Is it possible they’re asking these questions for identification purposes, as when security questions are established to verify a caller’s identity?

I had one glitch in an otherwise good day. When I was at the bank this am waiting with all the other old fossils for my money they were asking everyone to "update their profile". They wanted to know my occupation. I refused to answer of course. The other old folks were answering and if they pressed them they would tell what they did before retirement. I just thought that was awful intrusive especially since other people in line could hear the conversation. What's the deal with that?
I get your frustration. My bank, my AMEX, my gas and electric provider, etc....all of them want information from me. Even when I buy something on line, the e-store wants personal info. It’s all marketing data they want. And, they want me (and you) to provide it to them instead of them paying for their own research. Ain’t happening. If I want to provide it, throw me a bone to do so (and not some made up type of “chance to win” garbage). Otherwise, my personal information is just that....PERSONAL!
After I ranted here I was still miffed so I shot an email off to the corporate HQs. They responded that it was required by government regulations and then said it was for bank security. Not very convincing. Next time they ask my occupation I'll say gigelo or drug dealer.
That's what I was thinking. Just say something that will make them want to get away from you.

Some poor old woman tried that at the drivethru and they kept badgering her for what she did "before". Felt bad for her since the interior speaker in the bank broadcast her responses to everyone in line.

Possible, although they've required photo ID on cash withdrawals for some time. Amazing what I do for 400 bucks. :@

If they just want a standard response then gigelo should work just fine.

Many banks do require a periodic refresh of KYC (Know Your Customer) information. If you are taking out money for example and the teller sees your ID on file is expired they should be asking for updated information. It really is collected for satisfaction of regulators though I do agree conversations involving any personal information should be done away from the general public in a secluded office or cubicle. Next time I would just politely tell them you aren't comfortable giving that information out front of strangers, most bank branch offices should be happy to accommodate you.

Oh and if you think what consumers deal with is bad, I could really make you shake your head by telling you all about new Federal bank regulations that went into effect last month for business owners.

Hello: Day one of the Greenwich Concourse d'Elegance. Domestics day, but a bit more. From what I understand, 24 of the 25 Brigg's Cunningham cars ever produced were there. The Bonhams auction had all kinds of temptations. Including a '74 ALFA GTV that was really well restored and presented. And affordable.... Lead me not into temptation. Several lovely Series 1 & 1.5 E-Types, Panteras, Lotus Esprit, MB 280sls, flotsam & jetsam.

Day 2 will be the imports. The wealth is palpable, a Guggenheim was discussing how small the back seat is in his Aston Martin and was viewing/considering the new Ferrari Portofino. Of course, Wayne Carini was there as well as several auto journalists we've all read. I think Pamela Yates was there, too. Time flew, amazing.

I wonder if you said you were a professional computer hacker?

My brother sent me a site that shows the new RDX. It looks pretty good on the outside, but I came across this picture and felt nauseous.....blue exterior with red and black seats.

The exterior looks pretty good. I would like it better if they just left the blue paint near the back roofline....and not made a floating roof with the black gloss piece added.

I didn’t know you were going to be in town.  I would have made plans to meet up for coffee.  That would have proved difficult today since I didn’t get home from work until 4:00 pm.

The RDX is nice looking in profile but in my opinion it would look even more attractive if the overall was shortened by 8 inches.

From where would you take those 8 inches? It's not like it has long overhangs at either end.

Just got home from the hospital.  They found scar tissue blockage in my upper intestine due to the surgery I had 1-1/2 years ago to resect my liver.  They did an endoscopy which was not very comfortable.  They had to put in a foly catheter into my bladder to get me to empty my bladder - that too was not very comfortable.

They put me on some new pills because my kidneys were not functioning properly - but on discharge, the kidney functions were good.  It took them 2 hours to find an IV line in my arm which delayed procedures.

At least I am home and no longer in pain.  Thanks to those of you who prayed for me and/or wished me the best.  Much appreciated.  Hopefully I will heal up well and not have any recurrences.  ;)
Welcome home Mike and hope you continue to be pain free. Get well soon and Be Blessed.

OF...it wasn’t my bank, but I think it was an AMEX “courtesy call” (presumably to gauge my satisfaction with their card). I told them I had been a customer for 25 years, and if I wasn’t happy, I wouldn’t be a customer for that period of time.

