It was a plain peanut butter sandwich, you could imagine the dog eating it.
Dogs love peanut butter....wonder where they would have found that in the wild? But then again, so do I....I am addicted to the stuff.....especially Jif.
While still in stay-at-home mode, the other day I recorded a documentary made just last year titled "Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind", about the Canadian singer-songwriter of the same name. He is still around and performing even though he is north of 80 years old now. I think it is one of the best biographies I have ever seen, at least for the first 85% or so (I found the end a bit of a fizzle), even though I wouldn't call myself a huge Lightfoot fan. Every Canadian of a certain age grew up with his songs and yet this revealed a whole bunch of stuff about him I didn't know. It was especially interesting at the beginning where it delved into his time before he became really well-known. That section was a great look back at Toronto and even a bit of NYC in the '60s, fascinating. I recommend it.
Lightfoot is one of the few truly great singer/songwriters, gotta see if I can find that documentary.

Chalk this up to having too much time on my hands. Mentioned previously that I'm looking to downsize and am looking for a new house. That meant "sprucing up" my current abode to get it ready to put on the market. Bathrooms and kitchens are what sell houses, right after good curb appeal (landscaping) and good mechanicals.
My bathroom floors were already heated, but I ripped out the vanities, mirrors, painted and ended up with this. It reminds me of why home remodeling was not a career choice for me.
My God we have the same bathroom flooring.

....if this paint job is going to last 35 years....
When did you go from wanting a car that would last 15 years and 200,000 miles to 35 years?!
Anyway, fantasies aside, how do you like your Accord so far? What kind of mpg are you getting? Does your wife like it is quite an important question. The interior design of the Accord is really good, but the exterior styling maybe takes a little bit of getting used to.
It's interesting when you think about a $27,000 car how much money went into developing it. Probably Honda spend a few billion just developing that 1.5 liter turbo (which they also use on other models), plus another billion or two on the transmission, and then another couple of billion on the rest of the car. And yet somehow for less than 30k you're able to walk away and drive it. But I don't think they're really made to last more than 15 years and 200k miles unless you take extraordinary care of it, garage it, baby it, etc. It's weird to see cars in the junkyard that once upon a time billions of dollars and untold person-hours of time were spend developing, building, and selling, but in the end....

Ab, I saw Gord Lightfoot in a coffee house in Edmonton before he became really famous. Not really my thing, but an incredible voice especially live.
They showed footage of him back then, playing while sitting on a stool in the corner of Steele's Tavern in Toronto, which looked like the drinking halls of my youth, and then at the Riverboat Coffee House which is where he first came to prominence, in a basement in Yorkville.

Heavy is right.

Trying to stay in a budget given I’m selling the house. But, I still have to live here in the meantime. Who knows? IF this COVID-19 goes on for very long, I may be here longer than planned.
Still, you hate turning your hard work over to another owner.
@abacomike ...might want to check into your Costco membership. They are offering an additional $1,000 off your best deal around these parts on Benz E Class. Might help the sting of the lease payments you have to eat. Not sure what you have to do to claim the $1,000 though.

I can't combine incentives or fleet discounts - Mercedes doesn't accept them on top of their incentives.
Right now, they are offering $2000 - but my USAA fleet discount is $2500. So I am using the USAA discount. But they did allow me to use their loyalty discount of $1000 in conjunction with USAA. I also have a Mercedes Benz Club of America coupon for $500, but I can't use it with the other 2 discounts.

US auto sales were down over 50% in April to a record low of approximately 650,000 units. Sounds bad right, but not as bad as India where total unit sales zero. Nada. Naught. Zilch.
Noticed the local toyota store/hyundai store has another lot they appear to be filling up. I never noticed it having cars in it before, but now it's a mix of trade ins. I assume their main lots are full of new cars waiting to be sold. Does this mean they're holding onto their used cars to sell on improved buying in a few weeks instead of taking them to the auction?
well, it seems that the auctions, from what I understand, are pretty well shut down too. So nowhere for the cars to go. Though unless they are lease returns, you would think that when they take a trade, it frees up a spot that used to be filled by a new car, and they aren't getting more of them in!
though I guess with holding lots for cars waiting to be delivered, there could still be stock in the pipeline not sitting on a dealers lot. I just came over the bridge into Philly that goes over the main staging lot for Kia/hyundai (giant parking lots with some recon/prep buildings.) But I was on the opposite side of the bridge and neglected to even try an look to see how full that was now.

