Brian the $26,000 is the total amount that need to be paid.
Dealer Invoice $25,520
Selling Price $24,140.00(dest. charge included)
NJ Tax 7% $1689.80
Flex Cash $500.00
Doc Fee $369
erson,
Your deal is 741 below invoice price plus 500 flex. If no other dealers will beat this price buy vehicle. What makes this deal buyable is the flex cash.
Make 100% sure you get flex subtracted of agreed selling price of 24,140 , or else this deal is bad compared to other area buyers............ After you buy :
post your deal / name of dealership so other Nj members can see what prices are being offered....................good luck

Yeah, TMV is adjusted frequently as the sales data comes in. But "educated" consumers should be able to beat TMV for many cars - there seems to be a ton of CR-Vs out there right now. Even a little dealer near us (town of 10,000) had over a dozen to choose from last week. People are getting good deals on CR-Vs right now without having to be "grinders".
citizenchi ...
in this good price in NJ? This is for EX-L AWD (no nav or enter. system).
Dealer says price is if i finance with Honda - otherwise add $500.
price $25,791
dest charnge $830
title/reg $399
doc fee $349
Why is the dealer charging both a doc fee and a title/registration fee? Looks like double dipping to me.
One might be the DMV fees, which are legitimate, the other is the dreaded "dealer handling" fee which is pure profit.

thought those are always, separate no? I guess there should be some small negotiation room there as far as doc fee. I just called up the dealer i bought my pilot in 2008. That's first quote they gave me. Is the price in ball park?
It's been a while since I purchased a new car. Some dealers just do the registration fee and tack on processing and call it a doc fee. Or they used to. Some states require the registration fees to be itemized.
"Dealerships charge car buyers documentation fees to cover the cost of completing purchase-related paperwork. In states where doc fees are not regulated by the law, some dealerships will sell a car at a very attractive price but then add a hefty doc fee when it draws up the contract. If you refer to our chart and see that doc fees are not capped in your state, you should find out early on in the buying process what the dealership charges. If it is high (anything over $100) you will need to negotiate the car's price more aggressively to offset this fee."

[edit - just dug out my paperwork for buying my van. The stuff you drag around for 15 years.
I did my negotiating with a blast fax and I just called it "fees" but the final contract broke out DMV separately.]

Stever- Its good to see you and Michaell promting alot of good car buying info/ tips from Edmunds. The honda Accord and CRv forums have lots of traffic and folks need help buying.
Please note : Alot of the members are posting in here or who still have my email write to tell me how difficult it is to navagate thru getting vehicle pricing, and model info.. Alot of times i wont even bother if i'm not fimillar with the model. To time consuming and confusing at times... Guessing what certain models have in them to get the right price info.... I go right to Nada or other web sites.
You guys need to correct this. I could explain in detail if u dont know what i'm talking about.

Thanks Brian; a lot of times I'll do the Build Your Own link and click on "See all 10 styles" to get to the style info instead of the select options. We'll pass this along to Santa Monica.
Stever, check out Nada's price web page. It has a very easy to use pricing guide.. . You type in Year. make, model, and every model pops up.. Click on said model and there is your price breakdown with dest/ charge , want more price options on your vehicle there is another link.. I think your old pricing link should of been kept so much easier. Folks here can find this forum but are clueless in getting price info. You see how many members ask me about pricing?? That alone should tell Edmunds.............. there may be a problem.

Just thought I'd share my experience. Purchased a 2014 CRV EX AWD today for $24,000 including destination. OTD price was $25896. I thought $1500 under invoice was a great deal!
GOOD JOB ................. Post dealership and state you purchased.

