Just wanted to let folks know the deal I got on my X3. This forum has been so helpful. I initiated a query through TrueCars and right away I was emailed by South Bay BMW (Redondo Beach, CA) and was guaranteed $6,615 savings from MSRP on the car I wanted. After some additional haggling and contacting other dealers to see if they could beat their price (which none could) I saved $7,600 (including the $2000 rebate) of MSRP ($46,125) for a capitalized cost of $38,525. I paid a $925 bank fee although I know I could have asked for $725, but I was getting a good enough deals that I didnt want to bother. I wanted the salesman to make something after spending all that time with me. The money factor was .0012 which was reduced by .00049 for a new money factor of .00071 because I put down 7 multiple security deposits. My monthly payment with tax is $466 for 36 months and 12,000 miles. The residual was 56%. I had a great experience with this dealership.

What trim and options did you get?how much down did you put excluding the security deposits?
    Thanks

Thanks to everyone who posts here. Picked up 2014 X3 Xdrive3.5 from BMW of Bayside. MSRP is $53075. Total out of pocket $2401-includes bank fee, first month, $500 cap cost reduction, new plates $287, fuel, $75 dealer fee, $10 tire fee, and taxes on cap cost reduction and bank fee. Monthly payment of $625 36months/15k per year. 2014s are disappearing quickly.

I would like to understand the following three questions:

    1. What is money factor and how it relates to interest rate?
    2. How can I find out the residual value for 2014 BMW X3 28i xDrive for 36 months and 48 months for 15,000 miles. Is there a site to input these parameters and find out the values.
    3. What are options credits?

money factor is the same as an interest rate, except it's used for leases. MF is usually expressed as a decimal value and is used to calculate the 'rent charge'.

    1. How can I find out the residual value for 2014 BMW X3 28i xDrive for 36 months and 48 months for 15,000 miles. Is there a site to input these parameters and find out the values.

You ask us - .00120 is the MF and the residual is 54% for 36 months and 36% for 48 months

    1. What are options credits?

They are similar to rebates in that you can subtract the amount of the option credit from the selling price.

Hello. I am shopping for a 2014 X3 xDrive 2.8 lease and have received slightly different residual percentages and money factors from 3 different dealers. I'm looking at 36 months, 10k miles per year. Can someone please confirm the correct residual and MF numbers for May? Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi guys,

I have been following your site for quite some time now - Thank you for your helpful comments!

I'm looking for a lease of a 2015 BMW X3 x28i with an MSRP of $53,175 for 36 month / 10K miles. Could you confirm the following:

    RV: 57% / MF: .00125 / Average discount on MSRP: 5.4% (from TrueCar.com)

If you don't believe the 5.4% discount, what discount should I try to negotiate? With the numbers above and a down payment of $2,500 I should pay about $620 a month (incl. 6% tax)

Thanks in advance for your input on this!

Is there currently $2000 build out cash for a 2015 X3? Besides that, do you think 5.4% really is avg. discount?

The base MF is .00120, so that is being marked up a little bit by the dealer.

What is the breakdown of the $2500? The acquisition fee should be $725 - this is another area where the dealer can mark it up (to $925). RV of 57% is correct, however.

Don't know how much off MSRP you can negotiate, so cannot comment.

Using your numbers ($53,175 MSRP and $50,303.55 selling price) with your MF and residual, I get a pre-tax payment of $656.15 - 6% tax takes that to $695.52.

    I'm sorry.. I missed the 2015 part.. :(

.00133 MF and 56% residual. No build-out cash.

I don't know how or where TrueCar gets their numbers. But, 5%-8% discount on a new model that doesn't have other incentives seems about right for BMW.

The dealer definitely gave me a 57% RV on the 2015 X3 36mo/10K. The MF seems to be somewhere between 0.0012 and 0.00133 based on your guys comments, so 0.00125 sounds like a good deal.

Thanks for letting me know a 5%-8% discount on MSRP. Super helpful, I will go in higher than 6% then. Acquisition fee was $825, so apparently $100 too high.

My original calculations were $2,500 down excl. Acq. Fee, title etc. so my upfront payments would total more than $4,000 incl. first month payment.

