I am from home 99.5% of the time. I go into the local office only for administrative stuff. I can reserve a desk or office if I need it. But I rarely do. My whole team is remote and not located in Seattle, so no point in going in.

I’ve been a remote worker for 20+ years. There’s an office at our HQ with my name on a nameplate outside the door. But, whenever I go there (which is maybe 2-3 times/year), everyone around the office looks at me like I’m an interloper. Plus, there’s nothing on the walls. Just a screen, keyboard and mouse sitting on an empty desk looking forlorn. LOL!

My office phone is a cell (Android). My laptop is an HP running windows. I have a printer, desk, keyboard, mouse, monitor, pics on the wall and a view out my window of the woods in my back yard. I like it that way.

I have another cell phone for all my personal stuff (iPhone). My personal laptop is a MAcBook Air. And, when I just need access to emails, I use my iPad as my travel computer.

So, I have one foot in the Android and Windows environment and another in the Apple ecosystem.

Q...thanks for looking up the lease parameters on both Kias and Genesis. Looks like if I’m going to dip my toes back into the leasing pool, neither will be on my radar. If I decide to buy outright, the Stinger GT is still selling for around $40K on a $50K+ MSRP.

Suggestion: Sell a couple of those pictures and buy what you really want...a Porsche. ;)

They had to shut down FLL for 3-4 hours this morning due to 7.5 inches of rain in just 3 hours - runways were flooded. We had 5 inches of rain here in my area. Those tornado warnings have been lifted. Rainfall amounts broke records for one day totals.

These Florida folks go to Florida and tell us how great it is because they aren't getting COLD and they aren't getting SNOW like those of us back north are. Four-lettered words.

Then they get a little RAIN and warm breezes and they complain. Never happy.

Yeh, it was a disaster....my tennis game got canceled this morning because the courts were too wet :'(
I have played 3 times a week since Nov 1st, and I have been rained out twice now....terrible!
We had sunshine from 10 a.m. until noon today, so we took Trixie and walked around the Outlet Mall, a really tough day!

Only got to 70 today, should be no rain and be in the high 70s for the rest of the week and weekend.

Maytag update for those of you anxiously wanting to know how it is working.
It does a fantastic job, and we like the way it works with all the lights to tell you what it is doing.
So nice not to have to scrape off plates and live like the Waltons....now the garbage disposal can chomp up most things and if they get missed the Maytag has the strongest mulcher in the business.

Hand washed the winter gray off the cars today. We were coming home from visiting and the car was filthy. Temps got into the 50s. Picked the dog up and went by a couple of car washes and they were backed up onto the roads. So I turned the front hose back on and got to it. Of course it was back into the 40s by then so my fingers got pretty numb :)

In Florida we do a Florida wash. Just leave the car out in the rain and it turns out sparkling clean!

I would have done ours in the driveway but I was not able to get to it until dark. so went over after dinner to the spray it off yourself place. $3 and all the residual salt and grime is off, so I can touch it now without getting filthy. then came home, toweled it off, and scrub the windshield inside and out. so should be good to go for Christmas travel tomorrow (heading to OldFarmer land).

Hopefully it stays dry, otherwise the salt spray on the NY Thruway will make the wash job a distant memory! But at least it will look good on the way up.

Driver, thanks for the Maytag report. Our old one seems to be working OK again. Not sure what was going on the other day. Maybe we imagined it all and once we started screwing around it got confused. In any case, DW shopping is not on hold. But if we need to end up getting one, definitely going with the nicer Maytag.

my Amazon box of filter came today. New air and cabin filters for the RDX. so much cheaper than having the dealer do it, and I think it was a total of 5 minutes to replace both. 3 of which were spent emptying out the glove box crap, then putting it back!

$22 total. Dealer wanted $49 just to put in an air filter. and the package of cabin filters was a 2 pack, so one for the future (or may use it in the TLX which I think uses the same one).

old ones were pretty dirty looking. so glad to have fresh ones in there.

My problem with having a beater is that if it's a pretty nice car I just can't leave it alone. As I mentioned a while back, I put new speakers in the Clubman and also updated the navigation system. Then I got tired of looking at the broken passenger sun visor and bought a new one. Today I installed a set of Phillips X-treme Vision headlamp bulbs.

Shouldn’t be too salty, we’re not expecting any snow this week.

Be careful on the local highways around here. Just some of the craziness going on includes:

Christmas shopping pedestrians getting run down on the sidewalk.

Masked man breaking into cars at the mall leads police on an hour long chase through multiple towns before crashing his stolen truck.

Two drunken women crash in separate incidents (one into a house) at a village near your relatives.

People airlifted to the hospital after pulling out from the shoulder in front of a tractor-trailer on the Thruway where you’ll be driving.

    And that’s just today.

Had to go out and take the dog to the vet yesterday (unexpected) and ran some errands. We aren’t even in a big city and it was nuts! Every parking lot jammed full. It’s not that people who are out on the roads are necessarily bad drivers, but they sure are distracted this time of year. Happy to get safely home with us and the dog and planning to stay in today!

