Interesting article on electric scooters in Los Angeles. I have not seen this in downtown Houston, but it does sound like something that could really take off. I might think about investing.

Just a guess here, but I think they have multiple systems. Probably purchased from different software vendors. Which is always a mistake.

I think steel is just one of the many coomdities that will hurt the U.S. car companies. If you can’t be competitive price wise with an F150 vs a Honda Ridgeline, for example, in the end, who pays for that? We do!

The other part of that thread, the Ford Ranger looks like a winner, if they can keep the price competitive.

Just got a call on my iPhone asking me to make an appointment with an agent for a policy to cover my final expenses.  My screen showed the call emanated from Myanmar (Burma) using a local area code.

Normally I would not answer a call showing that info, but I was intrigued by the source of the call.  The young man I was speaking to would not take “...I already have my final arrangements taken care of...” for an answer. So I insisted that he was speaking to the right guy who could get him a brand new Mercedes S Class Sedan for less than $500 and I would personally deliver the car to him. I told him all I needed was his address and telephone number.  I further asked him what color he would like.  He said black.  I said that was great and where would you like me to deliver the car?

He said to me - “...are you trying to confuse me?”  I responded, “...no, but that this was a scam just like you scammed me!”  He laughed and wished me a good day.

Sounds like what I posted about yesterday.

As for who does the designing, I vote for the cheapest bidder.

Yes, that’s the definition, but no one uses the term anymore because almost all colleges now admit both men and women. It’s not politically correct or incorrect, just dates back to a time when most colleges were single sex, so ones that did admit women were unusual. That’s all. It just struck me as funny. Hence the laugh icon. Chill.

So, you aren't allowed to differentiate anymore....men and women are just students?
It really isn't fair to treat women differently but let me tell you, when I was in college I definitely noticed the difference.
Me too! But, one day I was holding the door open for some young women who were coming off the tennis court....and I was told they could hold their own door.

I kind of like the old way better! Viva la difference!
In the movie I would make, you'd take it off the hinges and hand it to them.

Ah, nothing like attempting an act of kindness and being smacked in the face with a dead chicken.

You can't win. Your neighbor will come up with 465 HP.

I've got a lot of competition. On one side the neighbor owns a Corvette. On the other side is a Range Rover and twin BMW 650s. Across the street lives a Jag collector.
Just put in a K&N filter--they're good for 100 HP. :p Or even just the sticker--good for 30-40.

This story appeared from our "consumer watchdog" CBC reporter recently:

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/car-manufacturer-seatbelt-recall-warranties-1.4870461

I have not heard of this issue previously regarding any kind of seatbelt problem, much less one that has been supposedly replaced. In this particular case I suspect the dealer never actually replaced anything. But how does a steel cable inside a sheath fray to the point of coming off in someone's hand? What is it rubbing against? Something seems very off about this.

Please post a story about an Asian car and a European car with a similar problem for balance and equality.

Limebikes have invaded my city, and some end up abandoned in odd locations, like in very tony residential areas where nobody would dream of using one, or clustered in swarms in pedestrian zones. Some of the cyclists I have seen on them (not a huge user population yet, but a few) don't appear to be the most skilled, almost like they are using it to learn how to ride a bike. With the driving skill already in place here, it'll take some courage.

Final expenses - not the way you want to be approached about that topic. A friend got a call from a moving company that said if he was going to be moving to be sure and call them. Don't you call a moving company....when you are ready to move. It isn't something you call to ask about shooting in the dark!

I have a fix for the fear of someone stealing your car then having access to your home via a garage door remote or the homelink thingy. I also have a built in nav system on both cars that has the simple one button HOME feature. I'm pretty sure it's legal but even if it isn't I'm not changing my security method.

I set the nav HOME button to a house about 3 blocks from where I live. Therefore, if the thief goes there they'll just do a lot of button pushing with no success. I figure if the car gets ME that far I can find my real house. If you're too sloshed for this to work for you I feel you shouldn't be driving home anyway.

@jmonroe1 - We do the same thing with the Nav in both of our cars. Actually, I'm pretty sure it'll take them to the supermarket. I also don't program the first Homelink button for our garage but rather use one of the others. Just to throw someone off a bit.

Almost as bad as unwanted spam phone calls are the door-to-door solicitations. I actually cannot believe they still do this but yesterday Bell was working my street trying to sell people on their fiber-optic phone/TV/internet deal. They have done this here every few months. I hate Bell with the heat of 1000 suns as they are and always have been a horrible company. Fortunately if I am stupid enough not to look out and see them on the stoop I am at least smart enough to get rid of them instantly by telling them I work for their competitor. Works every time.

My concern is that they are to fast to be ridden on crowded urban sidewalks but to slow for the crowded urban streets.

The ignition has to be on or the car has to be running in both the '12 Legacy or the '15 Genny for our Homelink to work.

I agree with putting your cars in the garage. No sense having them and leaving your cars outside to cook in the summer or freeze in the winter. Mine are always there unless I'm doing something in there.

