What frustrates me about handwriting and keyboarding is that cursive is rarely taught in our schools today
I fully support the death of cursive writing. IMHO, it was somebody's failed attempt at speeding up writing by hand that spread much further than it should have. I'm sure there is some kind of cursive illuminati conspiracy at work there. I realized at a young age that it was a complete waste of my time and brain space and dropped it quickly and never looked back.
Sorry, but I disagree.
How will the current generation be able to understand great documents like the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, that are in cursive?
I don't write in cursive, but I do believe it needs to be taught.
After not being to get into these forums for probably two years I think I may have figured out the errors of my ways! Anyboday out there whe still remembers me? Everyone still alive? Everybody healthy?
You can read cursive without having to write it. Two different operations. And the only people who need to read the original Constitution as written are history researchers. I don’t need to read Article II in cursive to know what it says. I can write in cursive but rarely need to, and I’m all for tech making it easier for everyone.
After not being to get into these forums for probably two years I think I may have figured out the errors of my ways! Anyboday out there whe still remembers me? Everyone still alive? Everybody healthy?
Of course I remember you. But one of your old poster buddies, who shall remain nameless to protect his ignorance, thinks you went off to sell Hyundai’s. Believe it or not this guy just bought an Accord.

Kind of like saying only folks who read German can understand Nietzsche or you need to know Russian for War and Peace. Likewise, those documents you speak of could ever be understood by non-English-speaking people. Consider cursive a dead language.

Trig, yes. Algebra, I use fairly regularly, both personally and professionally. I mean, don't you often have to find an unknown variable? Or is that just me?

welcome back Craig. Did you ever manage to sell that SL Mercedes?
Cursive, I still use it though at this point it is sort of a hybrid mix of cursive and print. At least I can read it. Usually. The bigger problem is that most people do it their own way, and it can be impossible to read someone elses version. At least with print, it is pretty much all readable.

I was afraid Shifty had left! e was around from the very beginning and he was a HUGE asset to these forums. Once 20 years or so ago another Host decided they didn't like me and wanted to boot me but Shifty stopped that. He had a wealth of knowledge. Anyone else? Anyone new?
Our cars? Well we have the 2017 CRV EXL, a 2008 Lexus ES 350 and our elderly 2003 Chevy Trailblazer with 155,000 miles that never fails to perform and gets used very little. Hard to believe I've been retired for 10 years this month. Even harder to think I started in these forums 24 years ago! Makes me OLD! Still stay in contact with the Honda guys from my old store but hard to keep up! What other discussions are you guys active in?
In yesterday's snail mail, I received the closing statement for my S450 lease return from Mercedes Benz Financial.
I was surprised I did not get charged for the two rear tires as they were pretty well worn (21,000 miles on them). No wear and tear deductions either. They even waved the $525 disposition fee and picked up all the remaining payments.
Someone is going to get a superior CPO S450 - I can't even remember the last time someone sat in the rear seats in that car.
One thing I noticed on the new car that is quite interesting - there is an extra button on the driver's interior door near the heated and cooled seat buttons that, when pressed, controls the passenger seat functions as well as the heated and cooled seats. I like that! 🤓
@abacomike, in my experience with a lease, when you lease again or buy from them, they waive the disposal fee and any shortcomings with one’s lease turn-in. It’s not from the pure goodness of their heart, not to mention spending roughly $60k after the lease turn-in.
We always cut more slack to returning lessees. I think I mentioned that I made the UCM mad by not dinging a customer for four tires on a car that was otherwise pristine. My NCM backed me so it was no big deal.

My Volvo has a setting in the menus to move the passenger seat (using the driver’s controls). I have no idea the practical use of such a feature.
Very hard for me to believe but I retired this month 10 years ago. Still stay in touch with some of the people in my old store and try to keep on top of things in the world of Honda but it's hard to keep up!
So my kids are 6 and 4 and know other than water or a crunchy snack there is no eating in the car. If they drop the crunchy snack I make them pick it up and toss it away.
How in the heck do you allow this to happen. Gross.
When my wife worked at my son's school she sometimes worked the car line for the kindergarten and elementary school. She said that a large majority of cars had interiors that looked like the inside of a dumpster. On another board a moron said he quit trying to keep his car clean after he had kids- it was easier to "join in the fun." I told the dimwit that I didn't consider driving a car with an interior that looked like the inside of a rubbish bin to be "fun" in any way, shape, or form.
I can’t imagine ever letting anything get so bad, there’s no excuse. I would of had a case of the red tail by my parents if I trashed anything with careless abandon. I hate to know what their house looks like. Who knows it might be spotless.
I know I'm a little late with this. Working every day sort of....well.
A friend has a Jeep and two twin boys. The boys sit in the back seat. The entire front passenger area is filled with trash and some of the area in the back seat, between the boys, is similar. I've never looked behind the rear seats.
There are times when he is at the ball field, parked right next to a dumpster, and I say he can use the dumpster if he wants to clean out some of the trash. He is just not interested.
I don't get it.
I once knew someone just like that, had three kids in a short period of time. He had a minivan in that condition and he told me that he was tired of fighting a losing battle so he just let it go.

Did the S not have the passenger controls from the driver's seat? I swear even my prior gen E had that feature, at least for adjustments. Handy when you have a passenger in the seat who messes things up, then you can fix it without having to get out and move over.
All of my lease returns have been similar to that, I don't haul many passengers, and I keep the interior spotless. Maybe this will be the one I buy out, as upcoming E-class is losing the traditional grille/hood ornament style for this market, and I like having it.