...and I thought these things only happen around here.
Last week after pickleball I was headed out on a 2 lane 50 mph country road.....had to put on the brakes and swerve to the shoulder as some maniac was passing a car in the oncoming side.

Yesterday I came off an exit ramp from I-75 and I was going faster than most people, but the guy behind me was right on my bumper...he looked like a Kamikaze pilot when I saw him in my rearview mirror. I veered into the left lane and he was going straight, and came within 2 inches of the right side of the car....I guess to prove something to me - the only thing he proved was that he was a total idiot! I thought he was going to try and swoop around me and get in front of me....and I think that was his plan, then when he saw he couldn't do it went to the right instead.

Every day, someone plows into a house or a store in the area. This guy hit a bar/hotel!

Got an early Christmas present this morning.

I had my yearly physical and the nurse took my blood pressure. 120/70.

Doctor didn’t believe it since I told her I had been eating and drinking like a pig since the weather got cold and the only exercise I’ve gotten is raising the footrest on my easy chair.

She repeated it and got the same reading. Without medication.

Looks like I’ve got the body of a teenager.

Just come to WA if you don't like being tailgated, most around here drive so slow that it probably won't happen very often.

Merry Christmas (or whatever is applicable) to all, may everyone get a trunkload of presents:

    @stickguy ,
Do you know who thick the rear pads are when new?
A lot of times rear pads are thinner than front ones.

Since most people don't know when brake pads should be replaced. Years ago an accepted practice was to replace pads when they have worn down to the thickness of the backing plate. That is being a little conservative but you'll never be in trouble following that rule. I personally think that 4 mms thickness is when I'd replace pads. No sense grinding rotors because you'd like to get another 1 mm of wear out of brake pads.

    jmonroe
Some performance car makers recommend new rotors "every time" anyway, so you might as well get down to the metal in those cases then?

thanks JM. I think the big decision point is about rotors. If you plan to keep them as is or do a minor resurface, change pads sooner. If you know the rotors are going to be replaced too, just run the pads to the nubs.

I wouldn't recommend doing that because your stopping distance is greatly increased. Think of it like this and you'll agree with me:

The friction of the brake pad against the rotor is what stops the car. The more friction the better your stoping power. Now, when you have the metal of the backing plate grinding against a cast iron rotor you get sparks and lots of them. No car has been designed to stop from the generation of sparks. Simple huh?

    jmonroe
Oops, hadn't read this response yet; then don't wait for metal, but no more than 1 mm left.

No not me. Blood pressure is one of my best parts, usually 120/60 so I know what you mean. Years ago when a nurse took my blood pressure prior to a routine office visit, after she looked at my past readings, she said something like, "does your wife have to kick start you in the morning to get you going"? I replied,"NO but she has been known to chase me around the dining room table every now and then". Her response to that was, "I'm sure you deserve it". Women always stick together about that stuff.

I had fun with this guy too. I could have moved more to the left and let him pass and probably go in front of me. I stayed in the middle so he couldn't get by, if he did try to pass I would have sped up and taken the left turning lane to go left (2 lanes), which would leave him in the right lane that would be turning left...and he would be behind a big slow moving semi-tractor truck ha ha.

I have a feeling he realized that, so took the right turning lane instead so he wouldn't feel like a complete dork.

Haven’t had a landline phone for at least a decade.

Problem is once you dump your landline, and your cell is the only phone attached to enough of your accounts, guess where the spam calls go!

Mercy, that needs washing. Where is JMonroe and is waxing expertise?

I think that is just corrosion from cheap materials.

Uneventful trip up the thruway yesterday. Traffic as expected was flying. Not expected was seeing so many troopers out. They were everywhere. Only 1 doing a stop. Still ended up doing 80 way too often...

A week ago I was shoveling snow. Supposed to be 68 today on Christmas Day, and have played golf 2 days this week !! I love global warming.

My ex trooper co workers claim they won’t usually touch you below 78.

That hoovies video made me do a search. Only 3 wagons with fewer than 90k miles within 100 miles of me, and all owned by same seller. This one is probably the pick of the litter. Not a good color combo, but man does it look nice.

He does have a manual wagon, but it is a 9-3, and the price is pretty dear.

You’re kind of looking for a unicorn there. Will only a Sabb do? For those prices you might get a BMW wagon. Can’t be any more rare.

or a 2014 C250 with only 30k miles on it for even less, $11700. If you need a wagon you can buy a little trailer ;)

You hit it right. There has been a few cloudy, rainy and cool days this week, but beginning today, sunshine and high 70s until at least the weekend.

I just got a card in the mail offering me $150 off at the Mercedes dealer if I get at least $300 worth of repairs.

What are the odds, I can get exactly $300 worth of work done, and come out paying only $150 for it.

It is an advertising program I am skeptical of......better to give 25% off or something. Why does someone getting $300 worth of work get the same savings as someone doing $1000 worth of work?
