Thanks @brian125! Sales price was 29,150, then $500 recent grad makes it $28,650.. Doc fee is $188. It's in the upfront charges number I provided. Dealer said extra $30 was a t-tag fee. And I will call honda about the incentives Monday! Good idea!

Yes, destination charges are included in 18939. This was via Internet email
Post on this new page your buying State , Name of dealership , and model w/ price again. you have also made a excellent deal. Does not seem you had much trouble getting over 2k in your area on a emailed price quote.
Posting this info gives back to the other members in your area hopefully they can get a similar deal..

Here is what I could tell you. Your invoice price w dest charge = 30,419
dealer selling price = 29,150 with guards and locks = 1267 below invoice price. If there are some other charges dealer added to the 29,150 then your below invoice number gets lower.
You did a................... No- No................ by leaving a deposit without agreeing on a final sale price or knowing if it was a good price... Please never do this again in future new car purchases/ leases. . By you giving a down payment with a written price by a dealer loses a lot of your negotiating/ leveraging powers to negotiate a lower price . Dealer scared you into thinking they will sell the vehicle.
Negotiating a lower price may be a task now. Make sure that dealer applies your 500 grad/ rebate off that $29,150 price... That puts you in a more respectable buying number.
If anything looks or smells fishy about this deal make sure you walk away.
Thanks for the response and advice @brian125. The deposit is refundable and I did agree on a final sales price with the numbers I outlined above. So is the "$2k-2500 below invoice" mantra supposed to be before incentives? So I should really be looking to get that + $1500 dealer cash for a total of $3500 under invoice pricing? Meaning about $26,500 final sales price?
Sorry but I thought it was a deal. I went back and forth a lot to get down that far. There aren't hardly any v6 coupes with navi within 100 miles. :-/
Purchased 2014 Accord EX-L without navigation on 08/23/14. List price $29,060. Purchase price $23721.36 including destination fee. Doc fee $398. Tax $711.64. Tags/title $69. OTD $24,900 in Aberdeen NC. Got 0.9% financing. Thanks for the advice I found on this board.
Our on the road price with a DC registration was 25,300 with .9 Honda Financing for 5 years.
Breakdown
Sales Price: $23,880.19 (includes $1500 in rebates...but does not include Graduate or Military. $790 shipping is included here)
6% Sales Tax: $1432.81
Title Reg: $183
Tire Recycling: $4 (I have no idea why, but it is there)
Dealer Credit: -$500....this was done at the dealership level, and was not a Honda rebate. In order to get the price I wanted, the salesman had to apply $500 in service award points (I don't have my car serviced there).
So my effective sales price before tax was 23,380.19(but tax was based on 25,880.10) + Tax, Tag, Registration.
We were $3269.81 below invoice.
Made a typo on the above, tax was based on 23,880.19 - not 25,880.10.
Again, thank you everyone who has contributed to this forum, especially brian125. So much awesome information.

