I do agree, Riposte, and I virtually always know more than the sales person, but if they want me to pay sticker I expect them to do more than hand me keys. I expect knowledge - even basic knowledge - of the product they sell and for them to not treat me like the typical brainless passive moron that walks thru their doors. If they don't do that, I am an "invoice plus" buyer who intends them to get a mini deal. I'm not paying a dealership 2 grand over invoice to jot down my name and address.

Went afterwards to Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, and Ford dealers. They have other models I am also interested in and guess what: they had people who could talk cars and who didn't act like retarded freaks and pussyfoot with their customers. I like that, and those people stand a far better chance of getting my business. I have worked with sales organizations long enough to find it revolting to in any way reward incompetence in that field.

Anyone know what price I could get for this car? Sticker had 20k but then it had another sticker for wheel locks, pin stripe, mud flaps, sun roof wind breaker...and this bumped it up to 22k??? I'm in Florida

Well that narrows it down a bit. What dealers have you been to yet? I'd suggest you start emailing the ones closest to you. But a wild guess in the dark for that vehicle would be MSRP plus tax tag & title.

    Hi,

I'm in the market for an 07 Lx Civic sedan. Has anyone got a good price close to invoice in a Philadelphia dealership that can share with the forum? Thank you in advance.

Last time I posted the same deal and get remove by HOST. I will try not to post contacts info this time. But if you live in Massachusetts, Boston, New England east coast areas then go web search under: Boch Honda route 1 Norwood. Once you located the Boch Honda dealer where you will find all contact info. I was able to help others getting 2007 Civic EX Auto included destination for $18,000. With additional fees are:
    $298 for dealer prep
    $50 for title
    $36 for new plates
$900 for 5% MA State Tax
Total out the door OTD price is $19,284. They are holding the vehicle with $500 deposit over the phone until you come in. Right now all color are available. First come first pick. Drop me an email if you could not got this deal or anyway I could help.

Here's one I hadn't encountered before. I had shopped rates prior to going to the dealership, and had my best rate from a local credit union. The dealership then said they would "buy down" my rate if I purchased their $1095 extended warranty, so the net cost of the 7 year, 100,000k warranty came to $575. Deal or scam?

I'm in Southern CA and tried the Costco approach when shopping for the 2007 Accord. Generally I find that the prices fell on the high side. Each dealer takes their so-called Invoice price and adds a couple hundred as the agreed on Costco price. I ended up just picking a non-Costco dealer closer to me and asking for an even lower price based on what I saw on Edmund. During the negotiation, the dealer freely offered up AAA and Costco discounts and ended up giving me even more cuts than both those offers. I'd use the Costco prices as a guide and negotiate down from there, jmho.

If Sam's and Costco and similar places negotiated as a large group and had uniform prices then they might be a good deal for all. I have found what you found, they "sign up" local dealers to be their "discount" dealers and they send folks to them. How much or how little of a discount is solely up to that dealer and is often not the best price in town. But, it might be a good deal for folks who do not like or do not now how to negotiate or find a better deal.

    That IS a new one.

Was this a HondaCare or some 3rd party warranty?

Check the HondaCare warranty price at this link and see how it compares to $1,095. The difference is how much you over-paid on the warranty part of the deal.

What is your credit union rate? What rate did the dealership offer you if you purchased the warranty? Take those rates, the amount borrowed, and the term and calculate the total of payments for your CR loan VS dealer loan. Make sure the terms are the same! Take the savings (I hope there are savings :D) from the over payment for the warranty and see what the net is. If you over paid $300 on the warranty but getting a lower rate saved $400 in interest over the life of the loan then you saved $100 - assuming you would have purchased the HC warranty anyway.

Did you finance the HC warranty? If not, you know you have 60 days to cancel for a full refund back to you. So you could take the lower rate, pay cash for the warranty, then once the loan goes through cancel the dealer's over priced HC and re-purchase at a discount online. Then you get the better rate AND save on the warranty too. If you finance/financed the warranty then they refund the money back to the lending bank. They MAY apply it to the loan amount and reduce your payment each month - or they may apply it to the "back end" of the loan so you pay the same each month, but have fewer payments.

