If employers I have worked with pulled those 401K shenanigans and other similar cutting for the sake of cutting moves (some proceeds going to unjustifiable exec compensation, no doubt), I suspect there'd be an exodus, and maybe some leadership types would be afraid to go out in public alone. As they should - some in society without self-awareness cry about "class warfare", such moves are real class warfare in action, we can see who declared war, and who is winning (or who has won).

That almost sounds like, "when some of those execs start waking up dead, maybe the others will get the idea".

Here's an idea for dressing up one of your buildings there at the farm.

This was put up on the Haldeman museum near me. Haldeman was connected to designing the Mustang or something.

“*The Internet Price is reflective after $1995 down. Price subject to change. Subject to primary lenders approval. All prices exclude tax, title, $695 dealer fees, tags, license & DMV. Sorry but we cannot extend special Internet pricing without a printed copy of the on-line pricing, and your in-store price may exceed our special on-line pricing. “

I’m guessing you’d need a shower after dealing with that place.

I was looking for the line that this offer is only available on the second Wednesday of the month if there is a full moon preceding that date.

probably a waste of time, but I found used car shopping so frustrating, that if they had a car that I really wanted, I would look at it anyway. Just like with an ADM sticker on a new car, if I thought (and had some data to back it up) the car was worth X, I would drive it and if I wanted it, would just offer them that. If they take it, great. If not, Ciao.

Well I just hit 140k on the Sebring on the way into work. On New Years day of 2018 I took a picture of my odometer just to see what I put on the car in a year. Well it read 124,638 then. So that means I am averaging just under 7,550 miles a year on the car now.

I still say you should find a way to fix that top. A convertible that doesn’t convert is a shame. I forget, is that a cloth top or a hardtop convertible?
It's a soft top. Truth be told I am only using it now for commuting and running personal errands. And then only when the weather is bad, if the weather is good enough for the top to be down I am usually on the motorcycle.

Plus the BMW is a convertible so we have that to use.

I have nomorobo installed on my phone. I pay annually for it but it blocks most everything without any action from me. Clearly my number was received as a data breach because I had a flood of calls that made it through, but nomorobo had them in their database within an hour.

I have Call Protect on mine, but doesn't seem to work all that well.
I have AT&T Call Protect on my work phone. It does not seem to block a darn thing.
My phone has a do not disturb function that can be set up to only ring if the caller is in my contact list.

A good friend of mine is such a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan he got a very ornate (and expensive) color Bengals tiger tattooed to his front shoulder...probably 4”x4”. He’s die hard through good and bad times. He has 4 season tickets he’s had since the early ‘80s. We figured up how much he’s spent on the Bengals since the early ‘80s, and between tailgating, seats, personal seat licenses, food and drink at the stadium and it’s well over $100,000.

Mike Brown and family thank this guy. I won 2 tickets to Bengals long ago and couldn't give them away, figuratively. I did go downtown and sell a few probably bought by guys who were going to resell them closer to the gates. They were good tickets. 1980 or so. The Reds tickets I won got a great quick bid from what turned out to be an attorney even though the season set was missing 10 of the good games I gave to my boss and family.

I watched a video this morning where a MB rear ended another car and got some severe front end damage and then drove off. A biker followed him for a considerable amount of time as he was relaying the drivers location to the police. All the while pieces of this car were falling off. I was amazed that that car went as far as it did.

Bengals tix are a tough sell right now. That will probably change when/if they draft Burrow. That said, while I pray it won't happen, given our luck, Burrow may go down with some sort of career limiting injury his rookie year.

Reds, on the other hand, after years of "rebuilding" seem to be favored to win their division this season. I love Great American Ballpark, and go as often as I can.

Just read a report that the Streetcar has started to pay off for the city given the exponential growth of the Over the Rhine area which was spurred on along the Streetcars' route. Next up, they're looking to extend it into the Christ/Jewish/Childrens'/Bethesda, Clifton area for all the medical workers and UC students. That would be a good thing.

