Hope you feel better soon Mike, pneumonia isn't something to mess with.

Just got home from work. Slow going and visibility is really bad. It's mid teens and still snowing. I cleaned up the snow before I went to work and my wife cleared it again at some point. Will be starting the snowblower again soon. The Escape has a blowtorch for a defroster, but it still had a hard time keeping the windshield clear.

I enjoyed this Post analysis of the "last" play and how NE's decision not to call a time out may have factored into the pass call.

Mercedes and BMW won the ad war buzz, at least from Edmunds' point of view.

There is a lot of house construction going on all over Florida, but a massive amount in the Tampa area. I saw a builders sign yesterday that I thought was peculiar:
"Houses Starting from the High $190,000s"

Why not just say from $200000? Or even from under $200000.

Psychological barrier. That's why we buy things for $9.99 and pay $2.049 for gasoline.

Yeh, but it would be like saying buy an item from the high $9.90 cent range. And does gas at $2.049 really sound better than $2.05, and would you drive 5 miles to 1/10 of a cent a gallon?

Random thoughts from the cabin bound.

12" of snow as of this post. School closed, bored to death. Wife thinking of thing for me to do all of which involve going out into the white death.

My plow guy called at 10am wanting to know if he could come and plow. I said he better wait until the snow stopped. Actually was worried that he was setting me up for a double whammy where he plows 6" twice instead of 12" once. Hope he doesn't get mad and not show at all.

    Saw this car on CL:

$65k, 5000 miles. I think I saw this car pass me on the street a few months ago and it was so beautiful I almost went off the road. http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/4849026604.html

I suppose I could trade him even for my house.

I have had some entertainment since Thursday because we are keeping Nielson diaries of our TV watching. Son has been here part of the time and his prime show is the CSI OR Law and Order marathons on USA for the one television where his computer is when he's home. He's probably giving them a bounce in their ratings.

No but I could move. :D

Maybe that's why he's selling it, took it out in an inch of snow and had to be towed out of the ditch across the street.

    You could move to Florida.

It's always fun around here with the snow and salts on the road. When there's a nice, warmer day into the autumn or during the winter and rains have washed the salt off the roads, out come the Corvettes for a nice drive to lube the seals and circulate the lubricants. And some other classics show up as well.

I am amazed at how many garages in this nice town have a Corvette in them under a cover.

    I'm getting my winter on.
Yesterday it was 35 degrees out and I felt like I needed to crack open the window in the car. No thought of using the heater.
Today I was taking care of the snow, it was 15 degrees out and I felt perfectly happy out there. Maybe a little overdressed wearing a wool hat.

You don't use the heater at 35 deg (F.)? I have the heater set to 82 when it's 35 out. If it hits 50 then I may lower the setting to 80. I want that warm air blowing out at me.

Yesterday morning, I woke up with a 102.4 fever.  Called the doctor and he ordered levaquin for me, a strong antibiotic.  By 5:00 PM, my temp hit 103.2 - I couldn't believe it because I have never had such a high fever.  So I took it again, and sure enough - 103,2.

So I drove to the emergency room and I was admitted to the hospital once again.  They think it might be the early stages of pneumonia.  I just can't seem to get a break.

They are are going to keep me here for a few days.  At least my fever broke.

I've been on Levaquin before too. Believe that stuff is strong enough to nail most kinds of bugs. Anyway, get well and get lots of rest. If you need more sleep, I can send you a bed time story with way more details about inline and v6 engines - or we can discuss the virtues of old flatheads versus OHV engines. Are you snoring yet?

    Good Luck!

The shark was out of step and out of synch most of the time. He said after it was awkward wearing the shark costume and it was hard to see out of, at one point he walked into one of the palm trees but that wasn't caught on camera.

Verdugo, my friend was wrong about fans not caring about the game. It was the most watched game ever...1/3 of Americans watching it or at least the ads.

@abacomike‌ - let me add my desire for you to have a speedy recovery.

Both my folks are in the hospital. Dad went in last Friday with breathing issues; mom was admitted on Saturday with multiple issues - high blood sugar and low blood pressure among them. Now she's trying to get rid of a kidney stone.

May have to fly to CA once they're released to make sure everything is OK.

Maybe you can answer a question I have. What would possess someone to buy $86k worth of Corvette only to sell it after 5900 miles for a $21k loss? Even Mike doesn't dump them that fast.