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,873

How long ago did the dealer give you those numbers... The base money factor is .00133, and he can't go below that... The residual is 56% for 36mo/10K, and he can't change that, either...

I'm just wondering if they quoted numbers from the 2014... not knowing for sure what the new numbers are?

It was last Saturday. You might be right about MF, he had a way higher MF in there to make money. RV was definitely 57%, I saw it myself on the computer screen for 2015 X3.

    Hi,

I'm looking into possibly my first lease, and have been reading this forum like crazy. It's been incredibly helpful already, so thanks!

I'm considering getting a 2014 x3 x28i. Could you let me know the current MF, as well as the residual for 24/30/36 months? Assume 12k miles per year. Also, just a more general lease question, is the tax rate paid based on the state the dealer is in, or the state where the car will be registered?

    .00120 MF and 56% residual for 36mo, 12K/yr. $2000 build out cash.

The shorter terms really aren't competitive.

Generally, taxes are paid where the car is registered.

Hi folks, been utilizing the various forum for years, an excellent source of information. Thank you.

Signed a deal last night for a 2014 X3 28xdrive Space Gray metallic, Premium, Cold weather, driver assist, technology pkg, roof rails, finline wood trim,
    MSRP $50,275
    Negotiated $43,600 (apprx)
    Money Fctr: .0014
    Sales Tax 6.25%
    Lease incl tax: $550/month

    Acquisition fee $725
Fee total, incl first month: $1795

We 7 MSD'd the deal, so our payments are $513/month, including tax.

Our target was $499/month with the 7 MSD's. This was pretty painless process for us, just a few emails after test driving the X3 and the Ford Edge. It was a big win for our car budget. Our trade in was an '12 X5 on the BMW lease-pull ahead program, with 5 months left on the lease.

My question is, how much "damage" in $$$ terms does BMW allow for a lease turn in?

We still owed over $3k on the lease payments, plus the dealer said it had "$2,900 in 'damage'" that they "absorbed". I didn't argue, but in my last 5+ leases, i never paid anything to turn in a car, in fact, some leases i trade in to other brands because the value of the car is way higher than the residual.

Thx for the years of valuable information

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,873

"the dealer said it had "$2,900 in 'damage'" that they "absorbed"."

That's just the dealer blowing smoke, to convince you how great a deal it was... and that they aren't making any money on it, yada, yada, yada...

I've turned in 2 BMW leases, including an '08 X3 that had the original 54K mile tires on it... I've never paid a dime, either...

    Hi all,

Like many I have visited the site many times and learned alot. Thanks very much! How does this lease deal look? The car is a 2014 X3 w/ Premium, Tech and Cold Weather packages.

    36 MONTHS
    12K/YEAR
    MSRP $49,075
    SELLING PRICE: $ 43,676
    MONEY FACTOR:.00120
    RESIDUAL: 56%
    AFTER LEASE BUY FOR $27,482

TOTAL OUT OF POCKET = $3519.72 (FEES)

    FEES BREAKDOWN
    - $326 = DMV

    • $1434.48 = STATE TAX
    • $875 = BANK AQUISTION FEE
    • $349 = DOC FEE
    • $535.24 = 1ST MONTHS PAYMENT

If I go the 7 MSD route, would have to leave a total security deposit of $3850.00, this would lower the payment from 535.24 to 500.37

Some room in the selling price maybe?

    Thanks to all!

Thanks for this. Would you still be able to give me an idea on the shorter term though? I ask only because in 2 years I'll be back in Manhattan, and parking a car costs ~$600/mo, so that will impact the 3rd year cost quite a bit.

Although, it sounds like it may be easier to go for the 36 month and possibly try to get someone to take over the last year if need be. If there's a possibility for trying to trade the lease before completion, is it correct that I should then not put down MSD's as those would be returned to the 'new owner'?

Base acq.fee is $725.. Other than that and a $350 doc fee, don't see a lot of room. The MSD thing is a good deal. Almost a 12% after-tax return for loaning them the $3850.

The base MF for the X3 is .00120 this month, so that is being marked up a little bit by the dealer.

I can't comment on whether there is room to negotiate, but be aware there is $2000 of build out cash available. Check with your dealer to see if the $40,300 includes or excludes that money.

