    Brian123,
What do you think will happen when the incentives expire on 11/03/14? (I almost bought a sport at the end of Sept but didn't do to an issue at the dealership).

Brian125...What do you think will happen when the incentives expire on 11/03/14? Will they be extended? improved? reduced?
There are still about 30 new sports within 30 miles of me (Maryland) and I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
1st week of the month is when any new or extended incentives will be known. There is a 1500 cash rebate on the 2014 models. On the 2015 there is only the 0.9 finance rate.

    Hi Brian,

What do you think should be a good price for 2015 Honda accord EX-L in Dallas? Does the price $25,600 seems reasonable to you? I also checked the 2014 prices, and the best I got on 2014 accord EX-L was $23,500; both prices are without options, taxes, destination, etc. Please give me your input. Also, I'm wondering if waiting a few more weeks for 2014 model makes sense? do you think there will be price drop in November or December on the 2014 models? Thanks for your help!

25,600 for a 2015 would be about 396 below dealers invoice price. this is a good deal for Oct. What are the dealers doc fee charge? After paying dealer there doc fee charge this should put you at a Invoice buy on the 2015 model..

Most educated buyers should get close to invoice price or a couple hundred below dealers invoice price in Oct and Nov.

No it makes no sense to wait on buying a 2014 model another month or two. Inventory is dwindling down. Dealer is willing to sell you at over 2300 below for this 2014 model. Prices will not drop much more. As the 2014 models become limited dealers will sell the remaining models to the Uneducated buyers for a lot more than your dealer quote or asking price. Often near end of the year, Oct, Nov, Dec, dealerships will load up the remaining late model vehicles with excessive accessories which pads there pockets with more $$$$$.

If you plan on keeping this vehicle more than 7 years consider the savings on the 2014 model.

Hey brian125! Question, would $19500 +TTL fees be good offer get a 2014 Accord CVT Sport? It's already at the top of my budget and I don't want to offend my salesman and become one of "those" customers. Although, I already feel I am trying to get it near 20k. Thanks and keep up the postive and helpful work you do for us!

Can anyone comment on 2014 Honda accrd EX-L w/o nav price 24,484.00(with dest fee) in illinois. Is it a good price?
  • jake057jake057 Member Posts: 7
hi madjames80, that is a pretty good price, I live in Chicago and I was able to get three dealerships down to 24,161, that was early to mid October, so you might be able to get them down a bit lower. But you have to make sure that they have the exact car in stock. I was negotiating on a certain color, but they sold the car from under me.

    Good Luck!

    Inky.......................................lol.................. I like your enthusiasm

Anything is possible but in the real buying world probably not. Dealers will laugh at your 19,500 offer especially if a dealer has limited sport models on there lot. Your asking for a 3k below dealers invoice. That price might be do-able at the end of DEC, if you catch the right dealership that needs to get there end of the year / 4th quarter sales incentives.

    Invoice price = 22,435 plus 790 dest charge = 23,225.

Start your negotiations at 20k be firm and see how that goes... If need be work your way up from the 20k Number. You lose a lot of leverage after tonight with tomorrow being the 1st of the month.

Let me know how you make out.

I see in the NY/NJ area dealers have mostly EX-L V6 models left of the 2014 Accords. Can I strike a good deal at year end? What should be my target price to get the best deal?
I was looking for a 2014 EX-L but most of them are gone it looks like.

Brian - I see you own a Genesis. How would you compare a Genesis to Accord EX-L V6?
Genesis base is about the same price as Accord EX-L V6?

If you wait till Dec, in the NY area pricing will be better on any left over 2014 models.

Target price range 2k to 3k below.

    Genesis compared to Accord.. I would need to look into a low end Genesis model to see how it stacks up to Loaded Accord model amenity wise...... what I can tell you is ;

The Genesis............... Is bigger inside , much quieter, faster, more luxurious and the Genesis lexicon radio system is to die for with 18 speakers and Amp. Best warranty in the auto Industry. Resale value not as good as a Honda. If you could afford the extra coin I recommend buying a 2014 Genesis.

You could get a awesome deal on a 2014 Genesis. Buying a Genesis is stepping up in class.

2015 Accord EXL models invoice = 25,996. you still need to add the dest / charge of 790 onto this number

Dest/ charge of 790 dollars is added onto the vehicles invoice price. All buyers pay this charge not the dealerships.

