SL 500 in that style (called R129) would be model years 1994-2002. A lot of bang for the buck on the used car market, but running costs aren't cheap.

On my way to Chick Fil a (that rhymes), I was passed by a black Mercedes convertible driven by a woman. SL500. The screen was up behind her and she was flying along enjoying the mild temperatures. The car was beautiful but I have no idea what year it is. The taillights were rectangular, not like the more recent SL500 taillights I found. The car had the traditional tasteful lines of earlier MB's.

I'd rather drive the Imperial, although I wouldn't want to buy the fuel.

The Nissan front trim design as seen on the Sentra and other models has a bucktooth look to me.

The Sentra looks like they made the chrome border too small....but decided to use it anyway :o

I kept up with her into the city where she exited onto a major exit which made me suspect she was headed to our large hospital. She may have come from the satellite hospital and doctor offices in our area. Black. Little wider looking than this 320.
My brother had an SL400 in 2016, IIRC.  Red with saddle leather interior.  It had a biturbo 3.0 Liter V6 - 390 hp or thereabouts.  I drove it for a day when he was down here.  Very difficult getting out - it was quite low.  But they sure do know how to engineer and produce a gorgeous roadster.

“On my way to Chick-Fil-A” sounds like it could easily be made into a jingle.  Why not send a letter to their main headquarters and offer them the idea.  The worst that could happen if they use the idea is free chicken for life.  I could live with that.

I like that vintage the most....a little more square and not the round bubble look. What makes you assume she is a doctor? Maybe she is a nurse with good investments.....or maybe she is meeting her husband, a doctor, for lunch.

Not criticizing.......just funny how we make assumptions.....I do it too. When I see a really old senior driving one of those big 1999 Caddies I always think.....he probably bought it the last year when he worked and had a really good year in real estate.

No mention of the U.S. market--but without a credible lineup of SUVs, I don't see how Fiat could expand at all here. Maybe they think EVs will save them?

Fiats are rated last in every comparison I've seen. Right below Jeep who, I understand is the saving grace for Chrysler right now. Our son has a Wrangler 4 door and I miss the attraction BIG TIME. He loves it so that's a good thing. If Fiat leaves the US, it won't be the first time. They will probably leave their owners hangling like last time. No problem! Just wait a few years, bring some crappy cars back into the U.S and be greeted with open arms once again!

Zero-ed right up on the Sentra hindquarters. I do believe I am getting to really like what Nissan has accomplished here. The way I look at car styling, when you take this look and stretch it out into an Altima or Maxima, it loses its appeal. The design parameters are too stretched out on the sides and the car looks too much like a Japanese limousine. :p

Planet Nissan of Las Vegas is selling a 2017 Nissan Sentra S 6-speed stick in Fresh Powder color (bright white) for only $12,777. The car has a whopping 127 miles on it and so it gets the "used" label on it. So much the better!

    Grab it!

I read the list of disqualifiers for usage based policies and I pretty much failed on 1) accelerating too fast; 2) braking too hard; 3) exceeding 80 mph. It's not like I do these things very often, but it does come up from time to time. :p
I have a driving app on my Volt. It always says I have several instances of hard acceleration acceleration and braking. All I do is merge on freeways and brake when lights suddenly change. These things are way too sensitive to trust to your insurance!
I couldn't agree with you more. All I can say is, buckle-up tight guys. When @andres3 gets a hold of this subject he will be in here with a vengeance. :'( jmonroe
Some insurance companies are idiots and have no idea what they are doing (hence the bailouts to keep them afloat). If I were running an insurance company, I would track how many cars pass them on the right to surcharge insurance rates exponentially. I would track how many times the car dips 20 below the speed limit with no car in front of them for 1,000 feet. That would be a surcharge too. If it takes them more than 20 seconds to go from 0 to 60 tack on another surcharge (sorry old MB diesel owners  ). If I ran the world it would be Utopia.
Insurance companies are not the only ones who don't know what they are doing. I can think of multiple legitimate reasons for the things that you would hit people with surcharges.