    Thanks,

Are you leasing a 3-series or an X3? This is the X3 lease questions discussion.

However, let's review your deal. Using MSD's you are reducing the MF to .00081 - that tracks with the base MF in my documents, so that's good. Bank fee is not marked up either.

Running your numbers through my calculator I get the exact same payment you do. I can't comment on whether the selling price is good or not - I'm not in the market for a BMW.

The dealer isn't making any 'extra' money off of you, so the deal seems fair. Only way to reduce the payment now is to get a better selling price.

hi - this is a great forum. here is the deal i have got X3 28i in IL for 10K - 3 yr lease...here are the

: can someone tell me is this a good deal???

    • MSRP: 46175. Sales price 41325. Residual: 26319 MF 0.0012: monthly payment 525 + 3922 at signup. i did some calculations and i am unable to determine how 525 is arrived.
    • taxes are 7.25%
    • how can i negotiate further?

The base MF for the X3 is .00120, so that is not being marked up on you.

Using your numbers with the base MF and residual of 57%, I get a pre-tax payment of $497.99; add 7.25% tax and the payment is $534.09.

I suspect that some of the $3922 is being used to reduce the cap cost enough to lower the payment to $525.

The only way to reduce your payment is to negotiate a lower selling price, or use MSDs to lower the MF. Max 7 MSDs would lower the MF to .00071, which would shave off about $30-40/mo off the payment.

and a quick question - is sales tax applicable on MSRP or sales price...dealer mentioned that the first payment i make includes all TTL + first payment. he added acquisition fee into the lease payment

Multiple Security Deposits are up front money to lower the money factor. The amount of a single deposit is the monthly payment rounded up to the next $50 increment, in your case $550. Each security deposit lowers the MF by .00007, and a maximum of 7 MSDs can be applied to your BMW lease.

The best part is that the money you used for the MSD is returned to you at lease end.

It depends on what state you live in. Illinois (for now) and Texas apply sales tax to the entire purchase price of a car on a lease. New Jersey calculates the sales tax for the depreciation and the dealer is required to collect it up front. Other states simply apply sales tax to the monthly payment.

One thing - check the amount of the acquisition fee. The base fee is $725 for BMW, but the dealer is allowed to mark that up to a maximum of $925.

    michaell,

thanks for the explanation. this will help.. let me see what i get back from the dealer. Just 1 concern - i always thought that if you keep a security deposit with a dealer he would give 10 different reasons why not to return it citing issues with the car at end of lease and suggesting that he will deduct that from SD. hence it is advisable to keep SD as low as possible. with MSD - would that give him more freedom to charge for addtl things?

I've not used MSD in any of the leases I've done, so I can't comment on that.

Using the base MF is always a good idea. How does your selling price compare to invoice and does it include any available incentives?

Thank you for informative and practical information. May I ask you what residual value and money factor in May 2014 for BMW X3 drive 28i? I am looking at either 10K or 12K miles per year for 36 month lease. Do you also know the base bank fee and what dealers charge for advertisement and/or training fee?

    Thank you.

Here is my currant offer to the dealer. They sent me back a ridiculous offer yesterday so I lowered my offer price. He says the residual on 15K is 54% with a MF of .0012. Does this sound correct? Acquisition fee 725 and I am not sure of what the dealers charge for advertizement is.

    36 month 15K/yr
    MSRP $50025
    Sale price $43524
    Cash down payment $2000
    Cap Cost $41524
    Residual $27014
    Depreciation $14,510
    $403.06/mo before MF
    MF .0012 $82.25
    $485.31/mo before tax
    $485.31 X .0325= $15.77
    $501.08/mo

.00120 MF and 57%/56% residual. $2000 build out cash.

Base acquisition fee is $725, which can be marked up to $925.

Advertising and training fee is on the dealer's invoice. This isn't a charge for the consumer, unless you ask for an "invoice + $XXX deal".

Those calculations are exact, and the base rates. 3.25% sales tax? Virginia?

What is the amount due at signing? Should be 1st payment, acq.fee and title/license/doc fees (plus the $2000 downpayment). Don't let them hide anything in that amount.