You can also check rates at Capitalone online. Every time I have checked they can beat AHFC and local bank rates (if you are top tier credit rating). I thought CU money was usually even better?

Thanks for the link, Dennis. It is the HondaCare warranty and included in my financing. They got me to agree to it because it only increased my payments $8 a mo. (6 year loan, unfortunately). So now it's actually looking like a great deal, provided I wanted the warranty in the first place (yes, but didn't think I could afford it). I did ask if I could get the lower rate without adding the extended warranty, and they said no. Thanks for the info.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Did you calculate your payments for a 6yr loan with the credit union rate for yourself to be sure it was just $8 a month more?

$8 x 6 years x 12 months/year = $576 more in total payments more to have the warranty. IF a credit union loan for the car for 6 years is $8 a month less. If the credit union loan was for 5 years, then the $8 x 5 x 12 = $480 + 100% of the last 12 payments (whatever they are) is what the warranty cost.

  • gjm1gjm1 Member Posts: 6
When I went in, my best rate for 6 years was from Golden1 CU at 7.2 ($17,700 loan = pymts of $303.47). Adding the $1095, the dealership gave me a $18,795 loan at 6.14 for 6 years. My pymts are 312.73. I see that instead of “about $8 higher”, it's actually $9.26, so the cost for the warranty comes out to $667. I guess that's still a good deal considering I am financing it (I don't have the cash to pay for it upfront).
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Gotcha, compared to your CU that is a good deal.

CaptialOne is offering 6.69% on 72 month loans which would make it $299.14 per month - if you qualify. That would be $13.59 less per month or $978.48 total less for the life of the loan. My daughter got the 8yr/120k HondaCare for her new Civic (longer term w/most miles) and it was $876 for 8yr/120k/$0 deductible. So not that much less than the $978 difference (assuming you got the same coverage). If you got less coverage then that made a little more.

As you say if you didn't have or didn't want to pay cash, then financing the warranty at 6.14% sure beats putting the cost (even at a discount) on a higher interest credit card. The only caveat is if you sell or trade the car before you pay it off the refund for the warranty (be sure to apply for it, since it is not automatic) would go back to the bank - which makes it a little harder and more time consuming to get your money back.

Just bought one yesterday from Mile High Honda for $600 over invoice. Highly recommend this place, they are very efficient and reasonable. I walked in at around noon, spent about 5 minutes talking to the salesman, test drove the car, spent about another 10 minutes "negotiating" the price and was driving the new car out by 2PM.

Visited Burt/Kuni dealership a few days ago and was told that they will only sell at MSRP if a car is not on the lot. If you are shopping for a new Honda in Denver, don't waste your time at this dealership.
  • khung1khung1 Member Posts: 8

I got it at Landmark Honda in Alexandria, VA. This is the first car I've bought and it was a very pleasant experience. I did the negotiating over email and was in and out of the dealership pretty quickly.

Closed deal 11-15. Bought for $18,929. Price included splash guards. Financed through AHFC @ 6.25% for 60 months. Thanks to all those that posted their deals. The information was a big help during my negotiations.

You said you purchased an 07 Civic EX Auto for 18,929.

Did that price include destination charge?
Any other dealer fees? Please specify.
  • andyhomeandyhome Member Posts: 4
    Don't worried, I am not a salesman.
this is not a scam at all.
I called all the dealers around
San francisco to get a quote. The price with destinatin charge range from $18,498 to $18,700.
  • dwoolmandwoolman Member Posts: 7
    Hi Indymon,

Yes, the price included destination charge. The only fee not included in the $18,929 price was a $17.00 title fee.

I started my negotiations by quoting Edmund's invoice price + destination charge + about $250.00 for a total of 18,700. After a couple of rounds of offer/counter-offer, I caved on the $129.00 splash guards and settled for: $18,800 + $129.00(splash guards) + $17.00 (title fee) for a total price of $18,946.00.