I had one glitch in an otherwise good day. When I was at the bank this am waiting with all the other old fossils for my money they were asking everyone to "update their profile". They wanted to know my occupation. I refused to answer of course. The other old folks were answering and if they pressed them they would tell what they did before retirement. I just thought that was awful intrusive especially since other people in line could hear the conversation. What's the deal with that?
I think it is because most people are sheep and will do what is asked of them. I may have a problem with my local bank but it is too early to say for sure. Let me tell you the reason: We are about to pay off our mortgage but not at the local bank where we may have the problem that I mentioned above. Our mortgage is very small, some people pay more for their car loans than we pay for our mortgage. We carried it just because I guess you could say, "just because". When we moved back to the Burgh from SC in 1997 Mrs. j didn't want any mortgage. I remember her saying, "people our age should not have a mortgage anymore". I said the interest was low (at the time just under 7% but we refinanced to get 3.75 about 15 years ago) and I wanted the lump of money if I chose to invest it, which I did but not all of it by any means. So that and more is in the local bank as the "jmonroe hedge fund" as I like to call it. Where the riff may come is because of what I just got as a notice today from the mortgage company. I never heard of this before but some of you may have known this but not me. My mortgage bank will not accept a personal check for the last payment. It must be a wire transfer or cashier's check which must be sent to them "overnight delivery". I checked with my local bank and the fee for a wire transfer is $20 and $5 for the cashier's check without the mandatory "overnight" charge and that I will have to get from the post office. All said and done the cashier's check with overnight charge may be the same or very close to the $20 wire transfer fee. I plan to go to my local bank and ask them to waive the $20 wire transfer fee and get set to hear why they can't do that. My come back will be OK, charge me but get ready to see me leave this bank. With what I have with them, I don't think it is unreasonable to ask them to waive that fee in order to keep my account but I will have to see how they respond. One more thing that I never heard of before is, the "County Recording Fee" of almost $170 that I will have to pay the mortgage bank. When I asked about this I was told that this is very common throughout the USA and each county sets their own fee. It does not go to the mortgage bank, they simply pass it onto the county. This is something else that totally blind sided me. I have to call the county tax office and find out what the hell this is because I don't think it is any business of county that I will no longer have a mortgage. They can't use the excuse that they want to know because I will no longer have an escrow account to collect my taxes. I have been paying my taxes directly to the county since we refinanced so they know where to send the bill and as I said that would not be a good excuse. As far as I'm concerned, as if that means anything, as long as I pay my county taxes on time that should be all they care about but I'm sure I won't win that battle but with my local bank I have a shot with them waiving the wire transfer fee. In any case, not having a mortgage payment anymore we will have more disposable money like to get a new car to replace Mrs. j's 2012 Subie. Listening to me complain about that over the years, how far do you think I'll get with that idea? No reply is necessary I just wanted to belly ache again. :@ jmonroe
First off check your mortgage paperwork. If it doesn't mention how the final payment is made and who pays the recording fee tell them to jump in the lake.

As for the county recording fee that has to be paid by someone. Since you have a mortgage there is a lien against your property that is recorded with the county. They have to file a release of that lien with the county. If you don't you will still have that lien coming up on any title search and you will never be able to sell your house until it's cleared up.

Well, just got pictures from my son of my grandson’s graduation.  There were 500+ graduating seniors at his high school.

When I think back on my graduating class there were 2000+ graduating seniors, all boys.  Stuyvesant High School in NYC back then was an all boys school.  Those were the days - I was only 16 years old - a babe in arms going off to college.

Great memories.  From what my son said, my grandson has not arrived home yet and it’s 6:00 AM out there.  Ah, to be young once again.

You live in suburban Seattle? Sounds like here. I've changed my commute route for the past couple weeks, as a repaving project (which needed to be done, the prior road surface was embarrassing) is taking forever, and the work is being done with no hurry. Foreign visitors here remark that such projects would be done much faster at home. Maybe the CUV/SUV makers have lobbied our oh-so-skilled and accountable local "authorities" into taking their time and creating rough construction zones B)
Nope it's not that, it's to keep the unions happy and the union employees working. That way the politicians can get those big union endorsements and contributions.

Weird though, areas that are even more organized in that way (and have a better quality of life for many people) still don't have these situations where it takes three weeks to repave several blocks of a major suburban arterial. But no doubt, someone's brother in law won the contract, no hurry, and it's good enough for guvmint work.

It was in the low 50s all day in upstate NY yesterday, in the upper 40s where I was driving in VT. Had to turn on the heat and defrosters. Wanna trade?
We had a freeze in Nova Scotia Sunday night with temps in low-lying areas a few degrees below freezing. It has devastated farmers of many fruit and veg products and has hit our wine industry very hard, unfortunately. Sad.
The weather here has been a bit odd. in 24 hours temps dropped about 20 degrees. Yesterday due to how the winds were coming off lake Michigan temps 15 miles east of us were in the 50s but temps 15 miles to the west were in the 80s.