Just did a deal with Commonwealth Honda in Lawrence Mass. Got an automated internet quote of 23302 on an EX CR-V AWD, dealer invoice = 25520. Final price after negotiation of 23152. This includes all incentives and is before any taxes, fees. Their doc fee is $293.
Honda Gallery in Reading was quoting me 23899 - 750 flex - 500 dealer cash for a quote of 22699. Somebody up the food chain came along and put the kabosh on that quote though. I do not recommend these guys. They had guys stepping all over each other in the sales process and their General Sales Manager was rude to me on the phone.
Honda Cars of Boston in Everett was quoting 23799 - 750 cash, but they have a 369 doc fee and a "wheel lock" fee of 89 (waivable).
Boch Honda was quoting me 23177 , all incentives included with 369 doc fee.
Commonwealth Honda was one of the few dealers willing to play ball with the negotiated price carrying over to a 3/36 lease without trying to play games. Everyone else, as soon as I mentioned the 'L' word, it was like carte blanche to offer quotes that were completely detached from the negotiated price of the vehicle, even though I demonstrated very clearly I understand lease financing and had my own spreadsheet to do calculations. In fact, I got the silent treatment from a few of them when I suggested such a thing. I guess they are used to fat markups on leases. Ended up paying 229 OTD with 35 more payments of 229 each. Mass state sales tax is 6.25%
lairdwd
Congrats on the great deal. Could be a record for posters here for under invoice sales price. I too did get a fine first quote on an LX AWD from Commonwealth at 21336 ---- 2178 under invoice. We haven't visited yet.
How did you find dealing with them?
Did you shop Honda North in Danvers? 385 doc fee but as repeat customers we may catch a break.
My wife will drive another today. She is not yet sold on an SUV. Three more days or the 2009 Camry stays.
Again great deal!
Commonwealth was no problem to deal with. When I indicated I wanted to explore leasing options on a 3/36, they were willing to play ball at 229 OTD, and 35 payments of 229. This was completely the opposite of everyone else that wanted to play the monthly payment game with murky fee details , unwilling to break down quotes. That's fine, the problem is the quote was going the wrong way - large, whereas commonwealth went the right way, small. I did not have a detailed quote breakdown when I did the deal, but I had felt like a level of trust was established with the sales person, and they did not disappoint. Of course, I brought the email discussion with me though, just in case of any confusion. ;-)
They only had 3 EX AWD left in dealer inventory, whereas Boch has a whopping 42 units. Perhaps Commonwealth is establishing themselves as willing to take a lower markup for higher volumes.

