Saw a very rare sighting in CA today! A Buick Lacrosse was parked at the Kaiser facility in the ADA handicap spot with ADA placards on the mirror to match. Inside, an old man with all white hair.

Maybe lawyer up and make them pay your legal fees. Do you feel served and protected yet? It really is a make-work project, endless layers of red tape managed by people with zero accountability. I hope you don't have a special note at the bottom of your ticket. Of course, those in on the scam will just say that "life isn't fair" or a similar dodge.

I will write the check specifically with case and citation reference numbers on it, but we all see how much attention to details the Courts give.

You know, I think a high percentage of them don't realize just how difficult it is to work with their kind and ilk on these cases.

A lot of them have the "blue shield" of ticket immunity after all. They don't have to deal with the layers of incompetence.

For instance, I was talking to an Officer a few years ago who contacted the court on my behalf to I think dismiss his "fix-it ticket." He mentioned how difficult it was to get a hold of someone at the Court. I told him "welcome to my world, it's always like that." I asked if he didn't have a "special" number that got picked up quicker for law enforcement. Don't recall an answer to that, but I'm guessing there is a number "insiders" can call. Apparently this Sheriff wasn't in on the 411.

If people that work there only knew how difficult it is to work with them!! Perhaps they don't care. Perhaps a large percentage of the public is nasty with them (wouldn't you be a bit frustrated waiting in line for hours to be "served and protected?")

I had been sitting watching a lady with a Sonata or Optima (with a highly sloped rear window) trying to put a 4 x 8 piece of plywood into her car. I watched as she wheeled it to her car. At first she opened the rear doors and tried to put it in sideways. LOL The width of the car is NOT 8 feet, now matter what they say about the rear legroom!!!

Then she opened the trunk and moved some things, then went to the rear doors and put the seats down. I can't believe the rear trunk opening is 48" across and is going to let her slide 8 feet of plywood into the maw of the trunk and rear seat space. Just sayin'. I had to leave because my wife came out of the Lowes with more pansies. I really wanted to see how much more she tried to make the geometry work...

Maybe tie it on the roof?

This was down in GG country (Mason-Montgomery Rd). Fairly close to one of the Mercedes stores.

I am cautious too....no diesel or e-cars until it has proven to be better than good old gasoline. But, I can see the day when self driving cars will be safer. Two biggest causes of accidents will be eliminated.....self drivers don't get distracted (by cell phones, texting or eating pizza), and they don't DUI.

If they can refine them a little more...they will be safer. Safer than the young lady behind me the other day yacking on her cell phone (heavy slow moving traffic) and talking to her passengers...and not watching what was happening in front of her.

Maybe they can sentence people like that to self drivers like they require interlock devices on drinking drivers.

Not a bad idea! The programming and sensors already appear to be superior to the lowest common denominator drivers out there.

the sweet spot seems to me to be driver required cars, with the in case of emergency nanny overrides. For the lowest common denominator types. Yeah, the person behind me should be paying attention and not texting, but if they are distracted, I would prefer that their car would slam on the brakes as opposed to having the car end up in my trunk.

and Mike is right. Cars now have such terrible rear visibility now, that BU cams and cross path detection is a major help in parking lots. Sure, you can adjust side mirrors to cover on the road, but that doesn't help with pedestrians going behind you much.

The painters just left.  They did a superb job - looks great.  The caulking really made the bathrooms and the kitchen look great.  Worth every penny of the $400 I paid them.  They had 3 guys here - one did the painting, one did the guest bathroom and caulked the bathtub, and one did the caulking in the master bath and shower.  They cleaned up and the apartment looks great.

A good friend has been working at a BMW dealership here in Louisville. Told him the type of car and price range we are looking at. Says he'll try to find a car for us. I'll try to hit him up for some sales stories. But I suspect not many at a Beamer dealership.

I think "don't care" is a big part of it on the administrative side. I think most cops do care, but those in the "justice system", well, maybe not so much. Remember the Lily Tomlin phone company commercial parody? That's probably a good representation.

No doubt dealing with nasty people can make one jaded, but I see that as an occupational hazard, one compensated for by bennies and pensions few in the private sector can ever dream of.

Our current one is just over 2 years old and only has 24k on it.

The legislature in their infinite wisdom put the word "UPON DEMAND" into that law, not "UPON REQUEST" and I believe for good reason, as the Courts seem to ignore and disregard some laws, while trying to enforce arbitrarily the laws they wish to enforce for revenue generation.