I'm kind of shocked a new Accord, with its high feature set, lacks homelink. My 1998 MB had it. Is it something being decontended these days?
The 2020 Accord has Homelink. Page 202-203 of the Honda Accord Owner's Manual states, "Homelink Universal Transciever. can be programmed to operate up to three remote controlled devices..."
I haven't gotten around to programming it yet. I keep my garage door remote in the ashtray .
So far, what are your thoughts with your new Accord? I was impressed with the Touring Hybrid that I rented. Likes, dislikes?
Ashtray???
My Sebring came with an ashtray. It was a cup looking thing that sat in one of the cup holders. Long since lost it, no big deal.

I finally got my stimulus payment yesterday but it came as a VISA debit card vs. a check. I thought it was a scam but I called the number to activate the card and was convinced it was a scam when it asked for the last 6 digits of my Social Security number so I hung up. I then went to the website that was provided on the enclosed info (EIPCard.com) and still wasn't convinced it was legit. I then Googled something like "is the IRS VISA card a scam" and saw that others asked the same question which said it was for real. So, I talked myself into feeling it was legit and I took the plunge and called to activate my card (have to provide a 4 digit pin for this also). It appears that the card is good for $2400 but I'll know for sure when I try to deposit it (the card can be used as a traditional debit card if you want to use it that way, even cash at ATM's too).
The Google search said the IRS has issued about 4 million of these cards but that the IRS has not explained who or why certain folks get the card vs. a check. Has anyone in here heard of this before? I'm beginning to think that these cards are sent to suspected tax cheaters for reasons known only to the IRS.
jmonroe
That’s right, it’s a scheme by the IRS to get your personal info, your IP address and voice prints. They’ll be following you day and night now. From now on I’d buy gas only with Bitcoin. I’d get out of the country if I were you.
On ther other hand, you’re dealing with the government so anything is possible. I know the state sent me 3 emails and two letters telling me that they were still working on my UI claim after they had been paying it for seven weeks. That was sent on a debit card even though I had requested direct deposit.

I agree - the 2021 E Sedan does not appeal to me. From the rear, it looks like a VW Passat. I prefer a more classic design.
As for the S450 having passenger seat controls on the driver's left panel, I never noticed! I had that car for 2-1/2 years and never knew it had that ability.
My son finally closed on his new house. He's moving in next weekend. It's a huge house - 4 bedrooms, 4-1/2 bathrooms, huge great room, etc. He intends to turn one of the bedrooms (17' x 15') into a small gym for some of his private clients. My grandson (the 19 year old) works out with my son every day.
I just pray everything works out for him - he works so hard.
No old fashioned hood ornament or taller grille at all on US (and likely Canadian) market E at all now, done. Not a fan of trying to make the E sedan look more exciting than it is - it's not a sports car.
I am certain the hood star will remain on the S, however.
For styling, the E had distinctive cues for decades. Now, it apes other models.

These “safe streets” or “slow streets” (the city has no legal authority to set speed limits so the latter is a misnomer) were sprung on us with no advance notice or consultations. I live on one of these streets and am quite irritated at it all. It makes no sense as described - supposedly someone can now walk down the middle of the street amidst vehicles, good luck with that - and I dislike excluding people from outside the area from driving on my street. And as the article notes, the only enforcement will be from people reporting miscreants, nice. Lunacy reigns.
Sounds like some of the Zero Vision stuff in my area, where lanes were lost and a cut through (used a lot due to lack of existing road infrastructure, lack of transit, and major employers being allowed to cluster in small spaces) was signed similar to that article because of lucky demographic NIMBYs whining about traffic. This created massive backups on surrounding streets, made even worse when the Zero Vision changes came into play. The 'rona was the only saving grace for traffic in this specific area.
I figure I live in the same town or area code or state, so I am "local" - doesn't seem to actually be enforced anyway.
On the other side of town, a couple residential streets have been kind of soft-closed, but these were not arterials and in a lower density area, so I doubt anyone was really impacted.
Our anti-car city council and planning dept tag-teamed using the COVID situation as an excuse to spring a surprise on citizens this week: . Lunacy reigns.

I don't have a lot of brain space to go around, but I used algebra and trig daily for a long time.
I think anything useful I learned in school I learned by Grade 6.
I completed Ohio Hunter Safety course in Jr High but didn't get Driver's Ed until HS.
I remember when the school excused students to go to the county fair and later for deer season. I don't recall graduating with anyone who couldn't do math or read/write cursive. But the whole graduating class was 100 people.
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
@isellhondas, Welcome back! "The guy who bought it is a serious collector. Drove up in a Rolls Royce!" Was his name Hoovie?
speaking of Hoovie, I just wasted spent some time watchng YouTube (the JR channel), and spent 20 minutes watching a 1,000 mile road trip video, of JR and some other dude driving Hoovie's two 7 series BMWs off to the wrecking yard. Both being totaled, although they both looked great. Quite the hoot. Massive clouds of smoke out of the Alpina, oil stops ever 200 miles, and various other maladies popping up. Yet somehow both cars made it.

I figure I live in the same town or area code or state, so I am "local" - doesn't seem to actually be enforced anyway.
On the other side of town, a couple residential streets have been kind of soft-closed, but these were not arterials and in a lower density area, so I doubt anyone was really impacted.
I remember when the school excused students to go to the county fair and later for deer season. I don't recall graduating with anyone who couldn't do math or read/write cursive. But the whole graduating class was 100 people.