Off topic (were we ever on topic), but another good friend of mine was looking at a 2010 F150 with 46K miles. Being sold as part of settling an estate. The person offering the truck is the grand daughter of the previous owner. He passed away about 3 months ago. Nice truck. Was garaged and maintained religiously. Granddaughter was asking $10K for it, which I thought was a good deal. Big problem with it was the Grandfather was a heavy smoker. The truck smells, badly. That was probably the biggest reason it has sat for 3 months. When I went with him to look at it, it was obvious that it was detailed and who knows how much deodorizer they threw in there. That only made it smell like smoke plus cheap, sweet smells, which wasn't appealing either.

When I had a pipe burst in my basement a few years ago, aside from dousing the wet parts down with Clorox, there was a musty smell that lingered. I bought an ionizer and left it on for about 30 minutes. Musty smell gone.

I loaned it to my friend and told him to leave it turned on in the truck with all the doors/windows closed for about 20 minutes and then open all the windows and let it air out. The granddaughter thought he was crazy, but was willing to let him try it out. If it worked, she said she'd knock $250 off the price for his efforts.

He brought it by last night to return my ionizer. Worked great. Don't know why more people don't try that instead of trying to mask smoke smell in a vehicle.

Well one thing I can think of is ionizers create ozone and in enclosed spaces like cars and small rooms it can easily reach dangerous levels. It can also react with certain gases to create some toxic gases.

If the odors are caused by gases ionizers may not remove the odor, just mask it with ozone.

If the odors are caused by particles the ionizer cleans the air by charging those particles making them clump together and fall out of the air causing them to coat surfaces of the room or car. In this condition they could be disturbed and fill the air again.

My advice going forward would be to give the trucks interior a good cleaning then let it air out for an hour or so.

More about smoke odors. The ozone generators do work. I don't know if it's total and permanent or not.

OdorXit has a smoke odor killing product among its lineup. You fumigate the area with this, it may need to be sprayed on as much as possible. It turns the residue causing the odors into something else.

    https://www.odorxit.com/how-to/remove-smoke-odors

I recall researching for a friend in a retirement village who had moved into a unit after a smoker. The problem is the smoke residue is inside cabinets, around drawers in unreachable areas, making it difficult to spray everywhere. She eventually moved into another unit to get away from the smoke.

I am going to do a drive by of the Halderman Mustang barn to see if that's paint, decal, or a wood or synthetic material screwed to the barn.

The pictures were posted by a neighbor who commented the value of his property had gone down due to the graphic on the barn. In jest, I suspect. But responses were it probably raised the value of his property because of the great view of the Mustang.

Thought of you Monday when I saw a Soul that had rolled on a high speed ramp onto I675. The right side of windshield pillar was damaged and windshield crackled like it had rolled. I only saw from the main road. Other cars had stopped to help. Didn't look like injuries. Safe car.

Thought of you Monday when I saw a Soul that had rolled on a high speed ramp onto I675. The right side of windshield pillar was damaged and windshield crackled like it had rolled. I only saw from the main road. Other cars had stopped to help. Didn't look like injuries. Safe car.

I’ve seen a few car crash videos where a Soul rolls over and I was surprised at the rigidity of the passenger structure.

Of course you have to consider why those cars rolled in the first place.

Dealers are asking $17-25k for a 2010 with those miles. That would be a bargain even if it smelled like manure.

Here's an idea for dressing up one of your buildings there at the farm.

This was put up on the Haldeman museum near me. Haldeman was connected to designing the Mustang or something.

    https://haldermanmustang.com/

Gale Halderman was a Ford designer for 40 years. I just read an interview he did for Collectible Automobile many years ago and it is remarkable the number of vehicles he was involved with over the years, from the '57 Ford to the Lincoln Mark VIII, along with all the history of Ford from the '50s through the '90s that he witnessed. The interview indicates that he worked directly with George Walker, Elwood Engel and Gene Bordinat in the early years, witnessed the corporate maneuvering that led to Bordinat becoming head of design, and was in regular contact with all of the names in Ford management in those years, from Iacocca to Bunkie, Petersen, Caldwell, Bourke and even the members of the Ford family at times. The museum site is mentioned in the interview as being the former family homestead (presumably left to him as he was an only child) and at the time was still just that. I guess he and his family thought they should do something with it. One of the pictures on the museum website you linked shows the Mustang on the barn and it appears to be a plywood or plastic cutout of some sort attached to the wall.

when my Expedition got hit by a wrong way on the highway, which tore off the front wheel and suspension, I was able to keep driving it until I was stopped under an overpass.
At first I thought I had a flat tire, but the sound was wrong.

