If you guys want, I’ll give updates on both cars. Don’t want to bore anyone, though.

Maybe the Mercedes’ that interest me most are the AMG models. I don’t believe their vehicles catch my fancy. That doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of others who value them. Nothing wrong with that.

Car’s are getting mighty close as far as build quality these days. Even the materials are getting close between mainstream brands and something like a BMW or an Audi. Now, their performance is as good or better, for much less cost as the premium brands. This business model is straight out of the Acura, Infiniti, Lexus playbook circa mid 1980s.

Would I have bought the KIA instead of the TLX 3 years ago? I can’t rewrite history since the Stinger wasn’t on the market, then. Maybe?

Well, I guess I should send you the LOONG POST MEDAL that Edmunds sent me a while back but yours was a very informative post not ramblings like mine. :( First chance I get I'll mail it. B)

Keep up the good work. When can we expect the next update?

Better hold on to that medal. By quoting GG's entire post before making your comment, you're back on top. :open_mouth:

If you noticed, I had to cut some of @graphicguy's post so that is why I had to insert the line break between his post and my comment to it. The reason for this was becasue when I went to comment to his full post, I got a bright red banner that read, "you are 158 characters over the limit for posts" or something like that. If @graphicguy didn't hog all the posting space I wouldn't have had to abbreviate some of his original post. Nice guy, huh? :@ Ya know, just for that I'm going to keep the medal as you suggested.

Unless it’s a really short post I usually never quote the whole thing.

Just grab a relevant part and paste it into the top of the window, then highlight it and click the Italic icon.

Just keeps the forum easier to read.

You can also just call out who you are responding to. With the @ symbol and the user name.

    Here are two examples of people who think they are expert drivers;
    1. The guy in the RAM or F-150 pick-up, particularly with the big wheels and raised, and they drive 1 foot behind your rear bumper. They think they have everything under control, and don't realize what could go wrong.
    2. Similarly, the race car driver type on the highway who zig zags his way across lanes to get a few cars ahead, risking not only his own life but innocent people around him.
If you ask them, they would tell you they are in the top 5% of drivers.

I only hope that they send him flowers the next morning- one would think that they would compliment his “beautiful” driving.

Have you met Cdnpinhead....sounds like you two were made for each other...he "likes" everything you say.
Just for grins, I went back a few pages and found sixteen posts by roadburner. I "liked" two of them. Apparently you prefer hyperbole to counting.
Well, the two were replies to me.........there seems to be a pattern.
    Imagine
I don't really care, just interesting to see you always pile on no matter what the statement is (2 for 2 in my case) (The statement was my friend is a lousy driver because he probably wouldn't change his own fuse).
I wrote a much longer post about how you should only "like" posts that say something meaningful or worthwhile. But, probably better to let it go.
As always, you win -- last word and all that. Of course, there'll be a response to this.
No, I would never do that :)

Woke up this AM before 6AM thanks to the chirp of a dying battery in the basement smoke detector waking up Lucy the cat and her waking me up as a result. These are hard-wired but strangely the battery backup means that you get no real advantage as you not only still have to replace the batteries regularly but also need to go through a convoluted procedure to reset them afterwards.

Since sleep was impossible I got up to find the outside temp was -15C (5 degrees Fahrenheit) and the furnace was still in the overnight setback cycle so the house was a bit chilly. I turned up the heat and the chirping soon went away. Weird. I guess the cool basement must have been enough to cause the battery to show weakness and it just needed a couple of degrees more to generate a bit more juice.

I like the new 10 year lithium battery smoke detector and CO2 detector. They cost more but no changing batteries every year for 10 years. I am considering taking out the wired in ones...unless there is a code requiring them.

One of our regular alarms started chirping....2 loud ones at 2 a.m., guess battery was getting low. Had to change the battery in 2 of them, can't tell which one made the noise...what a pain.

Here is a funny wife story.

