    Response to mhattrup and qbrozen;

mhattrup - I may have screwed up when I bought the TL because I thought it would be sportier (It's a manual 6-speed) and now driving it.... It's not. Don't get me wrong - it's a great car but it has a better quality on a huge road trip on interstates. I have simply proved to myself, unfortunately after more money was spent, that I like more sport and less sedan. The Civic Si would have been the better choice.... Yes, it has a more "live" feel. Live and learn. Now I'm just trying to get one...

qbrozen - my main point is the map detail for given area selected (zooming in or out) is a lot better on the Civic. The TL's display, in a rural area, with that nice big screen, is a joke. One particular area around where we live is festooned with country roads and one or two state routes. The TL's navi is blank as you drive - the icon is "floating" with no background, depicting no roads. The Civic's navi holds that detail (the country roads) longer when you zoom out and you are able to ascertain where you are with "dead-reckoning", making it a lot easier to eyeball how you have to go to get to East Bugtussle.

I'm a victim of already having a portable navi, and as people that have portable navi's can attest to, OEM car navi's, in comparison, are horrible. The Civic's navi is a little closer to that quality and I thought it would be nice to get the Si Coupe with it. If not, that's O.K. too, I still have my portable. Cross-forums with my moniker and you can view that whole argument (boy, talk about a dead horse, geez-a-lo!).

didn't seem like it was beaten too much (although i didn't read back that far). Thanks for pointing me to that discussion, though. Interesting to read more of the tech details.

ponder - I had a similar reaction to the Si when compared to the TSX. You can see a couple of my posts in another topic area that discusses a comparison of the TSX. All of these cars are fun to drive but the Si is very entertaining! I really had some second thoughts regarding my Si for a day or two after I bought it because the ride was a bit harsh and there was a good amount of road noise on some freeway surfaces (on others it's not bad at all). But then I found myself turning the stereo down repeatedly so I could listen to the engine as I accelerated on and off the freeway and started to think it wasn't so rough of a ride after all... etc. etc. I decided I really do ENJOY the car. It's so connected to road and it's responses are instantaneous. As I've described it before it is really a loud, jiggly, IN YOUR FACE experience compared to the more refined TSX or TL. It's not for everyone to be sure but I've learned its what I like.

Sorry for the delay wasn't, hadn't checked in a couple of days. Yes $18157 price and dest, excluding ttl. NJ

The price is for a 07 Civic EX 4dr sedan with an automatic.

Your email is private, so this is the best I can do.

If you don't like the TL's navi, you probably won't like the civic's. They are both Honda's right? How different can the system be? BTW, Honda's Navi is considered one of the best.

I've heard other comments before that the TL's Navi wasn't as nice as the ones that came out in subsequent Acura/Honda models...(maybe it's like the Computers on the space shuttle - they aren't state of the art but they work). Maybe Honda doesn't want to introduce an upgrade and expand the complexity of servicing and supporting two Navi systems within the same model - added parts inventory, shop training etc.. I have no idea if that's a consideration but it might be). I'm watching the snow pile up outside closing in on 2 feet - I think we got out of the Cascade mountains at the right time today.

mhattrup - yeah, I just like sports cars better. You have to understand, I drove a Miata for years (or a pick-up truck), and not one the new ones either. The TL is so quiet and refined, I have to check and make sure I'm not dead.

I think I'm going to go ahead and just get one without the navi and upgrade my portable someday - lot cheaper that way. Kind of weird that Honda is not making more of them with the navi, seems like it would be a hot seller.

Just picked up a brand new 07 Ralley Red SI sedan for $21,000 out the door, not including tax or registration. MSRP was $21,885. Invoice pricing was not (still not?) available for the 07 SI sedan.

The Si is not a "sports car" - a sporty car, maybe. I higher performance Civic, for sure. If you want a real sports car you need RWD (and in some cases AWD). Get a nice S2000 and you have a sports car. A Miata again or any number of other cars (RX-8, Boxster, etc).

The Si is a sporty, higher performance Civic, FWD car.