Usually dealerships tack this charge onto the final bill of sale after a agreed price.

Summing up your question..... before I negotiate any car deal I always find out the dest/ charge and all targeted dealerships doc fee charges .

I then add dest/ charge onto the invoice price of said vehicle...... Then I subtract my target price to buy off that number. This makes less confusion when negotiating a price with dealerships. Your both on the same page price wise.

This way dealers know your price includes the dest charge and what number earns your business.

I have been following this thread and I got a quote for 2014EX-L as
23,800 (incl dest charge) + TTL... from one and only one dealer within 100mi radius.
I didnot act swift, and now the color(s) I prefer are gone. I'm contemplating should I take the color thats remaining (basque red) or go for a 2015EX-L color of my choice.... 2015 EX-L i'm get quote at 26,200 + TTL.

dont feel like paying 2400 more just for a model year difference.... esp with no new features....

Base 2014 Gensis prices are 27,237 and $26,494. I called the dealer and learned that the prices is after $500 military cash back. So I need to add $500 to this but includes destination charge.

Do you think there is more room for negotiations for the price?

Comparing Genesis base vs Accord EX-L V6
    1) there is no moon roof, lane watch, lane departure, rear view camera, collision warning in Genesis base
    2) genesis base has stronger engine
    3) Accord V6 is more fuel efficient 21 vs 26 mpg

    Best wishes

As the leasee on a 2012 Hyundai Genesis loaded with both option packages, I will chime in on this. Is the car nicer and have more features? Yes. What I am tired of is the value of Hyundai's car sinking like a 10 ton anchor. You will not see that on a Honda or Toyota for that matter. I go back to 1989 with Hyundai and have had it with them. Their residual value has gotten no better and their customer service for their "prestige" models vary from dealership to dealership when it should not if they want to get into the luxury market. If I stay in that market, my next car will be a Lexus, but it wil probably be a Honda.

Now that the Nov 3rd promotions are over, does anyone know what the new promotions are...
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on 2014 Nissan Altima 2.5SL with tech pkg compared to a 2014 Accord EX-L.
I havenot test driven an Altima yet, but reading edmunds reviews and about the blindspot monitoring on them, seems a solid competition....

Does Altima hold value overtime similar to Accord when it is time for resale...

Long time lurker, first time poster. I got a quote on a 2014 Accord EX-L V6 no Nav in MD, car going to VA:

    Sales price: 24857
Value Package (these things are absurd): 595
    Processing Fee: 300.00
    Sales tax: 1074
    Tag and title 98
    Recycling fee: 4

    OTD: 26928 out the door

It looks like it's a little more than $2K higher than happytiger1 got, but it includes V6 and sales tax. Opinions? It feels good but not great to me.

6 grand off MSRP Seems pretty strong to me. That's only about 2500 more than dealer by me quoting for a 4 cyl EX.

Thanks Brian! The destination was included in that price; the value package was a bunch of things that are mostly worthless to me (nitrogren, 1 year tire warranty, wheel locks). I'm getting a better feel for this; a little less than $4K under invoice seems quite respectable even for a prior-year model.

Update: I took my quote to another two dealerships and offered them the chance to offer something comparable. Both declined, they said the price was just too low and they'd lose money and that this was not possible, so good luck to me. I began to suspect a mistake, and sure enough, they meant to include destination in there too. The numbers just didn't add up. Nonetheless though, they met me about halfway, so in the end it worked out alright. The color was right, the car had 30 miles on it, and I was happy enough. So here we go:

    2014 Honda Accord V6 EX-L w/o Nav
Base Price: 25867 (including destination, wheels locks, some other random stuff)
    Processing fee: 300
    Sales Tax: 1059
Other random title fees and whatnot: 88

Total OTD: 27318 (don't add up perfectly due to rounding)

Was it as good as before? Not quite. But still $2700 under invoice with pretty minimal fees outside of that. I don't think I left too much on the table, judging by other dealers' reactions.

Thanks Brian125, I saw that exact price when they were showing me how much the car cost them. I was like "wow, awesome, I know that number."

