    Hi All,

Long time member, first time poster..

I am writing to get your opinion on dealerships for purchasing a new 2014 Accord EX CVT Sedan in the SF Bay Area.

If there are folks who bought recently could you guide me to a good honest dealership ? Also please help me with the prices paid and your Accord model.

brian125‌, i see you have very helpful to other members..can I seek your guidance.

    Thanks.

Google Honda dealers in and around your Area. Make a list of dealers you will travel to buy said vehicle. . Check out reviews on your targeted dealerships with the better rated dealers being your priority places to buy. Apply what I talk about in this forum on buying and you will do good.

Your target price and offers to dealers should start at 2k below dealers invoice price. Can you get it .. Only you will know after you have contacted 10 ,12 ,15 dealerships and negotiate with them.

Every area or state will presents a different buying problem.

Examples: higher doc/ admin fee charges, dealers stick together selling at a certain price , or dealers and stock are limited etc.

Regardless whether you get 2000 or more below dealers invoice price on any one of your models. Your guideline in pricing for this time of the year on Accords nationwide is 1500 below to 2k. This is the target price you want to fall into after taking all dealerships doc fee/ admin fee charges into consideration.

Anything lower than 1500 below dealers invoice price is Not a good deal going into end of the year sales.

I dealt with Francesca once with David on the phone. None of the NJ dealers were ready to send me a bill of sale. Hamilton Honda did send but had not signed it which resulted in them losing the sale. They were higher than my final price by $100. Autosport told me they will do $21,000 but changed when I went there. The only reason they budged and did 21,237 was because they thought I was ready to walkout.

In you earlier mails you had mentioned George in Autosport. The finance manger told me he no longer works there. He also asked me how I came to Autosport and I told him about you and this forum.

Hi all, I have been lurking for quite so time. I have seen a post or two about buying in Indiana but no responses on that. I am not sure what the market here is on trying to purchase a 2014 Honda Accord Ex-L - if I can aim for 1000-2000$ below invoice now that the 2015 has come out. If the difference is only a few hundred, I would likely go for the 2015 instead. I tried to email for a price quote on a preferred dealer through my company but they came back pretty high I thought:

    Sale Price 26,350

    • 1,500 dealer cash
    • 400
      +1739.50 tax

    • 1.25 tire tax

    • 50 bmv = otd price is 26,640.75

I have seen other 2015 year Honda Accord EX-L's ADVERTISED online for $26,887 online price so I'm not sure what the disparity is here. Any help on the market in Indiana is greatly appreciated. Willing to travel if needed to save.

If you could buy a 2015 Accord for invoice to 500 below buy the 2015 model . You will then have a new model that will be driven 3 month in the previous year. If you sell this vehicle within the 1st 3 to 4 years is where you recoup this money opposed to buying the 2014 model now for 2k below dealers invoice price.

I would weigh all the price factors between 2014 and 2015. For one thing there are very few upgrades thru each model with all models pretty much remaining the same.

Me personally buying the 2015 is a no brainer. I would travel 1, 2 or 3 hours to pick up this 2015 model for 500 below invoice. That's a great deal for end of Sept. Even invoice price is a good deal on the 2015. .If you start getting pricing of 500 above dealers invoice plus paying dealers high doc fee charge then the 2014 is a better buy next month.

I pickup my pretty, white, Honda Accord with only 10 miles on it tonight! Thank you so much, Brian. You and this forum are amazing. I plan to use your more advanced "competition between dealers" technique when we replace my husband's car. I am actually looking forward to it! This forum has totallly changed my mindset about buying a car. I can't thank you all, especially Brian, enough.

    Mike,

your models invoice on the EXL is 26,650 { dest included]

If dealers sold you the EXL model for 22,250.. That makes your deal at 4400 below invoice price.

what am I missing here ?

@brian125‌ much thanks for the feedback. The internet quote on the 2015 did not include TTL or a doc fee - sorry I didn't Clarify that one.

I'd honestly prefer to get the 2014 at a significant price below invoice if possible. This will be my first serious car purchase and I will likely keep the car 6-8 years. If I do go with the 2014- how far below invoice should I start my target price? If I can't get at least 2000 below invoice I'd likely wait or go with the 2015. I have flexibility to wait until prices drop more but am not sure Webb the ideal time to buy would be. Thanks.

your 2014 accord price depends on your area, dealers stock, how many dealerships are near you etc.

1500 to 2500 are numbers we can get. Most buyers are in the 1500 to 2k area. I cant tell you what price you could get. other than the national selling price range I posted. Your sale will depend on above factors and how good you could negotiate a deal. End of the month buying usually nets you a better price with less dealer BS.

Read thru the prior boards pages for tips and advice on buying.