The other morning I ran up to Wawa (convenience store for those who aren't familiar) for milk so the kids could eat their cereal.

Naturally the Enclave was pretty low on gas so I decided to fill it up while I ran in.

I didn't even think to mention it to her, and honestly forgot about it.

This morning she comes to me and thanks me for filling her tank. I said, no problem I did it when I picked up milk.

She then goes on to say that she didn't notice it until she was reviewing the CC statement. She then goes on to incriminate herself even further by saying she was going to question me on what I spent $40.00 on at Wawa.

No folks, you can't make this stuff up.

A few years back, when my longtime friend was out and about, his wife monitored the "wallet" from their bank to see what charges he was adding to the credit card. She would call and ask about ones that tweaked her interest. LOL

I'd suggest avoiding some of the many repeats of posts within posts within posts by pruning out the extra material. This becomes especially noticeable for the posts with the pictures. The pictures add a lot to posts, but having 5 replies that include the same picture is a little much especially if I'm on my cellphone reading while waiting for my wife shopping and there's no wifi from the store nearby so I'm using my data stream on Tracfone.

When mY daughter was in college She had one of our cards, for emergencies and stuff we paid for. That card is set up to email me whenever a $20 or more charge hit. So I would text her as needed to see what she bought, and always knew what her books cost and when she bought them!

Wife has some alerts on her phone from the app. I pay the bills, so I'm on more often checking balances etc.

She just likes seeing what goes in and out. We certainly don't ask each other about every charge. We have too many other things to talk about!

Every once in awhile there will be a "What did you buy at XXX" just as a fraud check if anything.

If I need to hide a gift for her I put it on one of the cards she doesn't monitor. She doesn't have the same option and gets salty about it when I see what she has bought!

I'm sure I've told the story before but in October a buddy of mine was asking me about subwoofers. It's not unlike him to ask about AV stuff. Well I was sending links to various ones that I would use, etc.

A few minutes after I notice a notification from Amazon that one was ordered. I thought I swiped the "one click ordering" by mistake and immediately cancelled it.

A few weeks later on our Anniversary that subwoofer was wrapped and given to me as a gift. I laughed and said "was this the one I cancelled". She said yes. She had her friend order it and then paid her back.

I need to retract a few things I’ve stated in recent posts. I’m not a Mercedes hater. I like Mercedes...a lot. Those of you who love them, have every reason and right to.

What I probably meant to say....I’m probably not their main marketing target.

Forgot to post this....while I was at the Mercedes dealer with my friend to get his car delivered, some elderly gentleman was giving his daughter? Grand-Daugher? WIFE?????? A slightly used G-Wagon. I don’t know much about them except I know they’re super expensive.

The gentleman was at least my age, probably older. The “girl” was early-mid 20s...maybe?

I wagered my friend that she would never even see soft pavement with that vehicle, let alone use a small fraction of its prodigious capabilities. But, she sure seemed happy.

Interestingly, as the sales person was going over its features with her in the delivery area (where my friend was being briefed on his new ride), she really didn’t care about the “features” or how to drive it. She mentioned she only wanted to go pick up a friend and go to lunch at one of those “tony” places in downtown Cincinnati.

I must be turning “grumpy” as the years pile up. Usually, I don’t care about such things.

The word you're looking for might be a little more racy or snarky B) But I am sure they worked hard for it, and deserve it. Building things yourself, bootstraps, etc. G Wagens go off road about as often as, well, any SUV in maybe the 75K+ class.

All of these brands have slightly different target markets. MB is a bit more "mature" (aged) than its Germanic competition, no matter how hard it slathers all cars with a pretense of sport. No harm into not being into a brand. Just as BMW and Audi put me off a little based on image alone, not to mention having just a few models that attract me.

