    I agree that everyone should buy and drive whatever makes them happy and works for their needs. That includes styling and features, and certainly price. and for sure, price is a big factor in deciding what to get. Otherwise there would just be one car in 3 sizes!

    Iluv, I do agree with one thing. given the miles, reliability, etc. of the soul recently you probably are best getting into something better now, whether your wife's guru thinks you should spend the money now or not. Not really much difference making the move now, or waiting a year or 2, other than having to deal with your current car's issues! And at least you are focusing on reasonable priced options, so not being fiscally imprudent.

    also keep in mind how it worked buying your last car, on an emergency basis. Better to do it on your terms, not when the old ride is dead on the side of the road!

    Just checking our Mercedes dealer in Florida and they have some great deals on demos....I don't know how they get so many with low miles.....some under 3000 miles, some under 5000. This 2018 sounds pretty nice for $37000!.....especially compared to a lot of cars I see in that $40k range.

    Maybe toning this down a bit would be appropriate.  I am as guilty as the next guy for stirring up trouble - but we sure don’t need to overdo it - just my opinion!

    I really like that C300. Though I am one of the few people up this way that would actually buy a RWD model.

    Driver, I think most of those low mile units are former service loaners. I know with Volvos they can only put a certain amount of miles on them (5K i think) to still consider as "new" from Volvo.

    Mike, agreed. seems to have gone past good natured ribbing. I'm guilty too of looking at cars, get all focused on one, then losing interest and moving onto something else.

    I think you are right stick....they are probably service loaners. Probably not to many service loaners in Florida with AWD. They seem to be a pretty good value though, 2500k miles...almost new, barely driven off the truck, for around $35k

    Everyone here has different ideas of cars they like and one of the good aspects of this forum is hearing personal experiences with cars, both good and bad. I don’t expect people will always agree on choices, but I do expect honest assessments. You’re free to ignore them. It’s also a matter of priorities. What do I value most in a vehicle? For example, I’m past the days of hauling kids and gear, but people who do need bigger vehicles. It’s interesting to listen to people’s experiences with them even though I’m not likely to drive one. I like small, comfortable vehicles that maneuver well and are fun as well as practical to drive. So that’s my niche. I will say I’m more interested in ACTUAL as opposed to virtual experiences with cars. Drive the Sentra. Then tell us about it.

    Not to get political, but I’m truly sickened by the news out of Pittsburgh today. Many friends live in Squirrel Hill. I used to attend Tree of Life (amongst others) during my time in college and grad school for various events.

    Not even sure what else to say.

    Prayers go out to the grieving families in Pittsburgh. Mass shootings killings in America is a curse that no one seems to have an answer for. May God help us all.

    Can we talk?
    I think everyone has a right to post their opinion on the discussion. Even those who defend GM against bias. LOL Otherwise, I would be criticized for being pro GM. Oh wait, I have. LOL

    now when I see an iA, I know what it is. When I see a Sentra, I recognize its strengths and weaknesses, that all cars have. I notice TLXs. Likely will shop them if I ever want to trade my '14 Malibu. Currently I'm thinking about a new set of sneakers for the young lady at 25,000 miles and 4.5 years.

    We've seen some people mull for a long time what they'll buy: others buy when they go in to have the ash trays emptied. If we want to see people buy rapidly, go read Chronic Car Buyers Anomalous. https://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/4011/general/x/chronic-car-buyers-anonymous#latest

    Can we talk?
    I have two things I think would help the discussions here.
    1) Many threads end up with lots of quoted material inside quoted material, usw. I think of people who are using reading devices to read the forums because of vision problems having to read through lots of repeated quotes, sometimes 7 or 8 deep, to get to the new point the current poster is making. I usually try to delete the quotes within quotes, and I try to leave only the most recent part germane to my response. If people's quotes on their device show the quotes, I'd suggest deleting as much as possible. On my phone the quotes are delineated with a vertical bar and a color background for that. If your device shows the "blockquote" and " /blockquote" with the lesser than and greater than symbols surrounding them (html markers), delete them in pairs.

    2) I also take out images to reduce the repeat images that fill pages. I rarely use my phone to read, but it is more difficult with repeated images and lots of quotes. On my computer, I also occasionally change the size of pictures to keep them in if it helps make my post clear. But that requires some knowledge of the hypertext markup language.

    I wouldn’t care about a RWD here.   If it snows bad enough we work from home anyway since the kids would be off from school.

    A good buddy of mine ripped me for not getting the Enclave in AWD.  I said it’s just not needed around here.

    Yup. Could be buybacks for defects. Could be buybacks for estates. Florida has a higher than average number of elderly. They have a habit of passing on. The owner of my Chevy store also owns a Buick store in Dayton. He was telling me about the cars he bought back from widows and/or sold for them. This is the owner who would go through the waiting area saying hello to people by first name. They had bought Buicks from him for years. Friendly guy. His dad owned the Buick store before him and the son was the face in the ads and in the store as well as the father.

    Those weird spec loaner cars, maybe ones that leasers just wouldn't take. Some options, but no lighting package (a must-have IMO) and maybe even no sunroof?

