You could be right - I purchased a car on the last day of the year in 1998 and later found that the books didn't close for the manufacturer until the 4th of January (the 1st fell on the New Year's Day holiday, which was a Friday). Maybe the dealer will tell you if you ask.
Guys, I need your help. I want to finance new 2014 CRV 4WD EX-L w/ Navigation. A NJ dealer has quoted 30,925 as the final Out of door price (MRSP 31,450 and internet selling price 27,439), Is this a good deal ? I am trying to save a little money here. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks
In your case it definitely makes sense financially to go about your purchase like stated.. Your plan helps you save money tax wise. . Most dealerships end there 4th quarter on the Dec, 31st. Unless the manufacturer Corporation extends it a few more days. Its uncommon but it could happen.
The question is will dealers tell you? .. Probably not.
I have found over 45 years of buying vehicles that end of Dec, is like the Superbowl of car buying.
I like to buy my new vehicles 2 ways.
1- Buy the upcoming year in Nov, or Dec.
2- Buy the current year at the very end of. Usually when I do this my saving is substantial. I drive the vehicle for a couple of years while minimizing my depreciation on that vehicle before selling.
Buying a new vehicle is the worst investment we could make Financially. With depreciation values and wear and tear on them.
Especially someone like me who changes my vehicles every 3 years or sooner.

If you trade your car back to the dealer does your state allot that savings to be taking off your property tax .
Example: CRV = 28k otd minus the 12k trade reducing to 16k otd for the sale of the crv.
What state are you in VA?????

Thanks for the info. I think in your last post you meant sales tax. Yes, in your example I would only have to pay sales tax on the 16k. But the good thing is the 2 transactions (selling the old and buying the new) do not have to take place as a trade into the dealer. In MO, you pay the sales tax when you register the car at the DMV. So if they are two separate transactions you just bring the bill of sale from your old vehicle when register your new vehicle and you will pay sales tax on the net 16k.
If you did mean property tax in your last post please clarify your question as I am not sure what you were asking.
And the reason I think their year end might extend a day or two into the next year is because the annual December Honda Days usually extend to Jan 2 or 3 as can be seen in the below link from auto trader.

Brian: could you please help me as well ? thanks
I don't know about the individual dealer's year end date... .but, it's likely that any special sales program that Honda is running will go through Monday, January 5th... That's just the way they usually do things...

Yes................. this is not a bad deal for NJ. doc fee's are high in NJ but at 1965 below invoice should put you at 1500 to 1600 below invoice price after paying dealers doc fee charge. Find out what this dealers doc fee charge is and subtract it from your below invoice price.. Post dealer and info after your purchase. This will help the other forum members looking in your area.
Invoice price w dest charge on your model is $ 29,404

If your trying to include a special option pck. its best to negotiate dealers invoice price on these items along with the sale of the vehicle. Put it all together make one price and negotiate from that price. By you letting dealers give you quotes on your accessories will lead to pricing all over the map . Be direct. tell all dealers what price will get it done for the sale that moment.
shoot for invoice price included on all your added accessories in the vehicle plus negotiating the sale on your model between 1300 to 2000 below invoice. This price will depend on several key factor's How good you could negotiate ,your area, and dealers supply and demand on there lots.