I heard this ad for a place that sells car parts. They have acres of cars that were in accidents, and you go and get your own parts.
    Quality Auto Parts
Located at 5109 Causeway Blvd., LKQ Self-Service Auto Parts in Tampa features over 1800 of used cars and used trucks for you to choose from. They have twenty-five acres of the most popular early and late model used automobiles, both import and domestic, including: Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Nissan, Honda and Toyota as well as many others. LKQ Self-Service Auto Parts in Tampa enters over 150 used cars into inventory each week, regularly providing you with fresh used car parts to choose from.

So bring your tools and wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. And please, no open toe shoes (this is a salvage yard). Wear boots if you have a pair.

Looks like a good idea, but probably not for me...though I probably could have got a windshield washer container for less....though the part itself was only $80!

I don't like changing batteries in those things....they make the little doors almost impossible to open, and then the battery has to fit in just the right way. Once we replace these two all 4 will be on 10 year lithium batteries. There are two that are hard wired and they need batteries, but changing 2 a year is better than changing 6. Some check CO2 and for smoke, all in one unit, and no trying to balance on a ladder while you reach up and try to open the little door.

I'll call "The Guy", mainly my BIL to install them, since I don't have the tools or know what I am doing.

They are great options if you have a cheap budget. But need a selection of tools, and enough knowledge of how to use them, and how parts are attached.

Good news is, if you can handle removal, should be able to install it on your car!

But no, not for everyone. Plus it’s a used part that hasn’t been bench tested, so may not be better than what you have.

You can buy used parts too off the internet. Pre-picked, for a fee of course.

I find I now take perverse pleasure in passing BMWs on the expressway or multilane twisty roads these days. Seems most of them are not purchased for whatever sporty/performance characteristics they have, but instead merely for image, as most of them are trundling along like Hyundai Accents.

Speaking of Accents, at least in my local area, they are doubtless the leading model that lets me predict either erratic/dangerous driving or being the slug at the head of a long line holding up traffic. It is simply uncanny around here.

Saw something while out today that I don't think I've ever seen before. As I was moving slowly in traffic up a busy residential street, up ahead I saw a large cloud of blue smoke appear at an intersection with a side street. It reminded me of back in the '60s when it was quite common to see cars with oil-burning problems, which you almost never see these days. But I figured maybe there was something else causing it.

When I got close to the intersection I could see it was indeed a car, in this case a 10-12 year old Toyota Corolla, spewing blue smoke from its tailpipe. I don't think I've ever seen a Toyota do that before.

I shouted “whatever the heck I want to spend it on”. She never asked again. I guess she figured that since I turn over all my money to her and she has complete access to all our investments, that 100 bucks wasn’t the hill she wanted to fight on.

Has anyone had experience with colonoscopy prep that uses Plenvu instead of the 128 oz (1 gallon) of Trilyte for colonoscopy prep?

As I read it instead of guzzling 64 ozs 16 ounces at a time over two periods of dosing, the Plenvu has one guzzling the 16 oz of prep followed by 16 more ounces of any clear drink and then repeating that after a few hours for the second period of dosing. So the Plenvu adds up to 64 ounces total although only half is the prep.

Does the Plenvu have a much better taste or drinkability? Is it worth $120? --not covered by insurance vs $20 for the standard gallon of prep... LOL

I’ve gone to places like that locally in my younger, poorer days. It’s actually fun to dismantle the parts you need. One tip, take pictures or notes on how the parts came off so you don’t get frustrated putting them back on when you get home.

Anybody that would wear open toed shoes into a salvage yard is probably too dumb to find their way out.

Was it actually blue or just white? I’d think it would be more likely to be a blown head gasket than worn rings. Like you I seldom see oil burners on the road. I’d think that the CAT would burn most of it off before ultimately failing itself.

Maybe it was someone who believed in Toyota’s indestructibility and never change the oil.

LOL

I have not heard of this - I'd highly recommend Osmoprep (pills). In fairness, they are all awful tasting and I'd pay any amount of money to minimize the amount of prep.

