I'm kind of shocked a new Accord, with its high feature set, lacks homelink. My 1998 MB had it. Is it something being decontended these days?
The 2020 Accord has Homelink. Page 202-203 of the Honda Accord Owner's Manual states, "Homelink Universal Transciever. can be programmed to operate up to three remote controlled devices..."
I haven't gotten around to programming it yet. I keep my garage door remote in the ashtray .
So far, what are your thoughts with your new Accord? I was impressed with the Touring Hybrid that I rented. Likes, dislikes?
@sda Love my Accord. It's a joy to drive... but don't tell Iusedtosellhondais, even though we are now blood brothers, I'll never hear the end of it.
Likes: The ride and handling. Smooth, responsive. Yeah, not as quick as the hybrid, or as powerful as the 2.0 turbo, overall very good. The spaciousness and luxurious interior. Overall comfort. The leather interiors is really nice looking. The exterior styling is really sharp in the silver with black trim. Yuge trunk space. Great mpg. The infotainment system ....never had one before on a vehicle. It's great! Bluetooth is a great feature, use it a lot. The 10 speaker 450 watt stereo system is superb. Makes the Mariner'stereo speakers sound like a couple of old rusted tin cans. The heated seats are nice. I like the thicker grip on the leather wrapped steering wheel. Proximity Keyless Remote. remote start. And comes with 3 years free...FREE!!!...maintenance from Louisville Honda World.
Dislikes: Well, not really a dislike, and the leathers seats are comfortable, but not AS comfortable as the upholstered seats in the EX. It's a big spacious car, which makes it a tad more difficult to park. A bit loud on concrete interstates, not sure if it's the tires, surface, car, or all three. And...that's about it in the dislikes category. For the price...tough to beat.
After not being to get into these forums for probably two years I think I may have figured out the errors of my ways! Anyboday out there whe still remembers me? Everyone still alive? Everybody healthy?
They had told me you had taken your ball and "ridden off into the sunset". But, I knew you'd be back... once you heard I was a proud owner of a 2020 Honda Accord EX-L!!! So now you come back to say, "I told ya so."?
Would have driven out to Washington (?) and bought an Accord from you if you were still in the bizz. Of course, and no offense, but you would have been subjected to the "Jipst Method of New Car Buying"... which would have made your day.
Welcome back, and try not to lose that password again. ;-)
On ther other hand, you’re dealing with the government so anything is possible. I know the state sent me 3 emails and two letters telling me that they were still working on my UI claim after they had been paying it for seven weeks. That was sent on a debit card even though I had requested direct deposit.
Kind of the same thing here. Since I'm self-employed I signed up for UI. I tried to get it direct deposit and kept getting a message that the bank routing number was invalid, so I signed up for checks. After hearing nothing for over a month, I got 6 checks in one day. All in separate envelopes and with sequential numbers. Then a few days later I got an email that Vermont screwed up and send the federal part in error for 2 weeks. So they suspended payments to make it up. Then last week I got 2 checks in one day for a reduced amount. I guess that they only cut checks occasionally!
Sounds like some of the Zero Vision stuff in my area, where lanes were lost and a cut through (used a lot due to lack of existing road infrastructure, lack of transit, and major employers being allowed to cluster in small spaces) was signed similar to that article because of lucky demographic NIMBYs whining about traffic. This created massive backups on surrounding streets, made even worse when the Zero Vision changes came into play. The 'rona was the only saving grace for traffic in this specific area.
It makes for another chapter in the @ab348 Book of Grievances. 😉

Hey Craig....so glad you came back. Hope you stick around some.
How long have you been out of touch? I’m trying to think of how many cars I’ve been through during that period.
@isellhondas, Welcome back! "The guy who bought it is a serious collector. Drove up in a Rolls Royce!" Was his name Hoovie?
speaking of Hoovie, I just wasted spent some time watchng YouTube (the JR channel), and spent 20 minutes watching a 1,000 mile road trip video, of JR and some other dude driving Hoovie's two 7 series BMWs off to the wrecking yard. Both being totaled, although they both looked great. Quite the hoot. Massive clouds of smoke out of the Alpina, oil stops ever 200 miles, and various other maladies popping up. Yet somehow both cars made it.
Watched that last night. Hoovie doesn’t have much luck with BMWs, for sure. But, that one Alpina was spewing gobs of smoke, and was burning through a quart of oil about every 150-200 miles. Hard to believe it made it 1,000 miles without blowing up.
But, both cars were beautiful. Too bad mechanically they were trash.

Why do I feel 95% of the worlds population would be in that book.

These “safe streets” or “slow streets” (the city has no legal authority to set speed limits so the latter is a misnomer) were sprung on us with no advance notice or consultations. I live on one of these streets and am quite irritated at it all. It makes no sense as described - supposedly someone can now walk down the middle of the street amidst vehicles, good luck with that - and I dislike excluding people from outside the area from driving on my street. And as the article notes, the only enforcement will be from people reporting miscreants, nice. Lunacy reigns.
There’s a paywall in the way of reading but the first question I’d ask is how they would identify non-local drivers.