Has anyone ever received a call from the dealership finance mgr a few days after having taken possession of their new car where they say that they've transposed the numbers when putting credit card info through for your portion of the down payment......and you owe them $500 ? Looking at the receipt that was given and it doesn't look like I owe them anything....if the car was an extra $500 I would've gotten something else. It seems on here others have mentioned to beware the finance mgr.....and this sounded fishy.....any info most appreciated

Have dealership fax over to your office or home the proof where they requested payment and this 500 discrepancy was not paid, denied, or not processed by your credit card. Dealer can not lie about this without proof.

I PRACTICE WHAT I PREACH. On Sat 8-30 all Chevy dealers Int/ Mgrs. will be man handled by me. I have not talked to one dealer yet. Starting Sat cause the 31st, falls on Sunday and several dealerships I want to call are closed . I have 2 sets of emails going out thru 3 states with a ridiculous price to buy on Sat....lol... these emails always breaks the ice with a few dealers looking to take my business away from where I want to buy. In addition I will make my phone calls to the rest of my 20 targeted dealerships for the local sale that day or the next. Within 1 hour time frame on Sat I might be in negotiations with over 15 dealerships in 3 boarding states looking to earn my business. Or a lot of times by the 3rd dealer I call my deal has been made. This is where your buying leverage is... emails and phone calls directly to these guys at months end. Your knowledge of knowing good pricing from bad helps you make the best possible deal. Most forum members do not know this. By you knowing what the national selling price is for Accords, CRV's, and what Your area's pricing is in your state with dealers is more than half the battle of getting that better deal . Now just apply some of these buying tips and advice will help you save 300 to maybe over 1000 dollars.

you will never hear me say to a NJ/ NY buyer go for 2500 below price. I know they will never get it. buying like I preach in NY/NJ will help you get from the dealers low pricing to that 1500 below or higher price goal. Other area's/ States may be selling at a lower price. Just because buyers there get a better price does not mean you will too in your state.

Below is a post I wrote a few back. Gather the info in this email and apply it to your negotiations. It will help you. use this info to your advantage it applies to all car buying. Not just a Honda vehicle.

I'm helping someone buy a Chevy Cruze this month. I have my 20 targeted dealerships ready to go on my spread sheet with each dealers doc fee charge and the name of each dealers internet mgr / his email, and phone number. This is what I call doing your pre homework before you buy any vehicle. On August, 30th / 31st sometime in the afternoon I will go down my list call dealers and buy this vehicle with my target price holding sale with a credit card. It does not get easier than this. Buying the vehicle from the comfort of my house pitting one dealer against the next.... if I have to . A lot of you may not be able to buy a vehicle like I do . I am a expert negotiator doing this many, many years. So if you try to buy like this you may want to start your negotiation on the 2nd, or 3rd day before the end of the month.

Give it a try you wont be disappointed PLUS you will have avoided all that in showroom dealership BS. Dealers that wont negotiate online or by phone just discard there number there not worth your time.. Forum Members take note; where dealerships are limited this hurts your buying leverage price wise. You may have to go into these dealerships to make the deal. Just remember go in there on the last days of the month. apply the same tips and rules we speak about in here. Have a target price to buy, be firm with negotiating price and do your homework prior to buying. here is what else you need to think about.

Get loan pre-approval from another lender 1st.. Pen Fed credit union has great rates.

Contact your INS. company prior to sale . get fax numbers and names for dealers to contact.

Know all incentives and rebates that apply to you.

Have a high and low target price to buy.

Know WHAT THE DEALERS INVOICE PRICE IS FOR YOUR MODEL.

Know every dealers doc fee/ admin fee charge before you make a offer to buy

When your start your negotiation your buying leverage is putting each dealership on the spot .

Meet my price I buy today.

Pit one dealer against the next.

Say no to anything being sold in that back office. NO- NO- NO

Never buy any extended warranty if you have no clue what a fair price may be.

If there is something in the bill of sale that looks fishy Stop and question the dealer. Call him out. make them explain. Do not rush to sign paperwork or be rushed when closing your deal. That's when you are most vulnerable and will overlook something dealer added into your deal costing you $$$$$

Bring a calculator and big note pad into the dealership when your closing the

Folks, Happy to report that Mrs. RDX08 is a Happy New Black on Black Accord LX CVT owner.

    Sale Price: $18750
    Doc Fee: $250
    Title Tags:$1316
    OTD: $20316

I took Brian125's game plan. Started sending emails 3-4 days before months end. Used dealerrater site to find dealerships within 150 mile radius. Send them email (sample on Page 34 in this thread) and had them compete for my business. Winning Dealership was Apostolakis Honda in Cortland Ohio. Salesman Cory H. They offered me lowest deal. All other area dealerships bowed out and said we can't match it. $19000 plus $250 was my second best offer from motorcars. $19800 plus fees was the third best from Jay, Park and Mentor Honda. Others were invoice price and refused to come further down.