Thanks ab....now I know it wasn't a figment of my imagination.
On the white wheel between the "3" and the "4," there are two pegs. One time per revolution, one of the gear teeth on the white gear falls in between these two pegs, causing the black gear next to it to move one-tenth of a revolution.

Manufacturers not only closed their factories, but they also closed their ports of entry where incoming vehicles from US and foreign plants are prepped for delivery to dealerships. That added to the grief dealerships have been experiencing in trying to sell cars - inventories were approaching critical levels of popular or hard to get/equipped models in most dealerships. This is especially true with German and Italian brands and several Japanese and South Korean brands.
When I was shopping via phone (first for an S450 and then an E450), the only cars available with the options I wanted were at other dealerships hundreds of miles away or at the port - which was closed. Other dealers didn't want to dealer trade their limited inventories. I just got lucky the port opened last Monday and there was one (1) - only one (1) - well equipped E450 that was bound for another dealer in Mississippi that they could "port-trade" for.
Inventories should start to pick up over the next 20-30 days with factories opening and ports opening.
Well...since I’m doing the “purge” of personal items, but at a glacial pace, I started going through all the electronics I’ve accumulated over the years of me traveling nearly every week. Had a couple of old Garmins. With the advent of GPS on phones, I think those may be headed to the trash bin.
But, I do have a nice collection of ear buds and headphones....some were quite expensive. One such piece was a set of WESTONE B30 earbuds. I don’t expect most to know or have heard of them, but they are high end ear buds with 3 drivers in them (vast majority of earbuds only have one driver). Anyway, these are quite nice.
Threw them up on eBay, and had 16 bids. $263 bid won them (they retail at $449). Original box, all the ear tips, I disinfected them with alcohol. All in all, a stellar set of ear buds at a bargain price.
I don’t eBay a lot, but have done it enough to know how to post and what to expect.
Got a note from the eventual buyer last night stating his financial woes and wondering if I would take $150 for the ear buds he just bought on eBay from me for $263. This was an email exchange, but I told him he had to comply with the terms of the auction. He bid, and won at $263. I wondered aloud with him why he would bid if he was in dire financial conditions, especially on something like high end, esoteric ear buds. Anyway, this email thread went on for about 30 minutes.
He asked me to cancel his purchase. I told him we should go through correct channels to do so (he would be declared a “non-payer”) instead of me canceling and that showing up on my eBay record. He even tried arguing with me over that.
I cut off all communications at that point. If he doesn’t pay by this evening, I’ll ding him on his reputation and let eBay deal with him after that. I wasted my Saturday night on this.

Just bought and paid for an item on Ebay about 2 days ago. The next morning it was marked as “shipped”. That afternoon I got an email from Ebay saying the seller’s account was closed by them due to irregularities. They told me that I didn’t need to do anything but if I didn’t get the item to fill a claim. Since I used PayPal for payment, I should be totally refunded. Generally I’ve had good luck with them.

good luck! My experience has been you can't ding buyers anymore. They file a request to cancel, you are basically forced to oblige, and then you have to relist. The ebay feedback system has become totally useless.

In my old age, I have been successful, most of the time, in avoiding contact over the internet with sites like ebay, social media, etc. My experiences have dictated my current avoidances of buying and selling on e-tail for just the reason GG related above. Same for "tweeting" and Facebook. I have tried to maintain my privacy with the sole exception of the forums here on Edmunds. For those of you whom I have developed close ties with, they have been rewarding and experiential - thanks! But I cannot say the same for other experiences on other social sites.

Finding that out. He just sent another note that he’s in Ecuador now, and doesn’t trust doing anything financial on the internet, there. But, he’ll be back in the U.S. tomorrow and will send the full payment.
Sounds like some BS to me. But, I’ll wait....just to see what other excuse he comes up with. I just don’t understand why all of this cloak and dagger over the purchase of ear buds.
a reminder of why I just don't have the desire at this point to try and sell stuff. Anything beyond a garage sale, where I pretty much take any offer, is painful.
drives my wife nuts though, that I don't hold out for more. I don't think she quite realizes that the only purpose of the garage sale is to purge her crap. She seems to be OK with getting some money for stuff, but I am willing to take it all to goodwill instead (which is where the stuff that doesn't sell, including the precious items she thinks are worth more than any shoppers do, ends up after the sale is over!)
it will be interesting when we finally get around to moving, because we have a bunch of furniture that is not making the trip. Been a long time since I listed anything like that. Could be interesting.
I waited for delivery of an eBay purchase from early April. Was supposed to ship from California. Had some kind of shipping to Illinois, but nothing from there. I contacted seller as eBay says. Seller claimed he's reship. I waited 5 days. No ship. I asked for refund. Seller said fine. And a day later said enjoy your check to Paypal. No credit showed on Paypal. I was watching the clock on original purchase and quickly requested refund. I think the seller was actually on of the companies that's shipping from China but somehow established CA as location of items. The flim flam emails on eBay's messaging, was designed to stall me past the deadline, I think.
GG's past experience with a buyer when GG was selling a video card is the reason my son's college computer is still here with a high end video card for gaming in it. I was afraid to try to sell the video card. I have the original box.