The Officer granted my request, if you recall the story. However, on the ticket, he clearly squiggled out the East County, and put the County Seat as the court venue I was to appear at. I signed to appear at the County Seat by 2/20/18.

I received a Courtesy Notice to incorrectly appear at East County (they ignored the citation, the squiggly marks clearly crossing-out that as a selection). It wasn't either or, it was only to be at the County Seat.

So now I have a Failure to Appear charge, which is laughable, since I never signed nor agreed to appear at the East County Court. How could I be charged with such a frivolous thing when if they bothered to look at a copy of the citation they'd see they don't have the evidence to convict!!!!!

They have a harrassing rude collection agency calling me two days in a row Thurs/Friday last week, but they've left me alone since then. Just received the first letter from them yesterday (other than the collections calls where they were argumentative, I hadn't received a single word about this).

The reason I don't appear at the County Seat is because if I did so I believe I'd have my time wasted, and be direct to go to the East County Court. They might not even have me on their books or share their files.

I need the East County court to correct this situation. I sent them a letter about all this on 2/6 or 2/7, and they ignored it.

Did the USPS magically lose this letter? If so, they are government incompetents too. If not, then the court misplaced my letter, and/or failed to respond.

This isn't my first rodeo. I know how this works. However, in my stubbornness, I don't feel I should have to pay extra for Certified Registered Return Receipt Mail (payments to the Government) when I am innocent of the charges, and intend to plead not guilty and get the charges dismissed. I also don't want to have to appear in person at the East County court, as it is a great inconvenience, a significantly longer drive, and from prior experiences, a significantly slower processing line (longer lines too).

In fact, when you call the East County Court, they only have phone hours for a few hours in the morning each day. Even when you call within those time frames, I was held on-hold for almost a full hour!

They don't answer the phone, they don't answer written correspondence, they have excessive lines, they are far away, and most importantly, I do not wish VC 40502(b) to be trampled upon, broken, and disrespected. I should never have to appear at the East County Court. They should just fix their mistakes (yes, plural mistakes now).

When the government or courts or anything is involved, pay the $4 for mail that requires a signature. Hard to prove you mailed it when it could have ended up on anyone's desk....and then trash can.

I like that idea....3 accidents and you have to have a self driving car. That should make people more careful, and make the roads safer.

You need X-Ray cameras to see through vans and trucks parked beside you.

@Michaell- I have to make an unexpected trip to LA this week. Arriving late Thursday (like 10:30) and flying home Friday. You were pretty happy with Silvercar right?

Most of the professional golfers have homes in (on) Jupiter! 

Jupiter is about 25 miles north of West West Palm Beach.  That’s where I would love to live if I had a few million available for s down payment on s house.  Area is just exquisite!

I've used them twice. Happy both times. Check hours of operation - they may close at 11

Pass the Silvercar location at MIA all the time and saw a silver Q5 there on Monday. It's right outside the rental garage, a very short walk. They keep a lot of their vehicles parked outside but sometimes it's quite empty. Like the way SIXT does their rentals, they have an interesting mix of regular and nicer vehicles to choose from. Used to do a lot of work for them when I was an independent contractor and running around the state. Miss those days and not going to pursue the Enterprise gig as I don't want to give up Hertz and doing both will mean working over 50 hours/week, something my body just won't tolerate anymore. Been four years end of this month that I gave up that West Palm driving gig and it was the right thing to do then, as well as now. My working every other day schedule is perfect for my bad spine and refuse to push it anymore. If I decide the extra income is needed, will re-evaluate and go from there but right now, all is good.

I really enjoyed it; everyone I worked with was great. The downside was working weekends and holidays- and until 6 or later Fridays and Saturdays. The only reason I left was because I was offered a part time city attorney gig that dovetailed perfectly into my campaign for Commonwealth's Attorney.

Thanks @Michaell - that may be cutting it a bit close. Right now I have a room booked at the Hilton Universal because its close to where I need to be, but I'm wondering if it makes more sense to stay at an airport hotel, get a rental car in the morning, and then go out that direction....

My flight in December was delayed, and I didn't make it to the Silvercar lot until almost 11.There was a "concierge" there, waiting for me.

I would not - under any circumstances - want to make the drive from LAX to Universal Studios (or general area) in the morning. Every possible route will be a nightmare. My .02

Seems to be the consensus. Only a half hour from the airport that time of night and from there it’s a few miles to the funeral location, which isn’t bad. 

I booked a car with Hertz to be safe.