Jay Honda said we have met our target for the month. Be leery of dealerships offering you less price. We have fresh cars in every color and you should pay our price if you care about someone making a honest living. Hilariously Cheesy!

I tried to negotiate the price further down after one of wife co-workers wanted the deal I had but the dealership flipped and seemed pretty mad at having to sell two cars at low price. I offered other dealers sale of 2 cars but none would touch it. I learnt that more numbers always aren't a good thing.

There was some concerns with HFS taking longer but were hashed out. I was able to get the 0.9% financing. The dealership customer service was good didn't try to sell anything extra.

@Brian125 Big Thank You ! I used to dread negotiating for a new car but your lessons turned it into fun. Now I want to negotiate for everyone else. Your coaching on how to buy a new car has been very valuable. Appreciate all your time replying to my posts.

going to assume your numbers are correct. I'm not by my calculator.

2370 minus the doc of 250. You are working on over 2k below invoice.

This is where the fun starts for you. . Round up the 3 or 4 closest dealers . Call directly to each internet manager let each one know you are giving them one last crack at earning your business. add 100 onto your best deal and tell all contacted dealerships beat my price or I'm buying at x Honda as soon as I hang up with you.. I will buy from you today if you agree ..Put dealers on the spot . You have the buying leverage right know. If no dealer will make deal with the 2370 below invoice dealer. Give them your business they earned it..

By waiting closer to the 30th or last day is when you will see how differently you will be treated towards your deal. Find that dealer that's hungry to make his quota / incentives and your deal could go from 2300 to 2700 or higher. This is what I talk about pitting one dealer against the next............. This is how you beat them at there own game. The hungriest dealer will deal with you and take your money.

Be a CLOSER you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

I wish I was in your shoes right now. Your in Brian 125's world of buying..... Loving it.

Post name of dealer and details so other member could try for a similar deal.

Good luck and have fun... most buyers never experience this kind of leverage. .

Hello. I got advice about 3 weeks ago after a using Consumer Reports Car buying guides ($48 waste of money, all info was available for free on internet). Found this forum and read all 47 pages of advice and data points.

Spent maybe 10 hours, 30 - 40 emails, and a dozen or so phone calls. END of the month deals today made it happen.

    2014 Accord Sedan EX CVT 21,956 (including dest) + 80 doc + 1983 tax +252 fees OTD for 24,300.

Thats about $2100 or so under invoice. Funny thing, the dealer I purchased from (Keyes Honda Woodlan Hills) was the one I had the least contact with over the 3 week period. They guys were really, really good. Quote in 5 minutes beating Galpin and Norm Reeves pricing! The Internet Sales Manager was great (Alex B) and there were no games, no attempts to change price or upsell. Easiest car purchase in my life! In and out the door in less than 1.5 hours (even with the car stored off the lot).

Brian125 has great advise and is a giant in the consumer advocate area! Consumer reports advice was to close near $23,000 and Brian saved me $1000.
Car in driveway now and I couldn't be more satisfied. The dealerships will be crazy busy this weekend but now is definitely the time to strike. All my prior 3 weeks of offers got very little attention (especially at the 2,000+ under invoice price) until TODAY.

    Happy Honda Hunting fellow bloggers!!!!

Something of note, here. For those that think getting together to buy more than one car is a good negotiating tactic. Go it alone, if you want the lowest price.

Has anyone figured out a good radio setting tweak on a exl or better? Mine sounds off. The power levels/volume are much weaker than my older accord and the sound isn't as full. I know there is the developer adjustment to change to flat, as well as the normal bass/tuner/subwoofer adjustments. I still am not a big fan. Any ideas?

1st off the Honda radio sucks. music sounds like its playing out of tin cans. your model has Foster speakers. If you replace speakers you will have a better sound . Honda did a bad job on the radio. Upgrading the back amp will help give you a better sound.

It's kind of sad that the Accord thread has 50 more pages than the Mazda 6 thread. Did anyone here cross shop a Mazda 6 by any chance? I know it's kind of hard to 'go wrong' with an accord or camry, but literally every automotive magazine ranks it higher in comparison tests. I'd encourage anyone reading this to give that car a chance!

I followed the email only method. some dealers sent the quote, some wanted me to walk in and find out, I was clear that I would not step into their dealership unless I got a detailed quote from them. Let me know how I did.

    Hi Brian,
I am from Philadelphia, am planning to buy Honda Accord EX-L w/o Navi. Could you give me some comments regarding the following quote:
$26,696 OTD price=$24,550 (car price)+$1964(Tax, 8% in PA)+$184(TTC) Its higher than what people paid from other areas, but this is the lowest quota among 10 local dealers.
Do you think this the right price to target ? Would the price be lower on Monday, which is the last day of Labor day sale promotion? Thanks in advance.