Refrigerator topic revived: I have a Kenmore refrigerator that is a rebadged Frigidaire model which I bought probably 10-12 years ago. Works fine, but it has a design flaw. The crisper drawer is suspended below the top shelf on a pair of plastic tracks. The back end uses a screw to attach that end to the shelf, while the front has a slot molded into the end of it to accept a metal tongue of sorts that protrudes from the other end of the shelf. That is the flaw in that the plastic there is not strong enough to withstand the stress at that point so it always breaks at that end after a while. I have probably replaced one side or the other at least 4 or 5 times over the years, to the point where I kept the receipts with the part numbers on them in an envelope so I wouldn't need to hunt the numbers down every time.
I used to get them from the Sears parts depot when Sears was still in business here. The track started out at $8.95, then went up to $9.95 for the next few I bought. It broke again on the weekend so I intended to go to the appliance parts place for them today until I looked up inventory on their website. They are a breathtaking $49 each! And it isn't a case of this independent parts house jacking the price, they are in that price range everywhere I looked. I guess some sharp-eyed analyst at Electrolux looked at the number of these things they were selling and decided to do some margin enhancement. They rate a chapter in the @ab348 Book of Grievances I think.
I am now studying how to do a more permanent repair to the broken pieces. Glue or epoxy alone won't do it, but I am thinking some sheetmetal cut and bent to fit over that end as a reinforcement might work. Too bad I don't have access to a 3D printer.

For a small fee I am sure we can get the book printed and plan a national book tour.

Did you try amazon...or just a general search for that part using the manufacturer, Figidaire and Kenmore numbers....may have to use amazon.com and try E-Bay. It doesn't pay to keep these parts in stock on the off chance someone need it and pay a minimum amount. Some of the newer makers like Samsung don't even keep parts for more than 4 years on appliances like refrigerators...they would rather force you into buying a new one. **There is another one of my multi-million dollar ideas......make shelves that can adjust to almost any fridge, that breakage can happen fairly frequently. 3-D printer sounds like a good idea.

Yes, first thing I did after I saw the price on the website. All are in that same ballpark. Amazon was cheapest at $40 for one side, $42 for the other. If I decide I have to replace them I'll go that route. Ebay comes with the added disadvantage of expensive shipping and US exchange.
The part really needs to be made of metal, not plastic, to handle the stress. If you bump/twist the crisper drawer, that end of the track is going to break.
Yesterday I replaced the fill valve on second bathroom's toilet. Had bought one a decade or longer ago. Tried their Fluidmaster video and instructions online about unclogging the thing. Then it didn't go back together right. When I got the rubber upper gasket back on, then it wouldn't shut off.
I should just have gone and gotten the upline replacement to begin with. Menards. $12 or so. The toilet has been slow to fill as if it were blocked somewhere (notice my correct use of the subjunctive tense).
Installed. It even has a control on the bowl fill tube to limit how much water goes there. Excess water just goes over the gooseneck in back. We have to worry about the environment and wasting water. I had put one of those on the first bathroom toilet may 8 years ago.
I always thought that wasting water was a big issue until I delved into the local water utility's annual reports and Board minutes a couple of years ago. Turns out that despite significant growth in our population and the number of households/accounts they are serving, water consumption overall (not per household, but total gallons delivered through their water pipe network) has been declining pretty consistently for over a decade, somewhere between 0.5% and 1.5% annually. They attribute that mostly to water-saving faucets, toilets, showerheads, etc. I suspect that commercial use is likely also down as we move more to service-based industry here as opposed to manufacturing and processing. I was astounded.
Anyway, saving water is not their concern now as most of their revenue comes from fixed fees for connections and infrastructure maintenance. The water portion of any given bill is usually pretty small compared to the total (I pay about $50 a month total which I suspect is similar to most households here).
Yeah, that’s Enterprise alright. The place on Airport Parkway in S. Burlington is our resale lot where cars are taken out of service pending delivery to dealers. We call it Kate’s after the manager there. New cars are prepped for service there too (although that’s been pretty much stopped). There’s also extensive storage in the airport garage and surrounding parking lots.
We’ve got an office on Barre-Montpelier road off exit 7 of I-89. I’m not familiar with that off site parking lot but I’m sure they had to scramble when everything collapsed.
I visited my home office last Friday to let the new boss know that I was available and the whole building looked abandoned. New car acquisitions was empty with the lights out. The car sales offices (where the few drivers are now being run) were open but at a reduced level.
I couldn’t talk directly with the new boss because he was on a video conference so I left my contact information. Rumors have this lay off going on as long as 6 months. Very depressing. I hope Sandy is right and we go back sooner.

O F, still no word on opening back up. The office across the street from our sub-division opened 2 weeks ago so was glad to see that. But my lead is still waiting to hear from his boss that we're back up & running. My optimism is wearing down a bit lately and am now setting my sites on July 1st as a more logical start-up date. Getting unemployment so might as well stay out until they really have work for us. My old Hertz store is calling in the few drivers left only a couple days a week. Honestly, I'd rather work my 3 days/week and if not, wait till that comes back. Am starting to enjoy being home...took about 6 weeks to finally get used to the whole thing. But fine with it now, or at least until the UI runs out.

