Long story short - I purchsed the LX for $16,910(base) + $550 (dest) + $1580 taxes + $166 (tax/tire fee/doc fees) = $19,206. I know this was only about $500 off MSRP and according to "the math" professed by some in this forum, you can do a lot better, I just thought I would post about the prices I had received around here. However, my buying experience was horrible - another post.
  • tankmastertankmaster Member Posts: 20
    mycivic,

Tax on my $17534 comes to $1052. Doc fee is $299. Registration is $88. Note that the $17534 included the destination fee.

This brings me to a total of $18973. NO other fees.

But, I firmly beleive that when we are talking car prices with everyone from all over the place, we need to only consider selling price and any other dealer related fee such as documentaion and the other so called misc fees that you paid. Taxes vary from state to state as do the registration fees. Heres the reall kicker, the dealer that gave me this price, today offered me an Acord SE manual for +$300. The SE is basically a EX without the sunroof. I don't think I can refuse this offer.
  • brcivicbrcivic Member Posts: 3
I posted another message regarding my price research and feel I got an ok deal ($500 less than MSRP). I ended up at Richards Honda in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I had a horrible purchasing experience and have a few questions. I spent two hours in the dealership Saturday night just trying to get a price. They wouldn't commit to a price because I wouldn't commit to a color. They only had a black and a red one the lot. I wanted to see some other colors. They said if they had to "go get the car" or "trade" they couldn't determine the price (???). I should have listened to my gut and walked. They were really high pressure - what would it take to get you in that car tonight, yadda, yadda, yadda. They asked if I would "do the deal that night" if we got right on the price. I was not ready that night. I had only just decided to even look at a Honda (had gone to buy a Toyota Corolla but they really jerked me around). I know you are supposed to be ready to buy when you deal, but I really just showed up for a test drive and asked for a price. Is that a crime? I also had a month left on an existing lease and had been told by Toyota that they would buy out my lease and pay for my excessive mileage to get me to buy right then. Once I agreed, they backed out (hence I landed at Honda). When I asked my Honda salesman about my lease, he checked (ran it to the back for an appraisal) and said they would write me a check for my remaining months lease ($725) and my excess mileage ($500). So now I figure they are not going to come off the car much. I never could get a square answer on a price so I left and came to this site. Learned a lot, got two other quotes and called Richards Honda back on Tuesday and told them I had two other quotes - did they want to give me one? They gave me a quote (see other post for details). I asked if they would still do the deal on my lease and he agreed. He said they would give me a check for $725 + $500 = $1225 and $500 off MSRP. I told him I would be there after work. I asked that he please have the paperwork ready as I had been ill and didn't feel well and my very impatient husband would be with me. I'll spare you the long version (yes, it is longer than this). I got to the dealership and when he listed the price of the car it was the price he had told me PLUS the $1225 he was going to give me in a separate check. He said his manager said it had to be "shown" like this in the sale, but not to worry, they were still going to give me a check for that amount so it didn't really change the price of the car. Stupid me felt it was a wash, but my number smart hubby told him he was not going to be taxed on that $1225. The salesman and him continued to argue and I said it was about $100 in tax - take another $100 off the price of the car and let's go. He took another 30 minutes to get that approved. Can someone explain that stratgy to me? Was I dooped and don't realize it?

I'm not lying - I got to the dealership at 4:30 and didn't get to leave until 7:30! I asked the manager if it normally takes 3 hrs to close a deal when the price has been agreed to on the phone? Of course I got a million excuses. But now for the best part - see next post - the car was damaged!
  • brcivicbrcivic Member Posts: 3
I'll keep this "on topic" in how it relates to my buying experience (see previous two posts), but I am asking for advise here. When I took possession of the car after the sale, the salesman pointed out that the rear bumper was damaged and they didn't realize it until it was washed. Never mind that I had been in the dealership for 3 hrs working on the paperwork - they didn't realize it until he pulled it out to give it to me? It is an area about 7 inches long by 5 inches wide and looks like a lot of little pits with with two about the size of a dime. It goes through the paint into the foam (??). They said not to worry, they would repair it. My husband told them he didn't want it repaired, it had to be replaced! After much arguing, he promised us that it would be "to our satisfaction" (yes, I got that in writing). He said he would call me to schedule the repair the next day. He didn't. We got concerned and started thinking maybe we shouldn't accept the car. Don't you have 3 days or 5 to give it back? I finally got in touch with the salesman again and got some excuse about how busy the bodyshop was, but they could to it Monday. Should I take this car (if giving it back is still an option)? Am I likely to have paint problems with it in the future? How can I make sure they use a new bumber and not just repair the old one? Can you believe this guy proceeds to tell me I will be receiving a questionaire in the mail and how important getting all five stars is to him? (I know all about the questionaires). I remind him how much I wanted the ipod adaptor ($199) and if my car was satisfactorly repaired and deliverd ipod ready, it would go far in making me a happy customer!

if you like the accord do it. i would rather have an accord than a civic. but what did it for me was the gas mileage on the civic was better.
  • tankmastertankmaster Member Posts: 20
On the Accord manual vs the Civic manual, we are only talking about a 4 mpg difference. I don't drive enough miles/yr to make the decision just on that factor alone.