I liked the JBL GTO, 929 series speaker 6x9 they sounded really good for the money. The problem is I think Accords door speakers are 6x7 or 5. I gave my daughter the car back in Jan after she received her masters in college so I never followed thru with it. The Polk db 6501 or there top of the line speaker sounded good but not as good as the JBL. JBL has a 6t6 series speaker. check out reviews.

Any reputed- able stereo shop will help you decide on a good speaker and amp match. The upper models have the 360 watt system in them. Personally I think finding any upgraded speakers opposed to the factory installed Foster speakers will be a big improvement ..

To answer your question on the philadelphia area, you can see my deal in my post a few pages ago. I purchased at conicelli honda and they were the lowest price and very straight forward to work with.

Just leased a 2014 Accord EX-L V6 coupe with Navi manual transmission. I have purchased my last few cars through emails, and the advice given in this thread is very helpful for those who have not done this.

I used sites such as cargurus.com and newcars.com/dealer-inventory to help find this car, since manual transmission V6 coupes are hard to find. I also didn't mind traveling, since I live in the metro NYC area where it can be harder to make a good deal.

I started my initial emails in the middle of August with dealers who had the car I wanted in stock. I ask for their best price including destination, doc fees, and other fees. I let them know I am sending this email to numerous dealers, and the best price gets my business. I then use the lowest bid as a counter offer to dealers with higher price quotes.

I had three dealers lined up with cars I was interested in, and was able to get two of them to offer me the car at the same price. I still wanted a better deal, so I waited until the last week in August to contact them again with my new offer. During this time, Honda increased dealer cash to $1,500

I ended up going with Garber Honda in Rochester, NY. I dealt with Elizabeth, their Internet salesperson. They accepted my offer of $28,000 with destination included as the agreed upon price of the car. The invoice on this car is $30,417 and MSRP is $33,190

Being that this is a very hard car to find, I was happy with saving almost $2,500 below invoice. An advantage to buying in NY is that the DOC fee is limited by law to $75. Garber wanted to charge me an additional $120 prep fee to clean the car, but I told them I didn't want to be charged this fee since I don't mind a dirty car. They then dropped the $120 prep fee for me.

I had a great experience with Garber Honda. I traveled there to get the car, spent about 15 minutes signing paperwork and was out the door. There was no pressure to buy any additional items, and all the numbers were spot on with what we agreed to. A very easy process, and I had a nice long drive home to get familiar with the car.

If you do your due diligence with research and emails, you can get good deals without ever having to set foot inside the dealership to negotiate. If you don't mind traveling, you can also find even better deals depending on where you live.

Good luck to everyone in their car buying/leasing search!

I did cross shop. The mazda6 is better in many ways off the lot but I don't trust it log term. The accord v6 is priced similarly new to a mid loaded mazda and the accord just feels like a better car with a lot more power. The mazda came in a few thousand dollars over where the accord is at. During my two mazda6 test drives, the new plastic was burning and the dealer told me they all smell like that..lol

    Does this include destination fee?

Take car price + destination+doc fee and subtract from dealer invoice. You should be at least 2k-2500 below invoice this time of year. Also 1500 dealer cash that can go against this.

Invoice is 21800 based off true car and 21,600 based off edmunds for an auto cvt. . I believe that includes 790 destination fee. Assuming this is an auto cvt, you are at 19+doc fee (guessing 200) so 19,200. -21600=2400 under invoice. Not the best deal on here but quite good. Double check what's included. Hope that helps. 2015s are rolling out so do a price comparison. Might be worth 1500 more for a new version.

If it was me, I'd draw a line through those add ons and say take them off the car. At that point, they'll negotiate to at least dealer cost if not free. I don't know what a VIT fee is? Ask on that. DOC fee is ok. Vehicle inspection fee? Might be a state thing but never heard of that either. I';d aim for an 18,200 sales price and not pay for the accessories. 2500 under invoice, should be obtainable if not beatable. Anyone else thoughts?

See Iss3 post on page 54. Bought an lx cvt a few days ago in nj for 19,200 at 2000 under invoice. NJ is a much tougher state then Texas so you should definately beat that pricing. 2015 are already showing up.

Just bought an Accord sedan EXL-V6 no nav last weekend from Honda Chantilly VA. Invoice of this trim is $28,542 including destination.
Price paid $25,200 + $499 Doc fee + Tax, tags with 0.9% 60 months. Price includes $500 college grad. So the deal is $2843 under invoice.
Many thanks to Brian and all.

Walk away from that LX model in Texas. Dealer is gouging you for Accessory $$$ that you probably don't want.

LX models are the easiest to find on dealers lots. Either find one without accessories or negotiate down.