    Dark gray leather, to me, is an ideal interior color with dark gray exterior rather than black, which is what I have.  But black is the only dark interior offered in the S Class as standard.  Down here, light colored interiors get soiled very quickly because we wear shorts 12 months a year exposing bare skin to the seats.

    I make sure I have ventilated seats in every car I buy or lease because not only is it hot on the interior of the car, but you sweat a lot as well from the intense heat and humidity.  The seats cool off quickly with those ventilated seats.

    I noticed that in the E Class, ventilated seats are now a stand alone option - no longer included with the premium 3 package.  So finding an E 400 or E 450 with ventilated seats is very difficult because dealers don’t order their cars with that option very often - that would be a deal breaker for me if the car didn’t have ventilated seats.

    Ventilated seats were standalone on the W212 and prior E-class, too. My E250 has them (fairly rare option), and my E55 had them too. I think for those cars, leather was required for ventilated seats, but you can now get it with Tex.

    You can key in on any car, any time. If you aren’t making a buy decision on THAT car within a few days, certainly a few weeks, that car isn’t going to be available, period. So why waste time?

    I post on cars I like, too! Fair bet one of the ones will end up in my driveway sooner than later.

    @iluvmysephia1 ...hope things work out on the Sentra.....sometime in the next few days. I would love to hear what Mrs @iluvmysephia1 has to say about your plans/posts. Can you get her to post here? Seems she’s the true decision maker and would make for interesting reading and let her voice her feelings.

    Is that a C or an E?
    They are very similar. In fact, when I was at my dealer getting a free car wash I sat in a red one that I thought was a C. I thought to myself, no problem, I could get used to the smaller C next time around. When I got out I looked at the model again and it was an E450. I think the red color made me think it was smaller....and sportier!
    This is an E;

    I will do the C for comparison;

    Note the crease on the side....Fin pointed out the position of the crease is the way to tell a C from an E.

    What I do like to do though tjc is to have a back up plan in case something major does go wrong...or, if I win a lottery. So, I guess I like to have a game plan...but, I now have it so I can stop dreaming - unlike some people.

    I was careful to choose one that didn't have a black interior. It is actually SILK BEIGE/BLACK which is light beige with black accents. The black accents are good, looks nice with the contrast and the black is in strategic high wear areas. When I looked at similar year BMWs about 70% were black exterior with a black interior, even in Florida.
    Read that wrong... thought Silk beige was the exterior and black interior.

    In that case it’s perfect.   Beige seats and black carpet.  My Genesis was like that.

    TJC, the Infiniti we looked at yesterday had wheat seats with black carpets and trim. Sharp. Wife really liked it.

    I would also get a CUV with FWD. depending on the model. Just rare around here. If I look at the CX5 (considering it) a FWD to save a couple grand is fine. I also saw an XC60 online that was FWD, and would be fine with it. at least no angle gear to worry about!

    an RDX would be a tougher call since there is a pretty big dynamic difference with the new model SH-AWD. But my model, no clue if the rear wheels have ever been driven. My guess, a CX5, or Rogue, something like that with that level of power, would not even notice the difference. though should get a bit better MPG. Buying used, or a leftover, should work out even better since probably a much tougher sell.

    @stickguy,
    Our AWD vehicles start with all wheels powered then remove the power to the rear wheels when you get up to 20 mph or so.

    Just checking our Mercedes dealer in Florida and they have some great deals on demos....I don't know how they get so many with low miles.....some under 3000 miles, some under 5000. This 2018 sounds pretty nice for $37000!.....especially compared to a lot of cars I see in that $40k range.

    I'm not up on Nissan nomenclature so I guess 1.6 is the engine size. If so, can a teensy engine that size lug around a real car? I think my power windows can produce more horsepower.

    1.6l is plenty. That's what my car has, and it is quite quick and entertaining. Of course, the turbo helps quite a bit with that!

    actually, a lot of Fords including the Fusion (a large car) get by with 1.5l.

    Heck Ford puts a 2.7 in a full size pickup and it makes over 300HP.  The large displacement days are soon dying off for mainstream vehicles.

    But the 1.6 in the base Sentra from a few years ago is not a turbo, and iirc makes c. 110 hp. According to this site, a 2013 Sentra went from 0-60 in 9.1 seconds.

    oh, I know. I was being a little snarky. And actually, 9.1 is just fine for the majority of people that just need basic transportation. Was not that long ago you needed an exotic to beat that. I don't want to think how slow my 68 HP 1985 Colt was! Yet somehow, I survived.

    I think the slowest thing I ever owned was my 79 Continental in stock form. I woke it up a little bit with dual exhaust, but still probably 13 seconds to 60.

    When I would go from that to my 2000 Solara V6 the Toyota felt like a rocket ship, although that wasn’t that quick either. My buddy’s 1998 Grand Prix with the 3800 Supercharged used to smoke it.

    Not a drag racer for sure.
    Adequate power, but you do feel added weight uphill, once you get more than 2 people.