Thank you for your reply. The final OTD price quoted by a dealer is 30,800 (No accessories except that comes with the EX-L model). He said that he is selling the car 1300 below the invoice price. What I don't understand (its my first car and and my first job) that how can a dealer sell a car below the invoice price and still earn profit ? Could you please enlighten us? I asked him that I would pay 29,500 but he refused to come down to that price.
The "main" way a dealer can sell below invoice is because of holdback. But there's lots of other manufacturer incentives and bonuses that lower the dealer cost that we don't know about.
Invoice pricing doesn't mean what it used to, but it's still another number to pay attention to.
Surprising tips for car shopping in Internet age (USA Today)
Meanwhile, relax (assuming you have wheels). The dealer has your contact info and you can take a couple of weeks to shop other Honda dealers and competing SUVs. If the dealer gets hungrier, they'll call. Or you can wait until closer to the end of the month to make another offer.
There are hidden sale's incentives/ rebates that dealerships receive thru out the year from the Honda Corp. or vehicles manufacturer that you don't know about. Adding onto those incentives ...... Buy a vehicle with added accessories,... dealer makes money . Finance the car thru them..... dealer makes money. Pay dealers doc fee charge,...... dealer makes money. Buy extended warranty,..... dealer makes money, Service your vehicle after warranty,..... dealer makes lots of money.. All these little things add up.
Imagine how many people buy a vehicle and the dealer has already installed accessories in it.. Like splash guards, pin striping , cargo mat, door edge, window tint, rear spoiler, under body kits, auto remote starter, paint sealant, nitrogen in tires..lol..., Sunroofs and the list goes on. They all add up. 300 hundred here... 500 there... uneducated buyers paying 800 dollars. Times that by hundreds of thousand vehicles thru out the year.
Most vehicles have a dealers hold back of 2 or 3 % of the vehicles invoice price or msrp price. Dealers get this money back after selling you the vehicle from their manufacturer.
You could read up on Dealer holdbacks on the Edmunds home page.
The dealer hold back on your model and that dealers doc fee charge is close to 1000 dollars profit.
To really answer your question we really don't know the true dealers invoice price of these vehicles. Our guide is only the prices the company wants us to know. That's what we go buy.

Open road Honda on Route 1, New Jersey are the BIGGEST CROOKS. Their sales rep Michelle B [non-permissible content removed] has been calling me since february to sell a CRV. She emailed me the invoice price and mentioned that she would price match and beat every dealers price by $250. My biggest mistake was that I trusted her. I go to their showroom and am told 3 additional charges that are "mandatory" on top of invoice price (Graduate, military and accessory package $500 each) When I told the sales rep (Jerry S [non-permissible content removed]) that none of this was quoted in Michelle's email. He adamantly denied. He said that she doesn't know. How can a internet sales agent doesn't know what she is committing to customers, and why do they hire such people. I showed him Michelle's email about price-matching, to which he said that they need the actual quote and email will not work. I am stunned by the hypocritical and dishonest behavior of the internet and the store sales representatives. Even if you do not buy the car and just step into the showroom, the internet sales representative earns her commission. So please don't waste your time going to this showroom.
OPEN ROAD Honda IN NEW JERSEY
I wish you would of asked. They are slimy as dealerships come. They... lie, lie, lie . Waste your time dealership . last year open roads manager told me he would match a price. I asked him to fax me the buyers order I'll buy it that moment. after he wasted a hour he calls me back and says his fax machine is not working come down. I said tomm. will be fine fax it then. next day I bought the vehicle from where I was going to buy vehicle and never heard from manager again. I know there game . They are bad people over there trust me they get over on many buyers with there price lie's. Telling folks.... just come down we will beat any offer by 500 dollars..
Glad you posted that.

These are the worst Honda dealers on the planet. I use every one of these dealers as guinea pigs.

I gave these dealerships 100 of chances over the years to sell me a car/ suv .. I'd usually hang up and laugh every time with there clueless ways or lying efforts..

I am in the market for 2014 CRV AWD EX-L with Nav. I got several offers from the Boston area dealers.... the lowest is $27,480 includes dest. charge (taxes, fees and registration extra). I have been checking with this forum and this seems like a good deal. I read that the 2015 CRV (with minor changes) is due in November. Just wanted to see if this is a great deal.
your price is right in line with July. 1924 below invoice minus dealers doc fee charge should put you in the 1500 plus below invoice price range.
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
I received below offer in IL. Is this a good deal?
2014 Honda CRV EX AWD - $27,125
Internet Special - $23,956 (destination included), DOC Fee - $166.27, EFF - $25,Tax - $1,787, Plates - $196 (new)
OTD - $26,130
Not a bad price at all 1563 below invoice... minus dealers 166 doc fee to get actual below invoice price. If you hold out til the end of the month you may save a few more dollars. Otherwise don't wait buy.