So it was Pohanka Honda in MD. I worked with Shavon and Walter. They still have like 11 of the 2014s in stock--no other dealer in the DC area seems to have any as far as I can tell. Some had no miles, some had up to 6000, so if you feel good about my deal and go there, just check milage before you buy. A big thanks to everyone here for making me feel so much more comfortable about the process.

congrats jonboy78.... that is a good deal. and glad to hear you are able to get color of your choice too...

just as a comparison, only one dealer close to me is offering EX-L v4 (no Nav) at base price of 23,800 (dest included)... so a v6 for 2K more sounds a sweet deal.
I just wish the dealer close to me has v4 in color of my choice.

I finally bit the bullet and found a certified used 2013 EX with just 15K miles single owner car in the color combination we were looking for.... it is not leather... but I felt the price was compelling... and its certified too..
    I'm getting it for 18,300 + Tax, title, doc fees ($600) = 19,600.

    is this a good deal?

Price is below NADA retail. The dealership wants to offer "extended vehicle servcie agreement" for 7yrs at 1500.... (originally he quoted 1800).
apparently it covers all non-wear-n-tear parts after the manufacturers bumper to bumper warranty ends.... thinking of passing this... any comments?

Pass on warranty. Try to negotiate a lower doc fee charge if you can. 600 is really high

    Thanks Brian.
i totally agree...doc fees 600 is really high... looks like all dealers in my metro area (Raleigh-Durham) have collectively increased this. It was $400 just 2 months ago. Everyone is asking $598 now :(. (even other manufacturer dealers)

The best I could get was to throw in some all-weather mats. ($150 retail value)
The original asking price quote was $19950...

    My other option would be a new 2014 at 22100 + TTL&doc. == 23300 (roughly).
comparing this to 2013 EX for 18300 == 19600 out the door. (with 15K miles and Certified)

Hi, Folks, this thread is extremely helpful for a car buying newbie like me.
I used the tips here and emailed bunch of local dealers for a 2015 Accord Ex, the lowest I can get is $22991. (the dealer invoice is at $24660, so it is $1668 below the dealer invoice), is this a good price? (in bayarea). The strange thing is none of the dealerships are willing to give me an OTD price, is it because they can play tricks later on when I walk in?

I have also a naive question to ask: is the sales tax rate on a new automobile based on the dealers' address or the buyer's home address?

Dealers invoice price on the 2015 ex model is 23,634. dest charge is 820. ( Nada price )

OTD pricing consists of your states sales tax and rate. Dmv fee's , dealers doc fee charge that is the bulk of OTD pricing. . Some states have a tire disposal fee or internet charge,

Find out if the destination charge of 820 was included in your 22,991 price quote.

the dealer invoice = factory invoice + regional fee $236 + Dest Fee $790

All the dealers are using the "dealer invoice" somehow, and I thought when people on this forum talking about xxx below invoice, it is the dealer invoice.

@Edmunds and @kbb.com have already update there prices for 2015 from $ 790 to $820 for Accords destination charge. This price change may have just occurred this month.

When your calling dealerships for pricing ask what the 2015 dest/ charge is ?

One note: TrueCar should be used as a guide and not a final price. In some states taken with a grain of salt.

My problem with True-car is they are setting the price not you. Most Un-educated buyers will take that price where a buyer like myself or you may be able to negotiate $1500 cheaper than Truecars best price.

Knowing how and when to buy will help make your best deal. Buying at the end of the month.

TrueCar gets a kick back of 300 plus dollars from each dealership if a buyer brings in that certificate and buys from that posted dealership.

True car wants you to believe regional fee's of 236 dollars is part of your deal and buy using them there price is the best deal. Dealers are not adding 236 dollars onto your price deal.

brian is absolutely correct in saying truecar must be used as "guide with a grain of salt".... this has been my personal experience.... but if otherwise its a good service.... edmunds or kbb seem better place to note down invoice/msrp and then use truecar as guide to see what could be an easily achievable price target...
Based on that info, now you see how much more you can negotiate....

A great way to use Truecar is use different state/ zip codes for pricing.

Alot of us boarder different states and can easily go thru 3 or 4 within a couple of hours. Especially here on the East Coast. Better pricing further away should be negotiated with your area's dealerships as a price leverage. Dealerships that are on the fence with meeting a lower price will consider taking your money if they believe you will go to that dealership further away. This is a good negotiating tactic that works with many dealerships especially the last few days of any month.

Having the leverage to tell dealerships.... Why are you going to let Joes Honda steal this sale from you....................... I will buy it from your dealership today is a beautiful thing.
