    I just realized why grilles on the new model cars are widening and expanding - it’s to provide unrestricted access to accident avoidance systems, parking assist systems, camera systems, radar systems, etc.  Notice the square clear plastic looking sensor in the center of my grille and the front parking sensors.  Enlarge the photo so you can see the other sensors in the lower grillework.

    I gather that is your 2017 S450. My '09 Genesis (first generation of that car) had a grill that looked a lot like your grill. Why do you think it took Mercedes so long to copy it?

    jmonroe
    2005 Mercedes S Class....and it probably goes back further than that;

    2009 Genesis Wanabee model;

    The way I understand it is the first generation Genesis was in the design stage when Mercedes did their typical industrial espionage and stole the Genesis grill design but they still screwed it up. Mercedes isn't even good at copying when the design is right in front of them. They probably thought their 3 pointed star would save them but it clearly didn't.

    When they designed that grill I think he had a crooked ruler:

    GG, I posted a link on RRTIV yesterday. 2017 CPI, about 11k miles, exactly 1 year in service. Asking$41k.

    I hear ya on the Acura’s. Really liked the new RDX I drove. All the Acura goodness, taken to a higher level. Pretty sure if I told the wife to go shop midsize CUVs in the 40-50k MSRP range, she would pick that over Volvo, Lexus and BMW. Though the XC60 is really nice!

    I'm holding out hope there is a TLX Type-S on the market by the time the lease expires in September 2020. By that time the current gen TLX will be on year 6 (?) and the facelifted version will be out at least 3 years. I've seen a few people on AcuraZine speculate a new model will be brought to market in 2019 as a 2020 model, which would be good timing since the hype would likely die down once I'm back in the market.

    I haven’t been over to Acurazine for a long while. Thanks about getting heated? Those folks over there can argue about the color of the sky.

    If Acura sticks to their past announcements, they’ll announce a Type-S next model year, and a total redesign the model year after that.

    2019 TLXs are already out. So, no Type-S this model year. 2020 “should” (term used loosely) see a Type-S rolling out this time next year. 2021 is a total redesign. Based on the new Accord, that means the drivetrain will be some sort of souped up turbo 4 from the Accord Sport.

    A new RLX (aside from the ‘19 refresh) has nowhere to go, other than just a bigger TLX. Even there, it’s not that much bigger. Plus, the RLX’s with the trick performance hybrid drive trains are way overpriced. It’s almost like Acura just doesn’t care about the RLX anymore. They don’t sell enough of them to really make a difference to their overall brand and maybe even their financials.

    Again, my hope is Acura drops the RLX performance hybrid drivetrain into the TLX Type-S. That makes me an immediate player for the car.

    I work on the upstream side of the oil business, doing software support. As such, I am signed up on the web sites for most of the software vendors that we do business with. As an IT guy, I know very little about G&G (Geology and Geophysics), so a lot of the emails that I receive make very little sense to me. This one, below, did make sense. I only wish it didn’t!

    Dear Colleague,

    You are invited to attend an upcoming webinar about simulating interactions between medical devices and biological systems. In this webinar, _____ _____ from ____ _____ will give a live demo of creating a ______ model of catheter ablation from a large vessel.

    The demo will include setting up the pertinent physics in the _____ software, including electric current, laminar flow, and heat transfer. Then, _____ will discuss how to characterize the properties of the tissues involved and how to simulate a closed-loop control system to stabilize the energy delivered to the tissues.

    We look forward to seeing you there!

    Yeah, I’m fine, thanks for asking. Being in a support role at work, I am either too busy or bored, not much in between. I was in the habit of using these forums (and a few others) as time fillers when things were slow. After all, I’m in my office, working on the computer, looking busy – much better than being caught taking a nap when the boss walks by!

    Then the powers that be implemented a “social media block”, primarily intended to keep people off Facebook, but it also wound up blocking most of the forums I was a member of. They have relaxed some of that, but I was so busy there for a while I didn’t have time to even notice.

    I skipped most of the posts, and spent the last 3 days (part time) catching up by reading the last 10 pages or so in Cars & Conversations, CCBA, and RWTIV. A lot of the same faces around here, good to see. The most surprising thing I have seen is Qbrozen owning a 2017 F150 Screw, I’ll bet there’s a story behind that!

    For the TLX, I wonder if they will use the RDX platform? They claim it is an all new design, not shared (so not just a gussied up CRV now). Nice drivetrain, and the RDX handled and road well. so in a sedan set-up, could be nice.

    oh, they need to bring back the wagon version too. Please.

    I have to wonder if the RLX doesn't cost more to keep in inventory and promo material than it gains in profits. I suspect annual sales are no more than triple digits. Who buys one? I never see them, and my area is a Honda and premium car hotbed.

    Just saw a news story about a settlement by the state of VT with Volkswagen. The reporter said it was due to VW's "botched" emission testing. Funny way to describe a criminal conspiracy to defraud.

    Why would they spin it that way? Afraid of lost ad revenue?

    I'm not surprised, knowing that some of Costco's house brand single malts have garnered rave reviews for taste and value. There are a few main components that determine the retail price of such products:

    - cost of production
    - cost of aging in-cask
    - taxation
    - shipping
    - packaging
    - marketing and promotion
    - markups (both retail and by the producer)

    If a Costco or Aldi can take control of the last 3 or 4 of those by purchasing a large volume of bulk product the markups can be reduced significantly. And it is remarkable what a competent distiller/blender can do with otherwise unremarkable product.
