    My point exactly. Thank you.

I know YOU wouldn't pay that for that car but MANY others would snap it up. As soon as that Accord hit the internet I would probalby get a dozen hits the first day.

There are other "special cases" in the Honda line. Civio Hatchbacks, CRX's and Civic 4wheel drive wagons will break the bank.

The 1990-1993 Accords have a VERY strong support group. These people scour the newspapers and the internet for what they think were the "best" Accord ever built. I disagree, but as I said before, we are all different.

And road salt? What's that? :confuse:

I started shopping in October and considered Sonata v6, Mazda3 2.0, Fusion I4, Camry I4, Corolla, and Civic. Narrowed down to Mazda 3 and Civic although the first Honda dealer didn't give me a test drive. And the second dealer's salesman didn't allow me to test it on the highway. His reason was, "sorry, this is a brand NEW car" (well, I am considering buying a NEW car) and "it's ten times better than others and we sell 10 times more Civics than the rest in the class". He wants to add $300 above the MSRP, and of course, the interest rate was 6.9% APR (Oct, 2006).

This Tuesday afternoon, I decided to get a Mazda 3 2.0. But the dealer didn't have the color I wanted and said they will have it available in a few days.

On the way home, I passed by another Honda dealer (not the first two I visited) and there are big read signs everywhere, "come in and get up to $1000 gas car on any 2007 Honda". I pulled over and told a sales that I want to take a look a the new Civic. He did say anything but tossed me the key! I spent about an hour on the road and loved it better than Mazda 3i! After I returned, I asked the sales if it's possible to take $500 off from the MSRP and get the $500 gas-card discount. He said he'd check with the manager. Moment later. I signed the paper and got the deal: Total $1000 off the MSRP plus 4.9% APR finace rate for 48 months.

I am 100% satisfied. But probably will never do business with the dealership who didn't allow me to test drive it on the highway because the car was "brand new".

I should have tested Accord before getting the Civic. But I am 100% happy with the Civic at the moment. Maybe next time. I also double-checked my Civic, it has 10KM on the Odometer and is manufactured in November 2006, in Canada. It too is a brand NEW car.

Last year, my next door neighbor bought a '92 LX model... automatic, motorized seatbelts... wheel covers, no sunroof.. paint oxidizing... 130K miles....

Paid $3200 and was happy about it...

I'd have to agree with those that think that model was the "best"..

I'd like to have a '93 stick-shift EX for commuting... What are my chances of finding one? Almost zero..

A 6.9 interest rate is actually pretty good.

Honda did run a low interest special (4.9)rate around Thanksgiving but it didn't apply to Fits or Civics. I'll bet he screwed up!
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Ah, if it has motorized seat belts, it's a 1990 or 1991.

If you can find one with a stick, it'll be less money because these are hard to sell.

We do see rust buckets from back east come in once in awhile and we just wholesale them. Rust just kills a car. When it snows here (not often) they use sand.

I think my folks got something like 5.85 on their Civic EX they bought last week.
  • heroletherolet Member Posts: 22
I forgot to mention I am in BC, Canada. The 4.9% APR (48 months) through HCFI (Honda Canada Finance Institute) is now available everywhere in Canada.

Civic 4.9% APR (48 months) 3.9% APR for 36 Months.

You can check www.honda.ca to verify.

By the way, this is my third car but first Honda. Loving it.
  • heroletherolet Member Posts: 22
Thegraduate, I can see why you love your Accord. I will probably replace my Altima 2.4 with an Accord or CRV in a few years.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I didn't realize you were in Canada. Things can be different.

My daughter's first new car. Paid $18157 plus TTL and dest. doc fees were $128. They gave me 6.11% on a 36 month loan.

DCH Academy Honda in Old Bridge NJ, very nice to deal with.

I just realized every car in my family is a honda product. 01 Accord, 06 Acura TL, 95 Civic, 07 Civic. LOL, funny never realized it b4

You're kidding, right? That's the stuff the state/county throws on your roads to melt the ice/snow.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Oh, I was kidding. I used to work for an Ohio company and we would follow the salt trucks down the freeway.

Here in Seattle they use sand instead.

I know your weather well, as I have a good friend who lives in Gig Harbor.

Here in Illinois, sand won't do the job. Seattle . . . yes, but you don't have to put up with the low temps you used to see in Ohio. It's only the first week of December, and this morning was a balmy 5 degrees above zero here. Road salt is unfortunately a necessary evil in the "rust belt."