Need a 4 seater for baby and can't part with S2000 so checked out & tested the SI as econo 2nd car and liked it but...$2000 over MSRP for a Civic is just insanity  . Went down to $1000 over MSRP after the usual haggling ceremony but still... The folks at the dealership were quick to mention that 5-10% even 20% over MSRP is common for cars such as the Z06, Enzo,... or other exotic cars and ardently defended their "supply and demand" pricing policy mentioning that customers (read suckers) recently paid up to $25K for this car w/o additional equipment  . I had to curb their enthusiasm by pointing out that their closest link to anything exotic is their Acura division and the defunct NSX. We're just talking souped-up Civic here... SI followers of the NY-NJ tristate area what are you willing to pay or recently paid for a car like that?

PS. - - The dealer had 2 in stock and calls to 2 other dealers revealed that stock is usually around 1 to 3 & immediately available.
  • flash89flash89 Member Posts: 5
Wow, you could probably buy the car from a dealer in another part of the country at a better price, have it shipped to your house and still come out under MSRP.

You could try this little tactic I picked up in an article somewhere.
Stop in on a cold rainy day 15 minutes before closing, best if a slow weekday like Tuesday or Wednesday make sure you make it clear you want to buy a car today, if they can smell a sale they probably won't tell you to come back tomorrow and will try sell you a car. Then spend an hour or two with the sales guy, takes some test drives, let them look at your trade, talk about features, ask financing questions, anything to occupy their time. After the guys at the dealership have 2-3 hours of their time invested in you they may be more willing to work a deal.

On a similar and entertaining note:

I was looking to test drive a GTI and when to the closest VW dealership. As I was walking the lot, I saw that every single car on the lot was marked between $1000 to $5000 over MSRP, the description of the added cost was "market adjustment". My favorite was the $1800 over invoice on each of the 27 $16K rabbits they had in stock. I don't know if this a standard VW thing or just this dealership, but WOW, what decade do these guys think it is?

After the deal is done seems a poor time to really research what is a good price, but if the MSRP was around 20200, you seem to have got about $1700 off which seems good. 2 other opinions that you got a good deal could mean you got a good deal or you got the opinions of 3 dummys so just enjoy your car.

The best price and dest for a 07 Civic EX 4dr sedan in the Atlanta, GA area that I have found so far is $18,860 which is $408 over invoice.

Was that price in NJ found through direct contact or a buying service?
  • ponderpointponderpoint Member Posts: 277
Rear wheel drive! Wow! A purist! Have NOT seen that in a awhile, kind of refreshing.

"A sporty car, maybe" is the key phrase. Trying to keep a little sport with a little more reliability and utility is the task at hand. FWD is not preferred but seems, these days..... oh well.

    Hi!
I would like to buy a honda civic 4 door LX (auto).

I just contacted a dealer, and he offered $17,400 including splash guards ($168 value) and destination charge (excluding registration and title fees).
    Is it a reasonable price?
What kind of services (free oil change, a tank of gas) can I request to the dealer?

    Thanks.

    From Moon
  • dmbfiredancerdmbfiredancer Member Posts: 8
not bad...i got mine for $17081 here in california....no splash guards, but i didnt really need them.

from my own experience, it all depends how much work you want to put into it to get him to go lower from here. i had to take each offer and then pit it against another dealer to see if they would match or go lower....then i'd go back to the other dealer with my new figure to see what they would do until i got to my final number. i stopped once i felt that nobody was budging and i felt that i had a dealer i could trust and that i liked working with to make my final purchase with.

your new car should already come with a full tank fo gas....mine came with the first oil change free, too.

    hope this helps a bit

My wife and I just fell in love with the SI Sedan and found a Habanero Red one at a local dealer. Right now they are offering $500 of MSRP on it 'till the end of the year.
We're going to test drive it tomorrow around 3pm.

Should be a good time to try and negotiate? 3pm, Saturday, end of the month, and the end of the year?