If you liked that Lincoln coupe you used to own, here is another one.

OF.....I told my friend $10K was a great deal on the truck. That said, it did have burn holes in the seats, carpets, etc. Cosmetically, it needed some work. But, at the end of the day, it’s still a 10 year old truck, with low mileage, great documentation of maintenance.

That’s a nice survivor. Shame the air ride on those was a weak spot. When you got up to 60 it would automatically lower the car for better handling. I bet there aren’t many left that weren’t converted. I’d check out the headlights on that one as the bulbs would burn the reflectors black and limit your nighttime vision. Looks better without the vinyl roof mine had.

I paid $3250 for mine with 67k miles in 2013. Drove it 40k miles and sold it for $1000. For all it’s weak points it was a joy to drive.

Figure he got it for about 50% off dealer retail. Get some off that seat repair goop and a buffer for the paint and he could turn around and make $5,000 profit on Craigslist.

My 84’ Celebrity was a smokers car right down to the burn holes. Fortunately, at that time my best buddy was a chain smoker and I was pretty much immune to smoke smell. Took about 3 months of driving with the window open to clear the smell.

I’d probably gag if I got in a car like that today.

My 97’ Chrysler was also a smoker’s car. The dealer lit off two “bombs” in it to get rid of the smell. I wonder what was in them. Probably something more toxic than the cigarette smoke.

Those were pretty cars, some 90s designs have aged well relative to the over-wrought faux-aggressive material of today. There's even one on display at the Gilmore Museum in MI:

One guy today said his headlight burned out in his 2012 Cadillac. The manual has 3 pages of how to remove the whole light assembly. Because it adjusts and swivels and does a bunch of stuff a replacement costs.........guess.
$1200! His mechanic said he would try to find a used one for less. The car has 60k miles on it. He says his next car will be a straight forward simple car from the 90s, without all the modern electronics.

    What would you do?
2 weeks ago my 2014 CPO BMW 535d x-drive with about 85k miles went in for an oil change. While doing the courtesy inspection, they said that it needed a new “guibo”. (It’s a rubber part somehow related to the x-drive). The service person told me that it was a CPO warranty part. So, great. I scheduled an appointment. When the appointment happened, I got a loaner and left. Upon returning I got a bill for $653.00. Apparently the “guibo” is a wear item and not covered.
When I complained to the service manager, he apologized that the service writer was wrong and shouldn’t have said that it was covered. He offered $150.00 credit for next service. He said that in the future I should check to see if it is really a warranty repair. I say BS. If the service writer can’t be trusted, who do I turn to? It all fell on deaf ears.
It’s the only BMW dealer in the state. So, do I keep complaining and possibly get black listed, or shut up and forget about it?

first question, do you plan to keep this car a long time and depend on the dealer for service? That makes a difference on how big a stink you want to make.

My opinion, the dealer should say that we told you that (which does not seem to be in question) so it is on us, and we will eat it. But, I suspect that it is up to them how much they want to give you, because even if you make a stink, they don't (probably legally either, unless you have it in writing and want to sue, maybe?) have to do anything.

at minimum, I would get back with them (go up a level if need be) and push it. Bring out that if you knew how much it was you would have explored other options, etc. At least aim to a 50/50 split while being polite but firm.

but dang, if it is at the age where random little rubber parts go that cost more than a nice TV (or dishwasher!), just might be time to move on from it while it is still under CPO. But if you aren't planning to, still worth discussing the situation more. Like the man said, if you don't ask, the answer is always No. And start looking for a well regarded Indy place. there must be one up that way.