How I got to this price.
Thursday night, I sent out a request for prices to about 7 local dealerships detailing the specific details and features of the car mentioned above. To summarize the email: "we are buying this car this weekend. Please provide me with your absolute best offer." Most of them responded and prices varied greatly. I contacted a few dealerships with the lower prices and mentioned...my current lowest price is xxxxx. Most lowered their price to match or beat the lowest offer. I played this game most of Friday. Once I reached a point where the dealerships wouldn't go any lower, I figured that I was near the bottom.
At this point, I called a salesman at Jim Coleman Honda in Clarksville, MD that I had worked with a few times in the past. He knows that I am an aggressive price shopper and that when I call I am serious about buying, but that there wont be a wide margin on the deal. I gave this salesman my lowest current offer and told him.....if you beat it by $200, I will be in tomorrow to buy the car at 11am.
He beat it by $200 and we bought a car on Saturday.
Congrats, I think you got a great deal. Would you please tell me the name of the salesman? No LAST NAME please. I'm in MD and looking to buy in the next 4 days or so. Thank you?
How come I did not find this forum earlier, but hope it's not too late. Specially thanks to Brian, but also other folks who input so much valuable data and comments. I spent 3 hour reading almost the entire thread.
I am going to get a Accord EX-L 4 cylinders with Navi tomorrow in the Bay area, CA. Since I'm not in a big rush. One of the internet managers that I contacted (only a couple) called me back and quoted me an OTD price of 28400. I confirmed with him couple of the times that, this is the only price I will pay and plus the Financing, I told him no option/accessories are needed, so the breakdown I think it should be close to:
Total Fair Purchase Price $25,900 (with Doc, Destination)
Taxes (estimated) $2,202
Estimated DMV Fees $298
Current Rebates/Cash Back $0
Out-the-Door Target Price $28,400
According to KBB, the invoice price is $28,269. Should I say i'm getting 2300 below invoice price? can you guys please confirm?
The suck part is I did not get a written quote and put down a $500 credit card deposit, (The internet manager confirmed that it's refundable, but on the phone only), to get the car color that I want to the shop. If anything goes wrong tomorrow, I'm going to fight for the refund.
Any recommendation will be great help and sincerely appreciated!

28,269 is the invoice price so your numbers are correct. I would find out what your selling dealers doc fee charge is then see how much below that 2369 it takes you. a high doc fee added onto your below invoice number hurts. Ask dealership to throw in 3 or 4, free oil changes, maybe splash guards on vehicle if there not already. Or a trunk liner to sweeten this deal. This is a good deal in the bay area. What ever this dealers doc fee's are you want to take that number back by lowering your vehicle selling price.
I am planning to buy Accord Sport. I live in Santa clara the price quote i got is 2100 including destination. + doc(80)+TTL.
Pls. let me know if this is good deal? How much can more be negotiated. I can see members posted their purchases much lower than this.
Good deal. so far ..................... if you negotiate some more you could save a few more dollars if you shopped around.
invoice w/ dest charge on the sport model is 23,225 minus 21,000 puts you at 2225 below dealers invoice price. . Minus the 80 dollar doc fee charge off the 2225 below invoice number for your true buying number.

Hi Brian and other members can you please give feedback on the following offer in Chicago area for 2014 Honda Accord EX-L(without navigation):
Base Price (including destination): 24150
Accessories: 300 (splash guards + wheel locks. The best I got from other dealers is 223 but base price is more for them so 300 seems to be OK.)
Doc Fee : 191 (166 + 25. This is fixed by law in IL)
Tax: 2076
License & Title : 196
Total OTD : 26913
Dealer mentioned price is good till Sep 02.
Invoice price on your model is ....24,287 What is the dealers selling price to you.
Cant be 24,150. Do we have the right model listed to buy? You should be able to get close to 2k below invoice price or better on this model vehicle in IL.
Apply the buying tactic's that we talk about in this forum.

Thank you Brian! appreciate your feedback! I'll definitely try to get more. At this point. I'm only worrying about if they can still ripped me off by the financing rate and the hidden fee, since everything was negotiated via phone. My credit is very good, so I should be able to get 0.9%, the special APR financing. Can the dealer insist that I only can get 1.9% or higher to get some more profit?
Brian, I searched some posts here for EX-L model and I found the Invoice+Destination cost mentioned as 26650. So I am wondering on the number 24287 that you gave.
Brian,
I'm hoping you can help guide. I'm looking to purchase a 2014 v6 Honda cpe in SFL (no addt'l options) w/out Nav. this month. Last month I tried and got discouraged. I offered in reach $25,880 including Dest. charge of $790) as my "non-negotiating" term + Doc Fee $699 and TTL. I waited until the 31st to send out emails to internet mgrs. I received a response from 1 dealership saying they can match the $25,880 but wanted to add Options of $380 and I wasn't interested. I received a call from another dealership who also said they can match but when I got there, it turned out to be a "used" vehicle. Left dishearten and discouraged and said I will try again the month.
I'm not sure if I should go with $2200 below invoice which I believe is $28,798 in my area including Dest. or try again with $25,880 since I did get responses last month, but this time remain firm on no options and making sure I'm not fooled again with a used vehicle.
Also- I don't know when to disclose trade in. My car is OLD.. 98 Altima over 193K miles. I will take anything for it, but I'm more interested in deal. I don't qualify for any of their incentives except for APR .

