I once owned a Mercedes diesel sedan with a special 33-gallon tank. In that case, it was (sometimes) worth hunting around for the best price on diesel fuel. I often wondered though, with the weight of all that fuel, if the entire operation was self-cancelling.

Omni only looked like a rabbit. Not same car. They did, however, at one point use a version of the VW engine (might have just been the bottom end).

Yea, that will cover any liability for when people do this on a real highway :open_mouth:

I get it that they're demonstrating a concept. People already don't pay enough attention behind the wheel.

If you can't stay in your lane when passing a truck you shouldn't have a license. If the truck driver doesn't see you, and moves into your lane, will the car know what to do.....or is there another button to push - such as ejection seat?

How come the dog looks so relieved that she actually was able to drive between the two trucks?

I think all modern cars should be modeled after video games. If you make too many mistakes, the game is over and it shuts down. Your car would be guided off the road, and a call would go out to Uber.

This would eliminate our traffic problem in Seattle in approximately 60 minutes.

Let go of the wheel? On purpose as you decide (for some unexplained reason) that you need to pass two tanker trucks by going between them? With a lane on the far left available. Gee, I hope those trucks are listening to the Rouge and stay in place while the pass is made.

Then there's always the disclaimer, Professional Driver (thought we didn't need drivers??) Closed Course. Do Not Attempt

So what I am taking from that commercial is that that ladies driving skills are so bad that she has to put it in auto pilot to stay in the same lane as she passes some trucks.

My take is that the commercial is as big a flop as the movie. They were made for each other.

IIRC the base Omnis had  VW 1.6 liter engine and a VW manual tranny. The 2.2 liters were Chrysler engines and trannys. Other than that the Omni was all Dodge.

Seems those Horizons (Omnis) came in 2 or 3 colors. Most of the ones I see are light blue, some light green color and gold.

I distinctly remember Shelby dressing one (or both) model with some sort of tarted up drivetrain and handling package with them.

I only go to Costco early in the morning before the store opens and only if I am headed in that direction.  This morning, I was on my way to I-95 and there was no waiting for a pump.  I don’t go out of my way to buy gas for 10-20 cents a gallon.

    .

You should buy gas at regular gas station chains and support the local franchisee. Otherwise all we will have left is Costco for gas. Not enough competition, and then you will end up paying more in the long run.

    Shame on you using Costco!

I wonder if Amazon will get into the gas selling game....maybe ship gas in 20 gallon returnable plastic drums?

If Amazn does, I hope it is more impressive than the local Whole Foods store. I visited there after a car how on Sunday and was not impressed with the stuff or the store. The people in the store were strange, IMHO, like something from the 70's hippy crowd aged now or the current wannabe hip. I'm obviously not their target market.

I'll take the local Kroger or the 3-store local chain that makes this whole foods look amateur.

Planet Nissan of Las Vegas is selling a 2017 Nissan Sentra S 6-speed stick in Fresh Powder color (bright white) for only $12,777. The car has a whopping 127 miles on it and so it gets the "used" label on it. So much the better!

How did you ever find that one? I think you missed your calling.....should have been a car finder.
Those miles shouldn't have given it a "used" label! We were careful not to go over 5000 miles on our Demo cars because up to that they could be sold as new. Until they have been registered they are "new"! I suspect that Nissan was returned for some reason.

My wife's car was a demo with a little less than 5k on the clock. The dealership kept on insisting that it was new and valuing as such. I held my ground valuing it as used. A day or so before we went to the dealership I was online looking for that same car lightly used and a dealership just down the road had the exact same car (different color) for a lot less as a used car. I used that as leverage. The dealership relented and came down in price as a used car.

He may have come down on te price but I'm sure it was still sold as a "new"

I wish that was true.  Can’t get s parking spot when they open the store at 10:00 AM.  The local Costco is one of the very first ones opened.  Just not enough parking.  Place is always jammed.

The new one in Boca Raton has twice the parking spaces.  When I want to shop at Costco, I go to that one - twice the number of gas pumps too.

I saw an idiot today in a Ford Festia speeding in an out of traffic try to pass a tractor-trailer or the right almost get knocked into the weeds as the trucker moved back to the right. All the features in the world can't help that.

On safety nannies. Had a Corolla with adaptive cruise and thought there was something wrong with the motor when it kept slowing down WAAAAY back from other cars. Turned it off.

Later in the day I had to switch left to avoid a merging car and came close to a car riding in my blind spot. It was a Rogue and after that I scrolled through the menu until I found the blind spot monitor. On that car it's just a light near the mirror which I consider acceptable.

I'm slowly adapting to technology but not all of it.

@ab348, glad all went well. Those transcutaneous procedures really are effective and cut down on risks and recovery time. Hoping for your speedy recovery!

Posting this from a CICU unit hospital bed after getting my aortic valve replaced today. Went well apparently and everything seems to work. Lots of tubes in me tonight but most are supposed to come out tomorrow when they move me to a regular unit. Feels fine to me. Might get out on the weekend!

Posting after heart surgery? That's one dedicated poster!