Here Goodwill is still closed. I hope they open soon; I have books from my son's reading days to donate that have been in my car trunk for weeks.
I don't just want to willy-nilly just start to pitch stuff that clearly has value. Garage sale right now is clearly out of the question. Facebook Marketplace is interesting. Craigs List I've never tried.
I've got an 18" sealed home theater subwoofer that weighs 100+lbs. That will have to be sold locally. Shipping would be astronomical because of the size and weight. Wherever I move to probably won't accommodate a behemoth sub.
I've got a wall of books that I hate to see go to waste. Those are being donated to the local library.
It's going to take me longer to purge than it will to move.
As an aside, I've sold more than one set of ear buds/headphones this weekend. Each one of them I used rubbing alcohol to wipe down the cords, the connectors, the cushions of the ear pads, all outward materials. All tips I used (all silicon) were soaked in a water-dawn mixture and air dried thoroughly. I packed everything wearing silicon gloves.
Only reason I bring that up is I'm probably doing more than 90% of the people who are selling on eBay.
I have so many little thing electronic things to sell at some point.
One of is a pretty nice Sony HD digital camcorder. I got it right before my son was born in 2014. I think I paid $700 or so for it. Used it a few times and it's been in the box since. We take videos with our phones now, like everyone else.

If you haven't checked with them yet, you should. Most libraries up here don't want donated books from individuals.
I worked in the book biz, and I doubt if a library would be interested. A lot they don't need and they don't want to catalogue them. If they are current information take them to Value Village or some place like that.

Probably a newer cell phone does better recording than a 2014 camcorder!
I’m sure all reselling will generally have to wait for awhile. But when we downsized, I had a large garage sale, sold some stuff locally, and gave much more away. Generally the stuff you want to get rid of, even if it was expensive at the time, is either obsolete or out of style. Heavy furniture such as credenzas and wall bookshelves — no one wants them. There’s even a term for it — “brown furniture”. If you can get $20 for anything that’s great. Another source is your local Restore, run by Habitat For Humanity. They take everything from cabinets to light fixtures. I figure, I got my use out of it. Many libraries have book depositories that will take old books even if they don’t want them. We must have disposed of a thousand books that way. And in the end, I just put stuff at the end of my driveway with a “FREE” sign. Worked every time.
Interestingly, I had little issue selling the stuff I put on eBay. I don’t sell junk, though. I think people are still buying and selling quality items....items that are highly desirable and/or hard to get But, those who were making a living selling common or items of little value, those seem to have disappeared.

It's interesting when you think about a $27,000 car how much money went into developing it. On the white wheel between the "3" and the "4," there are two pegs. One time per revolution, one of the gear teeth on the white gear falls in between these two pegs, causing the black gear next to it to move one-tenth of a revolution.

Sheesh!

Sounds like some BS to me. But, I’ll wait....just to see what other excuse he comes up with. I just don’t understand why all of this cloak and dagger over the purchase of ear buds.
drives my wife nuts though, that I don't hold out for more.

GG's past experience with a buyer when GG was selling a video card is the reason my son's college computer is still here with a high end video card for gaming in it. I was afraid to try to sell the video card. I have the original box.

Only reason I bring that up is I'm probably doing more than 90% of the people who are selling on eBay.

One of is a pretty nice Sony HD digital camcorder. I got it right before my son was born in 2014. I think I paid $700 or so for it. Used it a few times and it's been in the box since. We take videos with our phones now, like everyone else.

Many libraries have book depositories that will take old books even if they don’t want them. We must have disposed of a thousand books that way.
And in the end, I just put stuff at the end of my driveway with a “FREE” sign. Worked every time.