I doubt we'll be able to get anything off, but worth trying. More than likely we will wait until spring, save some more money and try to find another. Most dealers in the area show 2-4 SI sedans on the lot right now, hopefully there will be a better selection by March of April.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I will try to go down to $17,200.

Well, considering how much more car the Accord is, and that people on the Accord Prices Paid Forum are getting quotes for Accord LX Auto Sedans for only $500 more, I'd think you could work that price down some, or maybe get a lot more car and buy the Accord? Click here to see the under-$18k Accord LX deals I'm talking about in the other forum.

I understand that some just WANT a Civic (my dad just got an EX, so I understand), but I think people fail to realize that to upgrade to an Accord these days will cost VERY little.

I just purchased an '07 Civic LX (auto) for $16,417. Documentation fees were$250, title was $24, and taxes were $533.35. My grand total, everything included, was $17224.35.

I started the process by sending an e-mail to every Honda dealership in a 100 mile radius (there are five) offering $16417; I got this number from Consumer Reports (I paid the $14 to get the pricing report). One dealership responded with $16517, and I forwarded their e-mail to the others. Another dealership resonded that they would match this price, which I also forwarded to all the dealerships. Finally, a third dealership offered what I wanted.

I think the fact that I bought on the last day of the year helped.

Found a 2007 Civic EX Sedan AT for $210 under invoice ($18,242 before TTL) in the Atlanta metro area after contacting 15 dealers. Shopping at the end of the year seems to be a big factor.

You might find similar deals at Carey Paul, Willett or Hennessey Honda if you are shopping today - the last day of the year. Check out Mall of Georgia Honda if you want the car delivered with a lot of accessories (sarcasm not intended).

    Thank you for the information.

I think you had a great deal!
The dealer sold under the invoice price which is about $16,800.

Which state are you in? How about registration fees?

    Happy New Year!
  • brianjandreaubrianjandreau Member Posts: 67
I live in Maine. The registration fees here are pretty expensive. Of course, I haven't registered yet, but I'm anticipating it will be around $500.

A friend recommended that I purchase the Consumer Reports price report for $14, and I'm glad I did. The information on the price report stated that there was a $500+ dealer holdback, meaning that the dealership will receive the amount of the holdback upon selling the car. In other words, even if the dealership sold at invoice, they would still profit.

My thinking on why I got a great deal was that they were eager to sell before the end of the year. If the dealership could add to their numbers, then they could advertise as the best Honda dealer in the state, and I've heard that Honda gives preferences to dealerships that sell a lot of cars. I don't know for sure, but this is what I've heard.

By the way, I bought from Charlies Honda in Augusta, Maine. They have a website you could google.

    Take care.

17,400 isn't bad for the LX. I just bought an LX for 17,200. My dealer gave me all the dealer add-ons for free. I ended up getting the car for just a little over invoice. In all, I think the quote you got is decent.

I just bought a 2007 Civic EX Sedan for $18,473 in NE Ohio (with taxes, title, and documentation, came in under $19,900 total). I didn't have to work that hard either. I got two internet quotes from dealers in the area and then sent them to a third dealer who is a lot closer to where I live and asked them to beat it. They did. I'm happy with the price I paid. :)
  • heavypedalheavypedal Member Posts: 5
I just got an almost identical quote from a dealer in Petaluma, CA, and based on the other reading I've been doing, it seems like a pretty fair price. Do you think you're gonna go for it? What color are you getting?
  • carhunter75carhunter75 Member Posts: 2
That's not bad at all. I can't get any dealer via the email to go below $17,355 in the Missouri area. I'm not sure how to proceed at this point. They don't seem to be budging at all. One dealer even gave me MSRP as the initial offer. Best of luck.
  • heavypedalheavypedal Member Posts: 5
We started out first at San Francisco Honda, and the initial number they started with was something like $22,500! We finally got them to join us in what I like to call "reality," and we settled on $17,300, but then they screwed us over by selling the car out from under us (after we had put down a deposit!). I think it worked out well for me, since I don't like dealing with stuff like that.