My 2er barely breaks into the twelves; I have to add a limited slip before I turn up the power- I'll probably go with the Active Autowerke Stage 1 tune, as it's a flash tune rather than a piggyback and it will get me close to 400 hp.
An M car didn't come with limited slip? That strikes me as odd. If I understand the terms correctly, a flash tune is where you reprogram the car's computer? I believe that's how you describe what I got. Also got a CAI and the 87mm throttle body off the GT 350. Not sure what a piggyback is.

I think my transmission computer is relearning my shift preferences because as I drove around today I noticed it was hitting the satisfying sweet spots more often. If this keeps up the car will be a lot more fun. Now I just have to figure out how to reset the clock.

How much does your BMW weigh? 400hp should make it fly. What are you waiting for?

My garage is slightly larger than 2 cars. In order to keep all the garage stuff both cars and the motorcycle in the garage I have to have the motorcycle tucked into a corner where it is difficult to get it in and out. So during the riding season the motorcycle sits in one spot and the wifes car sits the other, my car sits outside. When winter comes the motorcycle gets out into that corner and put to bed and my car starts to take residence in the garage.

So from April to November the car sits outside.

I should have been a billionaire by now. I "won" multiple lotteries that I never entered, several awards from large companies, like Microsoft, compensation from World Bank, FBI victim unit and of course multiple wealthy widows and orphans from Africa wanted to send me their funds and were willing to compensate me generously for my trouble. Why I'm still at work, I don't know... Of course local police was about to arrest me many times now due to my tax "problems", too, not to mention fifteen last notices on my warranty I received in last year, so it all evens out I suppose.

A piggyback is a module that is connected between one or more engine sensors and tricks the ECU into providing more boost, fueling, etc. A flash tune is what your GT got. The 2 Series weighs 3535 pounds- 325 pounds less than an equivalent GT.

Low miles pushing up the bid. Normally $25K would be more than enough for the car. I can't see having an automatic in that car (it's not a dual-clutch type, just an old fashioned automatic with a torque converter).

Might be a nice car for someone but not so sure the low miles are worth too-too much of a premium. It is, after all, just a used car, not a precious classic.

Well, OK, you WANT it. But why? I'm not against more power, of course. But if I'm not already using 100% of what the car has, raising the bar is pointless. The last vehicle I modded was seeing track duty. When I have thought about modding any vehicle since, I quickly come to the conclusion that it would be a waste since I have no plans to get to the track with it.

A piggyback is a module that is connected between one or more engine sensors and tricks the ECU into providing more boost, fueling, etc. A flash tune is what your GT got. The 2 Series weighs 3535 pounds- 325 pounds less than an equivalent GT.
Thanks for that information. For what it's worth the title on my Mustang says it weighs 3635. Maybe that's with an empty gas tank.

Anyway, get busy with those upgrades. You'd get more use out of them than I'll ever get out of mine.

Liked it, except didn’t like the auto trans. Put in top bid of $25K. Went past that pretty quickly with 3 days left on the bid. I’m out!

    Thanks!

Are they having trouble selling 2019 Kias? I was just looking at Kia Souls and they have a $2000 / 0% for 60 months incentive. That's pretty strong for this early in the season isn't it? Are these rebates typical across the industry or is Kia an outlier?

When will this trend end... 2019 Elantra.  As if the current grill wasn’t big enough.  Ugh.

Home link works without the key

Some need the key, some don't. My TSX works with no key, but the Forester needs to have the key in and turned on before it'll work.

I don’t have any use for the HomeLink in my car because I have no garage.  But If I did have a garage, I would prefer that the HomeLink worked only if the key was in the car and/or the ignition and turned on.  It would keep my home more secure if someone broke into my car while parked in the driveway.

My guess is that it will die concurrently with the full onset of electric cars. :)

99% sure the Acura works without the key, but I need to test it. I always have the key fob in my pocket, so kinda forget it’s in the car.

My Home link won't work unless the ignition is ON. That is the only way it should be.
Waiting at the airport to go to Tampa. Full flight, just offered $400 cash a seat for 3 seats.
    GiGi has her own seat!

    Welcome to Florida!
Gigi airfare costs $50 CDN, about $35 USDs But, she has to be able to fit under the seat in front on takeoff and landing. She should get frequent flyer points...she has flown about 10X.

If I could have got $400 for Gigi's seat I would have considered the deal...$400 for me, Mrs D, Gigi...$1200!

Good point. That is how they can separate the gas burners from the electrics....guess that explains these large grills.

Hopefully the 2014 C250 will start right away. It hasn't been used for 7 months. It is on a trickle charger and has STAB-IL in the tank.
It is coming up to 24000 miles and will need the one year oil change.
The question is.......would you go to the dealership to have work done, OR, I can go to two highly rated European indie garages that are much closer, 30 minutes vs one hour?
What else do you think should be looked at at 24000 miles?

If you want to save some money and have transportation then go for an independent garage specializing in German/Euro cars. They're often quite good, many of those people are former dealer mechanics. Now, what to do at 24k? may be time for engine air filter, cabin air filter and brake fluid. Look at your tires, if the wear looks a bit uneven, do an alignment. If not, it's up to you, you can probably wait until installing new tires. They may try to sell you more fluid changes, like transmission, differential and power steering, but I those can wait. BTW, you should have computer in your car telling you what kind of service is needed.