Hello All,
I would like to know if you think I am getting a good deal. This is in northern California
I am looking at purchasing a 2014 Honda CRV AWD EX-L w/ Navi.
The dealer has offered a price of $27,850.
With TTL added in it comes out to $29,650 OTD.
Seems like a pretty good deal, but I wanted to make sure.
kbs.................good deal
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
I just got a CRV LX for OTD $22,600 (TX) with cargo cover, cargo tray, all weather mat, tint, and tire lock. (without those accessories it would have been $21,960, OTD).
The deal is done. Honda North Danvers, MA. CRV LX AWD 23554 invoice, paid 21336, 2218 under invoice, no flex cash. Another dealer 30 miles away offered same deal but with flex cash. Had a pretty good trade in offer of 11000 for wife's 2009 Camry and was concerned 2nd dealer might not match the trade. I wanted to give dealer 2 a shot but wife objected, We'll get a few free oil changes thrown in. Waiting for dealer to obtain Twilight Blue vehicle. Doc fee is 385 and registration 125. How'd I do?
Here is the deal that has me driving my 2014 CRV-EXL AWD!
Dealer price $26119 plus $429 conveyance (document) fee, VIN etching (in order not to pay they said we would have to wait for a car to come in because they etch all their cars on arrival!) plus $134 title/registration, $1666 sales tax, $750 in flex cash for an OTD price of $28,547 ($1253 under invoice). After that we discussed our trade, which was a 2000 Accord, 212000 miles, not in the best shape and we decided to be happy with whatever they offered to avoid the hassle of selling it ourselves. We got $500.
No other dealer in our area came closer than $350 under invoice.
The dealer is Hoffman Honda in W. Simsbury CT, and the entire deal was settled online before walking in. They were professional and courteous and I could not have asked for a better process. I highly recommend the dealership!
This thread and the contributions made here helped us to be informed and confident in the deal we made--thanks everyone!
I am in the Southern California area (LA). I am in the market for a 2014 CR-V LX 2WD. Most reliable quote to date is $20,799. Ideally, looking to purchase by tomorrow but in no rush. Is this a good deal or should I keep negotiating? Thanks!
Terrific - love seeing that.
VIN etching is a total rip off imho. One dealer near me charges $199 for it. For a while there many police stations would do it for free, until they realized it did little good. You can get a kit on Amazon for $18.
Looks great! When you are shopping a trade, it makes the deal an entirely different beast. If you felt you got a great offer on the trade, then you scored. I'm wondering if a possible negotiation point on the LX are getting them to upgrade those crappy continental tires that come stock. That's one of the big reasons we went with the EX was the better tire. I know that the tires from the factory usually are garbage, but the Continentals that Honda uses on the LX line are particularly egregious. . On our 2011 LX, those 400 rated tires where shot at 28K miles. There are several CR-V owners websites with multi-page threads complaining about it.
If the OEM tires aren't up to snuff, you can sometimes make arrangements with a tire shop to trade them in. You'd buy the car and immediately drive to the tire shop, get new tires and a nice credit toward the purchase.
Someone near and dear to my heart.
With all the time I've spent getting educated on lease bargain hunting on behalf of my inlaws, personally I haven't bought or leased a car in 22 years. My single owner, 1993 Altima with 212K miles just won't die. I usually drive them till they drop or become too expensive to maintain. Rust is gonna be the end of that old gal though, not mechanical failure.
That is a good price from my dealings in past couple of weeks, but keep reading for deal I got. See if dealer still has flex cash to offer, which if available, they can give 500 to 750 towards your down payment if you finance thru Honda Financial. If they ran out for April, they might get more in May
**I bought last week, same model that you are looking at. **
Total vehicle selling price: $20,150 + Doc fee of 400 + tax (Invoice 22,384 --
** = $2,234 below invoice**) -- all arranged with a regular salesperson (not internet dept) before we ever stepped foot on the lot. They did not have any flex cash to offer. Manager asked me not to advertise this deal on internet, so I won't mention dealer name. Purchased in Las Vegas, NV area.
How I did it: Week 1 -- Called 3 dealers and asked for internet dept. Dealer where I purchased said internet dept was busy, so I dealt with regular salesperson who answered the phone, and glad I did. Received their prices over phone, asked if they had flex cash available, then asked them to email me the quote.
Week 2 -- Day of purchase: Dealer with lowest quoted price did not have color I wanted, so I called another dealer and salesman who had the color, and told him the OTD price from other dealer and that I was giving him first dibs on the sale if he can meet or beat the price, and I'm my way to buy right now from his dealership or the other, and buyer is pre-approved with Honda Financial. Didn't let him know I wanted a color that only he had. He checked with his manager and called me back few minutes later saying they will do it. Got .9% for 60 mo.
Nice car!!