Thanks Brian again. I'm almost good to go, but my budget allowed me to go for 0.9% only. If the dealer insists I can only get 1.9%. Do you think I can continue and negotiate the sell price down a bit more? currently, my OTD price (25900) is running 2369 below the invoice price for ex-l 4l with navi, which is 28269.
Purchased an Accord EX (no extras) in MD for 21,800 (includes destination and dealer fees, before taxes, tags, and title). Did not qualify for military or student discounts. Without any effort dealers would go to 22,200. Took a moderate amount of effort to get to 21,800. A few dealers would match the price once I showed them I had a legitimate offer. May have been able to negotiate lower by getting more counter offers, but I didn't want to continue to go back and forth and also preferred my closest dealer

Suggestions????
Your v6 exl coupe model is 28,798 including destination charge. Your offer price to buy may have been to high at close to 3k below dealer invoice for most dealers.. Lower your offer price if no dealers are biting.. Coupes are not selling like the other models. 1800 to 2200 below dealers invoice may be the target range in Florida after considering the 699 doc fee charge. Expect to pay dealer for some add on accessories. If you consider any accessories on coupe models shoot for invoice price or close to them.... . not full msrp. Your model is limited on dealers lots . Dealers have the upper hand and price leverage. Unless you find that dealer at months end needing to make there sales numbers.
With high doc fee's like yours......To get the full 2200 below dealers invoice . Your vehicles selling price would need to be around 2900 below dealers invoice.
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some thoughts on an extended warranty for the 2014 Accord EX we just purchased. I said "no" in the back room when we bought (he was offering it at $1380). We keep our cars for 8-10 years so I like the thought of an extended warranty especially with all the new technology. Any thoughts on 3rd party extended warranties for the Honda Accord? Thank you!
zooeybee, I am going to 2nd benjaminh. Skip the 3rd party and go with Honda Care. I did the price quote online for Saccucci Honda and Hyannis Honda. They both have a 8yr/120,000 Honda Care extended warranty. Saccucci was 1140 and Hyannis was 1075. You cannot go wrong. My guess is that 1380 was not for the 8yr/120. It is my understanding the dealers try to get 2000+ for it. Bob from Hyannis emailed me about 15 minutes after I submitted the quote. I asked for and he sent me a sample of what the warranty covered. Easy process. It was hard to pass up, but I decided to pass. Will see if I begin to waiver before I hit 6,000 miles.
I know this forum is for 2014 Honda Accords, but I'm anxious to purchase a 2015 (I'll be trading in my Odyssey). Any idea when those will be available? Any day now is what I've been reading. I assume most of the incentives will still be geared towards the 2014's to get rid of those. Is that an accurate assumption? Will the 2015's be sold at invoice or is there still hope of getting them slightly below that?

We won't know until the incentives come out.. No information on the 2015s, yet... Possibly after Labor Day.

Team up for savings ? I plan to purchase a 2014 Accord this month. I will be starting to send emails to dealers tonight. I can travel to neighboring states. Was wondering if there is anyone else who want to team up so we can haggle for group buying with a single dealer. If so please Message me.