Your profile suggests you only can enjoy a car if you pay less than MSRP - kinda sad. You imply that anyone who pays over MSRP "had to be the first with the new model etc.." In my case the Ody was introduced in 99 we weren't in the market until the end of 2000. I called dealers all over OR and WA and no one was dealing. In fact the best price I found was a "dealer" in Seattle (I'm on the other side of the state) who was bringing Canadian Ody's into the states and replacing the instrument panel and selling them with an aftermarket extended warranty because the US warranty didn't apply. Their price was $600 over MSRP the local dealer matched their price. A friend of mine couldn't find a Ody within 200 miles so he went and bought one from the dealer in Seattle I "saved" him a couple thousand over any other dealer's prices.

At the time Honda's production of the Ody couldn't keep up with the demand a year into production. If I recall correctly they expanded the production lines later.

No matter virtually anyone who bought an Ody in 99 or 00 was a Sucker in your eyes which is really kind of stupid I think but that's just MHO.

BTW - what kind of Civic do you have and what did you pay for it? I'm just wondering what your interest is in this forum as I don't recall you ever mention owning a Civic.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I know. I couldn't put up with that climate myself.

I'm curious - for those that have purchased it, does the "Xzylon" or whatever they are calling the paint sealant option these days really work? against scratches? against pebbles that hit the front end? what's a fair price for this "add on"?

    Thanks.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Well, after watching paint dry on it, and it simply wipe off, I'd say it's good stuff. The real test will be when we get back to bug season. Dad has only had the car about a week, so we won't really know how well it works for a while probably.
  • natenj1971natenj1971 Member Posts: 174
Thanks for the feedback. Any ideea what your dad paid for the paint sealant?

Sounds like we could get a business going here, isell. I'll buy them around here and ship them to you. You pay for the car, transport, and 15% birddog fee. you'd still make an easy couple grand a unit if you can really get that kind of money in your area.

Except you just can't find these cars! That is why they bring the huge dollars. When we do find one it is usually beat with 250,000 miles.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
I think the dealer wanted $299 for a 2 year warranty of the stuff. It was included in the price of his car (which was excellent) so he didn't fight it.

Thanks for the info. I'm toying with the idea of trading my accord for a civic and am collecting bits of info.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
My dad just made that trade (2005 Accord EX cloth sedan, 68,000 miles) on a Civic EX sedan. Got blue-book on the trade (Trade-In Value, Good Condition - KBB - $12,275), and $17,280 + TTL for the Civic.

I just happen to drive a Civic EX coupe and found the seat more comfortable then my Accord. Also, rear view mirror in the accord is indirect line of view so I always have to lean forward to get a complete view of an intersection or what have you. In the civic, maybe the seat is lower or the rear view mirror is set highter but I have a complete unobstructed view. Still, do I want to give up, leather, heated seats, dual climate control, etc. Have to see what kind of deal I can make. My car only has 12k miles on it. Anyway, thanks for your info - now back to Civic pricing.

Does anyone know if Honda will do a special financing program around the holiday season as in years past? Two years ago I picked up an Ody when they ran 2.9% on all cars for two weeks between Christmas and the new year...
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Don't count on it but they might.

They sure wouldn't be dumb enough to announce it before it happens! We never know for sure.

Where did you dad purchase his new Civic EX? The price sounds great! I priced one the end of Oct, and the price was no where near as good. Thanks.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Well, keep in mind that he had a trade-in as well that he got blue-book for (a great-condition high mileage 2005 Accord). The sales manager was eager to finalize the deal before the end of the month to hit a certain quota, as well.

This is in the Birmingham, AL area. The dealership is Serra Honda, in Hueytown, AL. www.serrahonda.com

I hope the planets align for your purchase also!

Back in the end of September I posted about the deal I got on my SI coupe and as I stated at that time that the deal is not real until you drive off of the lot with your car.Monday evening December 11th 2006 I drove my new Ralley Red Civic SI off of the lot.
The price was $20,885 for an SI with all season tires and no Navigation system. The only additional cost was the sales tax here in Maine. This dealership "Maine Mall Honda" (berlin city) in South Portland Maine was the only dealership I could find that was willing to haggle on the price and although I doubted the process they came through with the car they promised at the price they promised. The reason I did not have the car until now was because I did not want to buy the Black SI coupe they had in stock so I had to wait for the next SI they had on order.I came back and posted to let you guys know that you can get a decent deal on the car you want if you just keep looking for the right dealership.Always be willing to walk away and you have a better chance of driving away with a car you can afford.Good luck to all of you.

My opinion is this. the only way you are a sucker is if you do not know you are paying too much. (if in fact you really are paying to much, that is a matter of personal opinion)

Or you can say a "sucker" is a person who will not buy what they know is the best car out there for the money just because he cannot get under MSRP for it. remember there is a reason why dealers do not have to deal on these cars. because they sell the crap out of them for exactly what is the recommended price.

now who is the real sucker? someone who is willing to buy an inferior vehicle just because there is the pride factor involved?