I am looking to get a 2014 CRV EX-L AWD from Pennsylvania. The best deal I think I got so far is the following. Can anyone help validate this is a good deal?
Does this look good and right?
I think my math is wrong. I'm new to this Flex Cash thing and I now understand it to be a down payment on behalf of the dealer to my Net sales price. So here is the new breakdown. Does this seem look good?
draganer,,
Dealer is selling you said vehicle for 950 below invoice price plus flex cash for financing. this is a good deal in........ PA
Online dealer fee of 14 dollars is a bs charge.. Tell dealer to remove this charge.
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
Also, is there anything I can show for or say to prove the online dealer fee is BS?
I dont understand your math question. lowest deal with incentives or not is your best deal.
Call your states consumer Affairs board. Ask if that dealerships online charge is a legit state charge or his own doing...?
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
Basically another dealer is offering me the following:
Selling price 26600
Options 75
Doc fee 131
License fee 10
Online dealer fee 14.5 (putting this in just for apples-to-apples comparison)
Registration 70
Title 22.5
Sales tax 1600.5
Net sales 28523.5
Flex down 0
OTD or my bottom line: 28523.5
With the $750 flex cash offer, my bottom line is $28,250.50. So if this math is correct, the incentive offer gives me a lower bottom line. Does that seem right?
Only thing that I can think of is that DMV charges the dealer $14 to do the paperwork online and they are trying to pass that cost along to the buyer..
And yeah, sounds like a BS fee to me too.
First off is this your breakdown or what the dealer gave you.
You are correct if you add the price of 27,050. that would total 29,000.05 . Flex gets subtracted from your agreed selling price or just like you have it listed above.
Some states might allow dealerships to apply the flex cash after whole deal is taxed then subtract it from the final bill. Ask dealership how they do it..
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
When I bought my 2014 CRV LX AWD last week, not all Honda dealers across eastern PA were clear in explaining how they needed to apply the $750 flex cash. Because it's supposed to be down payment assistance on Honda financing, it got taken off after state tax and tags. Everyone was adding the $14.50 or so PA online filing charge. By the way, the best deals (a week before April ended) were from northeast PA dealers (Motorworld and Burne). And they moved a bunch of LXs, from 30 in my model two weeks ago to just 3 at month's end.
Anyone in the Kansas City area with purchase experience for the 2014 CRV EX-L AWD? What's the best price?
2014 CRV AWD LX offer of 24 month 12k miles/year lease from the dealer. 700 down and 24 payments of 340. The dealer will throw in free oil changes for the first year only if done at his dealership which is not a significant amount.
This translates to paying 9076 for the period. MSRP 25025 Edmunds TMV is 24195.
based on the TMV, I am paying 38% during the first two years for the lease payments. Is this worth it?
If I buy outright with 0 down with a 60 month loan, I would be paying 20% of the TMV (+interest) each year. So paying 38% in the first two years does not sound so bad. Is this correct way to think?
First step is to negotiate MSRP down to TMV. Any other negotiation tips?
Post your question in the CRV leasing forum. You need to find out your models correct residual, money factor, and cap cost to proceed.
Once you have the correct leasing numbers take your models invoice price w destanation charge included and negotiate your best deal below invoice price. Right now in most area's folks can buy a CRV for 1000 to 1600 below invoice price with or without incentives.
When you negotiate for a new vehicle always work down from the dealers invoice price . Never msrp and down.. That leased deal from the dealer for 340 dollars is high.
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
tusharvk I know nothing about leasing but if you choose to buy the CRV outright do NOT rely on TMV. Your goal, as Brian indicates, should be to start at the INVOICE price and work down. First internet quotes I got were at 22800 to 23200 range. Bought our CRV last week in Mass for 21336. Price included transportation but not taxes, doc fees or registration. That is 2178 UNDER invoice. Good luck with your shopping spree. It is a great vehicle.
Is this a good deal? We are in SE Tennessee.
2014 CR-V LX AWD
Price: $20994
Tag & title: $43
Doc fees: $599
Tax: $1470
Thanks!
does anyone have a good suggestion for a dealer in chicagoland? looking to purchase/lease a 2014 EX-L. someone who is good to deal with and got great pricing
posted it there; someone suggested to post here.
So, MF is provided from the dealer. Residual value comes from edmunds? where can I obtain cap cost?
Even taking the invoice price, how much should be paid over the 2 year period. Paying 10%/year of 20% per year?
It's hard to compare leasing vs. purchasing, based on a percentage of MSRP. Yes, if you pay off a 60 month loan, you've paid for 20% of the vehicle per year, but when you are done (especially with a CR-V), the car is still worth 30-35% of it's original price.. While, if you pay 40% of the price for a two year lease, it's worth nothing to you, at lease end.
Either way, a 36 month lease of a CR-V is going to be a better value, by far.. (than 24 month).
