That MAY be true in some states, but not in Florida or NY.
But, the person asking SAID they were given a 3 day return period. Since this is a CPO used car with over 1k on the clock, it would not "hurt" them to unwind the deal and take back their used car like it would a new car. The fine print of that may say they have to pay $xx per day and $0.xx per mile, however.
Car buying should not be an impulse decision. I encourage everyone to do their homework first (get pre-approved for a loan, know the invoice and promotions for the cars they are look at, etc). Then if in doubt on the deal, ask FIRST before you sign the contract. Clearly everyone here thinks this 06 Si is a bad deal. It would have been a lot easier to get out of it if they had asked before they took the deal.

Thanks everyone who responded!
It's quite clear what to do now.
It seems Si is a low-volume car comparing with an Accord.
If supply exceeds demand then prices will fall. The new Si sedan will likely steal some coupe sales and the new Mazdaspeed3 looks to me to be a better deal - more car for not much more money. Getting both for MSRP means not much more money for the more potent Mazda. They are not making of lot of them this year, but if sales go as predicted I am betting a lot more will be available later. There are only "so many" folks in the market for an expensive performance FWD car and any sales lost to competitors is a good thing for Si buyers (if they don't decide to buy something else themselves). Folks that go strictly by the numbers and comparison tests will have already bypassed then Honda dealer and put a deposit on the speed3. It is interesting to note (maybe only to me?) that with the $3,500 and higher rebates and incentives you can get the speed6 sedan for about the same price (or less) as folks will have to pay for the speed3. Not as light and tossible, but same engine (with a few more ponies) and AWD.
When the S2000 came out dealers were getting full price or over. Once the new Z and other similar price cars were available (and the new wore off the S) deals could be had. I sold my 01 S and got a new 05 last year and paid under invoice for it. It is a more expensive and lower volume, but similar things could happen to the Si as well. The only problem I see (as happens with the S) is that some Honda dealers swear they NEVER discount them while others will a little. The ones that never discount are the only ones stuck with the cars into the next model year and often their "clearance" prices can be as high as other dealers (long out of cars) normal prices.
We will have to see - but if you look there is less than $1,800 difference between MSRP and invoice on the Si. If the Si is the one I wanted I don't know that I would deny myself the car waiting around to save a little coin. No one wants to over pay, but if you are driving around in a beater now then going ahead and getting the new Si now would likely be worth the extra money

