I use the mats on the lease because I won't pay for other ones, and can usually keep them looking new enough. I put all weather mats in a purchased car because I prefer them, and the winter crap trashes the carpet ones. Plus with the dog in the car, the nice all weathers just work better. I do have the RDX ones (barely used) in a bag on the shelf still. If we sell the car I will throw them back in.

briefly looked at a replacement RDX of the same style, just a 2018 (last year) to replace our 2013 (first year). With the acurawatch tech package. Same basic car the wife likes, but with all the modern tech goodies (only missing Apple CarPlay). If they were a smidge cheaper, might do it. then I could keep the all weather mats, and take the trailer hitch off to reuse it! I would take that off anyway if it gets traded in. can always sell it on marketplace.

Thanks for the info......I didn't realize people might buy a car and then want to replace the tires. Kind of works like our book biz....remainders and overprints.
I pictured most of these would be in pretty bad shape....but, I suppose there could be good tires removed from a car that had been in an accident even.

Another source of good used tires is a recycling yard. A friend bought 4 tires for his Saturn from a nearby yard. Probably a car that died of miles and age but all of its wheels were intact and fairly new good shape. Often in a wreck at least one wheel and tire are damaged.
I am wondering if I can get nice OEM floor mats for the C250. Mrs D likes to use the carpeted ones they give you, she thinks it is OCD to have to put in rubber ones.....to save mats that came with the car. The only thing is, the beige floor mats do get a little tacky looking after 5 years. Can you order used floor mats....if not, anyone want to go into business?

Doesn't your Mercedes dealer have replacement mats that are OEM available? Stop in for some bagels, cream cheese, and caviar and pick up a set. Or they might have to order them from a warehouse...

I prefer the original mats. I bought replacement OEM mats for the Cruze when we got it. The driver's heel leaves an impression on the mat, so we replaced them. Now it's due for another single mat, but have to buy a whole set. An advantage to having a regular car is I can buy them on ebay...
I just need front mats, back are like new. I'd prefer real Mercedes mats, but, I could opt for nice knock offs. It seems ideal type of thing for a used auto parts place to sell.
Try eBay. I found an owner’s manual for my Lincoln that way.
Worth a try! I know people buy a new car, store the carpet mats, and use cheap rubber ones until it is time to turn the car in. It is like wearing worn underwear and only putting on good ones if you know you are going to the hospital (or doctors office, or for some a hot date).

I found my OEM mats and the new grille for the Prelude on Facebook marketplace from a guy parting out a car.

Do floor mats on a Mercedes have to be able to be registered to the car to work right? I.e., only authentic OEM merchandise will work?

I'll bet if you don't connect the wires you can get away without registering. But then you'll lose the perimeter edge lighting feature. Your choice.

    OEM mats, new and used

Good info...I will check it out....at first glance seems expensive for a 6 year old car $170.

My lead had no idea about how long I've got to wait till I can get into the 401K, so I'll speak with HR so I can get the ball rolling.
Totally agree with you about work, once you find a gig you really like, you enjoy going in and getting paid to do it is just the icing on the cake! Have enjoyed working in the renal car biz these past 7 years. The first was great because I'd be driving all around Florida but the multiple personalities of the leads and co-workers made me start my search to eventually leave for a better job. Since I wanted to be a part time employee, the Hertz gig was the perfect escape though over the years, the commute just wore me out. Enterprise came to the rescue and though I'm gong to make slightly less per hour, it's such a better job. I didn't realize until a week after I had left Hertz how good it was to go. Again, some of the other folks had begin to grate on my nerves and deep down, I knew it was time to go. Big reason I tried so hard to get into Enterprise. Plus, no more working with picky and nasty customers is great. Dealing with vehicles that have been sold to dealers is so much easier. As long as I have my screw drivers to remove plates, I'm good!

Carlos Ghosn, with an escape from custody worthy of Jason Bourne:

    https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2020/01/man-in-the-box-carlos-ghosns-bond-worthy-escape-leads-to-interpol-warrant/

According to Lebanese news outlet MTV, Carole Ghosn was the mastermind of her husband’s escape from Japan, where Carlos was being held under house arrest while awaiting trial. Like his wedding, Carlos Ghosn’s flight from captivity had all the flair of a blockbuster film plot.