How is the lease offer 350 a month with 0 down, tax and destination included for crv exl for 12k miles per year for 36 mos in NJ??? Anyone please help
Go to CRV leasing and post in there. Find out what the money factor, residuals and cap costs are on 12k miles. Then check to make sure dealer used those same numbers. Same rule applies whether you lease or buy. Get the lowest selling price for vehicle then run the numbers. . In NJ a fair number to buy/ lease is 1200 to 1500 below dealers invoice on your model CRV. Find out all this info from dealer then post it in the leasing forum. Try Auto-sport Honda in Bridgewater, Garden state, DCH Paramus to name a few dealers ........CRV EXL, AWD Model
Invoice on above model, w/ dest charge = 28,000 minus 1500 off this price. this price would exclude dealers doc fee charge, taxes, and tags rounding out your OTD pricing.
26,500 is your target price to buy lease . If you feel your a good negotiator definitely try to buy/ lease lower .. I would. get as many dealerships involved as your willing to travel. pit one dealer against the next. That is how you will make your best deal.
Check out Weymouth Honda home page lease calculator. There vehicle model prices on leases are very close to if not the right numbers on leasing. just sign in then you could punch in the numbers..
Good luck

@raj070, here's the link - 2014 Honda CR-V Lease Questions
Thanks for the help guys!!! Long time lurker 1st time poster. After stumbling on this site, I felt I had the proper tools to negotiate a fair deal on 2014 crv exL.
I got multiple quotes from cars.com, truecar etc. Also visited 2 different dealers, and had 2 completely different experiences, which is why I realize Id probably never set foot in a dealership again, unless Im test driving.
Finally, stumbled upon a direct leasing co. which cuts out the dealer. and still leasing thru honda financial. 5 min phone call, quick credit application and I just received my vin #. I take delivery monday.

Just bought a 2014 Honda CRV EX AWD in central VA
Looking to buy a new 2014 CRV-EXL AWD (No Navigation). Can you please tell me what a good OTD price is (including tax and all other fees)? Not looking for any other extras, no trade in. Live in Northern NJ but willing to drive to a PA dealer if pricing is better.
Trying to streamline the negotiation process -- would just like to negotiate the OTD price to keep transaction as simple as possible. Whatever they need to do to back into the OTD number is fine with me as long as the OTD price is fair (and is inclusive of all costs). Is 30k OTD a reasonable offer? Thank you.
This is what I got from a local Boston dealer. The prices are the internet prices with dest. charge only. EX-L AWD for $23906. EX-L AWD with DVD for $26975. EX-L AWD with Nav for $27708.
It is crazy to add $3800 more for the Nav or $3000 more for the DVD. We might closing a deal this weekend for the EX-L AWD with no options.
@lok888
Which dealership are you referring to? The EX-L AWD price of 23,906 is amazing. Are you sure it's not the EX AWD? For that price, I would drive up to Boston to purchase. Please let me know. Thanks
I live in Maryland and am in the final negotiation stages for a CR-V, EX-L, NO-NAV, NO-RES
Quoted an internet price of $25,795 Got their "protection package" (nitrogen tires, pinstriping, splash guards, etc) down from $995 to $495
Cost plus fees $1100 will be $27,294
Deal or No Deal?
I am a first time poster. I live in TX and am looking for a 2014 CRV EX-L 2WD (no navigation or res). I got valuable information and tips from this forum.
After some online requests and negotiating with a couple of dealers, the best I have received so far is:
Sales price (incl. destination) - 25085.67
Documentation - 125
TTL - 1774.67
Options (tint, wheel guards, door handles, ...) - 400
OTD - 27385.34.
Is this a good price? It looks like there is some dealer cash available. The sales price is about $1700 below invoice (if destination is included).
Should I deal or try to squeeze a couple of hundred more?
If there is dealer cash.............. yes