While I really liked the turning ratio ofthe civic, the accord lookslikeit is much more roomier than the Civic
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Did you get anything in writing that says they will fix the bumper? If not, you might have a problem. I believe since you took delivery of the car, then you can't take it back. Did you not look the car all over before signing?
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
basically they replace the bumper cover, not a big deal. If they "paint" it then in time you'll have some issues with discoloration...but standard course of action for damage like that is to replace the cover.
  • beantownbeantown Member Posts: 228
Most states have a 3 day right of rescission where you can return the car and get your money back for up to 3 days from the date you took delivery. Some states don't have this, so you should check with your state's Registry of Motor Vehicles.

I would exercise this option if I were you. By them telling you to wait until next week, it sounds to me like they want you to lose your chance to return it.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
"Most states have a 3 day right of rescission where you can return the car and get your money back for up to 3 days from the date you took delivery. "

    WRONG!

If the dealer came to YOUR HOUSE then you would have the 72 hr cooling off period. However, once you drive that car off of the lot...it's yours.
  • thalesthales Member Posts: 1
Last night I went to Immke Honda in Dublin, oh and ordered a 4dr LX with auto. I didn't get any options and over the internet they quoted me $16675, which I took after getting them to toss in a few little goodies. Most everywhere else in central ohio was $500-600 more.

The two main places both offered me the same for my trade, which I thought was fair.

    So...

LX 4dr auto -> 16675 before tax and title
    trade -> 4000
    tax -> 856
    title -> 58

Out the door including my trade = 13589
Excluding my trade it would have been 17859.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 268,115
jmurman42 is correct... The 3-day cooling off period is for sales made off-site...

I've read that there might be one or two states that actually have a 3-day right of recission period on car sales, but never been able to verify it. (Minnesota, IIRC).

I thought a got a pretty good deal with my civic lx automatic in Boston at 17000 without tax , title and reg. they added splash guards and wheel locks with it . Just curious- how much were the doc fees? I think mine was inflated considering my region $245.

$592 for tax regs and doc fees? Hard to believe ! I paid $850- 5% in mass Dc sales tax rate is higher-much higher.

I just relocated to Ohio from CA. I'm trading in a 2003 Altima on a 2006 Civic EX. Here, they minus the trade in value from the cost of the vehicle, then compute sales tax. This is great! In CA they compute from vehicle cost only. I figure this is saving me quite a bit. Also, dealer is giving me 500 dollars off of MSRP.

I own a 2005 Civic LX with 14K miles and at high speeds 60-70 mph, when I brake to slow down, the steering wheel shakes. I had my tires rotated and rebalanced but that didn't solve the problem. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions?

I test drove the Civic LX (automatic) today and loved it. However, the dealer repeatedly assured me they wouldn't sell a Civic under sticker price. Edmund's TMV is well below MSRP, but KBB has the average selling price just below MSRP. I live in Pittsburgh so there are a lot of Honda dealers within a 25 mile radius. Should I just start shopping elsewhere, or was this salesman simply trying to get me to overpay? Also, I'm trading in a 2001 Cavalier, and with the money they'll make off of that, I figured they could easily go below MSRP.

I will refuse to budge from the average trade-in value from four online used car appraisals for the Cavalier ($2000), and hope to get $500 or more below MSRP. Is this a possibility or will I be forced to pay sticker?
  • alexander_g90alexander_g90 Member Posts: 4
    rha2,

No, do not pay MSRP. I am sure the dealer would've loved if you have done that, but I absolutely guarantee you can do much better. Just look at other posts in this thread.

I am in Seattle and I am shopping for LX sedan automatic. I have requested quotes from about 12 dealers in the area. Two of them quoted me MSRP ($18060). Most quoted about $17,500, which is roughtly the Edmunds and Carsdirect pricing. And finally three winners quoted $17,100, $17,200, and $17,300. I almost bought from one of them for $17,100 but I caught them on lying and freaked out. I ended up walking out even though I had cashiers check for the full amount. They were telling me they needed to run my credit history even though I was paying with a cashiers check "because DMV required them to do that". I quick call to DMV proved it was a lie, and a pretty stupid lie at that. From further research I found out that many dealerships like to do that for several reasonably legit reasons (confirm your identity, try to convince you to get financing anyway, possibly sell your info to business partners). I guess the truth is - there are no honest car dealers. You just have to deal with the most reputable of the dishonest people.

The summary is: That dealer lied. If they won't go down from MSRP, go elsewhere. If you really like the dealer otherwise, offer $17000 (if it is a sedan, I don't know pricing for coupe). From what I've seen on this board, this is close to the lowest price you can get about anywhere in the country. At least $17,100 or $17,200 should be pretty easily obtainable. My "Costco designated" dealer honestly quoted me $17,200 right away, and then said he may be able to do just a bit better.

From talking to a ex-dealer friend of mine (ex-car dealer that is), dealers try to shoot for about $1000 profit. Of course if they will try to go for as much as possible, but will settle for $1000 over their cost reasonably easily. LX Auto 4-door is about $16,600 invoice - $500 holdback = $16,100 dealer cost. $1000 profit puts the price at $17,100. For a slow selling car you could probably get closer to an invoice. I had dealers tell me that would sell me Element for $100-200 over invoice, but not Civic. (Element is another Honda I might be interested in). Civic is pretty hot, but good deals can still be had.
  • rpb8rpb8 Member Posts: 4
Agree. For an ex I received quotes ranging from 900 to 600 below sticker price and fees too were flexible. Depends on how much effort you want to put into it.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You might want to sell your Cavalier yourself if you can. This is a car dealers don't want. They are very poor sellers as used cars and it's doubtful it will bring what the various guides are telling you.