Those miles shouldn't have given it a "used" label! We were careful not to go over 5000 miles on our Demo cars because up to that they could be sold as new. Until they have been registered they are "new"! I suspect that Nissan was returned for some reason.

oldfarmer50 Planet Nissan of Las Vegas is selling a 2017 Nissan Sentra S 6-speed stick in Fresh Powder color (bright white) for only $12,777. The car has a whopping 127 miles on it and so it gets the "used" label on it. So much the better!
How did you ever find that one? I think you missed your calling.....should have been a car finder.
Those miles shouldn't have given it a "used" label! We were careful not to go over 5000 miles on our Demo cars because up to that they could be sold as new. Until they have been registered they are "new"! I suspect that Nissan was returned for some reason.
My wife's car was a demo with a little less than 5k on the clock. The dealership kept on insisting that it was new and valuing as such. I held my ground valuing it as used. A day or so before we went to the dealership I was online looking for that same car lightly used and a dealership just down the road had the exact same car (different color) for a lot less as a used car. I used that as leverage. The dealership relented and came down in price as a used car.

A demo gets the full length warranty, right? A used car doesn't.

I do seem to remember that as used it didn't have the 10 year 100k powertrain warranty but maintained the bumper to bumper that IIRC was 60 months 60k miles.

So if a vehicle was sold as "new" with 4500 miles and had "new car" warranty, say 3/36, would the warranty end at 36K, or at 40.5K miles?

Yeah, I know once it's titled, it's used. Can they have a regularly driven demo without a title? Anyway, call it anything you want, superspecial-newest-mint-straight-from-factory-never-touched, 5 thousand miles is not new. If it qualifies for a special "new" financing, I will take the financing, but I would certainly not take "new" pricing, especially if somebody just cut my warranty mileage by 15 percent.

I know the volvo dealer sells their loaners (low miles, in the 3,000s usually I think) as used. I thought that dealers wanted to do that so they would get credit for a sale punch?

Can't tell you about other brands, but for BMW we tell folks to target 7% off MSRP if new, and 12-15% if a demo or loaner vehicle.

I target 20%+ on BMW and MB loaners before incentives.  Doable in December-February typically when there is lots of fleet turnover.

Volvo loaners not as good a deal, generally.

I'm firmly in the camp that thinks YOU have to DRIVE YOUR CAR, so the Star Wars-themed Nissan Rogue commercial currently running seems like insanity to me.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeYR9JdkZjc

Let go of the wheel? On purpose as you decide (for some unexplained reason) that you need to pass two tanker trucks by going between them? With a lane on the far left available. Gee, I hope those trucks are listening to the Rouge and stay in place while the pass is made.

Then there's always the disclaimer, Professional Driver (thought we didn't need drivers??) Closed Course. Do Not Attempt

Yea, that will cover any liability for when people do this on a real highway :open_mouth:

I get it that they're demonstrating a concept. People already don't pay enough attention behind the wheel.

So what I am taking from that commercial is that that ladies driving skills are so bad that she has to put it in auto pilot to stay in the same lane as she passes some trucks.

My ‘07 Tahoe was a demo.. I think it had 11K miles on it when I bought it from the General Manager at the Chevy dealer. It was his demo. All loaded up LTZ version. Never had one bit of problem with it. Just oil changes, brakes and tires.

That said, the GM told me he only drove it back and forth from home to the dealership and vice versa. No towing, hauling was done with it. I believed him as it seemed factory new.

The Tahoes and GMC cousins have become so expensive, I don’t know that I’ll ever buy another. That said, the one I had rode well, hauled well, was comfortable, and trouble free. It just drank gas like a drunken sailor drinks rum....12-13 MPG city. Best highway MPG was 17.

I’ve had other demos I bought where I thought they must be hiding some sort of severe mechanical issues instead of them being a demo as they were problematic.

Difference being, they all were current model year demos.

I concur with valuing them at least 20% less than retail.

Regarding K cars, as many of them as they made, I don’t think I ever had the chance to drive one. I certainly haven’t seen one on the road is a very, very long time. Weird, because I see a Horizon every few months on the road. Hard to believe that a Horizon would be the more robust car.

I vaguely remember Lee Iacocca hawking them on TV.

Could be a demo or employee used car. Could be a sold unit that had problems and dealer swapped the customer out into a different unit.

Just filled up at Costco - $3.19.9 a gallon for Premium.  That’s 15 cents a gallon less than any competing gas stations in my area + it’s TopTier gasoline.  Took 15 gallons.

It would appear that the upward pressure on gasline prices these past few months has, for the time being, eased.  $319.9 is what I paid 2 weeks ago.

Hey as a former drunken sailor I resemble that remark.

As for the Horizon, I had an Omni when I was a broke college student. It was actually a pretty fun car to drive with a turbo 2.2 engine.

Exactly... I don't need to know how stay in my lane when I drive... Don't know what to do?? Push the button and let your car figure it out for you.
