Just filled up at Costco - $3.19.9 a gallon for Premium.  That’s 15 cents a gallon less than any competing gas stations in my area + it’s TopTier gasoline.  Took 15 gallons.

It would appear that the upward pressure on gasline prices these past few months has, for the time being, eased.  $319.9 is what I paid 2 weeks ago.

So Mike, what do you intend to do with that $2.25? Invest, or just take a cruise or something? :p

I decided to leave it to my kids - have to leave them something, don’t I?  :D
    Not if you're @driver100 you don't.

    jmonroe

I am spending it as fast as I can. It will make my kids better people. Money received from a will is money not earned and not appreciated. Just planning on leaving a few unpaid bills for the kids.

Not to mention.....waiting in line at Costco, taking your life in your hands as you cross the Costco parking lot, driving one gallons worth of gas out of the way.....save $2.25 but spend another $3.19 to do it.

I only go to Costco early in the morning before the store opens and only if I am headed in that direction.  This morning, I was on my way to I-95 and there was no waiting for a pump.  I don’t go out of my way to buy gas for 10-20 cents a gallon.
It must be nice to be able to do that but I'd go out of my way to buy gas for 10-20 cents a gallon. ;)

You aren't on here until sometime in the afternoon....no way are you going to Costco early in the morning....even if gas is 20 cents a gallon!

I'm firmly in the camp that thinks YOU have to DRIVE YOUR CAR, so the Star Wars-themed Nissan Rogue commercial currently running seems like insanity to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeYR9JdkZjc Yea, that will cover any liability for when people do this on a real highway :open_mouth: I get it that they're demonstrating a concept. People already don't pay enough attention behind the wheel.
If you can't stay in your lane when passing a truck you shouldn't have a license. If the truck driver doesn't see you, and moves into your lane, will the car know what to do.....or is there another button to push - such as ejection seat? How come the dog looks so relieved that she actually was able to drive between the two trucks?
I saw an idiot today in a Ford Festia speeding in an out of traffic try to pass a tractor-trailer or the right almost get knocked into the weeds as the trucker moved back to the right. All the features in the world can't help that. On safety nannies. Had a Corolla with adaptive cruise and thought there was something wrong with the motor when it kept slowing down WAAAAY back from other cars. Turned it off. Later in the day I had to switch left to avoid a merging car and came close to a car riding in my blind spot. It was a Rogue and after that I scrolled through the menu until I found the blind spot monitor. On that car it's just a light near the mirror which I consider acceptable. I'm slowly adapting to technology but not all of it.
If you can lose sight of a Rogue while driving a Corolla, you've done something very very wrong with your mirrors.

Forgive my imprecise discription. This all occurred at work today. The Corolla was in the AM, the Rogue in the PM and the car I almost drifted into was a Jeep. In my defense, the sun was angled directly in my eyes so when I checked my blind spot visually I couldn't see her. Tough to adjust mirrors so you eliminate all blind spots which is why I always check over my shoulder.

The shale oil/frackers are gearing up, so gas prices are going to go the other way.
Saw signs in PA advertising 5K signing bonuses.

I saw this a few days ago. I follow the oil industry pretty closely.....mainly because part of my investments are in the commodities (specifically, oil). I short them regularly. It’s proven to be a good strategy over the last couple of decades.

While the “big oil” companies are trying to prop up pricing with their OPEC partners, those with more forward thinking mentalities are looking at shale oil, wind, solar, electricity etc as the power of the future. They act as a balance. That’s why I get a chuckle about them when they try to explain a price rise to the same old excuses.....trouble in the Middle East, some Sheik has fallen ill, supply may be disrupted (for a variety of wrong reasons). Given we now produce all the oil we need, none of those reasons fly anymore. Yet, they keep parading them out.

I think RUG will settle in that $2.35-$2.50 range in the next several weeks.

AB....glad to hear everything went well. Now, take it easy and do what your Docs say.

Just heard Anthony Bourdain committed suicide. I LOVED his books and his TV shows. There was always a bit of “on tilt” in his personality. A few years ago, he did a show in the Orient (can’t remember the country) where he said he had to revisit as it was part of his darkest days mentally and he had to exorcise himself from that period.