We have cruised out of Seattle to Alaska 11 times now. Never get tired of this beautiful trip. Not this time. The shutdown of the cruises is going to have a profound effect on the Seattle economy this year not to mention the small tourist trap town in Alaska that the ships visit. Sad.

It's a slow morning around here so I need some advice about......I think this is a new topic............here it is..........power washers. Last year I cleaned the deck with a chemical wash that did a fairly good job. This year noticed the patio stones in the back are a bit grungy looking. Got a card out that a handyman guy left a few days ago. He comes on Friday at 4 p.m., checks it out says he will have an estimate the next day. Don't hear from him so Mrs D100 calls him at 4 and asks about the estimate...says he will email it. Now I don't know how many hours it takes to do an estimate....to me, I think you should be able to do it in 4 minutes. Anyway, Monday he emails the estimate. He doesn't mention the deck, so I don't know if he included that, but, for the patio which is about 20X20 ft and the walkway wich is maybe 30 ft long by 3 ft wide $250. For the front sidewalk which is about 30 yards long by 3 ft wide $300.
It seems I can buy a power washer for about $200 and it doesn't seem like it could be that hard. Before I do I'll get another estimate. My questions are; Will the power washer get the dirt and grunge off the deck? Is it fairly easy to use....that is idiot proof? What can go wrong? How much would a handy man "Guy" charge for a job like that?
The guy that does my deck offered to do the concrete front walk and driveway (double wide, maybe 30 feet long) For an extra $100. He had a polisher style machine for that. Really cool, did a fantastic job. Looks like a big floor polisher (those round buffers).
A home unit is easy to use. And handy to have. Clean patio furniture, stuff like that. Will do fine with rocks or a patio.
Mostly idiot proof. Just be careful with settings (strength of the jet) and where you point it. You can take out the joint sand on a paver patio, or make grooves in a wood deck. But pretty hard to do much damage with a moderate power electric home model.
@driver100, I’ll second what @stickguy said. My son and I bought a gas powered pressure washer from Home Depot years ago that was a return because the original buyer must have been a dope. According to the guy at Home Depot he couldn’t start it. It started on the second pull for me the first time I used it and all subsequent starts. I point this out because some people have problems with gas powered units and because of this electric units seem to be very popular but I personally don’t like the idea of mixing electricity and water even though I have an outside GFCI. No sense challenging it if I can avoid it, hence the gas unit.
One last thing...be damn sure you wear safety glasses. Just be careful and have fun. This purchase just might make you “the guy” in your hood.

I will agree with the posts from Stickguy and Jmonroe about power washers. They do real good jobs but you do need to get close to what your cleaning to get the best results. If your cleaning paver blocks you will kick up what's between the blocks and it will get on lots of stuff, including yourself. If you're just doing a deck and/or walkways a small electric one will do. Gas powered ones are more powerful and would be needed for cleaning siding on a two story house. Home improvement places do rent them so if you want to DYI you can look into renting one.

How long have you been out of touch? I’m trying to think of how many cars I’ve been through during that period.
But, both cars were beautiful. Too bad mechanically they were trash.

**There is another one of my multi-million dollar ideas......make shelves that can adjust to almost any fridge, that breakage can happen fairly frequently. 3-D printer sounds like a good idea.

The part really needs to be made of metal, not plastic, to handle the stress. If you bump/twist the crisper drawer, that end of the track is going to break.

Anyway, saving water is not their concern now as most of their revenue comes from fixed fees for connections and infrastructure maintenance. The water portion of any given bill is usually pretty small compared to the total (I pay about $50 a month total which I suspect is similar to most households here).

No, I didn't get banned from Edmunds.
No, I didn't take my ball and leave. I got mad at nobody. I just couldn't get in and after trying many times I simply gave up. I do have a deep regret and that is I didn't get to say good bye to Mr. Shiftrighr. Have to say that he was my favorite and his encyclopedic knowledge of all things made his an irreplaceable asset to these forums. If any of you happen to talk to him please pass on my words of appreciation.

It seems I can buy a power washer for about $200 and it doesn't seem like it could be that hard. Before I do I'll get another estimate. My questions are;
Will the power washer get the dirt and grunge off the deck?
Is it fairly easy to use....that is idiot proof?
What can go wrong?
How much would a handy man "Guy" charge for a job like that?
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
A home unit is easy to use. And handy to have. Clean patio furniture, stuff like that. Will do fine with rocks or a patio.
Mostly idiot proof. Just be careful with settings (strength of the jet) and where you point it. You can take out the joint sand on a paver patio, or make grooves in a wood deck. But pretty hard to do much damage with a moderate power electric home model.

One last thing...be damn sure you wear safety glasses. Just be careful and have fun. This purchase just might make you “the guy” in your hood.