It seems one of the early internet rumors was true. As reported by The Guardian, the escape plan came together after a Gregorian band appeared at Ghosn’s Tokyo home for a performance. Entering the house under the watchful eyes of security cameras placed at the entrance, the band entertained Ghosn for a period of time, after which they packed up and left… with the small-statured Ghosn hiding in one of the music cases.

Accompanying the Gregorian band were ex-special forces mercenaries hired by Carole Ghosn. Upon leaving the residence, the group drove to a small airport, where a private jet was waiting to fly to Turkey. There, Ghosn was smuggled onto a plane bound for Beirut, Lebanon.

A Lebanese foreign ministry official claims Ghosn held a French passport and Lebanese ID when he arrived in Beirut, allowing him entry to the country following a normal security procedure.

Calling her husband’s arrival “the best gift of her life,” Carole was spotted ringing in the new year with Carlos at a Lebanese party.

I just heard on the news that Interpol has put out an international warrant for his arrest.

Makes me wonder.....weren’t the Japanese authorities just a little curious about a band coming to Ghosn’s home to perform a concert? No one thought...”hey, that cello case looks like it’s really heavy?

What exactly are “normal security procedures” Lebanese officials claimed he passed? It’s not like the guy isn’t known internationally.

Finally, how much did all of this cloak, dagger and bribes cost? I thought Ghosn’s assets were frozen!

With today's technolohy why can't they do a Skype or Facetime interview with Ghosn instead of going through a time cosuming extradition charade.

That way the proceedings will be streamed live. He will be found guilty, assessed 10 billion yen and promise to never set foot in Japan again. What could be easier. Its not like he is a rubber baron; he has already returned his ill gotten gains and exposed to countless humiliation. Give the brother a break.

I haven’t bought a car since March and it’s already eating at me. Going through cars listings and plotting out the shortest route to a car dealer 3 states over can only suffice so long.

Do a lot of used rental cars end up on dealers lots? And, do they go to say, new car dealers? Like does a Ford Fusion rental car go to a Ford Dealers lot?

they almost all end up on dealers lots. either new car dealer used lots, or dedicated used car places. they all buy cars from the auctions, and a ton of rental cars end up at the auctions.

Maybe OF knows what % of their cars that Enterprise retails, but the rental places have so many they can't possibly sell them all in house. Plus a lot of the smaller outfits don't seem to have retail arms.

I don't think dealers care what the history is. Only what they have to pay for it!

Then that is another reason I am leery then of buying a used car. Do they have to state it has been used as a rental car....or even commercially? Does a CARFAX report tell you it was a rental....does it say it was owned by Enterprise or by a Corporate Numbered Company?
I thought rentals were sold by the rental companies, or at least sold off to indie used car lots.

Rental cars can be OK, but, I think they are a few grade lower than privately owned cars.

Quick answer, yes. We deliver a lot of cars to new car dealers. As I understand it a dealer can select just about any car in the fleet and buy it. I once took a Chevy cargo van up from New Jersey that was already sold with 900 miles on it. We normally pull a car out of service when the milage is in the low 40s but we often sell to dealers when they have less than 20k.

While cars usually go to like dealers we frequently get deliveries to different stores. Today we delivered a bunch of Fords. Three went to a Ford dealer, two went to a Mitsubishi store. A lot of times the car is already sold before we deliver it. Have you ever seen those ads where they say “tell us what you want and we can get it for you”? The dealer just calls us up and buys what the customer wants.

they don't have to tell you anything about the history if they don't want to (other than disclosing if it is a branded title, like salvage, I assume). Rental? Nope. Just another used car. CarFax does list that, assuming it was titled or whatever that way. Sometimes you see them listed as corporate or fleet, so some cars you might not be able to tell rental vs. service loaner.

I don't think most people know, or care (I don't really). As long as the condition and price are what you want.

I don't think dealers care what the history is. Only what they have to pay for it!

Driver’s friend Billy used to come into our storage yard and point out entire rows of cars and say “I’ll take that one and that one and that one”. HUUUGE buyer.

I think I heard one of the bosses say the the company buys and sells a million cars a year. My guess is that the bulk goes to dealers.

The dealers range from new car upscale to ‘buy here pay here’ mom&pops. Today we took back a long term lease car. A 2006 Chrysler minivan with 136k miles, blown paint and power steering that shrieked like a banshee. Probably already sold.