His death doesn’t surprise me, but it does sadden me.

I usually hit Costco on Friday night (avoid weekend), it's on my way home nightly. Currently PUG is .10-.16/gallon cheaper than my other two "low priced" stations on my commute route, and I don't think either of those is top tier gas. Not too long ago, the spread was .20-.26/gallon!

And, yes, I hotdog/pizza (and free sample, if available!) at Costco Friday night before shopping. Sometimes the best pleasures in life are the simplest.

In college we had Wednesday afternoon coffees with various folks from the University to broaden our perspectives.

One was a clinical psychologist who said that many people live their lives under a dark cloud. To us eager, invincible freshmen that didn't register much unless we were one of those people with the cloud.

I use American Collectors. Not the cheapest but for like $350/yr, they value it at what I say its worth and they allow pleasure use. They have a cheaper tier but it only allows driving to and from shows. IIRC, the car needs to be at least $10k value. Of course, you can just say it is worth that much. They allowed for $10k on my $3500 300E.

I'd like to get Classic Car insurance for the Viggen because (1) it is cheaper, and (2) they will do declared value. The barrier I'm running into is that most seem to require I have a primary vehicle. I don't drive many miles (~5000 a year) and work from home, so no need for a "primary" car.

Yes, that is true. But doesn't your wife have one? I'm trying to remember how diligent they are. I seem to remember them stating something about a primary for each driver in the house but I'm not sure. In any case, I tend to doubt they'll give you classic insurance on that. It is not collectible nor old enough.

Hey ab348, best wishes for a full recovery. You will probably be better than in a long time with that new valve.
A while back I tried to contact you through your Edmunds profile.
I am done reading the book 'Car' and can send it to you if you want to read it.
Will need you mailing address, though.
I have a gmail account. If you are interested in the book, I can give you the beginning portion of my email too.

16 years old - definitely old enough it seems from talking to them. They're willing to let me do declared value for $10,000 on it.

I almost never pay attention to gas prices, but when I threw $20 in my truck tonight, I did notice it didn't even get me 1/3 of a tank. :(

If you put a huge dent in your gas tank, your gas gauge will register higher. :p
If you screw up and put a non vented gas cap on your 1952 Chevy after awhile your gas gauge will go up and then it'll go crazy. Then when you look under your car there will be a four inch space between your gas tank and the straps.

    Don't ask....

C'mon @Isell, we need a laugh. So I've been told, what goes on in here stays in here. We know how to deal with blabber mouths.

    @benjaminh,
Just the kind of book I like, a very 'inside' kind of a story.
The pictures of the people the book was about helped to make it more real.
I had to pay quite a bit for that book, but it was worth it.

Still in ICU and getting bored because they are keeping me in bed as part of their protocol. I want to try walking around a bit. Meanwhile I am plotting my escape.

Regarding Bourdain, it was surprising but not shocking. He had a bit of a darkness to him, at least I saw it, so who knows what can trigger that. Unfortunate though, not just for the loss of a talented storyteller and chef but for all those he leaves behind.

I see your escape went well but you gotta find out who that mean looking guy that jumped in your bed while you were strolling around the hall is cause he's going to get you in trouble. :o

What's the issue with Hagerty? I've used them for the fintail for eons. I think it's like $150/year, and they had no problem agreeing to the value.

Just curious if anyone out there has any recommendation on Collector Car Insurance? The 450 SLC is likely to go maybe 2000 miles a year if that. State Farm offers no break unless I pay some idiot company 400.00 for an appraisal and I'm not impressed with the answers i'm getting from Haggerty. Anyone? Shifty?

Did the bottom of the tank pop back into place when the tank was opened?

For the Mercedes it's like twice that much. So close to what State Farm wants to simply add it without restrictions that it's not really worth the savings. At least with SF I know exactly who I'm dealing with and what to expect. Besides Hagerty got a bit snarky with me on the phone and I didn't need that either. Have you ever had a claim or a reason to "need" them for anything?