I am happy to report back about my buying experience here in Houston, TX. I took the day off from work on Friday 8/22 to focus on this car buying process and it definitely payed off. I took @brian125's advice and did not set foot inside a dealership until my price was already negotiated! Being that I'm a female and would be going alone, I didn't feel like the bs that I went through 2 weeks ago on my first attempt. I worked from home via email and phone with about 4 different internet sales managers.
I am the proud new owner of a 2014 Honda Accord EX-L V6 and this was the breakdown:
Base offer: $25,500
Destination: $790.00
Sub Total: $26,290.00
State Sales Tax: (6.25%) $1,643.00
Doc Fee: $150.00
Inspecition Fee: $39.50
License & Title: $99.55
Inventory Tax: $56.00
Balance on vehichle: $28, 278.05 trade $500.00
Final balance= $27,778.05
If I had to do anything different it would have been to sell my car to a private dealer. My trade in was a 2000 civic with 186,000 miles on it and the AC had just went out plus my check engine light was on. I was pushing for $1,000 at the least because when I did the appraisal on Edmunds it said I would be able to get about $900 for it at a dealer. I think I was just over going back and forth about it, so I let it be. I was just happy that my base offer was accepted because everybody else I worked with was not trying to hear $25,500. I knew I was pushing it but tried anyway and it worked. After that price was accepted, I pushed it a little further with another internet manager from another dealer and proposed 24,900 just to see where it would get me. Clearly that was a no-go but I just wanted to see. My final offer with him was $25,200 and he just let me know that he could NOT do that! I was fine with it because I knew another dealer had already accepted my offer of $25,500. I just wanted to test the waters! lol!
Another thing that almost got me in the end was the finance manager. Please do your homework on the warranties because they will sucker you in and you won't realize it until you see each line item and see that you are right back at the price you negotiated down from. I ended up not falling for that trick in the end and we rearranged some things before the final sale was done.
Big thanks to this forum and @brian125 for all the advice! I'm absolutely loving my new ride!!!
You did a very nice job negotiating and received a wonderful deal. Your target price was achieved.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on what incentives dealers are giving us. Can you tell the forum what incentive's a new car buyer may be entitled to outside of military and grad rebates..
If You say NO to anything being sold in the finance OFFICE YOU WILL BE WAY AHEAD OF THE GAME. Unless you have research pricing and did your homework like @thisiztra08 said.
I just agreed to a deal with Continental Honda in Countryside, IL. Here's the deal. Honda Accord EXL $26,900 invoice with dest. Car price $23,975 + 166.27 Doc + $25 ERT + $196 New Plates + Taxes = $26,100 OTD. This represents $2,675 below Invoice. They also threw in wheel locks. Thank you Brian for all your posts on this forum. I basically copied your email and sent out to every dealer in the Chicagoland area and after much go around, I made my deal. FYI, Continental is a fairly small dealership compared to the big three, which are Valley Honda in Naperville, Schaumburg Honda and Honda of Lisle. None of the big three would even touch this deal. Happy Negotiating everyone!!!!!!!

I got that quote from Brilliance Honda of Crystal Lake. I think you are getting a pretty good deal from Continental Honda. A few weeks back I also tried Continental Honda but their EX-L quote was higher than others at that time so I did not bother much. Also they were not having the color that I was looking for in their inventory. You are right about Honda of Lisle, Valley Honda and Schaumburg Honda.
I have been trying to get nj / ny dealers to come close to 19300 for a lx cvt. The lowest price that I got was 20120 + tax DMV. Dose anybody have any recommendations to get the price lowered
1k below dealers invoice is good. People in this forum have been getting close to 1500 + below in the Boston area. get more dealerships involved and try to get at least 300 more dollars.. You should be able to pull that off.
Hi Brian,
I am going to try and buy a 2014 EX CVT sedan this weekend in the Boston area. Is $2000 + doc fee below invoice still the target price? Can I then $500 off for Loyalty cash? Any suggestions on which are the best dealerships ? Can I combine the Loyalty cash with the 0.9% financing?
@brian125 Honestly, I wasn't told much about any incentives outside of the military and grad ones, which I knew I didn't qualify for.
I do have a quick question for you and anyone else who recently bought a Honda. Did anyone buy the tire warranty? I'm actually considering buying it because some of the roads here in Houston are horrible and it may actually benefit me in the long run. I'd rather just pay for it up front than tie it in with my note anyway. A friend of mine told me she bought it with her car and it definitely paid off. Your thoughts?