Good afternoon everybody ,long time looker going to make the move have been following this forum for some time now looking at a Honda CRV awd EXL in the Boston area curious LOK888 what dealer that was because I am in at that price, I am in the Boston area, also Brian 125 I saw one of your posts awhile go it was a letter that we should send to the internet sales dept. can not seem to find it could you repost it or email it to me.
Thanks Dano
@dan49, this may be the post you saw.
It seems like I am getting a different information every time I sent email (through Honda and dealers' web sites) to the same dealer for the price. This time my email could be answered by the internet sale people. Or it could be the sale manager next time. They all gave me a different price on the same car with the same options, may a little different amount. My question is how do I know if I will get the best price next time I email them?
Finally closed my Honda CRV deal. Here are the details. 2014 Honda CRV EXL 2WD (no res or nav) MSRP - 27695, Invoice - 26000. Destination - 830
OTD price - 26950
Selling price - 24987. (includes destination and options). Options include tint, wheel guards, splash guards. Deal already had nitro and paint protection package installed.
Dealer documentation - 150
TTL and other fees - 1813.
Deal involved some dealer cash. It also helped that I had bought some cars from this dealership group earlier.
Overall, I am happy with the deal as it is 1843 below invoice (including dealer cash and not counting options). Thanks to this group, I learnt a lot about negotiation tips and tricks.
Sweet - congrats!
What is the fair price for a CRV EXL AWD at Tampa Bay area (OTD not include the TTL)? Do you have any recommendation of the dealer in town? Thanks.
Hi, This is my first time posting. Whenever I go in to the dealer, they almost force you to buy their cars today. I pre-financed the money from Credit Union and went in to the dealer and asked that I want to have the 2014 Honda CR-V EX 2WD for 25k OTD. they did the calculations and came back with the OTD $25,530.00 I do not know if it is a good deal to take or not. Please let me know.
2014 Honda CR-V EX 2WD
OTD $25,530.00 (this includes all fees like doc fee, dealer fee, ad fees, Tax, Title, and License Fees)
Location: Southern California (Buena Park) 8% Tax
Does anyone have a recommendation on a Honda dealer in Northeast Illinois? We are just starting the process of looking for a Honda CRV LX 2WD and want to start the internet price search. I was hoping someone on the board had good luck with a dealer around us. We are located in Joliet, IL. Thanks for anyone's help.
You can check Dealer Reviews while waiting for responses in here.

Is this a good deal?
Thank you all (especially Edmunds) for this thread, great info. Need quick advice. So the consensus is try to get the best deal on the 2014 models rather than waiting for the 2015 because of minor cosmetic change/upgrades?
We've been in the market for a new car for about a month and half now in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. Started out with the a Prius Five but that didn't panned out with the dealer's cash and special financing gimmicks. Plus the uncertainty of the newly redesigned 2015 Prius models made us wanted to wait.
Wife has always like the CR-V, thus drew me to this thread. We're now looking at 2014 CR-V EX-L AWD with Navigation (Mountain Air color). My question is how long should I wait to get the best possible deal on the 2014 model, assuming the 2015 CR-V's will be out in a couple of months? Currently in the Carolinas, Honda has the Summer Clearance with the 0.9% APR-60 mos special financing. Will there be better incentives if I wait a month or two, opinion warranted? Or should I test the water this week (using brian125 recommendation/approach) and finalized the deal on the 31st? I'm comfortable with the negotiation process, 5th vehicle. I can wait until the end of the year if need be, very patient. Any thoughts is much appreciated. TIA.
I live in Westchester NY area - suburbs of NYC. I have visited two different Honda dealerships and contacted at least two more. I am looking for a EX-L CR-V without navigation or DVD. Without any negotiating I have been quoted 27150.00 (destination included) cash price and 27650.00 (destination included) finance price. In a second dealer I was quoted 27665.00 (destination included). This dealer said the OTD price would be 29530.00 + DMV fees (~300.00).
I am wondering how much more wiggle room I have, especially in the NYC area. I am not in a rush to purchase.
mdunne - I assume it is an AWD model. The lowest quote that I got is $26334 (includes dest. charge) for AWD EX-L with no Nav or DVD in Boston area.
Yes sorry AWD EXL CR-V