I am looking into buying a Civic EX Automatic Sedan in Ohio and I have a couple of questions.

What is the dealer holdback on this particular trim?

Is it reasonable to negotiate the car down to invoice?

Is expecting 35MPG in 80% highway 20% city driving reasonable?

Does Honda ever offer any financing offers on Civic? Does anybody forsee financing incentives in the next 6 months?
  • dmarcus48dmarcus48 Member Posts: 139
the internet is the best way to go. I've bought my last three cars through emails. No hassle, good prices.
  • atlratlr Member Posts: 22
holdback: I have read that holdback on a Honda is 3% of base MSRP.

negotiated price: I bought a Civic EX Automatic Sedan for $200 under invoice last week in the Atlanta area. Get quotes on weekday mornings of the last week of the month.

    MPG: don't know yet

    financing: don't know
  • jayneocjayneoc Member Posts: 5
What is the dealer holdback on this particular trim? no clue

Is it reasonable to negotiate the car down to invoice? Depends on the time of year. I know that around my part of Ohio I didn't get quotes that low until the last two weeks of the year and that the TMV listed here at Edmunds for my area is about $1,500 more than I paid.

Is expecting 35MPG in 80% highway 20% city driving reasonable? Would seem reasonable since most of your driving is highway.

Does Honda ever offer any financing offers on Civic? Does anybody forsee financing incentives in the next 6 months? I watched the offers for most of 2006 and never saw anything for the Civics. I had resigned myself to paying close to MSRP until I researched and read that buying the last two weeks of the year would save me money (which it did).
  • brianjandreaubrianjandreau Member Posts: 67
According to Consumer Reports, the dealer holdback is $509 on the LX and $561 on the EX. As I stated a few posts ago, I bought an LX Auto for $16417 using the information I purchased from Consumer Reports.
  • ezwinner701ezwinner701 Member Posts: 29
Except the SI, there you are looking for discount off MSRP. but as for the rest of the civic, ijust got a Civic lx Coupe Auto for 16.2k + taxes. That's like $450 under inovice. do not SETTLE for 17.k+ figures. good luck

How did you go about negotiating that great price? Internet? In person at the dealer? I'm not having that much luck in my local St. Louis market despite following many of the strategies recommended here. Any advice would be extremely helpful.
  • cetaklacetakla Member Posts: 1
I think it's not a bad deal. I suggest you get about 5 online quotes in your area to see what is the trend.

I just got mine [2007 civic 4-door auto] for $17,080 in Los Angeles area this past weekend.

Base Price [with destination charge]: $17,080
Add-ons [splash guards, wheel locks and trunk tray]: $100
    Tax [8.25%]: $ 1,417
    Doc fee: $45
    Other fees: $215
    ---------------------
    Total: $18,857

    PS:
Below are some sites that I used during my research:

    1) Finding about the dealer's holdback (It's the percentage the dealer gets from the manufacturer just by selling a car).
    http://www.edmunds.com/advice/incentives/holdback/index.html

    2) To get an estimated target price of a car, just download the Buyer's Offer Spreadsheet, and input the information about the car.
    http://www.carbuyingtips.com/download.htm

    3) Invoice and MSRP prices can be retrieved in KBB website:

you just have to be stern about it. i did it most over email. just email all the dealerships, if they havethe car, they might deal. just dont show weakness and let them see you really like that car, but also show you are willing to buy if the price is right.

What do you guys think of the price I paid. I didnt add on any options. I feel like I over paid by a couple hundred...any thoughts?

    $16,043 Car
    $598 Destination
    $198 Doc Fee
    $1045 TTL

    $17874 Total Out the door..

    Hi all,

I am about to purchase a Honda Civic LX in the state of AZ, Phoenix area. I am new to this whole purchasing business and am wondering where I can find out how much I'll be charged for vehicle registration and title and other 'extra' fees that are generally not part of the negotiation price (i.e. invoice minus holdback and such). Also if anyone has purchased in the area I would love to hear how much you've payed.

    Thanks