Just to complete the picture, I was also negotiating a trade: 2003 EXV6 Accord Sedan with 26,000 miles that I leased for 4 years. I managed to squeeze $1,050.00 of equity out of this trade concomitant with the Civic purchase.

SOME GENERAL ADVICE FOR GETTING THE PROCESS STARTED:

    1. Go to samsclub.com 2. Click on the "Shop By Service" dropdown menu. 3. Click on "Auto Bying" then fill-in the blanks
(Psst - you don't have to give you real name (email must be real)

You should be contacted by a number of dealers in your area offering you a special internet price. Negotiate from there.

    ALTERNATIVE:
    1. Go to edmunds.com 2. See "Free Price Quote" (Orange Section) 3. Fill-in the blanks.

You should be contacted by a number of dealers in your area offering you a special internet price. Negotiate from there.

If you dont mind traveling a bit. Choose a zipcode 60-100 miles away and try again. More dealers should respond.

There may be some good info there, but lots of bad or useless info as well. For example: DONT LISTEN TO YOUR FRIENDS. EVERYBODY CLAIMS THE GOT A GOOD PRICE.

So, I guess we can't trust the prices you and others post here and in that thread, right? I guess not since we are not to trust anyone :D

Ditto the e-mailing the dealerships - very few of them will answer ANY kind of e-mail. You will get bounces, full mailboxes, etc. Most dealerships do not properly use the internet to generate sales and is for the majority a waste of your time. Calling, visiting, or faxing should work a lot better at those places.

Also posting a OTD price means absolutely nothing to anyone except the person who posted it. We have no idea what your taxes, title, and license fees are. If you live in a state with no sales tax, then not such a good deal. Live where you pay 8% sales tax plus hundreds for tags then that is a better deal. So if you want to post a deal you should include the cost for the car including dealer fees and destination. We can all figure the TTL out for ourselves. You also should mention if you had a trade in or not. I hear folks all the time bragging about how they got an invoice deal - then you find out they got took on the trade.

Also getting invoice is not always the best price - you have to figure in dealer incentives (published or secret), rebates, etc. For example, you can get about any Accord model for invoice or less without a lot of trouble. So settling for invoice may be too much to pay right now.

About end of October after I received my first Civic, I submitted an offer through their website for $17,500 on 07 Civic EX Auto for a friend of mine. They email me back with an offer of $18,700 but I decided to wait for their phone calls. They called me within an hour after their first email offers, I was able to nego down to $18,000. During nego, I stayed firm with my offer of $18,000.

Winter is now approaching in NE and I had noticed more Civics are sitting longer on their lot with at least 2 colors on every available models, I would put in an offer for $17,000 on 07 Civic EX Auto. Try to nego on the phone after their first email offers. I would be surprise if they are not selling you an 07 Civic EX Auto now for $18,000, which is 500 under the invoice. My firmed offer to them now should be $17,800, unless I really want the car then my final offer to them would be $18,000 on 07 Civic EX Auto. If you are willing to wait, my prediction sale on the Civic will be $500-$1000 under invoice once the snow start to falls here in NE.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

    indymon,

here is the break down..i dont remember the exact numbers but are in the following ball park:

base price with the dealer including destination: 18,580
    taxes 1100(6%)
    splash guard - 110
    doc fees $89

when i got the car out of the showroom, i paid 19741. in the bmv to get it registered, i paid $200. The total cost to own is very close to $20,000.
  • indymonindymon Member Posts: 20
Let's leave the splash guard out for conversation sake.

The Invoice for 07 Civic EX Auto Sdn (No-Nav) is:
    $17,857 + $595 Dest = 18,452

    You paid $18,531 ($19741 - $1100 taxes - $110 splash guards)

That means you paid $79 over invoice ($18,531 - $18,452 invoice = $79) for the base car.
That's an Excellent Deal. The best actual deal I've seen so far.