I'm in the market for the Civic Si coupe with navi and the salesman said "whoah - that's going to be a problem, they're rare!".

Is this true? I've gone to two dealerships so far, the first one didn't have any coupes at all, and the second one had one coupe, and it wasn't navi. He was the one that said they're rare. He was a nice guy and really seemed honest about the market, not trying to keep the sticker price standing on false exclusivity.

The first dealership - Apple Honda in York, Pa is impossible to get a read of the market because, well, they never want to deal and seem to only stock the "old lady" run-of-the-mill inventory. The dealership that said they're rare is in Westminster, MD.

We have run into this problem before with small town dealerships only to find the car we wanted was readily available and plentiful in the "big city" area of Baltimore Washington DC metro area.

Before I start phone calling and searching.... Anybody have any information?
  • jschwartz14jschwartz14 Member Posts: 3
I work in a dealership in California and we are the largest Honda dealership in the area. In answer to your question, yes, a civic si with navi is rare. Especially the coupe model. As far as I can tell the hond thought process is the type of person who wants navigation also wants four doors. Don't ask me why I really dont know.
Our dealership for example currently only has 2 civic si's and they are both four doors. And the next one we have coming in is a four door as well. So, its safe to say that salesman was probagly shooting straight with you.
I hope that answers your questions. If you want more info let me know.

Are you sure. Please confirm if you got EX Sedan for $18157 (includes Price & Destination). + TTL.

I too live in NJ. I'll go and buy right away.
  • ponderpointponderpoint Member Posts: 277
Thanks. I guess I'll wait until the "newness" dies down a bit.

I have a new Acura TL ('06)- beautiful car but the navi is a complete piece of junk. The only redeeming value is watching the occasional passenger laugh hysterically at it when it plots a completely ridiculous route.

I stumbled upon the Civic Si when I was casually looking at other navi's.

If anybody in this forum is looking at an Acura TLS, make sure you look at the Honda Civic Si Coupe first! This is probably the first time in my life I bought the "up" brand, and had the standard brand (Honda) have a car that was much more balanced and impressive. I wish I had known - I could have saved a lot of money.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,785
are you saying you think the TL's navi system is junk but you are looking to buy a Civic with navi? Isn't it the same system in all hondas/acuras?

that's about $600 below the carsdirect price here in NJ and still a couple hundred over invoice, so it seems plausible to me.

Could I ask whats the invoice price for EX Sedan AT and what would be the best price I can negoitiate (excluding TTL)

    Please help
  • ponderpointponderpoint Member Posts: 277
Yes, I don't like the Acura TL ('06) navi. The new TLS is upgraded, but still doesn't match the Honda, I don't know why.

The Civic's navi is crisper, utilizing LCD, I guess. The Acura's screen is bigger, but they don't utilize this attribute for detail. The Civic's screen is smaller, but still holds the detailed mapping as you zoom out. You zoom out with the Acura's navi, everything disappears!

The supplier is Alpine electronics. I don't know why they would be different.

The navi, is of course, secondary. I just like the car a lot more than the Acura TL.

the si coupe w/nav is rare. When I bought my TSX with nav The dealer had a red one, 6 spd with nav. It was sold. I love the nav on my tsx-no problems. Good luck.
  • mhattrupmhattrup Member Posts: 77
Do you like the Si's more "live" feeling than the TL or what aspects of it do you prefer? I'm in an 06 Si Coupe now but have looked at TL's on and off for about a year. There is a used 05 A-spec coming in to a local high end used car lot (~11K miles) that I might test drive. I'd be interested in hearing how you'd describe the Si vs TL "experience"...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,785
well, just in case this was causing confusion, he didn't say his was an AT. So that will make a difference between the price he got and what you can get.

Anyway, invoice prices are available right here on Edmunds. Here is the page for the Civic EX AT.

I can't tell you what price you can negotiate. It varies by person and by dealer. I can suggest, as a starting point, to maybe take a look at carsdirect.com. Compare that to the prices people are paying here and figure out a price you are comfortable paying.

sounds strange. I wonder if there is a software update for your TL's navi. I assume you've brought this to the attention of your service department, right?

Aside from that, though, you also complained of the navi remapping new routes in absurd ways. Have you tried the civic's in this respect? maybe travelling the same area where the TL has miguided you? I'm just wondering if the civic's will alleviate this issue for you. If it does, I have to them assume they are different units ... which would be odd, but not impossible, I suppose.