My frugal mind always suspects racing, accident or abuse but some of you guys jump in and out of cars pretty quick so I guess it's possible the seller just got bored.

If I thought that car was tip top and I had $65k in the mattress I'd love to have it.

I don't know, to me that yellow with the black accents looks really nice. I was talking to someone about automatics in sporty cars with someone today and it got me thinking. Does an auto tranny detract from the value? Even in Corvettes I imagine that the majority are sold with auto.

You think that price for a one year old car with 5900 miles is high? What are similar cars going for? I admit I don't follow Corvette prices.

When I worked at a high end exotic car dealer this was very common. A lot of people buy the newest toy, play with it for a few months and then get rid of it. A $20k loss for someone who makes a few hundred grand a month and has a net worth of millions is pocket change. Sort of like an average Joe buying a $40 shirt and wearing it once or twice only.

Only 38% of 2014 Corvettes were manuals. So, whether it was automatic or manual wouldn't detract from the sale of the car.

Boomcheck is right. If a person has $10million dollars in savings, they are probably getting at least $1million a year in interest, about $100k a month. You can only spend so much, might as well keep trying to find happiness.

btw...where is Mike today, I don't think he has checked in yet. Hope just resting up.

It was not uncommon to see clients buy $300k+ exotics, drive them a few weekends during nicer weather over the course of a few months and bring them back to the dealer for consignment with less than a 1000 miles on them, priced about $30k-$50k less than new ones. They were usually owned by upper management of well known companies who have vacation homes here.

A lot of overseas students would do that as well.

I hope your parents have a rapid recovery. Will send good vibes your way.

Verdugo, my friend was wrong about fans not caring about the game. It was the most watched game ever...1/3 of Americans watching it or at least the ads.

That doesn't prove it one way or another driver. Maybe if a Texas team had played half the country would've watched. :)

Here's something for you enthusiasts. Even has a stick.

"The Focus RS brings it, with the performance that this segment expects, starting with the 2.3L EcoBoost® engine that will produce well in excess of 315 horsepower. This engine will be coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. But the car is more than brute power. The engineering team developed a new Ford Performance all-wheel-drive system to take handling and traction to the next level. That includes dynamic torque vectoring to maximize traction and corner handling, while minimizing understeer."

Data question folks...on a smartphone, is 4G LTE much better than 3G? I bought a new unlocked Samsung Galaxy Grand Premium at BrandsMart for a excellent price and come to find out the sales guy was wrong, it's only 3G and not 4G LTE capable. It is returnable, so he said, and am trying to keep it pristine just in case. If the data speed and all isn't a big deal, will probably keep it but just need to know the whole data scoop here. I know there are a lot of techy people here which I am not one so really have no clue.
    Help!!!

4G-LTE (which is what I have) light years faster than 3G.  3G was popular in the 2010 era.  Then 4G became the standard with the iPhone 4 series.  LTE is the current standard with an advanced LTE just coming out.

If if you use lots of gaming and data, 4G LTE is the preferred speed.  Of course, you can use WiFi whenever possible to reduce data uses and charges, however when not coupled with WiFi, you want faster download speed.

Hi all.  Still in the hospital.  Right now, the major issues are my extremely high blood sugars - well over 300 (100 is normal) due to the steroids they are giving me.  Some kidney and liver function are off, so they are investigating the cause.  Also doing a thyroid test.

Still pretty sick.  But still plugging along.

I mentioned this over in the "Entry Level Luxury Performance Sedans" topic as well, but a friend of mine just bought a new Stingray with every option save the 8 speed auto. He drove it to our Super Bowl party in the rain. He loves it, but to him it is still a car and he's going to enjoy driving it. He even told me "Once it's broken in you are getting behind the wheel so I can see what it can do."
Bless his heart... I think I've about talked him into taking it to an HPDE at the new NCM course in Bowling Green Kentucky.

    He's a serial Corvette owner...

I'm thinking job loss, divorce, illness...

Or, because it's bright yellow with bright red interior and a rather silly paint job on the motor. $65k gets you a new 2015. CL ad is for a used 2014.

The data speed on LTE is blindingly fast when compared to 3G. I just upgraded to an iPhone 6 from an iPhone 3GS and it's amazing.