This wasn't an impulse purchase I've been looking for months and the red one had been on the lot for about a week before I finally was able to get there. I'd driven the gray one the previous week. My wife isn't into cars at all so I've grown used to buying a car without her testing them first. As she said last night it doesn't matter what you get when we go out of town we always take the van...
Until I hear of a new or used Si (with less than 1200 miles on it) going for under MSRP I'm going to think I got a good deal (and why not factor in the extended warranty associated with the certified program)? It is an added value in my book - especially considering my experience with the Passat!
The dealership sold their Fiji Blue Si today for $1500 over MSRP. Until the availability increases substantially (or the MS3 starts taking sales away) I don't think the prices are going to move below MSRP anytime soon. I looked at the Mazda and found the trunk and rear seat to be too small to hold my golf bag and my speed cart (and my clubs never come out of the car). The back seat on the Mazda is totally useless as far as I can tell. I put the front seat where I would be comfortable and I couldn't even get my feet in the back seat footwell. The Civic's backseat isn't huge by any stretch but I can sit back there for a short trip. I'd be going sidesaddle in the Mazda.
Today the local dealer sold the Fiji blue Si for $1500 over MSRP so they "only" got half their bonus. The best I've been able to find is $1500 over invoice from a dealer in Oregon about 150 miles from me. If your interested let me know and I'll pass along the dealer website. The fleet sales guy is really nice to work with (if my Passat hadn't started to groan from the front suspension) I would have waited until his next Civic Si's hit the ground. He just got two Fiji's allocated with build dates in November so they should be on the ground in January. A sedan and a coupe. The best time to buy is usually near the end of the month and it doesn't hurt if the weather is keeping buyers off the lot (so winter isn't bad).
There is no VW that has even decent reliability - all are below average - so it is not surprising that you are having issues with yours. A new Si would not be likely to have these types of issues.
As I mentioned, you can get the 8yr/120k/$0 HondaCare on a new Si for $876 so it is not like the CPO warranty buys you that much (then you over paid for a HC on top of that).
You must not have sat in the Mazda3 5 door. I found the car to have plenty of room fore and aft - but I never tried to fit clubs into the "trunk" but I would have expected them to fit.
I have purchased cars from all over - I go where the deals are and have even used car haulers to bring me cars that were farther than I cared to drive. You may be in a remote area without much choice, but maybe casting a wider net would let you find a car for a better price?
You asked, we answered. As long as you are happy - that is what matters, not what we think - but we are right
Dennis
I think he's in an area where there isn't much competition for a Honda, so the dealer charges thusly. But I agree with you about over paying. Only option is to go to another out of town dealer, which is what I'd do, but it's not for some.
Dennis
So what would have been an acceptable price for an Si with 1150 miles and an extended warranty that appears to be in pristine (like new and still smells new) condition?
Out of curiosity do you have Si's? And what did you pay for them? So far one person indicated he just bought an Si for what I belive was MSRP and I told him I thought he got a good deal.
I bought our Honda Ody in 2000 when there were waiting lists for them and the dealerships were getting 2-3K over MSRP. I paid $600 over MSRP at the local dealership when they agreed to match the internet price of a "broker" in Seattle that was bringing Ody's in from Canada changing out the metric instrument panels and reselling them with an non factory extended warranty because Honda U.S.A wouldn't warranty them. Now that demand has decreased or supply has increased (not sure which) I just got my sister in-law into a new Ody for $300 over invoice.
Until the demand for the Si slows down or the production increases (and Honda won't do that I don't think) the price will stay at MSRP or higher. The Mazda speed 3 might draw some demand away from the Si but despite having 4 doors it's back seat wasn't as usable as the Civics. I sat in a 5 door specifically to see what it would be like and with the drivers seat positioned where I was comfortable I couldn't get my feet into the footwell in the back (I'm only 6'). I was really surprised and bummed then when I opended the trunk and saw how narrow it was I was really surprised. I wold have had to drive around with the rear seats folded down constantly to carry my clubs and push cart. I'll have to look at the dimensions to compare them but Honda seems to have done a much better job utilizing the space they had to work with. I'm guessing the Mazda would eat me for lunch but the Si is plenty to keep me entertained.
His price was $1500 over invoice which is what I ended up paying for the used one with just over 1000 miles on it (which is nothing on a Honda).
But was his an '07? I'd have to say probably so since the cars are "in such high demand" that a new '06 wouldn't still be sitting around. So you paid the same for a used '06 that you could have on a new '07.
Like I said in my original response to you, if you are happy and you feel it was worth it, then be happy and go on with your life. You certainly shouldn't need to have your deal supported by strangers on the internet.

260hp for Mazda and only 197 hp for Si - a 63hp diff.
283lb torque for Mazda vs 139lb torque for Si - the Si has about 50% torque as the Speed3 - NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Civic Si, however, is a direct competition for VW GTI.
So...please let me know of any dealerships that will gladly deal via email with reasonable prices. I am willing to fly them somewhere to pick up the car for a deal that is worth it.
Many thanks.
It's not that I think he got a bad deal on his particular deal, I just feel that used Hondas and Toyotas are bad deals since they don't depreciate much. Why buy something used when for just a little bit more I could get new? But that's just me.
I am amazed though that people post here asking if they got a good deal or not AFTER the deal.

I love my Honda!

I had the same issue with an 05 Civic I bought last September, which happenned to be right after Katrina and Rita hit, sending gas prices sky high, and as such anything like a Civic that gets upwards of almost 40 MPG highway. I paid more than others that posted in prices paid, but for me, at that time, in my area, I felt I got a reasonably decent deal. And I haven't looked back.

