    The search has begun.

My wife has had her Forester for over 4 years now so I figured it’s time to get her something new; even though she doesn’t care. She passes the 5% rule for needing a 3-row vehicle now, at least in the summer months. She does not want back in a minivan.

We went out looking yesterday so she could take her time since the dealers are closed on Sundays.

We started at Honda, looking at the Pilot. She liked them, but wasn’t thrilled.

Next was the Chevy/Mazda dealer. They didn’t have a single CX9 and she didn’t like the Traverse.

Next was Ford/Kia. Nothing there interested her. Well, actually the Flex got her attention. She laughed at it.

We went right past the Dodge/Nissan place and the Buick/GMC place and landed at the Toyota/VW place. She was not enticed by the big yellow things hanging on the rear-view mirrors at Toyota. Every Highlander had a reduced price of somewhere in the 40’s and she didn’t like the 4Runner. She is very frugal even though I’m buying. She was actually offended by the supposedly low prices.

She liked the VW Atlas. They only have 2019’s, but they are all reduced which, sort of, made her happy. One with any equipment at all is still in the high 30’s.

Next was Subaru. She is working on her third Forester so I thought it might be good to go with some other brand. She really likes the Ascent.

It looks like the Atlas and Ascent have 1 vote each and the Pilot has ½ vote.

If you’re considering Ford I’ve found the Edge very nice.

Steelers have been kidding themselves for a little while, now.....hanging onto Big Ben a little too long instead of drafting his successor.

Bengals did the same thing with Dalton. We could have drafted Lamar Jackson. WE didn’t. Bengals have waisted so much draft capital that we could have fielded a good team with the ones Bengals could have drafted, but didn’t.

At least the REDs have one of the best starting rotations in the NL set up for next year, and a couple of young sluggers to build around (Aquino and Suarez).

Are you're sure you aren't thinking of Eli Manning? Roethlisberger lead the league in passing yards last year and has consistently played at a high level for quite awhile. It remains to be see how he comes back from this injury, which is eerily similar to how the Steeler's last franchise QB went down before he called it quits, but his potential successor has 14 games to showcase what he's got. If he's a dud then they should be in prime position next year to snag a new QB.

I would definitely recommend the Ascent over the Atlas, from everything I have read. and try to find a CX9, they are quite nice.

I wonder how much a barrel of oil will jump in price when the market opens tomorrow. My guess is $15.00+. That would put it at over $73.00 a barrel.

I filled up two cars yesterday, one with RUG @ $2.39, one with PUG @ $2.99. So far prices haven’t changed. In fact for RUG prices have come down a little.

I don’t expect that to last so I’m gassing the rest of the fleet tomorrow.
Prices around here are at about $3.10 for RUG up maybe 20 cents.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, a Miami Dolphin safety who wanted to be traded, was just traded to the Steelers for a 1st round draft pick. So I was right - the Dolphins are “TANKING” the 2019 football season. And rumors have it that they are not done trading away their best players.

This is truly gruesome - the Miami Marlins have been doing the same thing. This is very depressing! 😩😗🤨😂🤣😅

Things changed and we ended up with our Outback (which we absolutely love), but we still love the Ascent. Just no need for the third row or extra cargo space so it seems silly to spend on it.

Not necessarily, the Acadia while still three rows is quite a bit smaller than the Traverse. They aren’t the same as with the prior generation.

Not to mention the level of taxpayer-based support often given to these teams, which serve as ego-boosting toys for often born on third base zillionaires who deserve the help as they work hard and do it themselves.

I have mixed feelings because if the Steelers bomb the rest of the reason they lose what could be critical draft positioning for a QB of the future. On the flip side this trade addresses a need for now and the future and they are clearly banking on Big Ben returning to play out his contract at a high level and it's a show of faith they haven't thrown in the towel on 2019 either, even if there is significant doubt.

Speaking of NFL salaries, I came across this website that lays out the contracts, salaries and bonuses for every NFL team. Not quite sure what each column means though especially "cap number" and "dead money."

Cap number is the amount assigned to count against the salary cap, which is usually a complicated calculation and not what they are actually being paid.

Not sure about dead money. Might be what they are guaranteed in the future, and cap savings is what team can recoup if player gets cut?

I’ve never totally understood it but I think dead money includes things like signing bonuses and deferred payment, pro-rated over the term of the contract.

    Had to find out what an Ascent was. I think I have seen them......they look pretty nice, reviews are excellent, usually 4 out of 5 stars;

The Outback gets similar excellent reviews, seems to be sufficient if you don't need the 3rd seat.

I'm no guru either but I think that's it. Give a player a large signing bonus and the team can spread it over the life of the contract, which they usually do for salary cap purposes. Unfortunately when teams defer too much bonus money into the later years of a contract, years where the player might get cut, that it starts impacting the team's salary cap in a negative way.

According to news reports, next year (2020 NFL season), the Dolphins already have 3 1st round draft choices and an available 100 million dollar salary cap. In 2021, they have 4 more 1st round picks. But they admit this year will be most unfortunate for fans. TELL ME ABOUT IT!🤪😜😂

by your name (probably easier on the computer) there is an icon for account preferences (looks like a gear). click that, select edit profile (or profile) and that brings up a screen with notification preferences. you can set preferences for a bunch of stuff. Last one on the list is for new mail. default is pop up (which you usually never see), so change that to be Email, and if you get a message you will get an email letting you know it is there.

Unfortunately when teams defer too much bonus money into the later years of a contract, years where the player might get cut, that it starts impacting the team's salary cap in a negative way.

Hey Pensfan, I was looking to change the photo of my car and I noticed a message from you dated March, 2018 - something about meeting up for lunch when you were in town - am I too late? 🤪😜

I noticed a load of old messages - how are we supposed to be alerted that an internal message was sent to us? Hmmmmmm!
Ha! Well that's ok, I'll be back in Hollywood for my annual conference in March so you can treat me then ;)

    Talking about mid-size SUVs. I found this list interesting.....Top 3 are HyundKIAS, Ascent is #6;
    TOP MID SIZE SUVs
I notice the scoring is close though....probably can go more by preference than the list.

The link takes me to a screen full of articles. Which one is it?

One of my short list options finishes #2! The other 4 aren’t included. But they have, to me, a broad definition of midsized. Some of these are kinda big.

And where’s the outback? That fits right in with this bunch.

list would be quite different if resale value was part of the criteria.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

it is actually pretty low on the scale for me. If we lease it, just the monthly nut matters. If we buy it, will be keeping it for a long enough time that resale will be pretty well irrelevant, but warranty coverage will be a consideration. Planning to keep something for 10 years, knowing that it will have powertrain coverage the entire time (unless of course your initials are JM) is nice.

I say, buy what you want, not what the next owner wants!

Oldfarmer will like that The KIA Soul is number 1 on the small SUV list:

Crosstrek is #6 on the small SUV list.
Outback is on the wagons list....#2 after Audi - very impressive:

well, I know I will not be sending the outback review to my wife. Not if they put in on the wagon list!