Anyway, the person on the othe end of the phone kept pushing me for info, little of it related to my personal financials. Finally she told me they were required by law “to update individual files”.

I asked her politely to point me to the law that requires sharing that information. She said they’d get back to me. That was 2 months ago and I haven’t heard a peep from them since then.

    I’m with you....those requests are dubious.....at best!

It’s a cheap and easy way for them to tailor ads and services to each person based on the data they collect from you.

The Starion was a nice car. Chrysler also sold a version known as the Conquest. When the car was new I recall arguing with two idiots at a Chrysler dealer who insisted that the Laser was a better sports coupe because it was FWD.

man, the roads around here are in terrible shape. Just the potholes and normal wear is bad enough, they have a few major local routes that have been getting rebuilt (replacing pipes or sewers below, and redoing sidewalks, etc. at the same time). Problem is, the work has been going on forever, and the roads are a series of patches and plates (and holes) most of the time. There are a few areas I just refuse to take my car into because I don't think the wheels/tires would survive.

at this point I am getting more used to driving the RDX with big meaty sidewall tires. Much safer!

You live in suburban Seattle? Sounds like here. I've changed my commute route for the past couple weeks, as a repaving project (which needed to be done, the prior road surface was embarrassing) is taking forever, and the work is being done with no hurry. Foreign visitors here remark that such projects would be done much faster at home.

Maybe the CUV/SUV makers have lobbied our oh-so-skilled and accountable local "authorities" into taking their time and creating rough construction zones B)

I flirted with one of these when I was going through my Cadillac buy back fiasco. That was a ‘17.

I thought the Avalon could give the E Class/5 series a run for the money. Plus, it cost a lot less even all loaded up.

I still see the Avalon as a 21st century traditional Buick (in a good way) than a real premium brand lux competitor. It is comfortable and reliable, and it is still quite homely. I don't think the current pretend-aggressive Toyota styling ethos will be considered a classic in the future.

Some roads around here probably have those behind me thinking I am drunk - I weave all over the place dodging ruts, holes, and negligently designed manholes/service covers.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,467
that is a particularly bad application of the corporate face. Even worse since this should be their conservative car option.

Yes. Well, probably. They are already pushing the barrier on how much grille can fit on a front clip, making it taller might be the next answer. If anything, the joke photoshop could inspire Toyota designers.

Completely different vehicle intentions, of course. Not just a back seat and 4 doors but also a great deal more luxury.

If I didn't care so much about "the feel of the road", handling, European common sense styling, European interior layout, looks that will last for decades.....i would consider that Avalon. Not crazy about the styling, but it is OK - not too offensive, and it probably does everything well....and will be reliable.

    especially from the front view.

    Interior;

Hyundai/Kia is always a little bit behind on interior styling trends....play it real safe. Hard to be an original and creative....when you are the copycat wannabe.

In terms of design, I would choose the "Credenza" (as I call it), too. Probably more room for negotiation as well, as around here at least, Toyota can sell all they have in stock.

Not a huge delta between an Avalon and Lexus ES, might be worth it for the assumption of refinement, mildly less brash styling, and the dealer experience.

I think the interior on the 2018 looks nicer. Here is a 60 second view of a 2019, at 40 seconds you can see the interior. When you see it like this, no offense to my good buddy JMonroe, but the Avalon is miles (ha ha) ahead for interior styling.

Is the Cadenza what was marketed elsewhere as the K-9 when they brought it to these shores, but they didn't want to call it the K-9 because people would connect it with "canine."

A Kia salesman tried to upgrade me to looking at the Credenza and all I could see was the Optima I'd just looked at.

The last Mitsu that interested me was the EVO 8.

The only Mitsubishi I could ever see myself owning is a Starion.

The Starion was a nice car. Chrysler also sold a version known as the Conquest. When the car was new I recall arguing with two idiots at a Chrysler dealer who insisted that the Laser was a better sports coupe because it was FWD.

    Never argue with an idiot.

Cadenza is a smaller car than a K9, think Lexus ES vs LS. K9 is a large car sharing components with the Hyundai Equus, top of the line Hyunkia.