The LX was offered to me for $16,999+t+t+ documentation fee for an OTD price of $17975.00
The EX was offered to me for $18,437+t+t+ documentation fee
for an OTD price of $19,457.11
I am leaning toward the EX but just wondering if I should try to get it cheaper than it has been offered to me. It appears that they are offering it to me at around invoice.
Thanks for commenting as to what you think.
I DO know the invoice in the LX coupe with auto is $16,673 and the EX coupe with auto is $18,452. So you can see you got very good prices - as long as the dealer and "doc" fees are reasonable (no more than $200-300?). If so, then get the EX
Dennis
transfer 55.00) and processing fee (399.00). A out the door price of
17,975.97 with a new tag on the 07 Black LX Coupe w/automatic
The price on a 07 EX automatic would be 18,437.00 plus 3% tax, tag, and
processing fee of $399. for a total 19,457.11 otd.
$16,999.00 + processing fee $399.00 = $17,398 for the car with destination and dealer fee
EX :
$18,437.00 + processing fee $399 = $18,836 for the car with dest and fee.
As I said, the invoice prices (including dest) are $16,673 and $18,452. So your LX price is $725 over invoice and your EX price is $384 over invoice for the EX - if my math is right.
I would say the EX is a nice deal - most folks here would love to get a new 07 Civic for less than $400 over invoice including dealer fees. Obviously the LX price is less hot - but again in some places $725 over invoice including dealer fees would not be a bad deal.
I would get the EX. I envy you the sales tax, it is $80 local + 7% state here on a car purchase

ASKING PRICE how much should be??? $12,500 is that a fair price?? any input pls. thanks
Civic 21,343 23,911 -7.2% 272,886 257,749 5.9%
So sales for Oct 06 were down 7.2% compared to last October, but up 5.9% for the year. Maybe the monthly decrease will lead to better prices for this month and next? It could also be that with the new design last year raised the sales and it would be expected not to match them this year with an unchanged car? For example, the new CR-V (actually total CR-V sales - left overs and new design ones) blew the roof off for October compared to last year:
CR-V 20,413 10,850 95.7% 136,437 125,594 8.6%
Just food for thought....

Anyway, I went to the two major dealers here in Austin to see a model (even if it was not an SI) and ask some questions. At both places I found the dealers to be borderline retarded when it came to the vehicles they sold - completely unable to answer even the most basic of questions - like trim levels and the like. I even spoke to a manager at Howdy Honda and found him to be only slightly less stupid than the sales moron. When they sensed my frustration with their utter incompetence, they'd nervously and timidly ask "do you ...... want ....... a water ..... or maybe ............. a Coke?" and I would respond "no, I want someone here who is competent to sell your vehicles and answer some basic questions." They looked at me like I was from another planet.
Needless to say, I will not be buying a Honda due to the dealer incompetence.
It's the service department you're interested in.
Good luck in your search.

I bought our 2006 EX Civic at the start of June 06 from Russ Darrow Honda in Milwaukee, WI. Excellent experience and no wait time for the car.
The negotiated price was $18000 + $55 doc fee + WI taxes.
They picked us up at the airport (I work for an airline), and had our car ready. We test drove it, signed the documents and drove back to Western wisconsin, all in about 2 hours.
To our surprise, when we looked over the vehicle at the dealer, the car had a Honda trunk tray/cover, wheel locks, and splash guards - all included in the negotiated price.
Thank you for this forum - I used it before buying the 06 Civic. I e-mailed 30+ dealers in the MN, WI, IA, NE, IL area for a quote, with a good response rate. After some prodding (isn't that always the case?) Russ Darrow beat them all, since they had the car and matched the prices.
I have all manual cars myself, so I can understand the desire to row it for yourself. That said, the 5 speed auto on the Civic (and Accord) is very nice and smooth and returns the same EPA city mileage (30mpg) and 2mph BETTER (40mpg) than the manual. So other than the price bump to pay for the auto box, it is not much of a loss to have to take an auto.
I will ask a couple of dealers about this and let you know what they say. Could be your dealer is telling you a fib. Nav equipped cars are fairly rare (since you can get a GPS for cheap most will not spend the $1,750 - $2,000 an OEM GPS costs.
