Finally bought my 2014 Accord Sport on Friday in Dover, DE:

    Selling Price + Destination: $20,944
    Tax: $788
    Title: $25
    Registration: $160
    Lien: $10
    Processing: $279
    Temporary Tags: $10
    Graduate Program Rebate: ($500)

    Total OTD: $21,716

I could have gotten a lower selling price, but the color that I was interested in was almost all sold out in my area. I could definitely see supply and demand at play because some dealers (especially the ones in NJ) were unwilling to budge on the price. Overall I feel like I got a good deal with the College Graduate Program and 0.9% financing.

What is the condition of the engine oil if the car sits on the lot for many months?
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
    edited December 2014
New Vehicle Still good There is no expiry date on engine oil and there is no difference if it sits in a plastic bottle or in your new engine 3 to 6, 9 months. Its when the engine is used and then you let the oils sit for a long period of time. This will cause problems.

Motor and gear oil last almost indefinite, they do not have an expired time. The issue is the SAE rating and thus oils that sit or are stored normally fail to meet these standards after some years pass.

Used oil, that has gone thru a few or many heating and cooling cycles looses it's properties over time and when sitting will cake up around the edges depending on the air available, but will retain its lubricating properties.

So if a car was test driven infrequently and sits for weeks and months at a time, then there could be a problem. I'm thinking about getting one of the last remaining 2014 models. I hope nothing is wrong with them.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
I sure you wont have any problems. Look on the door jam to see the manufacturers build date.

I waited it out a bit for the 2014 Accord coupe 4 cyl EX-L w/o navi.
I am quoted $23491 + tax + fees, he didn't specify the tax (~8.75% CA) and document fees but said $25940 OTD.
I was wondering if this was a good deal or is there room for haggling? In end of Nov, all of the dealers let me walk away so I assume they already hit their sales target. I also read the 2015 forums and the price is not significant so I'm not sure what to do.

Invoice price on your model with dest/ charge = 26,749. Your price is @ 3256 below dealers invoice. This is a very good deal. Make the deal.

Make sure the price included the 820 destination charge. If it did not then you have more room to negotiate the price down some. Your doc fee's are only 80 dollars.

@brian125 could you please tell me if the following quoted price is good?
    2014 Accord Touring
    Vehicle Price: $34270
    Dealer Savings: - $5581.96
    ------------------------
    Vehicle Selling Price: $28688.04
    Sales Tax: $2591.74
    Weight Fee: $24.00
    Tag/Reg fees $258.00
    Flat ad/County fee $20.00
    Electronic Filing $29.00
    Smog Abatement Fee: $20.00
    Documentation Fee: $80.00
    Tire/Battery/MVWEA: $8.75
    ------------------------------
    Balance: $31,719.53

They have only one color available with 90 miles on it which is ok but there is another dealer who has the desired color. The second dealer so far has only provided the Selling price of $28866 and not the OTD price. Also second dealers car has 250 miles on it.

Above pricing was provided without any sort of haggling right after the test drive. I am thinking about asking for OTD pricing of $30k. or ask for the above pricing for 2015 model with desired color. Do you think that will be unrealistic?

    Please let me know.

The 2014 model with 90 miles is being discounted 2714 below dealers invoice. Absolutely try for a few more dollars and some dealership freebie's like.... Free oil changes, pin stripping , all season mats, cargo tray, etc..

Your offer of 30k will be rejected that's another 1700 off your already 2714 below price.. 300 to 500 dollars more would be a homerun. I would see if you could buy a 2015 model your choice color for 1k to 1500 below. This target price might be possible in CA at months end.

On the 2nd deal vehicle with 250 miles I would email that dealers internet mgr. and tell him/ her you will buy said model for 3k or more below dealers invoice and hold vehicle with a credit card deposit. If dealership agrees have them give you the total OTD pricing . You could have this dealer fax you over the buyers order and complete the sale via email / fax. Let dealer 2 know that at xx dealership you will buy there 2014 model for the same price but you want the color they have. Tell dealer 2 beat xx Honda's price I buy right NOW................Play the Game .......... Like a good game of poker..

Never tip your hand till the very end of this month. Make the dealers blink first.. You have the most buying leverage this week coming up.

    keep me posted

Finally pulled the trigger today and wanted to post...I think I did pretty well and am happy with my deal :-)

2014 Accord Sport Sedan CVT (mudflaps, pinstripes, full tank of gas
    $20,227.36 (price with dest)
    $300 dealer processing
    $974 tax
$295 (tags, registration, lein fee, and tire recycle fee)
    $21,500 out the door
Traded my 2003 Accord for $4000 and financed $17,500 with 0.9%

Deal was from Pohanka Honda in Maryland...this was their last 2014 Accord Sport Sedan. (Another dealer who I'd been working with couldn't come within $1200 of this deal for the same vehicle!) Several other dealers had quoted about $500 more than this but didn't have the color I wanted.

Cheers and happy shopping to all!

    Hi Brian,

I'm trying to get an 2015 Accord LX FWD as an alternative if I cannot get a 2014 CRV LX FWD at a good price. I'm in Houston.

I got a verbal offer of $21,500 OTD price. The invoice price at KBB/Edmunds is $21,786 (including destination fee $820). Tax is 6.25%. If I try to back out the purchase price, it's probably ~ $20,050 (incl. destination). Is that a good price and should I trust the verbal offer? How should I pursue this further in the next couple days?

Another dealer offered (in writing) $22,500 for 2015 Accord LX FWD, which includes $411 dealer-installed accessories (tinted windows + nitrogen tire). I have a 2014 CRV LX FWD at the same OTD price (purchase price is $20,697, which I thought is $700-$1,000 too high).

    Thanks!

    @intx888,

    @brian125,

Yes, I chose to go for a new 2015 Accord LX FWD/CVT today. Purchase price is $19,825 (incl. destination), Tax $1,240, doc fee $150, License, Title, etc. $185. The final OTD $21,400. I don't know if it's a good deal or not.

It comes with tinted windows, nitrogen, trunk tray and 2 years of oil changes. It's also said to have 3-year LuxeCare package, but I don't believe that's worth the $299 as marked on the sticker and can't really tell. The dealer mentioned casually that it has alloy wheels, but I don't know. From what I read on Edmunds or KBB, only EX and above models have alloy wheels and LX is supposed to have just steel wheels. They look the same to my uneducated eyes:-). We picked the exterior color and did a test drive of the car a day before.

Your advice and others' posts here have been very helpful!

    Thanks @brian125‌

It turned out that all Accord models have Alloy wheels. I was confused between CR-V and Accord:-)

Greetings all! I'm currently in the market for an Accord sedan. Looking at 2014s (I think there is $1500 in dealer cash for them). From previous posts, it seems like $1900 before taxes for an LX w/ CVT is obtainable? Am I off base here?

If your buying a 2014 model Your target price should be on a very low end 2500 below dealers invoice to as high as 3500 below dealers invoice.

That is a great deal. I picked my up 2015 Accord EX-L at a selling price of $25,585 (white/ivory).

You got a V6 Engine for $1084 more (normally $2075 more over the base EX-L)

Anyone know what's up with the $24 weight fee?
I've seen dealers adding $15-$30 Electronic transmission fees, and now trying to sneak in some BS weight fee ?

Next will be $10 car wash fee, $5 temp sticker .....