If anything looks or smells fishy about this deal make sure you walk away.
good luck

Doc Fee : 191 (166 + 25. This is fixed by law in IL)
Tax: 2076
License & Title : 196
Total OTD : 26913
Dealer mentioned price is good till Sep 02.
Thanks.
What ever this dealers doc fee's are you want to take that number back by lowering your vehicle selling price.
good luck.

Good deal. so far ..................... if you negotiate some more you could save a few more dollars if you shopped around.
invoice w/ dest charge on the sport model is 23,225 minus 21,000 puts you at 2225 below dealers invoice price. . Minus the 80 dollar doc fee charge off the 2225 below invoice number for your true buying number.
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
Invoice price on your model is ....24,287 What is the dealers selling price to you.
Cant be 24,150. Do we have the right model listed to buy? You should be able to get close to 2k below invoice price or better on this model vehicle in IL.
Apply the buying tactic's that we talk about in this forum.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for replying.

Suggestions????
Sorry I confused you with another posters invoice its 26,650 . This makes your deal good.

I will post some thoughts later.

Thanks Brian. In that case I will plan to go ahead with this offer on 2014 Accord EX-L.
Thanks.
Thank you !
OK...Thanks
Purchased an Accord EX (no extras) in MD for 21,800 (includes destination and dealer fees, before taxes, tags, and title). Did not qualify for military or student discounts. Without any effort dealers would go to 22,200. Took a moderate amount of effort to get to 21,800. A few dealers would match the price once I showed them I had a legitimate offer. May have been able to negotiate lower by getting more counter offers, but I didn't want to continue to go back and forth and also preferred my closest dealer

Thank you!
Don't get third party. HondaCare is what you want. Saccucci honda and others offer big discounts.
zooeybee, I am going to 2nd benjaminh.
Bernardi, Saccucci, and Hyannis are the 3 dealers you will make a good warranty deal with.
make your local dealer match or beat above dealers warranty prices.

What dealer in Chicago gave you this pricing??????
Team up for savings ? I plan to purchase a 2014 Accord this month. I will be starting to send emails to dealers tonight. I can travel to neighboring states. Was wondering if there is anyone else who want to team up so we can haggle for group buying with a single dealer. If so please Message me.
I'm interested. I"m in the Chicago, IL area.
MSRP- $31,415 Dealer Invoice- $28,948 True Market Value- $27,046
This is what I proposed:
Base offer: $25,500
Destination: $790.00
Sub Total: $26,290.00
State Sales Tax: (6.25%) $1,643.00
Doc Fee: $150.00
Inspecition Fee: $39.50
License & Title: $99.55
Inventory Tax: $56.00
Balance on vehichle: $28, 278.05
trade $500.00

Enjoy you new Accord

All,
I just agreed to a deal with Continental Honda in Countryside, IL.

Good job on your new car purchase.. Thanks for posting that above info.. Sometimes you just need to catch the right dealer closer to months end.

Curious on thoughts: LX Model- Automatic. Price is 19220 + 595 Document Fee + DMV Misc. Fee is $300. Is this a good price?
Pretty sure this is a good deal, so I'm planning on buying:
Location: Iowa
2014 Honda Accord LX (CVT)
Selling Price: $19489 [~2100 under invoice]
Doc Fee: 185
Total OTD for me after tax/title/license should be ~$20800
I will also be getting the 0.9% financing.
Dose anybody have any recommendations to get the price lowered
Hi Brian,
I am going to try and buy a 2014 EX CVT sedan this weekend in the Boston area. Is $2000 + doc fee below invoice still the target price? Can I then $500 off for Loyalty cash? Any suggestions on which are the best dealerships ? Can I combine the Loyalty cash with the 0.9% financing?
Thanks so much
@brian125 Honestly, I wasn't told much about any incentives outside of the military and grad ones, which I knew I didn't qualify for.