    Here are two examples of people who think they are expert drivers;

Funny, I never have an issue with anyone (pickup, car, truck, or any object) being right behind my rear bumper. Vehicles don't magically appear behind me, so long before that happens, I'm already yielding the passing lane to them so they can simply pass me before that ever happens.

I also don't dawdle, so that's part of it. Hard for people to get behind you if they can't keep up :open_mouth:

Regarding #2, no one is zig zagging for the fun of it. They are doing it because you have passing/left lane impeders blocking traffic in the passing lane, while not passing anyone, and so they pass on the right, only to encounter another left lane camper, and they have to rinse and repeat the process over and over. All of this would be avoided 100% if the left lane campers were cited and punished harshly and frequently.

As to these types claiming they are top 5%, I have no comment. I would say if you don't have an at-fault collision in the last 7 or 8 years and you've driven a minimum of 85K-95K miles in those years, you are in the top 20% for sure.

No, it was definitely blue. That's why it seemed so unusual.

I don't know what they gave me last year for mine but I suspect it was the standard stuff given the regimen. To me, the taste of the stuff was the least of the problem. It was what it did to me that caused to most distress. :open_mouth:

I don't know all the details (in terms of the names of the chemicals), but my latest colonoscopy was much less of a discomfort than the first one ten years earlier. The earlier one required vast amounts of liquid in and a similar amount out -- go figure. The second one, two years ago, required only a couple of pints and was much less awful.

"Anybody who would wear open toed shoes into a salvage yard is probably too dumb to find their way out."

True enough, but they live among us, and some even post here.

I got all sorts of useful (and much less expensive) parts for my 240Z and the 510 that followed it from a well-organized junkyard, which is what we called them in those days -- an engine for the 510, a 5-speed transmission for the 240, a driver's door for the 510 and many other bits that were either unavailable from the dealer or priced much (much) higher.

Like Click & Clack, individuals doing this sort of thing is deader than Elvis. However, in AZ, where nothing ever rusts, the junkyards here will be among the last to go.

To get my $80 washer container I would have to dismantle a lot of hardware around the front end. Then to hook it up you have to know where and how to connect it. In some cases it is better to let "The Guy" do it.

I have been in 4 accidents, 2 pretty minor, none my fault.

I've had 12 colonoscopies in 14 years. I am an expert. There are three tricks to staying functional during prep:

    (1) Clear liquids for the full 24 hours before you do the prep

    (2) Drink MORE non-prep clear liquids while you're prepping than you think you need. This is the hardest part if you don't drink a lot of fluids during the day normally. I drink 3-4 12 oz cups of a coffee a day plus 3-4 12 oz cups of water a day normally so this has gotten easier over the years.

    (3) For your clear liquids to "chase" the prep, do not use water and do not use gatorade. Buy yourself lots of Pedialyte - yes, the stuff for kids. It does the best job of replenishing your electrolytes and will make you feel 10x better. Gatorade has too much sugar and will make you feel sick. Water will make you nauseous and risk you returning the prep. This last point is only one I figured out since my kid was born and it was life changing.

Thank you. Was the one one you had second something you'd describe as "thicker" and tasted and smelled awful? Some posts about the lower volume product described it that way.

I found the 1 gallon that I had earlier that had to be drunk in two groups 30 minutes apart was awful tasting and gagging even thought I had it almost frozen to reduce its taste.

To me the $100 difference would be worth it to drink 16 oz followed by lots of liquids that don't contain the laxatives and then hours later to repeat that. My earlier colonoscopy has me recalling those 16 ounce glasses of the 1 gallon product at 3 am then up again after the reaction to repeat was awful. My colo was at 9 or 10 am.

In fact, the two pints I needed to ingest two years ago (separated by a number of hours, but I don't remember the details) were just clear liquid and more-or-less tasteless. The one twelve years ago wasn't too bad, beyond the volume required, but the regimen that my wife needed to endure in between those two sounded horrible. The net is that the science is improving, and for $100 I'd do the new one all day long.

    Good luck.