Yeah, CarFax tells you if it was a rental or registered as a commercial vehicle. The first owner of my convertible registered it as a commercial vehicle which I assume was because it was a business write off. I would think that’s the case unless it truly was a commercial vehicle like a cargo van or truck.

In NY they have to disclose rental use although sometimes they try to bury that fact in the pile of papers you sign.

When you get a CarFax it doesn’t tell you which rental company owned it.

If I were buying an ex rental I’d go for a pick up or a mini van. We don’t allow towing with the trucks and from what I’ve seen they don’t get much real work. We mainly shuffle them between offices.

The mini vans are usually used by families with kids on vacation so I don’t see dad drag racing with the little ones in the back.

Stop questioning it, just do it. My Mom washed a lot of stuff before the family used it. As a kid I thought it was kinda strange but I wasn't doing the washing so who was I to question what she did? Then I joined the Navy and was promptly taught it's not clean untill it's Navy Clean. That meant you washed EVERYTHING before you wore it and that especially applied to your skivies. You wanna question that, sign up and ask them.

Somehow I signed up for recall notices...now I get a notice every week for tires that have been recalled. I thought this one was interesting....Michelin made a tire, and didn't put the proper notices on it.
NHTSA Recall ID Number : 19T025
Synopsis : Michelin North America, Inc. (Michelin) is recalling certain CrossClimate+ tires in size 225/60R16 103V XL tires with DOT date code 4618. The tires are not marked with the required UTQG treadwear, traction or temperature gradings. In addition, on the designated outboard sidewall and on the inboard sidewall, the "DOT" certification symbol, which precedes the TIN (Tire Identification Number) has not been molded into the sidewall. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles." Without the proper markings, the tires may not be used in the appropriate driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash. Michelin will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 30, 2020. Owners may contact Michelin customer service at 1-866-324-2835

Oldfarmer and Stick, good info on rental cars going to new car dealers lots. Some people believe cars last longer when driven by one owner, not having several different drivers driving it. I am sure some rental cars get mishandled. A good rental car is probably fine, but, given a choice, I would prefer to buy, the one owner car.

Oldfarmer, do even premium brands, BMW and Mercedes dealers resell rental cars?

Yes they do. We have BMWs, Mercedes, Jaguars, Land Rovers, Teslas, Maseratis and more. Most go to dealers.

You have to realize that the CCBA types we have on these boards can’t supply the demand for one or two year old cars. Dealers can buy from a rental company where at least they have service records or go to the auctions where they might be forced to buy the same company’s cars that were deemed too beat or wrecked to retail.

Owners get a free set of new tires. That's better than a winning insta-pick lottery ticket.

I wonder how robust their ownership records are though? I doubt Michelin knows what tires I have on my car.

that recall has to be up to the owner to notice. That is not easy to track. Silly though, because I bet no one actually looks at their sidewalls to figure out where they can drive! But, if I had a set that was almost worn out and got free ones, would not complain! I assume though they are fairly recently sold so not a big savings.

Driver, I really don't think the car cares how many different drivers. If anything, it could be better for the car, because of different driving styles, so not fixed in one rut.

say you always rev real low and shift early. Might be better to have a 2nd driver that likes to rev it up and clean out the engine.

Good info...I will check it out....at first glance seems expensive for a 6 year old car $170.

Then buy a new car already! That way you get new mats and that back-up camera you have been perseverating about for what seems like forever! 🤪😜😛

question for JMonroe and any other electric experts.

for an outdoor extension cord, what gauge should I get? I need a new 100' cord. The little round 3rd prong came out of the male plug so probably a good idea to replace. I use it outside, primarily for an electric edger. Possibly other electric yard or power tools (blower, circular saw, or shop vac).

is a light duty 16/3 strong enough (those seem to be 2 prong polarized plugs)? Or should I move up to a 14/3 or even 12 gauge? As with most things they seem to range from fairly cheap to really expensive. But I don't likely need to pay for industrial. My old one has to be 25 YO and probably came from a travelling tool show (remember when they used to set up in the ballroom of a local motel?) The models at Lowes were labeled light/medium/heavy duty (though on Amazon, seems to all default to heavy duty).
